Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Donkey Kong's Redesign In Mario Kart 9?

Porky

@Smithicus Nintendo acknowledged Mario Kart Tour as a main series title in their infographic during the MK8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, making it Mario Kart 9. People don't have to like it, but it's the fundamental truth.

You probably don't remember or weren't scrolling through fourms back 15 - 20 years ago, but there was an ongoing debate over whether or not Mario Kart Super Circuit and DS are mainline entries because an artificial reason given that they were on handheld; similarly to the Mario Party handheld entries. Then came along Mario Kart 3DS bestowed with a number as its subtitle then the debate was over & forgotten. The Mario Kart Tour mainline entry discourse has the same energy.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Switch) - Aping A Retro Classic

Porky

Is there a control option to move DK with the D-Pad? What I couldn't stand with the 3DS version was if you wanted to use D-Pad for movement, the controls for ABYX and LR would swap. There was no middle ground. I absolutely cannot play a 2D platform with a control strick. Give me the option to play with the D-Pad with my prefered buttons!

Re: Splatoon 3 Version 9.2.0 Arrives Today, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Porky

@KoopaTheGamer Whether you think people will return to the games or not is besides the point. I personally like to go back & replay the stages in the single campaign after some time for a refresher, maybe improve my clear times, and the DLC ones in Splatoon 2/3 have good replayability (Side Order most noteworthy)

Can you agree that locking a glorified music player to online connectivity is bad design? Splatoon 1 and 2 at least had theirs accessible in the City allowing to be played offline.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Porky

@Zeebor15 Why the hostility? Joke or not, 33 months since the first game been available on NSO. 33 months! Players questioning Nintendo's slugish momentum in implementing the sequel to appear before now is understandable; even considering there's more work needed with getting another company like Rare/Microsoft for their cooperation. Ultimately, Nintendo is the ones who decide WHEN these titles launch on their service. They've been sitting on Tooie since BK's debut so they can strech their NSO releases so thin. At this rate, Nintendo won't release their own heavily requested titles on NSO like Smash 64, DK 64 before Switch 2 debut.

Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Has Officially Gone Gold, Out This November

Porky

@MatthewTaranto I would be inclined to believe you were it not for the addition of them rewriting Roxanne's name to 'Sellma' in DQIX and subsequent spinoffs she appears in running a service like Ruida. I contest the naming of these characters reference more than the puns that align with their service and their names reference Marges sisters from the Simpsons. That's butchery either way; it's not the job of the translater to completely alter naming of the creators vision so they can 'cleverly' make puns that never existed in the original. If they wanna name chatacters with puns in mind referencing their duties and other variants, go create it theirselves. Don't take someone elses work, rewrite it, and credit it as your handiwork. Which these localizers do as failed writers.

Re: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Has Officially Gone Gold, Out This November

Porky

@ItsATM Downplaying it is all the more reason why it was unnecessary to change. "Little changes" add up. If it was all inconsequential, then none of it would need to change in the first place.

Let me ask you, How do you translate Ruida's Tavern to Patty's Place? The GBC version is more faithful having the NPC and her store be named Ruida and apparently the Patty name choice is referencing the Simpsons character. That's the tip of the iceberg, and knowing SE's ethnics department telling the devs what to alter to meet 'global standards' ala sensitive snowflakes that is far 'n between, there will be a plethora of changes to the dialogue on top of rewriting character and locale names to reference pop culture like the aforementioned, Patty's Place.

Re: Konami Reveals More Game Boy Titles For Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection

Porky

@kevinm360 According to the Amazon listing for the game, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6: Expert 2 will only be available in Japanese. My theory is Konami will be including Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel and since it's a modified version of the the aforementioned, they probably see no need to translate it.

Apparently it's been confirmed only the GB/Color/Advanced games will be featured which they do have 12 GBA games alone to make up more than 10 games to be included as they stated. It is a shame because would love to see Forgotten Memories, Duelist of the Roses, and Falsebound Kingdom in one convenient package.

Re: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Dev Reveals Nintendo Partnership Was Years In The Making

Porky

@LuXifer I forgot multiplayer until you brought it up. It is almost near non-existent with how they handled the online. They degressed to DS/Wii online multiplayer levels where you can only play with those registered as friends; no random online matchmaking. Still to this day I haven't been able to find players to set up a game with after scouring fourms and threads. So much of an obstacle for a niche game. Advanced Wars By Web (a free unofficial site based off the original games with online matchmaking) is the preferred option passionate players would play over AW Reboot Camp.

Re: Square Enix Reveals New Character Art For Every Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Job Class

Porky

@the_beaver It's extends more than a singular character altercations (adding more clothing on females seen here and coloring in the lips on the troll enemy). Removal of Male & Female labelings in favor for Type A & B nonsense, and this is also mostly just visual stuff we know of right now. Localization will most certainly stray from being faithful-- that's a guarantee for modern Dragon Quest games, but character and locales name rewrites to reference pop culture. How do you translate Ruida's Tavern to Patty's Place otherwise? The GBC version is more faithful having her be named Ruida and apparently the Patty name choice is referencing the Simpsons character. You're not playing the writers vision of the game, rather, you're playing a vision of some wannabe writer who couldn't make it big on their own having to tamper others work so they can call it theirs.

Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection Spotlights Two More Games

Porky

I'm waiting to find out how hard this collection has been censored.

Note that it's not a matter of "if". I have no benefit of the doubt to give Capcom in 2024 especially since they listed broad censorship on their website for the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2. Capcom absolutely censored this too somehow and I'm waiting to learn how bad it is.

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?

Porky

Third version most definitely. DLC is not cheaper overall compared to a third version. To buy a full priced game with DLC that cost 50% more, you have to pay... 50% more. Because guess what, if you bought the original game, and you bought a third version, both at full price, you can sell the original version and get your money back. Then you've actually only paid one full priced game for one finished product instead of 150% of one full priced game for NOT actually a finished product.

Re: Nintendo Releases New EarthBound Beginnings Switch Online Icons

Porky

@PoeTheLizard These kind of disclaimers have been added before and still had content removed despite saying otherwise.

@Princess_Lilly Stop feigning ignorance, I explained to you yesterday. And if it was such a non issue, Nintendo would had no trouble greenlighting a translation by now.

@Troubbble You need to understand that localizers will never produce a faithful localization. Their job is literally to vandalize foreign work of art. What you mean to say is, a faithful translation.

Re: Mother 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online, But There's A Catch

Porky

@demacho Nintendo will not throw a bone to its stubborn fans clinging onto unsupported hardware out of the goodness of their heart so they can, say, play limited-licensed software infinitely at no cost, that's the precedent I meant. Heck, they didn't even bother to discount their own games on the 3DS and WiiU digital store of the last weeks or months, or a year for that matter as a last 'hoorah' to its customer base.

Nintendo Badge Arcade matches close to the precedent, besides. After April, we won't be able to access the hub to remove or add badges obtained because it has a mid start-up online check when you boot up the game. Lastly, I refer you to Nintendo's Account User Agreement, section Purchase and Subscription Terms. I've grown weary of this talk, later.
