Re: XIII Remake Was Received So Poorly That The 2003 Original Actually Sold Better Last Week (UK)

Reprise

As someone who is a huge fan of the original and loves the graphic novel series, I pre-ordered the remake. I always thought it looked pretty dodgy, but I told myself that the worst it will probably be is the exact same game but with updated visuals... Oh, how wrong I was! Literally the biggest waste of £40 ever. I literally played it for 5 minutes and it was utter crap, so I just played the original instead.

All I wanted was a basic remaster! The game never needed a remake. It just needed the textures and visuals cleaning up, resolution increased and for the checkpoint/save system to be fixed.

Re: XIII Remake's Launch On PS4 Doesn't Give Us Much Hope For The Switch Release

Reprise

@Bunkerneath Same happened to me! I cancelled it mid delivery and it's supposedly en route to a returns office. Still waiting for my refund... To add insult to injury, I also preordered the PS4 version when they announced the Switch delay and Amazon were unable to deliver the PS4 version... So I'm still waiting for my copy that I now wish I had just cancelled.

Re: XIII Remake's Launch On PS4 Doesn't Give Us Much Hope For The Switch Release

Reprise

I haven't even received my copy yet and it has been one mess after another. I preordered the Switch version on Amazon. When it was delayed I decided to preorder the PS4 version. The problem is I forgot to cancel the Switch version and on Monday evening Amazon dispatched the XBox One version instead... To add insult to injury, they didn't dispatch the PS4 version due to some issue or another and delayed it indefinitely, so I cancelled that order and ordered off Zatu Games who promised same day dispatch and next day delivery if I paid for it, which I did. Yet, here I am, still waiting for my copy to arrive...

So I have paid twice for the same game, still haven't received it, I'm waiting for a refund from Amazon for the XB1 version they tried sending me in error and on top of that it turns out the game is utter *****!

I might just get out the Gamecube version tonight and play that instead.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Isn't Coming To Switch After All

Reprise

@LUIGITORNADO I own a system that can play it and I have no doubt I will have bought either a PS5 or Series X by the time the collection is out. I'm just not an apologist for EA's laziness and cannot be arsed attitude when it comes to the Switch.

How's that full priced, rebranded FIFA 19 with the title changed to FIFA 20 doing?

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Isn't Coming To Switch After All

Reprise

@TheFrenchiestFry What are you referring to? Have I missed something? They didn't release any gameplay footage or anything, just a teaser clip with glorified concept art. The press release stated "Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form." And Bioware have promised "updated textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features". Sure sounds like a remaster to me... Doesn't sound like a Mafia kinda deal (which was a remake, not a remaster, at least in the case of the first game). The updates and changes to ME1 are still just rumours at this stage and weren't confirmed as far as I can see.

It'll be updated to 4K to take advantage of next gen consoles, but will still be scalable and on the current gen consoles (PS4 and XB1).

I still call BS on these being beyond the capabilities of the Switch. EA just can't be arsed putting the effort in with Nintendo consoles. Unless it's a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 kinda deal where they actually are remakes but are bizarrely marketed as remasters.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Isn't Coming To Switch After All

Boo! I am so sick of this s***. Switch owners are being screwed over again. It's an ancient series that was released on the PS3 and 360! There's no excuse for not giving Switch owners a slice of the pie. Just give us enhanced ports of the originals if the "upgrades" in the current gen remasters are too demanding for the hardware.

Re: IDW Releasing Sonic The Hedgehog Hardcover Comic Collection In 2021

Reprise

Why has Sonic The Comic never had an official collected release? It's a travesty, as the comics were incredible. Everyone always goes on about the Archie series though... meh.

Anyways, I started getting into the IDW Sonic series earlier this year and I'm really enjoying it so far. I definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence. I'm on issue 18 and am really enjoying the story arcs. There's some pretty dark content considering its primarily a kids franchise.

Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'

Reprise

No idea who this guy is, but he's not the first to have this "hot" take. Let me tell you though, I absolutely do use both modes consistently all the time. I'd say I use my Switch about 50% docked 50% handheld. People who say there's no benefits clearly don't lead incredibly busy lives or have children.

The Switch is just a super convenient system. If I want to play on the TV, I can. If I'm playing an inappropriate/violent game and my son is around, I can take it out of the dock and continue playing. If I need to stop briefly to attend to something else or play with my kid, I can just hit the sleep button and then get back into the game seamlessly later. If my son or wife want to watch TV, I can continue handheld. When they're done, I can stick it back in the dock and play on the TV. If I'm going out somewhere and want to play on the go, I just hit the sleep button and wack it in my bag.

