Nintendo's upcoming loyalty program – My Nintendo – may still have yet to launch in the west, but it just recently went live in Japan along with the new Miitomo app. The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, but it's interesting to see the kind of goodies that are being given away over the new service.

First off, it turns out that the Twilight Princess Picross rumour was true, so it seems that the service will have some exclusive games in the months to come. More interestingly is the presence of WarioWare Touched! for the 3DS. It seems that there will now be some DS games available as 3DS downloads; apparently the console can read them as if they were DSiWare apps.
Another important feature is the introduction of 'Missions'. These are achievement-like challenges that range from linking one's Google+ account to My Nintendo to changing one's clothes in Miitomo. In exchange, gamers will receive Gold or Platinum Points depending on the task.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to My Nintendo? Would you like the western lineup to be similar to this? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Hopefully it's better than Club Nintendo.
"Are you looking forward to My Nintendo?"
looks around for Club Nintendo
"Sure I guess."
I mostly want the discounts.
Can't wait for this!
I just created My Nintendo account but how does one requester a game/games?
Like with my club nintendo you just registered the code that came with the game in the box.
ohhh yeah, time to get more free games from My Nintendo. (and discounts too! sweet.)
and Miitomo looking interesting (might try it out only because it's similar to Tomodachi Life, after seeing a video of it.)
Hoping for more discounts, and merch.
Please note my friends; be ready for a better time more wild than before. Join the club for a new Nintendo.
Note- You might want to read every 4 words from my statement above.
Looks like you'll have to buy games in order to get Gold points. Platinum points come from other things - using Nintendo apps and services. Interestingly, the platinum points earned from completing missions related to Miitomo are labeled differently, but function just the same.
Some of these discounts are tempting (mainly Mario 64 for me). Can't wait for this to properly launch in the West.
Maaaannnn.... I'm gonna be so broke.
I will finally be rewarded for my extravagant, reckless spending on all games Nintendo
Its totally cute and easy to use, though it runs a bit laggy on my phone. Platinum points are pouring in. Definitely getting that Zelda Picross.
i just hope i can hold out. since points aren't retroactive, i won't be getting pokken, fire emblem, bravely second, or any other games digitally until this hits noa.
@JaxonH Assuming you're buying digitally
Discounts are probably all I may get but exclusive games count me in I may keep my eye out but may wait on something better than Zelda Picross.
Wow, sounds like there's some exciting new stuff here that wasn't announced, too! DS games downloadable and it seems like their setting up for an achievement system!
@mystman12 it just started but i see lots of potential!
btw just reported by bloomberg that nintendo shares have fallen by about 2 percent. reflective of the services? wonder wonder ponder.
Researching through this new awards program, I'm starting to like the new Club Nintendo (in this case, My Nintendo) already.
I do hope these Missions will spread out to the games we play as well (i.e. Achievements). Tying missions to being "Sign in to this website" or "Hook up your account to whatever" wouldn't be good enough, in my opinion.
Can't try the Miitomo app as I don't feel like changing any of my Android devices' region to Japan, but the rewards that require doing minor stuff on a 3DS report instantly to the My Nintendo site, so that's really something (I DO wish rewards would auto-claim though...). Nintendo Account's coupon system works perfectly, too, and the eShop website sending the purchase and telling the 3DS to download the new purchase just like on PSN and Google Play is just great!
Nintendo is FINALLY growing up!
Well, almost. They still need to ease up on the "one-of-each-system" restriction. At least allow for 2-3 of each system to share game downloads like on PSN (3-4 would be best). Even better is if they can one-up PSN by NOT GROUPING ALL HANDHELDS TOGETHER. I DO NOT want my 3DSes limiting the amount of activated 9th gen Ninty handhelds I could have. On PSN, PSPs take up the same activation slots as the Vita (I assume PS4 and PS3 are separate?), which can get quite annoying.
Also they need to allow Nintendo Account owners to manage their logged in/activated devices from the Nintendo Account website. A user should be able to easily deactivate/force log-off account access of each device for when they trade in a system or buy a new one and don't have access to the older one to do a system transfer.
I would be interested by the exclusive mini-games and price reductions on some e-shop exclusive softwares...
... if this was not delivered only for virtual purchases.
On a side note, the fact that there's Miitomo-labeled Platinum points to me suggests that there will be more games in the future that have specific missions tied to them. I think this will especially be the case for their other upcoming mobile games/apps.
