Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 8th)

Reprise

@tourjeff Yeah, I'm doing the same re backlog. I'm actually currently playing through some of my Vita backlog (currently trying to finally finish the Nonary Games series). I did pick up Burnout Paradise and Crysis, but unfortunately got bored of them pretty quickly. Burnout Paradise is good, but in the end it just wasn't the Burnout I wanted (2 and 3 are my personal favourites). Crysis is also good, but I really dislike the way it handles saving the game. The auto save function put me off after a while. I wish I had the freedom to go back to manual saves.

I'm glad the Switch has got some great ports this year, but it's just unfortunate that I have already played a lot of them.

Re: Want A Jet Set Radio Sequel? Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Might Be Your Best Shot

Reprise

Yes please! Looks like they nailed the style and the fact they have Naganuma involved is also promising, since the music was a big part of the Jet Set Radio games. Jet Set Radio is one of my favourite games of all time. I've been wondering why they haven't done a HD collection of the DC original and Future on modern consoles (especially as JSR had an HD port last generation), but I'll happily take this in the meantime.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

@PikaPhantom In Nintendo's defence, it's just got to be Covid related and adjusting to working from home, hasn't it? I mean, I really doubt last year Nintendo decided they were going to release two games and do **** all for most of 2020. It does suck though. I wish they would just forget marketing and be direct (no pun intended) with their fans, announce the games that are in the pipeline, explain they have been delayed and provide a new rough release schedule.

Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash

For as much ***** as this game seemed to get, for whatever reason, they have done loads of FMV Interactive Movies in the past and a lot of them were apparently pretty good. The Bunker, Doctor Dekker and Late Shift were all reasonably well received by gamers and critics. There's no reason Gamer Girl couldn't have been as enjoyable as their previous games (if you're into these kind of games), but people are so quick to judge.

Re: Metacritic Implements 36-Hour Delay On User Reviews, To Ensure "Gamers Have Time To Play"

@Collette I don't disagree with you. That's why I was careful to also mention the fanboys who feel the need to defend their games to the death and mass rate them 10/10, even if they're flawed entries in beloved franchises. What you outlined is equally infantile and silly. As long as people can articulate why they don't enjoy or do enjoy a game and are respectful, I don't see an issue.

Trolling is an overused and misused word nowadays, but I don't think silly exaggerations and childish language is constructive. I guarantee not a single game that has been mass rated 0/10, or 10/10 on the other end of the spectrum, as part of some petty protest, is actually a 0/10 or 10/10 game.

To be honest, going back to your original point about sending messages to developers or publishers, well there's already a way to do that: Sales. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Like it? Buy it. If sales are strong but you think the game sucks or if sales are weak but you think the game is the best thing ever (and people in your favourite sub reddit or wherever agrees with you well), as I said, you're probably part of a vocal minority...

@Collette I get that, to a point, but what happened to nuance? I can't stand hyperbole. Also, some gamers (and people in general, as this isn't exclusive to video game discussions) need to understand that just because they and their online echo chamber like/dislike something, doesn't mean they are representative of the feelings of the community or society as a whole. More often than not, they're a very vocal minority.

Review bombing is really pathetic. Who are these people who take video games so seriously that they decide any transgression from what they personally feel is acceptable for a video game must be punished? Who is so insecure about their own opinions that they feel the need to have it validated by manipulating the user score on metacritic? And yes, the same goes for people who will rate games 10/10, when they don't actually believe it's that good, but just because they want to raise the user score more effectively.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Deadly Premonition 2 On Switch

Reprise

@DanTee I went from "haha this is so bad it's kinda fun" to "holy ***** this is good!" in the duration of my playthrough of the first game. The story, the characters and the world are all amazing. I loved how you could step outside of the main quest and do your own investigations, exploring the numerous side quests. Each one adds so much to the characters and really enriches the overall story.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Deadly Premonition 2 On Switch

The framerate is really bad and, in addition to that, the game doesn't look great a lot of the time, particularly in handheld (particularly the character models). I don't personally think it makes the game "unplayable" though. That's just hyperbole in my opinion.

That said, the game does have problems beyond the aforementioned framerate and visual issue... I'm not too far in, but so far it is just not gripping me in the way the first game did. There is so much dialogue, yet none of it particularly interesting. York doesn't come across as the same character from the first game. It's weird, it's almost like he's playing a parody of himself. As for the setting and the characters, they just don't have the same compelling and interesting vibe the first game had. I'm giving it a chance, but so far, the game feels weird... like it's missing the spark the first game had and instead feels kind of hollow.

Re: Rumour: Is A Tomb Raider Collection Coming To Nintendo Switch?

Reprise

I might pick this up, depending the price and the games included in the collection. I do have a bit of a soft spot for the series and enjoy most of the games. It would be a shame if none of the recent reboot era games are included though, as it would be nice for all eras to have some representation... As amazing as they look, there is no reason why at least the first two new reboot games couldn't run on the Switch. The first game was initially on PS3/360 and Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on 360.

Re: The First Review For Paper Mario: The Origami King Is Now In

Reprise

I always groan whenever I see an article about the first review for a hotly anticipated new game and then see it's Famitsu... Their scores never really give any indication of the quality of a game, since they somehow seem to aware every game a score in the mid to upper 30s (as shown by all their Paper Mario review scores).

Re: Crysis Remastered Switch eShop File Size Revealed

@JimmySpades Exactly. Also, what's wrong with enjoying portable gaming? TG16 seems to mock those who prefer portable gaming (or the flexibility the Switch offers), but I don't know why. For me, portable > fancier graphics. As long as the game plays well and runs decently enough, I'd much rather play on Switch.

Re: Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Backers Hit With Customs Charges And Handling Fees

Reprise

Something I haven't seen anyone here mention, but supposedly (according to some people in the Kickstarter comments) Yetee completed the customs declaration form incorrectly, stating the game's value is higher than it actually is, which resulted in higher tax fees. If this is the case, then that is really *****.

I can't verify as I haven't received my copy yet. Can anyone here?

Re: No, Seriously, The Wii And Wii U Are Getting Physical Versions Of Shakedown: Hawaii This Year

Reprise

@Tharsman To be fair, the Vita version of this game was one of the last releases for that console (it barely just made the cut off point for Vita cartridge manufacturing before Sony shut that down) and it took days to sell out. For some reason collectors seem to race to Limited Run Games to buy their games, but not other publishers of 'limited' games... Hopefully if people want this Wii release, they manage to get it without having to add it to basket and check out within 15 seconds of it going on sale.

Re: DICE's Cancelled '90s Run-And-Gun Ultracore Gets New Lease Of Life On Switch

Reprise

I have the physical version that released some time last year. It's a pretty good game and I do recommend it, but £17.99 does seem a little steep in my opinion. The game gets a little repetitive and each level is fairly samey. For those wondering, if I remember correctly, it plays like a Mega Drive/Genesis rom, in the sense that there's no modern additions like save features or level selects. It's really like playing a Mega Drive game, but just on modern hardware. Depending on the kind of gamer you are, you might love that or be disappointed.

Re: Review: Burnout Paradise Remastered - Thrilling Open-World Racing Tempered By Blurry Visuals And A High Price

Reprise

@dewokkel Burnout Paradise naturally has a bit of a blurry appearance at times, regardless of how you play, mostly due to the motion blur effect the game uses. It's not pin sharp in handheld mode, there is some blur, but I've not once crashed or struggled to play as a result of blurriness. Basically, I play just as well whether I'm playing docked or handheld.
