@Solomon_Rambling I can't believe you missed the most important thing... the yellow circles! It would have been a disaster without them. And, of course... THAT CURVE.
I really like the idea of this, but I would fear for the durability over time. I would also be worried about modules working loose during more frantic play sessions! I can imagine a few parts flying around due to Mario Kart, for example! π
@Yalloo Lovely comment... am wishing you all the best. Peace is such a valuable thing, but so hard to find, guard, and maintain. I hope we can all manage it this year, one day at a time, as you wisely suggest.
@honshu Hey there! Yeah, it's an X. Am loving it so far. I have been surprised to see how many Steam games are incompatible with the Steam Deck... quite a problem. βΉοΈ I am loving the Steam sales! Although I can see that 1TB doesn't last long in PC land! π
I hope that everyone had a great Christmas, full of cheer and joy! I have fully switched over to the ROG Ally now, but am playing two games which will hopefully appear on Switch 2. The first is Visions Of Mana. I am only five hours in, but it has been incredible so far. It is simply beautiful to look at, with a staggering amount of attention to detail. Gameplay wise, it feels close to classic Mana, so we will see if it can keep that up! The second is Returnal, which is fast paced, and flows wonderfully. In terms of structure, it is very close to Isaac, so it feels strangely familiar for me! π I am not very far in, but it is very good so far. Have a great weekend, guys, and take great care of yourselves out there.
@Anti-Matter I doubt if Sony will be too happy with those sales figures, particularly considering that it's for the week before Christmas... and then, also, comparing them with the Switch numbers.
My favourite example of this is in some of the Zelda games, where you can enter a house, pick up some pots, and throw them around, smashing them. People are just fine with this. π
"Playing all these games is gonna take a long time, And I wonder which ones are already mine, Can't buy no more! Wonder if you'll understand, My backlog is out of hand, More than four score!
All I needed was the list you gave, All I needed for another play, And all I ever knew... Olney you."
I think that, in relation to the quality of the actual art, Japan wins, but the Japan cover overall just feels a bit lifeless and drab somehow. The NA/EU cover is bold and engaging, I think, so I went for that one!
I'm really surprised to see Metal Slug Attack Reloaded in that list. I enjoyed it myself. Fun little time waster, as long as you understand what you're signing up for beforehand.
@DartMonkey I can't see Library Of Ruina on the list? Is that because of the "invasion" which took place? βΉοΈ It is one of my GOTY candidates, along with Balatro and Pocket Card Jockey.
The Japanese cover looks a bit messy to me. I like the EU/NA cover. I particularly like how the hunter is looking towards the camera, apparently oblivious to the huge threat directly behind him! π
@nessisonett Maybe just a little bit over the top there, no? No money needed to be paid for the gacha elements, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Somewhat annoying, yes, but not quite as bad as you seem to be suggesting. π
Christopher Lee, of course, deserves a mention when it comes to Dracula, but I still feel that Lugosi had the edge in that role. It's frankly incredible to see his likeness in a modern video game. It would be amazing if they could achieve similar for Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney Jr, for games relating to Frankenstein and The Wolf Man respectively. As long as it is respectful, and carried out in collaboration with living relatives, like this example.
The NA one has to be one of the blandest covers I have ever seen. The Japanese one is a bit more colourful, but the "What is it?" kind of sums both covers up. Then again, it is a pretty tough game to market!
@-wc- I think I can see what you're getting at, but... don't underestimate the power of laziness! π Just imagine having such a gigantic library of games in one place, without having to maintain and charge two systems. It's an alluring thought for me, personally.
@-wc- I guess that it's more convenient if you can play all of your games on one console, rather than having to switch (sic!) between two? Also handy for "forever" games like Isaac, as I could take my 1,000+ hours over to the new device.
@Freek Oh my goodness, that sounds like an awful time. Crikey. βΉοΈ I hope you're holding up okay, all things considered, and I also hope that everything heals fast for you. Please try to take it easy.
Will be continuing with Killer7 and Ys: Memories Of Celceta on the ROG Ally. I have also started Isaac again from scratch, but am also continuing to play it on my Switch, where I have 1000+ hours on it. This is rather confusing, and I sure do miss having Isaac starting with the D6 when playing on the Ally! That will be my next thing to address. π Have a great weekend, guys, and take great care of yourselves out there.
