@Nep-Nep-Freak
I was always pretty impartial to the rhythm-stepping, boxing, and marble-tilting minigames! The running one was definitely fun too, although the detection was super wonky on that one lol
Say what you will about the game itself, but Mario Kart not getting nominated for best score is a huge clown move, I've seen so many non-gaming content creators online state that it has the best audio they've heard from any media all year.
@martynstuff I would imagine that Bananza would use Breaking Through for the GOTY orchestra, would certainly be fitting.
I have the NSO one from last year and it's been awesome, the art is specifically adapted around the calendar (e.g. Dr. Mario has the calendar inside the game's UI). I'm not as sold looking at these new ones though, this is just artwork with the calendars slapped on top, and often not the best artwork choices this time around either.
Do you guys think that these calendars are hinting at upcoming releases? Teleroboxer is pictured for the same month it's expected to release on NSO, as is Mario Tennis; I wonder if Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven are using the same logic here. I hope not though, I can't wait that much longer for RH lol
Doesn't look related, but after seeing many of the wild theories that people online came up with for Donkey Kong Bananza come true, I wouldn't anything out entirely, lol.
@Gen4Fan
"I use this app daily as background music but desperately want old Pokémon games on it" is my exact sentiment, kindred spirit. I hope we don't need to wait forever for Gens 3 & 4... >_<
@Pillowpants The point about extending songs and finding a looping spot is largely irrelevant for Mario Kart World, since the vast majority of tracks don't loop - I'm pretty sure less than 50 of the over 200 tracks have a looping point, and even then, many of them have codas for Knockout Tour.
@Ultimapunch That's a perfect point. Sword and Shield is also arguably where the fanbase started getting outwardly frustrated, and it's pretty easy to tie back to the botched console shift.
I don't think that the answer to this question is as black-and-white (hah) as people would have you think - a lot of people online will assert that [insert the generation with their first Pokémon game here] is "teh BEST" generation, and everything after that is mediocre trash. Putting my own personal biases aside (personally not a fan of B/W), I think Gen 6 is where they started aiming for "good enough", although it didn't really become obvious until Sw/Sh. I feel that most games from X/Y onward hope that their central grab (first 3D entry, first console entry, real-time battle mechanics, open world, etc.) is enough to get you to ignore how underdeveloped they might be in other areas (plot, visuals, locales, animations, difficulty, settings, etc).
By the way, I'm glad to see that NL users know what's up with Legends Arceus. That's the only Switch entry that I've been able to wholeheartedly recommend to people!
@BigNate
They have some unique themes? The only ones I can think of are some world map themes, and the warp cannon courses in NSMB2. You are right in that the themes themselves are definitely rearranged in a few cases at least though - NSMB2 has way more "bah"s, and NSMBW's athletic theme sounds very different from how it did originally.
@BigNate
I think it's a joke about those two entries using the same songs that were already in NSMB DS / used again later in NSMBU. Those albums are gonna be really disappointing once they get released lol
The US version of Echoes is probably my single favorite box in my gaming collection. As someone mentioned, it's holographic when seen in-person, with lots of subtle details only noticeable under a light source.
@MarcusIsCool
This is a mobile app though? I can get your comments about future-proofing in general, but this app isn't actually available on the Switch.
Definitely a bit of an oddball choice imo, there are both other Game Boy games and other Metroid games that I think should have been a higher priority. Would have been nice to see the remake get released alongside this as well. I'm glad that they didn't forget about this game regardless though!
I personally think that they should just stop making those awful cutscenes that were clearly developed with voice acting in mind. I have no doubt that I would find voice acting to be really annoying and probably poorly done, although I'll admittedly still take it over the nonsense that they currently do.
Oh thank you guys for this, I was looking for something like this everywhere. Seems like I'll be fine saving $10 and going with the Switch 1 version, it's definitely not a performance disaster like the last game was.
@N00BiSH I was just having fun there, I actually like TotK's plot a bit more than most. The opportunity with the subject of this article was too obvious not to take lol
I'm not sure that title screens are the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Metroid, but now that you mention it, the title screens of Super, Prime, and Echoes are all pretty epic.
@ShieldHero
The original Metroid hasn't aged well at all imo, it wouldn't leave a great first impression of the series if you played it today. I highly recommend giving either Super Metroid or Zero Mission a shot!
I'm not exactly fond of day-one patches either, especially for ports of old games, but as someone who's played 3D All-Stars at launch, I can understand it. Sunshine in that collection was full of all sorts of hilarious emulation glitches at launch.
No 1P mouse mode is a terrible oversight, but I'm glad to hear that gyro works in handheld this time. 3D All-Stars Galaxy was nearly unplayable in handheld mode with the touch controls.
Regarding pricing, Nintendo has already shown a running theme that they aren't willing to overcharge for Metroid - they want to maximize its success. Metroid Prime Remastered was quite a high-effort remake, yet they only charged $40 USD for it. They similarly don't want to overcharge for Prime 4 and risk it flopping after such an arduously lengthy dev cycle, leaving it the same price as any other standard Switch/Switch 2 game. Mario meanwhile they can get away with charging any price for, and they know it - the Galaxy bundle will still sell millions anyway, especially as a tie-in for a near-guaranteed hit of a movie.
Regarding Bananza, the difficulty is a little wonky in that game - it starts off really easy, reaches a more involved difficulty level a few layers in, then spikes hard by sublayer 1200 or so. I too struggled with the final battle, I lost like eight times before finally getting through, despite having no deaths from most prior bosses in the game.
@Not_Soos I don't know about the one you mentioned, but there's definitely a couple missing. I noticed the fast version of Hightail Falls being absent, and someone pointed out to me that the Cosmic Clone theme is missing as well.
Nintendo have clearly shown that they have no interest in keeping their digital shops up forever, so once they shut down, the games will only last as long as your console does - which I'd argue has a much shorter lifespan than the games themselves nowadays. I've had many recent consoles fail on me, some more than once.
Even if physical carts do fail, they're much easier to replace incrementally. Losing your entire digital library with a console can be unsalvageable.
Hopefully Smash 64 coming means that Melee shows up at some point too... Y'know, the best-selling GCN game. Imagine launching your legacy console library without even acknowledging that. Same deal with GBA, I want my Pokeemans :-<
@nukatha I would imagine that this is just a leak for the 18+ sets, I highly doubt that the range would be launching with just three sets all aimed at adults. Although Lego has gone down a path lately where they seem to forget that kids exist, so I dunno lol
@Kiyata Lego doesn't generally like to put stickers in their gaming sets - I've heard it explicitly stated that the team that works on gaming themes avoids stickers as much as possible. So there's that at least!
(FWIW, I follow the Lego fandom, and they all hate stickers as well lol)
I've been bracing my wallet all year for this launch - I've been able to be selective about my Lego purchases for the last five years or so with just one big set every six months to a year or so, but that's probably going out the window when Lego Pokémon launches. >_>
I second what @darkswabber says above me about Lego leaks - I'm not sure I've ever heard a fake one. Lego has a very loose lid on their upcoming products lol