The Switch is awesome.

Also, surely if they went a 'Fire Stick TV' route, that would involve streaming and therefore would reduce performance and increase latency?

Re: XIII Remake For Switch Delayed Again, Will Now Arrive In 2021

Reprise

It's a shame, I was looking forward to this one. It didn't look amazing and the original game definitely had its flaws, but I really did love the original regardless. The acting, style and story were all fantastic. It helps that I'm a big fan of the graphic novel series too.

The gameplay was good too, but it just had a few difficulty spikes and the checkpoints were a bit harsh. Overall though, it was a fun game.

Re: Warner Bros. Was Worried Mortal Kombat 11 Wouldn't Be "Nintendo-Friendly"

Reprise

Why is this myth constantly perpetuated and repeated ad nauseam? Violent and more adult games have been on Nintendo platforms for a long time. Why wouldn't Nintendo want a new Mortal Kombat on their hardware and why wouldn't it sell? Do people not remember the Resident Evil series was once exclusive to the Gamecube? Or that that games like Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day did really well on the N64?

Re: The Switch Version Of The Outer Worlds Is Getting A Patch Next Week

Reprise

@Victus Yeah, that was pretty much it for me too. I just got a bit bored of the various storylines and wished I was playing KOTOR, Mass Effect or Fallout instead. Also, it was really easy on normal difficulty. You end up really OP fairly quickly (probably should have been playing on hard, but I rarely play games on hard).

Re: The Switch Version Of The Outer Worlds Is Getting A Patch Next Week

Reprise

I'm glad the patch is finally coming. I was a bit worried when there had been no news on it for so long.

I was one of the few who really enjoyed it and didn't find the visual downgrade really hindered my enjoyment much. I did end up putting the game down about half way through (nothing to do with the quality of the port), but I'd like to give it another try when the patch is out.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Sonic Game?

Reprise

@BulbasaurusRex "Butchered" was probably too harsh of a term, but I still, having played both, strongly feel it is the inferior version. For a start, I have no idea what bugs it "fixed", but it seemed to add a number and the camera system seemed to be even more erratic than the original version. The game did run at 60fps, whilst the Dreamcast version was locked at 30fps, but the latter was stable whilst 60fps was inconsistent not stable in the DX port. It's also worth pointing out that I believe 60fps is actually available in the Dreamcast version via a cheat code.

Furthermore, in terms of appearance and presentation, baffling changes to the lighting system were made, some graphical effects are missing? textures were recompressed and downgraded in many instances, some sound effects are missing and there are numerous sound bugs.

I think some elements can be debated. For example, the DX version improved the water effects in Emerald Coast Zone and there are other graphical changes that can be considered an improvement. Overall though, the changes are inconsistent in quality and as I mentioned, in many cases, are actually downgrades. It is widely considered a "poor" port and that's why the modding community have fixed a ton of stuff in the PC version and added a bunch of the Dreamcast version's elements back into the game.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Sonic Game?

Reprise

I get that this is a Nintendo site, but I would have preferred to have the full list rather than just those on Nintendo platforms. Generations is my favourite from recent history. The DX version of Sonic Adventure was somewhat butchered and, in many ways, inferior to the Dreamcast original.

By the way, am I the only person who thinks Lost World on Wii U is seriously underrated? It's flawed and the level design is inconsistent, but it was overall an enjoyable game and when it got things right, it was great.

Re: Review: WWE 2K Battlegrounds - A Disappointingly Poor Wrestlefest

Reprise

@Dromosus Yeah, Fire Pro would be amazing on Switch. It really would be a natural fit. I hadn't realised they had done DLC by the way! Is it any good? I played FPW a ton when it was first released on PS4, but haven't played in ages, as I don't really play my PS4 much anymore.

A barebones Universe Mode or GM mode would be great in Battlegrounds. Anything that can just add a little more depth and longevity would be great.

Re: Review: WWE 2K Battlegrounds - A Disappointingly Poor Wrestlefest

Reprise

@Dromosus I'm the same haha. I bought it and I'm enjoying it, even though objectively speaking I acknowledge and agree the game is severely flawed. I'm not a completionist and you can bank some serious points through the online modes if you're good, so I have already unlocked the majority of the wrestlers I care about in just three days...

