It may have fallen to the back of many gamers' minds, but Octodad: Dadliest Catch is still due to receive a port on Wii U. The popular Indie PC game follows the adventures of an octopus masquerading as a typical suburban father and his attempts to hide his true identity from his family. Players must struggle to perform mundane tasks such as doing chores around the house or going shopping without giving themselves away. The game is just as odd as it sounds and while its release may have been pushed back a bit, hopefully we can expect it soon.
8WorldsNews recently reached out to Young Horses β the developer behind the release β enquiring as to when we could expect the game to come out. Evidently, Young Horses ran into some unforeseen certification issues that took a significant amount of time to fix and consequently forced it to miss the launch window. Nonetheless, the issue has been resolved and a new release date should be set soon. Here's the text:
We should know an exact date for release soon. We ran into some unforeseen issues in certification that we weren't aware of before and took a while to fix.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Octodad on the Wii U? For those of you who played it before on other consoles, how is it? Drop us a comment in the section below.

I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything recently since I thought it was supposed to be out already and looked on Nintendo's website which still said "Summer 2015". Guess this explains it, don't know for sure if I'll get this, but I think it does look fairly fun.
I don't blame them, this seems to happen with a lot of Wii U ports. Here's to hoping that the NX, while I still hope will differ from its competition, is easier to develop for.
In my mind a certification delay is a sign that the developer is actively working on a project and on the threshold of releasing it, so I can overlook a slight delay to deal with it...
@Nicolai
You're the first Nintendo Lifer I've ever seen to say "I still hope will differ from its competition."
On topic: I agree. Too many developers are delaying their games on Wii U simply due to programing bugs. Perhaps if the NX uses the rumored Android technology...?
Tried a demo of Octodad and it made me laugh. So yes I'm interested if the Wii U port is good.
I played it on the Mac with multitouch. It was a lot of fun. Although I doubt that the Wii U would be capable of rendering all of the details of Octodad in full resolution at 60fps. You really need that smooth framerate for this game with all those flopping tentacles imho.
It's one of my favourite indie games in recent times.
It was also the very first digital game I purchased on my PlayStation 4 and it is genuinely laugh out loud funny in places, especially Octodad's totally oblivious wife and children regarding his 'appearance'.
The last two levels were quite a departure from the first half-a-dozen mess-around sandbox-ish levels, but it was a necessary change to bring the story to a conclusion, so to speak.
Wii U owners are in for a treat!
I played through the campaign with a friend and I must say, I'm really hyped to own it on Wii U.
@brandonbwii didn't Nintendo hammer that rumour pretty quickly and effectively
Why not cancel this version in its entirety and get working on more shorts for the PC version? Or even a sequel maybe? Gush I love Octodad.
I've been wanting this ever since I first heard the theme song. My pc is a dinosaur, so I'm definitely in for the Wii U version.
Nice to read all the praise here. I was mildly interested, now I'm a bit more.
You're a dad now, you're an octopus now. You're a dad, you're an octopus, you're a dad, you're anβ
...I'll be quiet now.
@abe_hikura
Yeah they did unfortunately. I thought it was a good idea too.
Regarding Octodad, I thought it was a funny, quirky game on PS4 and worth a go for Wii U owners if it makes it. Light but good fun.
As annoyed as I am that it took two months after the launch window for them yo announce that they had to fix it some more, I will have patience. As long as the game makes it to the Eshop, I'm fine with a delay.
@brandonbwii Nintendo said that won't happen.
@SmoochyTea Haven't you seen Splatoon?
Well I'm glad they're putting effort into this! A fixed game is far better than a broken one!
Is he a Man or an Octopus?
Weird how all of these indie games like Freedom Planet have problems with releasing their games on the Wii U.
No octo-puns? Ok, then.
They are delaying the release for playable octolings, in splatoon. The truth is, octodad is hiding all his illegitimate children from his family. That's what the whole game is about and what you are REALLY hiding.
Thanks, wondered what happened to Octodad,...but what ever happened to Octomom?...
@Not_Soos I have that same dream, except I'm a teepee, then a wigwam, a teepee, a wigwam.. Doctor says I'm two tents...
@Not_Soos ha!
This looks like a game my kids will love watching me play.
Octodad isn't super long but I had fun with it on PC. Might double dip, maybe, if the price is right and there's something compelling about the Wii U version.
