Ah, My Nintendo, the download-only reward programme that struggles to find love - to be fair, considering how cool Club Nintendo was once upon a time, it's on a hiding to nothing.
In any case, earlier this month it updated with some new Rewards; as the initiative is so exciting we'd actually forgotten to log in and check. We did post about some Fire Emblem Echoes wallpapers earlier today and, as those of you in North America correctly pointed out, there are other discounts too. If you're in Europe and want Fire Emblem discounts you're in luck as there are loads of them; those details are in our regular Nintendo Download Update.
Anyway, below are the early April additions to My Nintendo Rewards that we should have covered earlier in the week...
North America
- Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (Wii U) - 30% discount for 240 Platinum Points
- Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (Wii U) - 30% discount for 30 Gold Points
- Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS) - 30% discount for 90 Gold Points
Europe
- Metroid (Wii U and 3DS) - 40% off for 20 Gold Points
- Metroid: Zero Mission (Wii U) - 30% off for 180 Platinum Points
- Metroid II: Return of Samus (3DS) - 30% off for 100 Platinum Points
- CastleStorm (Wii U) - 50% off for 40 Gold Points
- Urban Trial Freestyle 2 (3DS) - 20% off for 20 Gold Points, valid until 14th April
- Swapdoodle Add-on Content: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - 30 Gold Points
- Swapdoodle Add-on Content: Mario Kart 8 - 30 Gold Points
- Swapdoodle Add-on Content: Prehistoric Life - 30 Gold Points
Anything tempting there, or would you rather save up for a Luigi's Mansion diorama ornament like in the old days? Sound off, as always, in the comments.

Club Nintendo was better.................Do I win something for saying that?
The absolute worst.
I miss grabbing all those soundtrack CD's. That ending credits one was my finale item and remains one of my favourite to listen to (damn straight I opened it!)
Getting a discount on a Fire Emblem game for points that cost nothing is actually pretty cool--but yeah, the Gold rewards are pretty embarrassing.
5$ promo back please. I want to use my gold coins on what I want not on what they want to sell me. I would also like to see some indie deals. Don't most of us have most of these Nintendo games anyways?
.......So what's everyone up to today?
@Joeynator3000 Just repeating Twitter rants. 😉
I'm happy for the Swap Doodle content. Still have loads of Gold Coins left though. Was hoping for a VC game or two.
No Metroid Fusion or Prime Hunters? I have the others already and already played Zero Mission on my modded Wii.
I'm only missing MF, MPH, and Federation Force. (I don't care what people say about this game)
@rab193 I still no haz one. TwT
It struggles to find love because these "special discounts" can't even match what other services offer as what we in the biz call "regular sales."
As usual, let Platinum rewards be their dumping ground for the truly bogus rewards as those are free, but for the Gold Point loyalty program I'd expect better than just barely anything off some game I already have or don't want at that price.
I've grabbed the two Wii u fire emblem games.
Well for the last month it has said, "COMING SOON
Nintendo Switch rewards"
Yet here I am waiting... Would love to see some themes
Club Nintendo was better.
Some of my gold points are expiring this month. That's an entire year where nothing was worth spending them on
Hey now. These are some gold rewards that interest me. I've been thinking about getting into Fire Emblem and maybe Birthright is a good place to start.
@Joeynator3000 Playing Persona 5
Once again, spending my points is impossible. It's not even just that I don't like the rewards (I do hate them, for the record), it's that the only thing on offer are discounts for games I already own. This awful program makes it so that the most loyal customers (who buy everything) will get no rewards whatsoever. It's a joke. If anything, it's taught me not to buy Nintendo products at full price upon release so I can hope to get them later for cheaper. It's the opposite of an incentive.
Part of me want to use my 100 gold coins expiring this month for Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright since I been procrastinating on getting it for over an year. But with Fire Emblem Echoes coming out next month, my interest is being swayed for the newer game.
Wish gold coins can be more useful towards the dlcs like with the Mario Kart 8 pack 2. At least it should be more useful than platinum coins since they are more valuable and still expires.
@Peace-Boy I rather liked Federation Force. People were just bitter it wasn't a proper Metroid game and chose to close their minds to it entirely instead of giving it a chance as something new and different. It's best played in local co-op, but it's fun, regardless.
So who wants a free download of Flipnote Studio? You can download it with this code :
B0PQ 5MMV 4QJ3 H2R9
There's one downside tho: You can't really do much with flipnote studio, and you can't do much with My Nintendo... My points will expire so maybe I can make someone happy with this.
I'm actually interested in the Sacred Stones discount as I don't have it yet. I own a physical copy of Shadow Dragon, and for now I'm skipping Birthright until my backlog clears up some.