The core gameplay is pretty fun, but I agree the grind isn't fair, the campaign mode is just stupid and lazy and I feel they could have added more match types. Surely, an over the top arcade style wrestling game would benefit from matches like TLC, Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber etc? Hopefully they work on the game post-launch and refine the gameplay and adjust the reward amount given for actions.

Overall though, I'm so over the simulation 2K wrestling games. 2K14 (THQ's last game before 2K took over) is the last wrestling game I actually enjoyed. I actually enjoy Battlegrounds far more than any of the games from 2K15 onwards.

Anyways, can't we just have Fire Pro World on Switch please?

Re: Yes, Monster Hunter Rise Is Running On Capcom's RE Engine

Reprise

@thiswaynow Oh I know that, but I still miss those days. It's always interesting to reminisce and look back at old ports and games, and the creative ways developers would get around console limitations. Digital Foundry do some great videos on that too.

Still, a Resident Evil game, made from the ground up for Switch, would sell like hot cakes. I don't see how it would be a financial risk, but what do I know? I don't work in the video games industry.

Re: Yes, Monster Hunter Rise Is Running On Capcom's RE Engine

Reprise

@PLATINUM7 Back in the day, if a game couldn't run on a platform, they would remake it from the ground up on an engine that is compatible. For example, the Saturn versions of Quake and Duke Nukem 3D. Or they would make slightly different games, like Mega Turrican on the Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Turrican on the SNES.

It would be amazing to have an exclusive Resident Evil game on the Switch. Or a port of RE7. It's a shame when it comes to developers bringing various games to other platforms like the Switch it feels like they're not as creative as they used to be.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?

Reprise

People are acting like it's a Limited Run game or something. The physical game is still available on Amazon and plenty of other retailers when I checked earlier today. It seems like there's plenty of stock so anyone who wants a copy will no doubt have no issues picking up one over the next 6 months. I think limited editions during special circumstances, like an anniversary celebration, are ok.

The digital version being time limited is a lot more daft, but like most people, I strongly suspect all three games will be available to buy seperately after that...

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Reprise

Are we missing the fact that thanks to the leakers we already knew Galaxy 2 wouldn't be included?

Why are people acting shocked when we knew literally every minute detail about this collection for months?

The leakers informed us:

  • Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy would be packaged together as part of a 'Mario 3D All Stars Collection
  • Mario Galaxy 2 would not be included
  • These will be slightly enhanced HD ports, but will not be elaborate remasters
  • Mario 3D World Deluxe will be ported separately

Literally every detail leaked turned out to be true...

Re: Here's The Resolution Of Each Game In Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Reprise

@TG16_IS_BAE The chances are that the game would need huge changes to the code to be made in order to accommodate a widescreen aspect ratio being implemented. A lot of older games just don't play nice when forcing a widescreen mode, as developers usually created them with 4:3 in mind. This meant 'off screen' various weird pop ins, stuck character models or other bizarre aspects occur, as the developer always intended the area to be hidden.

Unfortunately lots of older games have struggled or failed to implement widescreen when being ported to modern systems.

Re: Sega Says It Wants To Re-Release More Past Titles On Nintendo Switch

Reprise

I would love Sega to look at porting some of its later arcade titles, as well as Saturn and Dreamcast games. I would also like some ports of the more recent 3D Sonic games, specifically Colours, Generations and Lost World. I'm one of the few that really likes 3D Sonic games, even some of the more mediocre ones.

Now I think about it, unless it's a Genesis or Mega Drive game, Sega really doesn't re-release its games an awful lot, does it? There have been a few HD ports/remasters, like Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and a few other Dreamcast games, but otherwise not many at all and especially on Nintendo platforms. Why didn't Switch get the recent Shenmue I and II Collection, for example?

So yeah, I want:
Virtua Fighter 1 - 5 anthology with Fighters Megamix included as a bonus (I can dream)
Sonic Colours/Generations/Lost World Collection
Sega Rally
Jet Set Radio HD Collection
Crazy Taxi 1 and 2
Skies of Arcadia
Shenmue I and II
Burning Rangers
Rez
Cosmic Smash
Panzer Dragoon 1, Zwei, Saga and Orta

Re: Rumour: New Switch Model Launching Early 2021, According To Taiwanese Newspaper

Here we go again... Given how much Nintendo loves hardware revisions in their handheld range, I think it's a given we will get some kind of 'Switch Pro' at some point. Still, it would be nice to go at least a few months without reading "OMG the Switch Pro is totally coming out soon" rumours.

I bet Spawn Wave and RGT85 have already uploaded videos frothing at the mouth over this, haven't they?
