@LuXifer I forgot multiplayer until you brought it up. It is almost near non-existent with how they handled the online. They degressed to DS/Wii online multiplayer levels where you can only play with those registered as friends; no random online matchmaking. Still to this day I haven't been able to find players to set up a game with after scouring fourms and threads. So much of an obstacle for a niche game. Advanced Wars By Web (a free unofficial site based off the original games with online matchmaking) is the preferred option passionate players would play over AW Reboot Camp.
A shame they've not patched the game once to solve game crashing bugs and unintended interactions with the units. Minor gripe of mine was they altered the dialogue to make it more 'politically correct' as well and what was replaced didn't have as much impact as it did in the originals.
@the_beaver It's extends more than a singular character altercations (adding more clothing on females seen here and coloring in the lips on the troll enemy). Removal of Male & Female labelings in favor for Type A & B nonsense, and this is also mostly just visual stuff we know of right now. Localization will most certainly stray from being faithful-- that's a guarantee for modern Dragon Quest games, but character and locales name rewrites to reference pop culture. How do you translate Ruida's Tavern to Patty's Place otherwise? The GBC version is more faithful having her be named Ruida and apparently the Patty name choice is referencing the Simpsons character. You're not playing the writers vision of the game, rather, you're playing a vision of some wannabe writer who couldn't make it big on their own having to tamper others work so they can call it theirs.
@MidnightDragonDX Have a look again, because the shorts are visible on her in-game sprite. The brown pixels on her hips. Though, it appears her shirt isn't in the in-game sprite (for now perhaps)
The selection is going to consist of all their handheld Gameboy and Gameboy Advance entries. I adore Duelist of the Roses, but I'm setting my expectations low for this compilation. Would of been nice if they revealed the number of titles and systems that are involved initially for speculation sake.
I'm waiting to find out how hard this collection has been censored.
Note that it's not a matter of "if". I have no benefit of the doubt to give Capcom in 2024 especially since they listed broad censorship on their website for the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2. Capcom absolutely censored this too somehow and I'm waiting to learn how bad it is.
Has the reviewer downloaded the game onto the internal memory or the micro sd card? Is their Switch modded? Are they playing on V1 Switch rather than an OLED? These are questions I seen asked by Pokemon Scarlet/Violet enthusiasts to explain why others have been encountering similar crashes. It's your faulty system, not the game. (I jest)
The online is mostly barren from my experience. Maybe find matches with 3 others tops and the rest are filled with bots. If my vs level has an impact on what players can join my games, I think they should do away with that in an update.
Surprising that Nintendo supported them for as long as they did. Especially since they have a track record of washing their hands of their servers as soon as their next big thing is out.
I know it was a shameless plugin for Princess Peach Showtime, but the incident accord months before the game was out, just to be clear. In addition, 17 hours is roughly triple the amount of hours the game can be beaten.
Third version most definitely. DLC is not cheaper overall compared to a third version. To buy a full priced game with DLC that cost 50% more, you have to pay... 50% more. Because guess what, if you bought the original game, and you bought a third version, both at full price, you can sell the original version and get your money back. Then you've actually only paid one full priced game for one finished product instead of 150% of one full priced game for NOT actually a finished product.
@PoeTheLizard These kind of disclaimers have been added before and still had content removed despite saying otherwise.
@Princess_Lilly Stop feigning ignorance, I explained to you yesterday. And if it was such a non issue, Nintendo would had no trouble greenlighting a translation by now.
@Troubbble You need to understand that localizers will never produce a faithful localization. Their job is literally to vandalize foreign work of art. What you mean to say is, a faithful translation.
@demacho Nintendo will not throw a bone to its stubborn fans clinging onto unsupported hardware out of the goodness of their heart so they can, say, play limited-licensed software infinitely at no cost, that's the precedent I meant. Heck, they didn't even bother to discount their own games on the 3DS and WiiU digital store of the last weeks or months, or a year for that matter as a last 'hoorah' to its customer base.
Nintendo Badge Arcade matches close to the precedent, besides. After April, we won't be able to access the hub to remove or add badges obtained because it has a mid start-up online check when you boot up the game. Lastly, I refer you to Nintendo's Account User Agreement, section Purchase and Subscription Terms. I've grown weary of this talk, later.
@Princess_Lilly Whatever. Ultimately, Nintendo does consider these things 'else they would had folded and translated it by now. They've had ample opportunities: originally release on GBA, anniversaries, rereleases coinciding with Japan, etc. It seems that Nintendo knew the fans would be devastated with no Mother 3 translation so they prepared a consolation prize of giving the west five heavily desired Microsoft/Rare games. Doesn't dispell the disappointment, but they tried I think.
