FFS we are never going to get a new Timesplitters game or even just a HD port/remaster of the old games, are we? I have been dying to have these games moved over to modern hardware, so we can play them again online, with enhancements and other improvements. It would be awesome to be able to make larger maps too and with less restrictions.
The games are still amazing in my opinion and I still regularly play both TS2 and Future Perfect (it's only been two weeks since I played both on my Gamecube).
I will dispute anyone who claims those games have aged or that there is no point in them anymore. I seriously miss these old school objective based shooters and more localised corridor based multiplayer and feel there absolutely is a place for them. The arcade and challenge modes, the numerous multiplayer options and huge amounts of unlockables just don't exist in shooters anymore.
So is the additional 8GB "patch" an actual patch (i.e. it contains major bug fixes and other stuff) or is it more like they only bothered to put like 45% of the game on a cartridge and the "patch" is just the other 65% of the data?
@memer If they hate Sonic games, the chances are high that, three days into the release of the game, they haven't bought it and they haven't played it.
And there are lots of series and franchises I don't enjoy, but to call a perfectly fine game (it has its flaws, I agree with many of the criticisms here) as "abysmal" is just ludicrous. Superman 64 is abysmal. Sonic Superstars is not abysmal.
Interesting. I have a lot of fond memories of Sensible Soccer back in the 90s. I really hope this is good, because it's been a long time since I have played a football game I really enjoyed.
I had the PS5 version pre-ordered, but I switched (no pun intended) to the Switch version, as my son wants to play it multiplayer and I don't own two PS5 controllers (and can't justify spending £60 on a new controller right now).
I have got one of their collector's editions and they are really good and definitely worth picking up. The art books are fantastic quality.
@Yosher Their releases aren't really that hard to pick up to be honest. They don't sell out anywhere nearly as quickly as, for example, a large company like LRG's would a few years back before they did open pre-orders. I can't imagine this release will be any different, since Sonic Origins Plus already has a physical release.
Meh, I have played through the Luigi's Mansion games multiple times and the second game is the weakest by a mile. The game was designed to be played in smaller chunks (due to the hardware and it being a portable device), but I really wasn't a fan of it being split into multiple smaller mansions with fairly linear and straightforward missions. There's nothing particularly memorable about the game.
The "retail edition" that is coming 5th December, is there any indication if this is in all regions and a standard version you will be able to buy from your usual online and highstreet retailers?
Basically, I want to know as someone from the UK, if I am going to be able to buy a regular version here or if I need to buy the Iam8bit one? I have been stung before with Hollow Knight (I think that was iam8bit) and Streets of Rage 4. I really hate this practice of announcing fancy "limited run" style editions and then having "other retail editions are coming" in what is the equivalent of small print, with them not making it obvious if it will be coming to other regions or not.
@somnambulance Are the reviews real? I only came across a couple of youtube ones and the first one sounded highly fake. The comments were full of people accusing the uploader of just making the review up or possibly even doing it through AI. The second one was really vague and the uploader kept on getting the game's title wrong, which didn't fill me with confidence.
Anyways, I have the same concerns. It seems like after getting delayed a few times and a period of radio silence that the release date was announced out of no where and there has been little buzz since. The lack of previews and the fact either review copies haven't gone out or there is a late embargo is worrying.
@RudyC3 Physical is confirmed for a 13th October release. You're probably right about them cheaping out on the cartridge size and forcing a download though.
I might check these out some time. I am just that annoying person who is still annoyed that these aren't the Tomb Raider games I wanted. Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider were both on 7th generation hardware. They should easily run on Switch, even if the last one in the reboot trilogy might not.
As a big Sonic fan who skipped this release initially, due mostly to the poor reviews and reactions of fans and also because it was obvious a physical 'Plus' release would eventually come, I am really enjoying it! I really don't understand all the criticisms at all. These feel like the best versions of these games (and I have recently replayed the original versions). The Sonic 3 music issue isn't ideal (the prototype music is pretty naff as well, to add insult to injury), but it's not make or break for me, especially as it isn't all stages affected.
It was on sale the other day and so I picked it up. I have only completed the first chapter so far (I chose Throne as my starting character), but so far I am really enjoying it. I had forgotten how enjoyable the first game was and this seems to even better. I only just discovered that you can now speed up the battles, so that is a cool improvement.
What is frustrating for me, is that I pre-ordered the game not realising that the restored content wasn't launching with the game. I guess it teaches me a lesson for not researching properly, but because it was part of the trailer and they were advertising it before the game even launched, I assumed it would actually be part of the game when it released.