I wonder how many Platinum points you'll unlock by logging in to My Nintendo at Universal Studios once the park is open (or perhaps even before the Nintendo sections are open)?
Well, this is more than underwhelming to me. I couldn't care less for some Miitomo costumes and while some of these discounts and games do look interesting, I don't get why they can't just let us have discounts on any game we want. Just say "You get that many €/$ off if you pay that many points" and done.
Well, sure hope physical goodies are coming soon.
So how many platinum points do you get per full price game purchase?
So you need 950 platinum points to get 20% off a game that's available for 25% cheaper elsewhere? How long will it take to save up that amount? So far they've given us 1 for pre-registering Miitomo. If that's any indication,it could be a long old slog.Saying that, the dates they can be redeemed until aren't that far off,so maybe they will be generous in dishing them out?
@Tsuchinoko how long does it look like it's gonna take to earn 1,000 platinum coins? I need me some Zelda Picross!
@TeoXique At the moment, you can only register downloaded games. If you used Club Nintendo with your Wii/DS/Wii U/3DS connected in the settings, then you should know what I am talking about. You download the game, and either fill out a survey or just get points/coins
@Tsuchinoko Any idea how much gold points are awarded for game purchases?I' predict 50 for full price game,15 to 25 for VC and E-shop only.
i kinda want the pikmin 3 dlc but only so i wouldn't have to spend lol but this is for japan hoping the north american one has more goodies then this or atleast the more expensive pikmin dlc. also hoping it come sto north america before pokken comes out.
@TeoXique By playing them it seems. We'll have to wait to see just how points get doled out. I'd been saving my funds for a good opportunity to download Super Mario Galaxy on my Wii U but now I want to see how much it takes to get 90 Gold Points.
Those discounts look tasty, can't wait.
So... what's the purpose of Miitomo's game tickets? What are they for? Minigames?
At last, digital DS games on the 3DS! I can't believe that is the thing I am celebrating here.
Sadly I can't afford a smartphone so I'm out.
@Torakaka They're less expensive than Nintendo's consoles...
I'm sorry? Achievements that get you stuff that isn't just bragging rights? They get you points? To spend on full digital games or discounts?
Holy hell. If any other company does that they should advertise it more because God damn that's neat
I absolutely called DS games on the DS! I said that in one of the ask Alex videos my comment didn't get red out though! Problem is we get 1 point for miitomo so it'll take forever to get more points I'd be better off just buying games physically rather than waiting months!
Here are examples of some of the missions:
For this to all work Nintendo need unified accounts a.s.a.p as i am sick of having 2 3DS and a Wii U with 2 different NNIDs and not able to download and play the same software on each of the consoles, until then i will stay away from digital downloads.
@Yoshi there have been digital ds games for 3ds in the past in Japan, so it's nothing new.
Wario Ware :Touched on 3ds?
certainly interersting to see DS games on 3DS and thankfully not restricted to new 3DS only.
@Yoshi Same here.
Can't wait to have Order of Ecclesia on my 3DS, along with all the Castlevania DS titles!!
I found a list of the current mission. Looks like Platinum is from doing stuff and Gold is from buying stuff. Also a bunch of the Platinum missions can be done daily. There are 5 single time missions that give 100 Platinum a pop, dailies that give either 5 or 10 a pop, and a couple weeklies at 30 a pop. We'll be over half way to Twilight Princess Picross or Wario Ware Touched right off the bat.

I'm not liking the way these rewards are going and how you build points. I collect Nintendo product but I don't have much time to play therefore I won't get many platinum coins as most. I prefer physical product to digital so I won't get any gold coins. I will be penalised for giving Nintendo money but not using their services in what they clearly deem is they're preferred way. Plus 950 points for a 20% discount on a digital product? That sounds like a lot of points. How are they earned exactly?
This is akin to being given a crumb versus the full meal we had before with Club Nintendo. I can't believe there is any shred of excitement over this nonsense! Obviously they are still money minded and not consumer oriented. Those days of putting their loyal customers first, and what they want most, have been over for quite some time now. Sigh.
@TeoXique After a while, when they took the codes out of the box, it was waiting a few days after you played the game on the Wii U...it then showed up and you were able to register it. I think it's linking your NID with My Nintendo, and any game you play or download, will register with it through the wonderful internet.
