Re: Feature: The Day I Met Donkey Kong On Live TV

Nintendzoey

I almost won a similar competition back in the early 90s. Except the prize for this competition was your height in CDs (instead of video games). I was a tall kid (the tallest out of everyone in my year), so it would have been quite a few CDs.

It was not an easy contest. It had been running for about a month by this stage [because they still had not been able to get a winner]. The contest was also only run twice a day. I had spent weeks trying to get through on the phone. I was so excited when I finally made it through!

Anyway, in this contest you were given the name of a band, group or singer and then had to name 5 of their songs in 10 seconds. I remember that I was given “Eurythmics” and had to name 5 of their songs. I was able to name 4 of their songs - Thorn In My Side, There Must Be An Angel, When Tomorrow Comes, Sweet Dreams... then my mind just went blank. I was so close... and I missed out by ONE song. I was so upset and was kicking myself for YEARS after that. Now almost 3 decades on, I have still never forgotten it. 😫

Re: Feature: 20 Years After The Release Of Banjo-Kazooie, We Speak To The Guys Who Made It

Nintendzoey

The N64 was the second Nintendo home console I ever had (after the NES in the 1980s). I never had a SNES. It was quite a shock playing this game (and Super Mario 64) for the first time after spending so many years playing 8-bit games on the NES. It was almost like I had stumbled into an alternate dimension or something (😆).
Anyway, Banjo-Kazooie has remained one of my favourite games of all time. I must have played it (to 100%) about 10 to 20 times over the years (including on the XBox). ❤️

Re: Feature: 14 Classic Nintendo Winter-Themed Levels to Play This Christmas

Nintendzoey

Freezeezy Peak is and always has been my favourite Christmas level / world of all time. Although I am Australian (where it does not snow at Christmas - which is our summer), I have always loved seeing snowman at Christmas. I love that this world is based around a giant snowman.

I also like the part of “Bully” where Christmas arrives and you have to complete various Christmas related tasks throughout the town. I remember playing it on the Wii quite a few years ago.

Hopefully the new Animal Crossing (that is coming to the Switch) will also include a visit from Jingle. The first Animal Crossing that I ever played was on the DS (Wild World) where Jingle was sadly absent.

Re: Random: UPS Delivery Driver Caught Stealing Nintendo Switch Pro Controller On Video

Nintendzoey

This is a story that I posted here a few years ago..

“Almost a decade ago my (then teenage) cousin had something stolen through the mail. She had been staying at my place for Christmas. It was a video game that she had purchased with her Christmas money. It was expensive (at least for her), since it was a newly released game at the time.
She had accidentally left it at my place (I live in Australia). I phoned her when she arrived home (in New Zealand) to let her know. She asked me if I could please send the game back to her through the post. So I checked the case, making sure that the game was inside of it. I then took it to the post office, got a tracking number for it and sent it to her over in New Zealand.

She phoned me a few days later to let me know that yes, it had arrived in the post. Except that there was no game inside of it. I let her know that I had even checked the game case before sending it off. Somehow the game itself had disappeared through the mail system somewhere between Australia and New Zealand. I went to the post office, they wanted me to fill out a form but was told "there may not be much chance of finding it, since the tracking shows that it actually was delivered". Yes, it was delivered. An empty case was delivered. Well done to you! 🙁”

Re: Review: Crossing Souls (Switch eShop)

Nintendzoey

I only just discovered this game. That is the problem with so many games being released to the eshop now...
Anyway, for me, if it is set in the 1980s then it would be Beta (and not VHS) tapes. My family did not have a VHS player until the 1990s. We always had to hire out Beta tapes back in the 80s. Recently, I was talking to my younger cousin (who was born in 1987) and he claims to have never heard of Beta before. I had to explain to him what Beta was and about the video format wars of the 1980s. My family were rooting for Beta... we all know how that ended. 😢

Re: Review: Carnival Games - Perfect Family Fun And Another Solid Switch Couch-Play Option

Nintendzoey

This game is not good. Not good at all. Go Vacation is a MUCH better choice. I would definitely recommend Go Vacation over this game. A shame as I did not think that the DS version of Carnival Games was too bad (it was actually the reason why I purchased this game). I will know better next time. The highest score I can give this game is a 3 out of 10 - and that is being generous. Go Vacation is the game which far more deserves the score of a 7 out of 10 (though I might possibly award it an 8).

