Completely agree. Everything about the N Sane Trilogy was perfect except for the awkward jumping, which was honestly so awkward it ruined the experience for me. A few tweaks could have made all the difference.
By comparison, the Spyro trilogy remake was absolutely perfect.
@stuie1234 I mean, they announced the title to be releasing this year a good while before Mario Kart World was even announced, so they either have to release it around the same time or delay it. And considering how all-encompassing Mario Kart World is going to be, the only way Sega could have released it without Mario Kart canniballizing its sales would be to release it before MK came out, which of course wasn't viable. I think Sega is stuck either way.
The only Shin'en games I've played were the Jett Rocket games back in the Wii days, but I know those folks have always managed to push the power of a console to its absolute limit. Looks like they're keeping that tradition alive here.
Neither have ever interested me, honestly. eShop music is a nice touch, but far from a necessity. And I never understood the appeal of achievements. Empty bragging rights instead of an actual tangible reward for accomplishing something.
What's up with them trying to justify jacking up a game's price based on their proposed value of it by acting like it's always been an industry thing? They never did that before, so why start now? Oh yeah. Greed. That's it.
I feel like I'm the only one who prefers the more basic home screens. Part of what made the WiiU's UI annoying to use was that it was needlessly flashy. I just want to easily access my games upon startup, and the Switch does it perfectly, IMO.
All I can say is about time! Frankly, digital GameCube games should have been available way back in the VC days. This is long overdue, but better late than never, I guess.
I know Toby Fox and crew were working on chapters 3 and 4 simultaneously, but it's still a pleasant surprise that we're getting both chapters at once. At the same time, feels like we've been long overdue. I'm sure they'll be great.
I'm pretty indifferent to Kirby's Air Ride, but it's nice to see Kirby's dad return for a new game. Wasn't the OG Air Ride the last Kirby game Sakurai was involved with? Kind of poetic.
@tanaka2687 The game is absolutely fun besides the tech issues, but I think a 6 is more than fair. The game has annoyingly frequent load times and is constantly crashing to the point where it has significantly affected my enjoyment of the game as a whole. In fact, my most recent crash has rendered the game literally unplayable. Every time I try to boot the game back up, it crashes on loading the save file. The game needs a serious patch, like, NOW. If this is the shape the game is in after several months of delay, I can't imagine how bad it ran BEFORE it was delayed.
@AlexRoivas @tanaka2687 It's not even so much of a screen transition as you have to sit for 20 seconds waiting for another part of THE SAME SCREEN to load.
I have no doubt the biggest announcement will be the Prime 4 release date. Other than that, I honestly have no idea what to expect. Maybe updates on a few previously announced indie games and a few port announcements like the rumored Planet Robobot?
Personally, I'm still holding out hope for a Splatoon 1 port. I know a lot of people don't care since the sequels did everything better, but I don't want its great story mode to languish forever on the WiiU. Just put the whole trilogy on Switch.
Oh, also, come oooooooon, Star Fox Zero with traditional controls.
I'm telling y'all, if you like Donkey Kong Country, don't sleep on this one. Yeah, the game absolutely wears its inspiration on its sleeve, but it does it very, VERY well, IMO. And if you bought the game at launch and dealt with bugs, they pretty much patched all of them. Definitely work a pick up, I think.
@MSaturn Didn't care for Astro Dogs myself. Or any of the Star Fox-inspired games that have come out, really. I think the aforementioned Ex-Zodiac looks like a decent time, but who knows when that one will come out.
A full Legends Z-A reveal--which, let's face it, is an absolute given-- is more than enough to get me excited for the presentation. Anything beyond that is just icing on the cake.
Not sure why everyone is getting so excited about this like it definitively means anything. I see nothing worth getting excited over until we actually see concrete evidence of a new Mega Man game.