It'll be nice to have exclusive games for it, even if it will probably take a long time to get the coins for them. Can't wait to see what the rewards will be at the end of the year for platinum or gold, and hopefully, we'll start to see some nice merchandise for it too. Other than that, does anyone know when it will become available in the US here????
Wariowarewariowarewarioware gimme!!
All right, NoA. You have one job. Make your rewards actually line up with Europe's rewards this time. It was infuriating to see how many things Europe got with Club Nintendo that I didn't.
So here we go..all the games I have and the dlc lol guess I'll start having to save coins again.when it comes to the west.and I won't 21st coins on miitomo
What I'll be interested to see is if they expand this 'missions' thing into a full fledged achievement system. Seeing as how playing Miitomo nets you some stuff, I don't think it's a huge stretch to imagine that they could implement something similar in their future games. Maybe not in this generation, but who knows with the NX?
@manu0 Really? Which games?
@deKay At least Advance Wars Days of Ruin. It was also an exclusive for Club Nintendo Japan. Maybe there have been more games.
At least, DS downloads on 3DS. There were already DSi games available on 3DS so why did anybody say it could not be possible? They make much more sense on 3DS than on Wii U, anyway. About GBA, it's about time we get them on 3DS, too. I really hope Nintendo is not releasing GBA and DS games on NX only.
About My Nintendo, it's similar to Club Nintendo but everything goes digital and you get points for doing silly tasks on Miitono, too. I don't have any objection but I doubt I'll be changing my Mii's clothes everyday.
They gave us one platinum point for pre-registering and we need how many to claim anything?
As suspected, but I'm not sure 20% off will make much difference since digital is often at least that much more expensive in the UK.
The value of the gold points awarded is not bad at all actually,at least with the Japanese one.10 gold points awarded for every 1000 Yen which is just over £6.It looks like buying a full price title will award you 80 gold points. But say there is a game that costs just over 1000 Yen,you are awarded 20 Platinum points instead. So in theory by spending just over 5000 Yen (£31) on 5 separate purchases you can earn 100 gold points, enough to get Super Punch Out for free.Seems pretty decent if you ask me.I wonder how often they'll update the games you can purchase with points?
@Kiyata "This is akin to being given a crumb versus the full meal we had before with Club Nintendo"
Club Nintendo was terrible value! I spent close to £900 last year buying my Wii U,16 full price games and about the same amount of indie and VC games and all I had enough to purchase with my Club Nintendo points before it closed was Advance Wars and Wii Street U.I didn't even want Wii Street U but I had no choice.Going by that image above this is far better.
According to these rewards, a single platinum point is worth virtually nothing.
I'm glad they gave away one whole free platinum point for signing up early. Honestly insulting.
I really hope FLIPNOTE 3D gets realeased in Europe at f****g last! Oh, Nintendo loving you is rough...
@OorWullie You get 10 coins already for 500 Yen. BUT you don't get anything for purchases below 500 Yen, which is kinda stupid. There are a lot of games on the eShop that are 499 Yen. So yeah, you don't get anything for those.
One step forward - two steps back.
Nintendo needs new management/direction.
The Twilight Princess Picross and Warioware game seem pretty tempting to get just to do some daily stuff, I guess I'll download Miitomo then if it's gonna be awhile before the mission stuff includes actual games you can play instead of Miitomo.
Again, no fun for Windows Mobile...
Now we will see just how people will complain that Nintendo isn't getting into times! XD
From the looks of it, this really sounds amazing and anyone who says it otherwise simply want to complain all the time.
So no unified account then?
Google+. Heh.
DS downloads on 3DS will be really nice to have!
@MrPuzzlez Man, I'm really sorry, but Windows Mobile has been in a single-digit market share position for way too long. If you want third-party app compatibility you are likely going to have to switch platforms. As well reviewed as the platform has been over the years Microsoft has been begging and paying and paving the way for developers to come make apps for it, but most don't seem to care. Can't blame devs too much. For a completely different development target you are reaching a very tiny audience.
@OorWullie I'm sorry, it was actually really awesome in North America, but I heard that Europe often got a raw deal from Club Nintendo in the past. I guess maybe now they are trying to balance it back out or something.
Lol i'm never going to get points since i never buy retail games from the eshop.
