Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the latest major retail release on the Switch, and it's off to a solid start in the UK.
The results for last week (physical retail sales) show the Ubisoft title making its debut in second place, behind PS4 release Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Though it's a little disappointing that another Switch title has been held to second spot, it's nevertheless a positive start for the crossover release.
Three more Switch titles can be found in the top 40; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the next up in 13th place as it shows solid ongoing momentum. Though it also has a Wii U version, current-gen sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have helped it to secure 20th place, while Splatoon 2 is just behind in 21st. We only have one 3DS title to account for this week, however, with Pokémon Sun in 35th place.
A pretty good start for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and it'll be interesting to see how its momentum holds up next week.

Good. I still got my copy sitting on its shelf shrink wrapped waiting for me to actually play it lol. Looking forward to when I do.
that's a great start
Another Switch title misses out on number 1. I know BOTW missed out, it deserved top spot but was denied by Horizon. Did MK8D reach number 1? It's disappointing as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy wasn't in its debut week. It came out the week before so Mario + Rabbids should have stood a better chance of toppling it.
Well, it's understandable. Uncharted is a proven franchise and the PS4 has way more potential buyers.
Not to bad to be honest. Still glad most first party games reach the top 5
People don't seem to realise there are 20 times more PS4. I think being in the top 10 is really impressive for the Switch.
Why so much negativity from the author for not getting to the first spot? Second place is a complete success.
That's a great performance - PS4 has a much larger user base to sell to so it's not a slight on it that it couldn't dislodge Uncharted. It's a great game and a well deserved 2nd spot
Don't think there's any shame in losing out to a game from one of the biggest IPs on Playstation. They'd surely consider it being so high to be a success. Very well deserved too!
@Rhaoulos I totally Agree with you,Switch Games being Compared to PS4 it means a lot even though if it get below 2nd Place still it should be GREAT!cuz the Specs between Switch & PS4 is huge difference.
Great Job Switch
Pleasantly surprised by this. Very impressive for a new IP. Well done UbiSoft. Can't believe I just said that.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it's not a disappointment at all. A turn-based tactical strategy game debuts number 2 on a Nintendo platform.
This is nothing but great news.
Not an interesting game. I'm not surprised it didn't make the top First off, it's not interesting. Second, it's a spin-off. Both lead to not being on the top. Quite obvious.
@kobashi100 It's good news but still a bit disappointing.
I was in a branch of Smyth's Toys the other day, and the guy in front of me was picking up a copy. He was telling the assistant that he knew all about Super Mario Odyssey, but he didn't know anything about Kingdom Battle until he saw it on the shelf. To that end, I've seen some really nice in-store displays but not much above the line activity. Uncharted is a big franchise and PS4 has a huge install base. I'd call second place a very respectable result. I hope Kingdom Battle continues to sell well, it's a great game.
I just picked it up yesterday and am enjoying it so far. Not sure if it should be a full on £50 download though.
This is a good result for the UK
That is a good result compared to a big PS4 release. hopefully, more people keep picking it up I know I am before I go on holiday. Need something for the flight.
@Yasaal Speak for yourself, sir. Don't make your opinion sound like it's a fact.
Nice! Mario + Rabbids is a good game!
PS4 have a larger install base then Switch.
Well its a niche genre in a crossover where half the characters are despised at full price on a much lower selling system...vs a spin off of an established IP on a bigger system sold at half price as standard
This game is an amazing addition to the existing line up of games. It's a wonderful singleplayer game which offers a well-designed world with lots of collectibles which make you replay levels and make you want to explore every single corner of the worlds. The jokes are quite funny, the style is great and the music is adding a nice relaxing atmosphere to it. The levels have a good learning curve. This game is a great singleplayer game post Zelda in my opinion. It's also perfect to relax after the odd, quite fast-paced Splatoon session. I say this even though I have never really played a proper Mario game before nor am I a huge rabbids fan. If it had online multiplayer of some sort it would be perfect.
Great to see it in 2nd place!
Great game.
If this had online and one on one versus mode it would've been perfect.
Seriously good stuff, happy to see it do well.
First, second, who cares.