@ChromaticDracula @thor8467 The name is the first thing which drew me to it! "Holy Magic Century" just sounds so mysterious and intriguing. I was quite surprised that they used such a generic name in the States. I did beat it at the time... I remember it being quite hard! Some wailing on my part, I think! π I don't think that it got great reviews at the time, and does not seem to be fondly remembered in general, but I loved the look and feel of it, and really became heavily invested in it. Popolocrois caught my eye at the time, but I never got round to it, sadly. βΉοΈ
@thor8467 @ChromaticDracula Just wanted to join in with the love for Quest 64... although, here in Europe, it was released as "Holy Magic Century"... love that title! I adored the game. It was also pretty refreshing to play a high fantasy game where the main character is called... Brian. π
I have now switched over to the ROG Ally X as my main device, but am continuing to use my Switch for commutes. Am playing Killer7 (sublime) and Isaac on the Ally currently, and have a yearning to play Ys: Memories Of Celceta before Nordics. Apparently, Celceta will not run on the Steam Deck, but should be okay on the Ally, due to Windows. I am playing Isaac and Balatro on the Switch. Which means that I am playing Isaac on two different systems, in wildly different states! I think that I have owned Isaac on six different systems now. Have a great weekend, guys, and take great care of yourselves out there.
@FredBiletnikoff You're right, of course, but I read it as a Chain Chomp joke! Made me smile! π I'm pretty sure that the esteemed Mr. @PJOReilly fully intended that.
@JohnnyMind Thanks mate, that's appreciated. I will try to be thoughtful. And you make an excellent point about "shared" releases, I hadn't considered that. I can still make my posts "relevant" in that way as well. Let's see how it works out.
@Yalloo I think that I will give it a try. And you can give me a nudge if I'm being annoying! π
@Teksetter Aw, thank you! I think it will help that I haven't "turned against" Nintendo at all, far from it, so there won't be any bile or ranting from me. I won't be saying how other platforms are better, because that wouldn't be true. Hell, if I'm going to rant about anything, it will be about how painful navigating Windows 11 can be on a handheld! π As for tempting me back over... I still adore Nintendo. And... if the next main line Pokemon game is a banger, I will definitely be casting covetous glances over the fence! Same if there are remasters or remakes of OOT or Majora. Also... I would defo have both if it was feasible (ROG Ally and "Switch 2"), but it sadly probably wouldn't be in my case. So, yeah, I think it will work out okay.
If you get one character wrong, do you need to enter the whole thing again? I can seldom enter a gift card code without getting it wrong at least twice! π
@Zuljaras Am hearing you on all of that, for sure! But I never play FPS or strategy games (although one should never say never, right?). I do like point and clicks, but they're usually fine with console controls. I think it's going to be a good "fit" for me, but time will tell! Maybe I will miss it with dungeon crawlers, though.
@Zuljaras Hey there! Good question! I deliberated a lot, but went for the Ally (X), as it has better specs, more storage, better battery life, and is a bit friendlier when it comes to using other stores. The track pads were a consideration, seeing as it is a handheld PC! Let's see if I got it wrong! And I should edit my post above to mention it's an X.
As we approach the end of our time with the Switch, I have been considering what to do next. The main reason to stick with Nintendo, of course, is for the first party games, and a lot of them just haven't gelled with me this gen. So, with a somewhat heavy heart, I have decided to go with the Rog Ally X next. I should be picking it up today. One of the saddest things for me is that I wouldn't want to end my time here. I love the community here, and begin and end each day with NL. But, at the same time, it could be annoying for others if I am banging on about PC games a lot of the time! We already have one guy with a PS5 fixation who causes annoyance. π Maybe the Switch will become my Isaac and Balatro machine, as I may not wish to start them again (1,010 hours in Isaac, around 240 in Balatro). Let us see. I have no desire to become a blot on the NL landscape... if I am not one already!
First game on Rog for me? Killer7. π Closely followed by Day Of The Tentacle, and Eye Of The Beholder. See? It's starting already! π
As ever... have a great weekend, guys, and please take great care of yourselves out there.
Ys 8 blew me away, I thought it was incredible. Great story, too. Ys 9 left me cold, for some reason... the city setting was so drab and featureless. I always feel that Ys is at its best in natural settings... Celceta was also lovely. If Adol is back to nature in 10, I would have very high hopes.