I'm not against how platinum coins are treated, overall, as they're free and easy to collect. However, I'm concerned about my gold coins; I don't make digital purchases often, and I'm afraid some of my coins will expire before something comes up that I DO want. I wish that we could apply gold coins to ANY Nintendo game within reason, not just these odd discounts that pop up. There was an offering of Super Mario 64 (full game for 90 coins) at the start of My Nintendo that I would love to show up again, but I didn't have nearly enough coins at the time.
Personally I miss the Club Nintendo posters the most, it would be great if Nintendo would add physical rewards again , I've noticed that they are giving you points for physical retail purchases again you can claim them on the Switch when you are loading the game .
My Nintendo doesn't have to suck even with digital rewards. There's things they can actively do, such as making special armor available in BotW (this only serves as an example of the potential for other games here), themes for the Switch, high-quality-FLAC-caliber soundtracks from beloved games.
Instead it just does objectively suck, and Club Nintendo was better.
@Captain_Toad You win a year's supply of disappointment!
To be honest, I never bothered with My Nintendo other than the Twilight Princess picross and Fire Emblem Heroes stuff.
@Spoony_Tech I have 360 gold coins. They start expiring in September, but I'm not optimistic I'll even be able to find something worth spending them on by then. The return of the $5 per $50 promo would be amazing.
Europe also has those fire emblem discounts right? I mean why else would the Dutch nintendo and fire emblem fb pages share them?
Guess I'll have more points expiring. Thankfully the gold coins don't expire for another month. Fingers crossed for something actually interesting.
Club Nintendo was good but wasn't great. My Nintendo sure makes club Nintendo look great
I really wish they'd give proper rewards like the old Club Nintendo program used to give. Redeeming coins for discounts on games that have been out for so long which the world and his wife will probably have is a giant let down.
The new rewards program could have and should been so much more. I miss the old days
Why did they begin by offering full software downloads and then regress into unappealing discounts? I saved my points back when games such as Pilotwings and Mario 64 were available and now I feel really silly
Nothing for me, used the Wario Kart 64 discount last month but usually just buy themes cost my mittomo platinum points are expiring.
Would be better if I could actually spend them on something switch related.
@gardevoir7
Speaking as someone who only came into the series with Awakening and fell in love with that game, Fire Emblem Birthright and Conquest were deeply disappointing. I doubt I'll ever try the older FE games (because no thanks Permadeath) but Awakening is solidly in my top 5 3DS games
I'm just going to keep saving my coins for when they add some Switch rewards. Sure, they'll probably be just as disappointing as just about everything else about this service so far, but I'll take my chances.
@Spoony_Tech "5$ promo back please."
That's never coming back. Best we can hope for is 20% off the paid monthly online subscription for 30 gold coins.
In retrospect, I may have saved enough money w/ that DDP on my Wii U purchases that it wound up costing me less than a Switch. Plus all the free yearly games w/ Club Nintendo, plus WWHD that I got w/ MK8D, now that was a deal. Now, Nintneod takes away all points w/ physical game purchases but as far as I can tell doesn't really give us all that much for buying them digitally anyway. Lose -
lose.
Oh well, maybe something good will come out of E3, Nintendo really needs to motivate digital purchasers I think w/ that tiny 32GB storage Switch has. Have early Switch adopters gotten anything special that we won't get this holiday when we buy a Switch either for a cheaper price on sale or bundled w/ a game? Both my kids are playing Zelda on Wii U so we aren't missing out on that.
Can't go back again, but it doesn't seem like Nintendo is trying at all to make going forward any easier.
@Joeynator3000: Playing Lego City Undercover on my Switch. Other than that not much else. It's raining pretty good out.
....I remember only having to worry about Gold and Platnuim when it was time for the end year free game (probably made Platinum twice this year..and do you get points for registering the Switch?) ...Oh how I miss you Club Nintendo..
My Nintendo Rewards are as much of an improvement from Club Nintendo as Mr. Drumpf has been a replacement for Obama.
Make Nintendo Great Again - MNGA!
Club Nintendo was better, but not just because of the rewards. I loved being able to give Nintendo my feedback on what I liked and didn't like about games via a survey in the hope they would address the problems in future iterations.
I don't get it, everyone complains about games like Federation Force and Color Splash because they say Nintendo isn't listening to fans, yet when push comes to shove, no one wants to take the time to give Nintendo their honest feedback; most people seemed to think the Club Nintendo surveys were too tedious and annoying to bother with.
Sure, people are vocal about their opinions in a game trailer's comment section on YouTube and may get a couple hundred likes for it or something, but that isn't a good way for Nintendo to gauge the general consensus from fans like Club Nintendo was. (If they even pay attention to YouTube comments at all.)
The point being, if you have the patience to leave an angry, long-winded comment when a game is poorly made, why not muster up the same amount of patience to take a quick survey that might prevent Nintendo from making more critically panned games? But unfortunately, that isn't an option anymore because no one was satisfied with the original system.
I wonder if people who only have a Switch and are encouraged to sign up find it odd that they can only get rewards for consoles they don't have.