I'm enjoying the hell out if it and that's all that matters to Mr.
It's ridiculous to compare sales of PS4 games to those of Switch at this point given the huge disparity of user bases at this moment. Not to mention it going up against its flagship franchise (this isn't a true Mario game in that sense), so second is a great achievement for what is a great game.
It can't have helped how some supermarkets have treated Switch though, I went to buy the game from Sainsbury's on launch day and it wasn't even on the shelf. When I asked about it, the manager of that department had never heard of it! So off he scampered to the warehouse to get it. Then in Asda 2 days ago I wanted the wired Hori pad but the label said out of stock, I asked at customer services and they found a box full in the back and I bought one, today I returned to the same store to find the label still says out of stock! Do they not want to sell anything?
I think this is pretty impressive for the game so fair play to them... smaller install base, minimal shelf space dedicated to it and more niche. The test will be the first 2-3 weeks sales. If it can shift a steady amount of units, it will encourage further Switch development.
I actually saw seven Switch systems just sitting on a shelf at my local Target two days ago. And there I was, with no money to buy one. 😞
Still pretty great. Judging by this game's universal praise, it's well deserved too.
@Curlynob Really? People still walk into shops and buy games they've never heard of? I guess the Mario brand still means something.
Brilliant news. I'll hold my hand up and acknowledge being a total hater when the game was formally announced, but I've been playing nom stop all weekend. Easily one of the best surprises all year. It oozes quality, polish, charm, and is absolute blast to play. I'm really hoping some more Nintendo alumni get started on with the DLC.
The Switch is still newer. I mean there are a LOT more PS4s in existence than Nintendo Switches. So It takes a smaller percentage of the install base to buy a new game for it to sell more copies. I think hitting number 2 when when you consider that is quite impressive.
Besides, this is a strategy game, with Mario and Rabbids. No matter how good it is, and it is quite solid, that's still gonna turn some people off. Some people really dislike strategy games, some people are really turned off by Rabbids, some people wont take the game seriously because the flavor is so juvenile. It happens.
Best mario game since galaxy 2
@chardir true story bro. I went in there to see what their trade in prices were like. Terrible is the answer. Even Game offered considerably more.
Why is this "disappointing"? The game is still selling well.
@krvstkvlt Stating the obvious is now an opinion? I for one was excited when the leaks were found online, but later on it took on a worse image and turned into a disappointment. I was expecting pure top quality as Ubisoft and Nintendo were involved, but what I got was repetitive gameplay mixed with poop jokes. Notable reviewers like IGN and Gamexplain pointed it out, so I consider it a fact. Plus, it's a group of reviewers saying that. Just like how multiple reviewers praising Zelda led people to believe it's a masterpiece, reviews pointing toward the negatives more for Mario + Rabbids is leading people to believe it's a typical kiddish game. In no way am I saying it should equal Zelda because obviously masterpieces don't come everyday, but this game disappointed quite a few people. "There's strength in numbers" and so there's quite the strength pointing towards this game being a disappointment. And this is coming from a Mario superfan. I love Mario, but this game disappointed me and many others. Might as well wait for Odyssey then...
Very impressive considering Uncharted is on a console full of users and the price is half that of Rabbids, well done Ubisoft.
Considering the initial reaction this game got, it's a wonder first week.
@Cosats I only see one negative comment and it's not really a negative comment just a slight disappointment.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think it did
@Yasaal
Reviews are opinions as well. Not facts.
A turn-based strategy game featuring the Rabbidson a system that's been out 4 months only beaten to the top by a spin-off in a huge series on a Console that's been out 4 years and sold millions more?
Great result. No other way of spinning it.
@Yasaal The reviews were mostly positive. Pointing out some flaws =/= game is a disappointment.
A lot of people really liked the game
@Yasaal Love it when someone idiotic confuses opinion for fact. I also love it when said moron doesn't be constructive just screeches like the buffoon they are. What a reminder of our place. Some people are merely simpletons.

@electrolite77 Alright then. Up to you.
Mario + Rabbids had the 4th biggest sales debut for a Switch game in the UK, behind Zelda BOTW, MK8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.
