Re: Feature: The Wii U's Journey - Four Years of Excellence, Failure and Indifference

Peek-a-boo

Thomas is absolutely spot on here.

2013 was full of promising optimism, especially with the last four months of the year dishing out The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and the majestic Super Mario 3D World.

2014 was arguably the greatest year for the Wii U; Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8 and gave us the best Super Smash Bros. yet! It was definitely a year to remember.

2015 gave us Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, two brilliant new games, then it all started to go swiftly downhill after the latter game was released.

I haven't bought a single game for my Wii U this year, which speaks volumes... especially from a big Nintendo fan like myself.

The Nintendo Switch looks like it is going to have an exciting launch window however, the real game begins once the excitement gradually peters out. Interesting times ahead.

Re: Video: Catch Up With All The Super Smash Bros. Final Presentation Footage

Peek-a-boo

I'm a big fan of the Fire Emblem series however, six characters is three (or even four) characters too many.

I actually groaned out loud when I saw Corrin whereas I was pleased to see Bayonetta; a rather stark contrast between the two reveals.

I think Cloud should have been saved for last, but hey ho!

A real shame that Shovel Knight wasn't included, and the lack of variety with The Legend of Zelda characters is a bit of a damp squib.

All-in-all, Super Smash Bros. U has a pretty good roster that will keep us fans going for quite some time. A bit sad that these Smash Directs have come to end...

Re: Rumour: Data Miners Leak Some of the Information From Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct

Peek-a-boo

Seeing as British citizens never got Super Smash Bros. on the N64, I would be absolutely thrilled if the game was available on Virtual Console as soon as the Smash Direct comes to an end.

Anything else would be a nice bonus, although I hope it isn't just another re-reveal of Cloud and an outfit based on Geno. Will we see the results of the Smash Ballot that came about a little while ago?

I thoroughly hope so!

Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015

Peek-a-boo

Splatoon was the only game on my Wii U (this year) that was not only original, but it felt fresh and had a certain 'newness' that has been sorely missing from Nintendo for quite a long time.

Super Mario Maker is great however, the community and their ideas were not quite as great unfortunately. This should have been released on the Wii U on day one instead of New Super Mario Bros. U too.

Not a bad year, but not exactly the most compelling compared to 2013 and 2014 respectively. I am still patiently waiting for the new The Legend of Zelda!

Re: The Wii U's Broad Audience Means Star Fox Zero's Delay Won't Matter, Says Nintendo UK

Peek-a-boo

@fungusar You just so happen to be in a very, very tiny minority then, which is no bad thing to be fair.

The million selling games I listed are big gaps in the Wii U line-up this Christmas, whether you 'give a poopitypoopoop' about them or not.

Also, if you openly think those are 'teenage kind of games', then what are the kind of games you're playing? Kids ones?

It is all too easy to label things you don't particularly like, you know?

Re: The Wii U's Broad Audience Means Star Fox Zero's Delay Won't Matter, Says Nintendo UK

Peek-a-boo

All that he has said seems fair enough, but there is always an enormous gaping hole at Christmas time for Nintendo with the lack of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Fallout 4, FIFA, Minecraft, Star Wars Battlefront and so and on.

Outside of Mario Tennis and Xenoblades, the latter of which is a pretty niche game here in the UK, there is nothing appealing about the Wii U this Christmas.

One might argue that Splatoon and Super Mario Maker is 'good enough' however, in reality, it doesn't much of a different at all.

The Wii U is £249 over here; a standalone Xbox One can be purchased for £279 and you can buy the Uncharted Collection PlayStation 4 bundle for £299.

TL;DR - what does Nintendo have to stand out of the crowd against those two this Christmas?

Re: Super Mario Maker Grabs Sixth Place in NPD US Results and Boosts Wii U System Sales By Over 100%

Peek-a-boo

@IceClimbers PlayStation 4 sold a shy over 550,000 this time last September, which means sales are down 36% from last year. Destiny was - and still is - the biggest new IP release (in terms of sales and profit), ever.

Next month will be VERY interesting though; a $50 price cut for the PS4 versus Halo 5. Whoever 'wins' will eek out by a couple of thousands, if that.

The gap remains at approximately 865,000 between the two.

If Sony hold onto that by years end, or even manage to pass the one million mark, then Microsoft will have an incredibly tough time of it, especially with their biggest IP helping them out this holiday season.

Re: Review: Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water (Wii U)

Peek-a-boo

As much as I enjoy reading articles, previews and reviews on Nintendo Life, it does have a tendency of scoring games higher than elsewhere.

Only Nintendo Enthusiast, Nintendo Life and Nintendo World Report (three Nintendo websites) have given the fifth Fatal Frame a seven or above, which isn't exactly inspiring.

Oh well; it looks like the second in the series continues to remain the best.

Re: Octodad: Dadliest Catch Has Been Delayed, Release Date Should Be Announced Soon

Peek-a-boo

It's one of my favourite indie games in recent times.

It was also the very first digital game I purchased on my PlayStation 4 and it is genuinely laugh out loud funny in places, especially Octodad's totally oblivious wife and children regarding his 'appearance'.

The last two levels were quite a departure from the first half-a-dozen mess-around sandbox-ish levels, but it was a necessary change to bring the story to a conclusion, so to speak.

Wii U owners are in for a treat!

Re: Miyamoto: Star Fox Zero Has Been Delayed, "I Am Very Sorry"

Peek-a-boo

Star Fox Zero didn't look particularly inspiring at E3 this year and I am genuinely not surprised that it needed to be in the oven for a little bit longer.

It's probably the best decision in the long run, but I don't think this will be a particularly good Star Fox game; none of the videos yet shown looks to be much fun, in my opinion.

Re: Review: Star Sky (Wii U eShop)

Peek-a-boo

At least you can credit the developer for trying something new/original as opposed to yet another 'platforming action' game, which we already have an abundance of on the Wii U.

This sounds like my cuppa tea, and for £3.60, a game for the price of a pint, it's worth a try. The visuals alone pips my curiosity to play the game even more so!

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th September (Europe)

Peek-a-boo

Year Walk is one of the very best games on an iOS device alongside the likes of Monument Valley and Ridiculous Fishing and is an essential purchase for all Wii U owners.

I am surprised that it is only £6.29 after the recent Badlands game being £9.99, which is a little bit too expensive for me to buy a second time.

Not a bad week in all honesty!