I'm tempted by Metriod 2: Return of Samus but remember constantly getting lost on that game so might not bother.
I hoped for SNES Metroid. Well...
Gotta let the coins expire.
@carlos82 that's a great point
It's been a year, right? I guess all my points are expired in that case... Might as well forget this even exists...
@PtM Wait you're right... thanks for the heads up! 👍🏼
At this point it isn't even funny anymore.
Club Nintendo was better...I actually downloaded games then. Now, not interested in discount offers, wallpapers/backgrounds are ok but wish I could've used points to download the Neo Geo games on Switch or Snake Pass or a newer game that could've used some attention. Probably can't because they are not made by Nintendo...just saying they need better rewards.
@Joeynator3000 It was raining sideways, tornado trigger warning. Ate some Indian food, yum. Printing out certificates for Windows licenses. Now I'm having my daily "Nintendo Life visit while sitting on the porcelain throne" session.
Well. Everyone getting salty about the crappy My Nintendo rewards is still a better love story than Twilight.
Does anyone on here know if the discounts have an expiration? Like if I get the Fates one, can I save it until whenever I have enough money to purchase it (or even better, until the slim chance that it goes on sale)?
Don't you hate pants?
This is pants!
Edit: Now, having said that, I've bought the 30% off Metroid: Zero Mission for 200 platinum points and am seriously considering using the 50% off for CastleStorm for 40 gold points. I don't ever remember seeing that game discounted in any other fashion before.
My points just keep expiring and those are in fairness 2 great games. So I may as well get the discount vouchers even if I don't use them(but I probably will).Gold coins expire every month or 2 at most as well as the platinum points every month. It's about time Nintendo give me something for them, even if they aren't really and I'm just giving them more money.
My Nintendo is way worst than the old Club nintendo; just to say one thing, last week i lost 300 gold coin that i cannot spend because all the offer are for games that i already have.
Wish we could get all the those discounts for Awakening and Fates dlc. :/ More so with Fates since I've mostly been holding out.
Quite disappointing for me since I'm not a fan of Fire Emblem... Then again, I've been disappointed with My Nintendo since, well... ever. I'm still hoping for physical rewards in the future, but for now I'll just be happy with some more themes and other non-app related rewards.
I've been meaning to pick up Shadow Dragon on the Wii U, so I'll just take advantage of that discount this time.
This service would be a LOT better if they just brought back full game rewards (not just discounts) in exchange for gold coins. There are some cool bonuses every once in a while (like the Kid Icarus shorts), but pretty much everything is discounts, and that is very disappointing in my opinion.
I just hope once they switch related rewards are better once they start adding them. For now I just want them to focus on that.
What is this "My Nintendo" rewards program that you guys speak of?
Insert River City Ransom Barf.gif
I played Commando 2 on PC for 4 hours tonight, 16 years old that game, what a game!
Club Nintendo was far better. I was hoping that Nintendo would turn this around but it's been @$$ for more than a year now.
@World Couldn't agree more.
This is a bit of a joke.
Being "rewarded" with a discount that PSN/XLive have as standard (not to mention better discounts and more choice). I find this a bit insulting tbh...
"Hey let us reward you by you spending more with us!"
Getting the Zero Mission and Return of Samus rewards. Also interested in the Fire Emblem rewards currentely available. 30% on Fire Emblem for GBA especially.
Hey atleast one discount interests me! Metroid Zero Mission <3
@PtM Well yeah, it says the reward is available until July, but I'm pretty certain that refers to how long you have to grab the coupon, not to actually use it. At least, I'm pretty sure that's the way it has been with other rewards.
EDIT: Oh! I see it down there in fine print at the bottom. "This discount is valid through 11:59 p.m. PT, August 1, 2017". Pth. Iwata made the whole system sound so much better when it was theoretical.
Europe gets all the good rewards...
Only Fire Emblem game I don't have is Birthright, but it is still cheaper to buy it as DLC with my Conquest cartridge. Still, I might go for Shadow Dragon on the Wii U. Plus the online shop is still on that.
Kind of want to have all Fire Emblem games on one system, but I'll wait to hear how VC works with the Switch (I just don't expect DS games to come)
I already own a physical copy of Conquest, and wouldn't mind trying Birthright for a reduced price. But I'm curious, if I use my gold coins for the reward, can I still download it at the reduced price through the in-game store as DLC, or do I then have a digital copy of the game as well? I mean, I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious how I should make the purchase. Interested if anyone has an answer to these questions.
@Spoony_Tech
Digital Deluxe Program >>>>>>>>Club Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>My Nintendo
The best time was when we had the DDP and Club Nintendo combined. I was buying stuff left and right.
If they would extend the expiration time frames or better than that just remove expiration . This would be a good start. Sweeten the pot and allow converting points to eShop currency.
It would've been better to offer a discount on "Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation" in order to better apply to the entire fanbase.