@demacho They could but that’s generally not something Nintendo tends to do. Likely scenario is they'll carry the service over while leaving the Switch to further incentivise people to buy their latest consoles.
They're literally games as a service. You don't own them. That's why people hate this.
@Princess_Lilly They are like okama, sorta the Japanese version of drag queen. The attention seekers that wanna find offensive in everything will contrive it like that's Japan/Nintendo's depiction of trans and make a ruckus online, damaging Nintendo's image. And we know Nintendo cares a lot about their perceived image more nowadays. Case and point, Advanced Wars Reboot Camp delayed years due to ongoing U-know-what-rain war
If you're referring to Moonside, Ness & party wasn't drunk. It was a projection injected to their minds by the Mani Mani statue.
@demacho The app checks if you have NSO membership weekly upon startup IIRC. Once the service concludes, people won't be able to access them unless they hack their system, incrypt the unlock key or whatever.
If Nintendo had any intention in localizing it, now would had been the time to match the Japanese release. So they don't and honestly that's for the better. A faithful fan translation exists and Nintendo Treehouse of today would butcher the heck out of it in localization.
It has lots of themes that are not okay with modern west like the portrayal of the Magypsies, human resembling beings whose traits include masculine bodies, facial hair, behave and dress incredibly feminine. They look trans without trying to fool you basically and pretty intergal to the story so they wouldn't be able to bypass it. Also there's a segment where Lucas & party eats mushrooms that they get drugged out having to traverse out of the forest while in their unusual state.
Least to say is if Nintendo butchered them or not, they would get a lot of flak for the censoring or their image will be damaged if they remained faithful because people will cry out online and make a big deal out of nothing.
You do not want an official Mother 3 localization made today, not with Nintendo's Treehouse team in charge of it. We already have something that's better, accurately fan translated by the most passionate fan whereas Treehouse would surely change instances they deem unacceptable to make it appeal more to the 'westen modern audience'.
@swoose I was being rhetorical, those I listed being excuses by detractors in past Shiver wins. If mirror matches did count, the most popular team would be farming the heck out of clout off themselves and make it not even a chance for the other teams. Mirror matches don't harm any team, they just were unlucky with the win distribution
The best part of Splatfest begins! And you don't even have to play a single match to appreciate it.
Let the salt over which idol won (or more specifically which one DIDN'T win) begin.
Was it simps? Japan? Some other conspiracy? Only time will tell! The new cope being thrown around is 'mirror matches' even though they've been prevalent since after the first Splatfest of S1.
@ArcadianLegend99 Reggie ex-Prez revealed before that the Nintendo Treehouse team are sent to Japan about every two months to work with the Japan devs to censor at the source instead.
@SlowPokemon I've read the disclaimer; I generously quoted it for you even. Suppose 'some' would be an indicator, but why even have the disclaimer in the first place if you're going to further neuter dialogue anyway? Could keep quiet like Nintendo does with their remasters of Pikmin 1 & 2.
That aside, how's it better? Feels forced. @Lizuka Reminds me of crunchyroll with onimai where they changed girls' sitting posture and girly behavior to omit 'girl.' They're trying to remove gender from common behavior and attiaire of males and females because of their world views. And that's just a spec of what's been discovered that's changed so far. Shouldn't be surprised at this point since Crapcom loves that ESG money.
@Pat_trick I hear what you're saying, and that's all great, but I stopped caring. I wish you the same.
@FatBeverly You state no one is playing this game; only wanting to because of the announcement of the online service closure and this article. No, because it's been disfunct for 4 months. Before that, the activity may have not been booming, but there was a dedicated playerbase.
The world doesn't revolve around you two, just because you hadn't touched these games doesn't mean it was without players. Nintendo spent half a year resolving Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 to get it back running, if it was any later they likely would had discontinued sooner as well like Steel Divers. Those last generation games are thriving last I played this weekend.
@FatBeverly @Pat_trick People couldn't play online for months because multi billion company was incompetent in rectifying an issue for a decade old game.
It really sounds like they plan to pull the plug early. Why would they bother with this message if not?
"Please note that if an event occurs that would make it difficult to continue online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software, we may have to discontinue services earlier than planned"

He's doing one last run before the servers gets axed and the series is quite popular. It'll be sad that won't be possible in the coming months.
@DestructoDisk Nah, I'd rather listen to Google translated Text-To-Speech robot voices say what the ACTUAL creators wrote, than hear localizers replace with corny flowery word bloat, rewrite dialogue that fits in their worldviews, and turn everything into Gen Z/modern slang.