Nobody should have expected the game to outsell Uncharted LL. The Switch's install base is still small, and Uncharted is massive the the UK (Lost legacy had a bigger debut than every Mario game outside of Mario Kart Wii).
@IceClimbers True. But this game performed average... Reviewers pointed that out too. I expected better though. At least an above average. To be honest as a Mario fan, I was quite disappointed and I blame Ubisoft for the negative reviews of Mario + Rabbids.
@R4z0rGr1nd3r Apart from blatantly insulting me you haven't brought any points to the table. How sad and immature. I've no problem with debates, but apart from being a kid you didn't defend your side at all. I gave reasons (kiddish jokes) and facts (multiple reviewers saying it didn't meet expectations). All you gave were a bunch of insults that a kid could learn and throw. Once you cool down from you temper tantrum then we can have a nice formal debate on this. And yes, no matter how much people hate them, IGN are official and recognised reviewers. And even though they may be negative to Nintendo titles, they have proper reasons. Just because they don't give every game a 10/10 doesn't mean they're idiots. They do their job. I also want my favorite Nintendo franchises getting a 10/10, but I don't get butthurt if it doesn't happen. I just build a bridge and get over it.
@Yasaal
"Negative reviews"
Wut?
The game has an 85 Metacritic score, with only 5 out of the 75 reviews scoring below an 8/10.
BTW how well has X-Com sold on consoles??
Strategy games don't seem to be that big on non-PC platforms, but I don't kniw exact numbers.
@Yasaal
There's no such thing as official reviewers though. Anybody can start a website and review games. You can find reviewers whos opinions you trust but all reviews are still just opinions. And that's a fact.
However l have no idea why @R4z0rGr1nd3r is being so over the top about it. Maybe best to ignore him until he gets tired of throwing a temper tantrum.
@electrolite77 True. But only certified reviewers' reviews show up on Metacritic. But I agree with you on that.
As for that guy, I'll leave him alone till he settles down from his temper tantrum, no worries.
@westman98 True. But those particular reviewers who gave it an 8/10 gave a lot of reasons why it wasn't a... Sigh Alrighty then. I won't mull over that. The point everyone said was that it could have been better and that it didn't meet expectations. I don't know about you, but to me that's a negative signal, and so does it happen to most commenters on discussion sites like Reddit. But yeah. You win that one
@Yasaal
If the game had a 95 Metacritic score, I doubt the sales would have change much. Maybe it would have narrowly managed to beat Uncharted Lost Legacy's 2nd week rather than coming narrowly behind due to slightly better word-of-mouth, but that's it.
@westman98 Honestly speaking Uncharted Lost Legacy isn't too great. Due to the changed protagonist people like me aren't favourable of the game. I'd prefer if he returned... Still, just like Crash Bandicoot, the lame games easily get to the top card and Nintendo gets overlooked. I just hope that Fire Emblem maintains it's position in the top 10 and that Odyssey stays at the top.
@Yasaal "Not an interesting game." - opinion
"I'm not surprised it didn't make the top"-neither, yet somewhat opinion
"First off, it's not interesting." - opinion
"Second, it's a spin-off. "- fact
"Both lead to not being on the top. Quite obvious" - opinions
You stated one fact, which frankly has no bearing whatsoever on your point. How is it disappointing btw? Did you play it? Or just going by others' opinions?
Fact : M+RKB has an 85 on MetaCritic.
Opinion : An 85 on MetaCritic is pretty damn good for a spin-off no one initially expected to be well received.
Very impressive result for the game in my opinion.
To be in 2nd against an uncharted thats half the price is respectable isnt it?
No ps4 or xbone games have tempted me for months and months, every game purchase ive made since march have been for my switch , i bet im not the only one.
@onex My opinions are based off of facts XD
But to answer your questions, I've played it. It was disappointing. Mainly because it was too repetitive. I got bored out of it quickly because you had to replay levels again and again despite the fact that if you revisited them, you were OP. Once you beat the game, the replayability factor dies out, unlike most Mario games, which have a lot of replay value, because it you replayed a level in Super Mario 3D World, you'll not be overpowered, meanwhile in Mario + Rabbids, you're OP. This changes the experience for worse.