As someone whose favorite genre has been platform games since the NES Mario days and who's pretty much been solely a Nintendo gamer since Playstation and Xbox pretty much dropped the genre like a hot potato (and who would love to play Astro Bot but isn't plunking down $350+ for a PS5), seeing a platformer win game of the year warms my heart. MORE PLATFORMERS, GAMING INDUSTRY. THE AUDIENCE HAS SPOKEN
@Dang_69 I can understand the backtracking being a dealbreaker. That was my dealbreaker with the GC original (if you thought chapter 2's backtracking was bad, the later chapters would have driven you insane--some of the worst I've honestly ever seen in a video game). I picked up the remake after hearing the excessive backtracking was alleviated, and now I adore the game.
@Ristar24 Exactly! I wouldn't mind the chao gardens so much if it wasn't required to raise a chao to unlock Green Hill Zone, which was totally bogus for those like me who thought it was dull and uninteresting.
@N8tiveT3ch They were a vastly overrated virtual pet simulator in the Sonic Adventure games that everyone loses their minds about for reasons I can't begin to comprehend. Honestly, I don't know why Sonic Team hasn't brought it back. A Chao Garden mobile game would be a sales juggernaut considering how much everyone has been clamoring to raise the little turds again for the past 2 decades.
Very fair review and I agree on pretty much all points. If you love DKC, it's a more than worthy substitute while we wait for a new game. Honestly, the only thing that bugs me is that, from what I can tell, the hidden gems and keys from completing bonus rooms don't do anything, which is super weird. No lost world, no hidden levels, no anything.
So...I assume you don't have to play the first 2 games to follow the plot of this one? Because releasing the third game in a trilogy that immediately follows the plot of the second when neither that nor the first game are available on Switch seems...questionable.
Loved the one 3DS game we got and was always sad we never got any of the other games in the series outside of Japan. Wish it was translated into English of course, but I'll take playing them untranslated over never playing them at all! Plus, this showcases that Nintendo's stance about the series being "too Japanese" for international audiences no longer stands. I mean, you can't get much more Japanese than not translating it! Hopefully this will a resurgence for the little guy. I've love to see it become a regular series again.
I definitely enjoyed the sequel more than the original. The controls are much tighter and snappier. The only real downside for me is that it feels much shorter than the original game and also has even less of a story (not that the first game had much of one either, but still).
Always been curious about this game. What's the tone? Is it, like, super melancholic? Hopeful? Are there any fun or funny moments? I don't want to play a cat game and feel depressed.
@Logicfire I've been playing the latest 2D Mario, NSMBU Deluxe. It's a fun time, even though it obviously plays it very safe, and considering how much better Wonder looks, will make playing through Wonder that much more enjoyable by comparison.
While I'm not a tremendously huge fan of the in-game art style, it does look pretty fun, and all the actual artwork and character designs are cute as heck. I'll give it a shot!
I'm 8/12 levels through the game, and I'm personally having a blast! No glitches to speak of and the game hasn't been too difficult thus far, very fair. I really hope everyone gives it a chance, because it's really good and worth playing.
How can they not even announce a concrete release date, yet have physical copies in the hands of distributors already? What are they waiting for? So weird.
The only thing that made me leery about this game was the potential difficulty. The developer's last game, Smelter, was so infuriatingly difficult that i actually gave up on it about 3/4 through. If this game continues that tradition, I might have to pass on it...
I don't buy into the thought that the name could really spoil all that much. I mean, even if it is "Duality", it's such a vague word that it could have myriad different meanings in context of the game.
Confirmation that the games are true open world makes me happy. The open world-esque feeling of Arceus coupled with the contemporary towns and cities of typical Pokemon games sounds like a dream to me.
But why are the main characters so derpy-looking? They certainly don't look like Ken Sugimori designs. They just look...bland.
A new Super Mario RPG announcement would excite me more than just about any conceivable video game announcement ever. I mean, in a sense the Mario and Luigi games are spiritual successors, considering they're made by the same people, but still...
I'm glad that WayForward has been able to really work on more passion projects instead of having to put out licensed games or games for series they're not particularly passionate about. They've really grown over the years.