When the game came out, I started playing and then I read the restored content was DLC that was coming out later. Then I read that you would need to start a new game to experience it, so I stopped playing. And I waited... And I waited... I haven't played it since, because I was waiting for this restored content DLC that they would never update us on. Now it has been cancelled and it has left such a bad taste in my mouth, that I don't know if I even want to play it. I wasted my money. And they can shove their free game code.
@Zulzar The team is having huge issues. They are working on the KOTOR Remake which is allegedly an utter disaster and so deep in development hell that it will probably end up cancelled very soon, unless another studio is brought in to save it.
I am ridiculously excited for this one. Jet Set Radio has been one of my favourite Dreamcast games (hell, one of my favourite games period) since it came out nearly 23 years ago.
I know the controls take some getting used to and are an acquired taste, but it you can get past that, the game is soooo much fun and oozing with imagination. I wish Sega would re-release the HD port and package it with an HD port of Jet Set Radio Future on Switch and modern consoles. Alas Sega never do anything with their incredible back catalogue unless it's Sonic or the Genesis/MD.
Hopefully Bomb Rush Cyberfunk feels like the spiritual successor we all want.
I agree that throwing in Knuckles Chaotix and some of the other more obscure Sonic games would be a great move. It would be cool to see some of the Game Gear, Master System and handheld games included (like the Neo Geo Pocket Color one and Sonic Advance)
Ah, classic Sega. I knew there was totally going to be a physical version later down the line to get people to double dip (assuming that's what this is). I am glad I held off buying it, not just because of all the problems, bugs and flaws it had, but also because I knew they would eventually release an "enhanced" version (probably the version they should have released in the first place) with a physical release.
I know people criticised this release a lot, but my son loves Sonic and is fascinated by the original series, so it would be cool to get an enhanced version of Origins to play with him on the Switch, if that's what they are doing.
This is a bit weird, because this is the third instance this week I have seen of someone importing something video games related and customs literally ripping the item open and borderline trashing it.
I know someone who ordered a couple of sealed video games (not graded) that arrived earlier this week with the parcel having been ripped open, the games unsealed and damaged.
The comments on the Dreamcast Junkyard article (turns out I once commented on it haha) also have some interesting information about how the recall worked.
@AmplifyMJ Are you from a PAL region? It didn't affect the North American release, as that came out later. Basically, from what I remember, there were three major bugs and then a number of minor ones.
The major ones were:
1. The Championship mode. Each chapter had a set number of races and challenges to complete before you could move onto the next chapter, but they also had a set number of Kudos (points) to achieve as well. You could move onto the next chapter without reaching the required number of points, rendering the Kudos system basically broken and pointless.
2. It was either impossible to unlock every car in the game or if a set number of conditions were met then it would become impossible to unlock every car.
3. The multiplayer quick race option didn't work at all.
I think all three bugs plus some minor ones were fixed by the 3rd revision.
@ModdedInkling Yup, exactly. There's a game called Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast and 3 different versions were released in PAL territories (all appear identical other than the version number written somewhere on the underside of the disc). The initial launch version was considered so buggy that the publisher was offering refunds and allowing people to return their copies for a fixed version once it was available. I've owned all 3 versions at some point.
Or how about that save bug in WWF No Mercy? We had to wait around 6 months for a fixed cart for that one if I remember correctly.
@farrgazer From what I have read, this is the original voice actor. It gets complicated, because, although Rita wasn't a playable character until now, the character was in the story mode and was voiced by a different actress. The actress for her DLC character is the original though as they managed to get her to reprise her role (unless what I read is rubbish, but it definitely sounds like the original and it's definitely a different actress from the one who voices Rita in the story mode).
@Blackrosewaifu9000 I do! It's a great fighter and the developers have put loads of work into developing it and improving it since it launched. It's a far better game than when it launched. People still play it online, but it probably does spike around the time when they release new DLC and then peter out a bit.
Hey, I'm excited to hear this. I thought the first game was ok and The Impossible Lair was amazing. Hopefully they can refine the sequel and fix some of the issues the first game had.
I assumed it was intentional... How do you accidentally make a screen larger than intended and not notice? It doesn't really bother me much, but they should patch in an option to make it smaller for those who find it bothersome.
Where did you guys get the 25.4GB figure from? According to the eShop in the UK it's 13.1GB. Which is the correct figure? I hope they haven't cheaped out on having a 16GB cart...
Why do other consoles get all three games packaged in one physical retail release at standard RRP for one game, yet Switch owners have to shell out for them individually at £35ish a piece? (excluding additional fees for those who import the LRG releases)
It's a Sonic game and a Wii game, I think I'll live with it looking "fine", but those loading times sound bad. Just what happened? Getting a Wii game to run on a Switch and look and perform better shouldn't be an issue.