Re: Anniversary: Super Mario Bros. 3 Turns 30 Years Old Today

Nintendzoey

Back in the days when I had to rely on friends [or in this case, a movie - “The Wizard”] to find the secrets hidden in video games [such as the warp whistle inside the first castle].
A friend of mine told me about the whistle in world 1, level 3 (where you have to duck down on the white block and go behind the screen towards the end of the level).
I was able to find the last warp whistle in world 2 by myself (the one where you have to break the rock on the far right of the world map).

I still LOVE the part of “The Wizard” where the “brand-new-game”, Super Mario Bros. 3, is revealed. Hits me right in the childhood every time. Growing up in the 1980s / 1990s was the absolute best. 👍😃

Re: Super Mario Party For Nintendo Switch Won't Support Handheld Mode

Nintendzoey

I guess that is a “no” to this game for me now then. I really only have time to play my Switch when I am on the go (handheld mode). I have never even played the Switch on the TV or tabletop mode before. Not enough hours in the day sadly. Motion controls don’t go over well when there a lot of other people in the vicinity. 😄
I was hoping that the controls would be more like the 3DS version (or at least for that to be an option). Was thinking about picking this up but will most probably have to pass on it now.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Will Be Haunting The Switch Next Year

Nintendzoey

Finally an announcement for a game that I can get excited about! I personally think that 2018 has been a poor year for announcements / releases (too many indies and ports that I am just not interested in). [Although I have not seen the Direct yet, so this is the first that I am hearing about this game]. Anyway, this is some much welcomed news! 👍😃

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Online FAQ - Everything We Know So Far

Nintendzoey

I never play online, so I am only interested in the “free” games (if they are not bringing the VC to the Switch). Although I do love the NES, (it was my second game home console, after the Atari 2600, in the 1980s) I will probably still wait to see what else they may offer after the service launches.

Re: Review: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)

Nintendzoey

I never had the Wii U. I seem to have skipped every second generation of Nintendo home consoles (had the NES, not the SNES, had the N64, not the Gamecube, had the Wii, not the Wii U).. So it is great that this game was given a Switch release. I picked it up the other day and am greatly enjoying it. 😃

Re: New Trademarks Suggest Nintendo Has GameCube On The Brain

Nintendzoey

I seem to always skip a generation of Nintendo consoles. I had the NES back in the 1980s but not the SNES. Then I had the N64 but not the Gamecube. Then the Wii but not the Wii U. Now I have a Switch.. That being said, I would buy any Nintendo Mini that they wish to (or are going to) produce... just as long as I can get my hands on one. 😀

Re: Miitomo, Nintendo's Original Mobile App, Passes Away

Nintendzoey

Two years already? I downloaded it when it was first released (being the Nintendo fan that I always have been) but it did not really interest me. I stopped playing it after about two minutes.
As for the Miis, I actually would miss them if they were to go away. I have been playing Mario Kart 8 (with my Mii) on the Switch a lot recently. I have been using this Mii for quite a number of years (with various different Nintendo titles).

Re: Kimishima Says Nintendo Has Plans For The 3DS In 2019 And Beyond

Nintendzoey

I gave away my 3DS many months ago. The Switch is where I am now. It is my choice when it comes to everything gaming now (either at home or on the move).
I don’t mind if 3DS games continue to be produced (for those people who can not afford a Switch, or those who simply can not let go of the past - like my little sister who still loves her 3DS). Just so long as the games being made for the 3DS do not make (or have) an impact on the games (or quality of the games) that are made for the Switch. I want to see Nintendo’s full attention given to new Switch games.

Re: Alex Kidd And Gain Ground Join Sega's AGES Line-Up On Switch, Saturn And Dreamcast Games Coming

Nintendzoey

Poor Alex Kidd. I still remember the pre-Sonic days. I had the NES back then but my friend had the Sega with the built-in Alex Kidd in Miracle World game. We used to always say to each other “Mario seems to be Nintendo’s mascot, so Alex Kidd is probably Sega’s mascot”. Then Sonic came along and the world slowly seemed to forget about Alex Kidd.. Shame on you Sonic! 😡😄

Re: Sega Reveals Shenmue 1 & 2 Remaster, But It's Skipping Switch

Nintendzoey

I played Shenmue II on the XBox back in the day (and loved it). I definitely would like to have a handheld version.

Personally, I think the future is not looking very bright at this stage (I am yet to see anything that I am [even remotely] interested in that is coming to the Switch). I think the announcements have been pretty poor so far this year.

