Back in January we reported that a line of customisable, made-to-order Pokémon shirts were launching in Japan. It began with just 20 Pocket Monsters from the original Game Boy games and has now expanded to include all 151 from the Kanto Pokédex.
Sheer jealousy had us considering shipping some in from the east but fortunately we decided to wait; during the 2019 Pokémon Press Conference, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company Mr. Tsunekazu Ishihara announced that those Pokémon Shirts are coming to the US and Europe soon. Lovely!
If you head to the website, you'll see the range of fabrics available to customise your garment. Every part of the shirt can use a different pattern, so you're utterly free to be as classy or garish as you please. See below our own fetching design featuring a Lickitung body, Vileplume cuff and Magikarp pocket:
Being able to subtly show your Pokélove with an understated Bulbasaur inner cuff comes at a price, with the shirts going for around $100 / €90 if you buy from Japan. You'd hope that figure will drop when they launch officially in these new regions, but we'll have to wait and see.
Have you played around on the website and constructed your perfect shirt? Feel free to share your preferred combo below...

How exactly are these "customisable"?
am I reading right??? a single shirt costs 100 bucks??? gzus... I rather buy this uniqlo's nintendo/ street fighter / blizzard collections..
R.I.P. wallet.
R.I.P. wardrobe.
I'll be wearing these everywhere.
Wear this to school and you'll get beaten up.
@Greator : Above is an example of a customised shirt. You can choose a different Pokémon pattern for each part of the shirt, including the collar, pockets, pocket square etc. Personally, I think the customised shirts look pretty ugly.
I spent 100 dollars on a high end Gundam hoodie when I was in Tokyo. But there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that I would spend 100 dollars on a shirt that I cannot try on to be absolutely certain it fits me perfectly, and the material feels both comfortable enough and DURABLE enough that I trust it will last.
The Gundam hoodie I bought at the Gundam Front Tokyo in Odaiba, which is where the life size Gundam store is. It's also in a mall full of high end shopping. The kind of places where men and women in suits help customers individually. The hoodie is the most expensive piece of clothing I own now, aside from my full 3 piece suit.
@rex_rex $100 is only if you import them from Japan, the western pricing has yet to be announced (although they will be high end).
Edit: On reflection I'll be amazed if these are less than $100 in the West, I hadn't appreciated just how customisable they are.
Personally I think the designs are stunning and whilst I would happily own every single one of them I may well treat myself to just one. God knows how I'm going to choose though.
@Ooccoo_Jr I see.. yes, I would love to have some shirts.. build my own design and so on.. but i don't think the prices will be reasonable.. and in these summer/E3 times, all I have to do is save money for what is coming ( mario maker 2, fire emblem and marvel ultimate alliance)
I've learned my lesson with buying overpriced clothing on the internet, either too small or too big. it's always a hassle returning the items back so I just give them away to someone
The Meowth pattern is pretty nice. I would wear it, but not for € 100,-.

I wish there were more formal Wear like this. Video games + formal shirts!
I may get one because it is going to be expensive. But I would love for clothing stores to sell these type of formal Wear (with video games, shows, etc.) I hate wearing t shirts. I feel it is an untapped market.
Most of us kids that grew up playing VG are growing up and having jobs that require suits and formal Wear, so yea.if only I had the smarts and money to do it
100 bucks for a customizable Pokemon shirt? I can get far better deals customizable and official elsewhere if I wanted.
Oh no. I’m going to have to budget hard for this. But my wardrobe for work is gonna be so stealth nerdy! So glad I am a oxford shirt kinda girl.
Will order my first one next week. doing the mewtwo design on collar and cuffs with black fabric.
@Ooccoo_Jr I have a couple of ideas:
Ghost-type themed shirt
and perhaps a Fighting-type one
or even a shirt featuring all of Ash's Pokemon!
So, there really shouldn’t be an issue with incorrect sizing unless you measure yourself incorrectly. When you buy the shirt on the Japanese website it asks you for several measurements, including arm length and neck width etc. Plus the size guides for the main body are all pretty detailed so there should be little surprise with the finished product.
I (finally) received my two shirts last week after ordering in February as the demand was so high. The more casual shirt with Porygon body and Ditto cuffs, neck, pocket and placket fits perfectly. I’ve yet to try the formal dress shirt that is plain white except for an Articuno Placket but seeing as I used the same measurements I don’t see it being an issue. It’s expensive, yeah, but these ARE custom tailored shirts. And they look awesome (as long as you like the design).
I am not a Pokemon fan, I tried playing Lets go Pikachu and ended up trading it for Mario Kart 8 because it bored me to death. Having sayed that, these shirts look cool as hell and I want one.
@SapphireBlaze how is the material durability?
Month ago I pushed it aside since it seems like a Japan exclusive I wouldn’t get a chance to buy.
Now I’m already imagining what style I would wear for work, which is weird for me since I'm not fussy on fashion and I pick whatever business casual clothes I haven’t wear in the past 2 weeks.
@Ryu_Niiyama the feel of the material is just okay. Kind of standard cotton, but the stitching seems to be really well done and overall it seems durable enough. I washed my shirt in the washing machine the other day and it came out looking just as good as when I bought it, so that’s something.
@SapphireBlaze Cool! Thank you for your input. I'll be putting in my first order next week.