Or you could be a bit more positive and say it reached slot 2.
@Yasaal No, you're basing your opinions off of opinions, but I digress.
How many SRPGs have you played? Most of them are the same on that regard. You replay maps to grind for EXP, and yes you are usually OP upon returning. This is a typical SRPG trope.
@onex It's common? Cripes. Looks like it isn't the type of game for me after all. I doubt FE Warriors will please me too, but it'll be my first true FE game so I suppose RPGs and I don't mix...
@onex I've played a few RPGs and I have a love-hate relationship with them. Some are good and some are bad.
@Yasaal
Assassin's Creed Origins and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus are releasing on the same day as Mario Odyssey, and both will debut to higher sales than Mario Odyssey at launch in the UK.
The first Wolfenstein and the last AssCreed game (Syndicate) both sold around 100,000 copies at launch in the UK (which was considered a huge underperformance for AssCreed). Origins and Wolfenstein 2 should debut to higher sales than Syndicate and Wolfenstein 1 respectively.
Meanwhile, the fastest selling Mario platformer (Mario Galaxy) sold around 78,000 at launch. Mario Odyssey has a shot at beating that, but I highly doubt launch sales will exceed 100,000 copies.
@westman98 I can see Assassin's Creed posing to be a challenge (though the franchise is lost since Black Flag) but Wolfenstein? I know it's a hyped up game and all, but I don't see it challenging the likes of Odyssey. It's more like the case HZD had when BotW released. It did good, but didn't harm BotW sales at all. Anyway, we'll see when it releases. I predict a top 2 position for Odyssey. FE Warriors will be in the top 10 but not too high.
@Yasaal
Worldwide, Mario Odyssey should comfortably beat Wolfenstein 2 and will probably beat Assassin' Creed Origins in launch sales.
But in the UK, Mario has no shot as beating Assassin's Creed Origins and a slim shot at beating Wolfenstein, and that's assuming Mario Odyssey debuts to the highest sales of any Mario platformer.
@westman98 Agreed. Nintendo has always had problems staying on top in the UK. Only Mario Kart breaks that rule...
@Yasaal
Mario Kart Wii is the only Mario game in history that has sold over 100,000 copies at launch in the UK (~186,000 to be exact).
Pokemon is the only Nintendo franchise that consistently sells more than 100,000 at launch in the UK. Sun/Moon is the fastest selling game in the series, with ~358,000 physical + digital copies sold in its first week.
@westman98 I meant Home console but yeah I stand corrected.
@Yasaal
Well, the Switch is a portable, and Pokémon is coming to the system in 2018/2019.
But other than that, yeah, Nintendo is not that strong in the UK. If a Nintendo game outside of Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, and Pokémon sells well in the UK, it will be because of great legs, not because of great first/second week sales.
@westman98 Agreed
@Yasaal SRPGs aren't the same as traditional RPGs. FE Warriors is a Musou game with an FE skin, so it's not representative of a true SRPG like a mainline FE title. If you've played Hyrule Warriors or any of the Dynasty Warriors games, that's what to expect. Good examples of SRPGs would be any of the FE titles on handheld or Radiant Dawn, X-COM, or Tactics Ogre just to name a few. Mario Rabbids is more akin to these than your Final Fantasies and the like.
@onex Alrighty then.
This game just blew me away!
never expected it to be this good.
beautiful graphics, the game play ia really fun and addictive. The animations are great. I love these kinda games. So Ubisoft, heads of for you guys, thanks for this amazing game.
i encourage everyone to really play it.
@GuruOfGreatness Had to force myself out of my house this weekend. First world isn't very interesting combat-wise - you learn a bunch, etc. The world is really pretty and charming and it pulls you in gently and slowly. By the time I'm half way thru World 3 I'm thinking this is my second favorite on Switch. World 3 is so beautiful and challenging.
@Dang69
I finally popped the game in last night, and, after about 3 hours in total, I have come to realise that I may lose a lot of my life to this game lol. It just reminds me of Worms lol. Truly a great exclusive for the Switch.