2017 was too BIG of a year for the Switch.. with BOTW and Odyssey both coming out in the same year. Of course I am not expecting a repeat of 2017 but now 2018 just seems minuscule in comparison. As games that I WOULD definitely buy - like the Disney Afternoon Collection (I had some of them on the NES back in the day and would have loved to play them again), Spyro and now Shenmue are all (at this stage?) just skipping the Switch.. All games that I love. 😔

I really am hoping that there is ace or two up the sleeve for the Switch to be announced soon (just a reveal of something / anything that I can look forward to).. 🤞

Re: Yoshi For Nintendo Switch Could Be Heading To Switch In Time For The Summer

Nintendzoey

This is one game that I am looking forward to playing. I love Yoshi (although I have never played any of the “Wooly World” games, as I gave away my 3DS [to a relative of mine] ages ago and never had the Wii U). I used to play “Yoshi’s Story” on the N64 (back in the day) all the time though. This is actually one of the FEW games that has my attention at the moment. Nintendo has not really announced any other games that I have seen or that have caught my attention at the moment (except for maybe Kirby). Hope there are some announcements that I like the look of in the not too distant future.

Re: Feature: Here's What Was Announced During The January 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini

Nintendzoey

Nothing really of note. I was probably expecting too much from a simple Mini Direct, especially after their winner year of 2017.

I already knew that a new Kirby game was coming.

I find those DKC games too hard for normal or inexperienced players, some of the levels are excruciating. After that DKC game on the 3DS I vowed never to play another one. Too hard for people like me.

Tennis might be ok I guess. I much prefer it to their Mario Golf (I hated the 3DS version, those controls and physics [for me personally] were way too hard to try and master or get control of).

Not that much into battle or RPG games either, so that may rule out some of those games such as “Hyrule Warriors”. I do love Zelda games but that is mainly because of the exploration / puzzle solving involved.

As for the DLC for Odyssey? Just does not sound that appealing. Although free costumes (actually anything FREE) is always welcome!

So hearing this story just made me sick. It sounds like outright theft to me. Especially since the package still had the address. Did the seller also include a receipt I wonder? Some sellers that I have purchased from on eBay also include a receipt (my name / what the item(s) is etc.) inside the box. That is always a good idea. 👍

Re: Review: Disney Magical World 2 (3DS)

Nintendzoey

It seems like I have been waiting forever for this game to be released. I am so glad that it is finally here! I purchased it as soon as it became available. This will be a game that I will be playing for the next year or so (or at least for the next few months) . I have been playing it for a few hours already and am enjoying it immensely. I played the original game and enjoyed it very much but this second game is just as good (or possibly even better). I would very HIGHLY recommend it to all Disney lovers. You are actually doing yourself a disservice if you are a Disney fan, have a 3DS but do not purchase this game. 😃

There is a huge amount of gameplay involved within the game - battling monsters, running your own cafe, decorating your house, visiting many different Disney characters, living a life at your own pace within the Disney universe. This game also caters to both boys and girls. You can be either a male or female character and there are clothing options which cater for everyone. This game is definitely not just for females only - anyone and everyone can play it. 👍

Re: LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Feature Exclusive Backstory Content

Nintendzoey

Stars Wars this, Star Wars that.. I just can never seem to escape from it. I have never been a fan of Star Wars. It is fine for people who are (and I am not going to say anything bad about the series, so don't worry because everyone is entitled to their own opinion). I see and hear about it nearly everywhere, constantly. I have friends who can never stop talking about it, Disneyland is opening Star Wars Land in the future, I get e-mails about Star Wars, I see commercials on TV for Star Wars, I come on this site and see Star Wars. I try to just avoid it but am still constantly bombarded with it nevertheless. I am not saying that people should stop talking about it simply because I do not care for it, just that I wish that it was not everywhere that I look. I wish that I did actually like it because that would be so much easier. For if it is a crime to not like Star Wars, then I do apologise..

Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo Can Be a Tipping Point in Nintendo's Approach To User Accounts

Nintendzoey

Can we just have Club Nintendo back, please? I would much prefer to spend my points on physical items (such as those cool dioramas, soundtracks, t-shirts, coins etc.). I know there was not always a lot available when Club Nintendo was around but that made it all the more special when something awesome did arrive on the store. I can't see myself get even half as excited over purely digital rewards.

Re: Bayonetta Confirmed as New Challenger in Super Smash Bros.

Nintendzoey

@DekuOnion The history of Banjo Kazooie always makes me sad. One of my very favourite memories of Nintendo was playing the two games (Kazooie / Tooie) on the N64. I actually played the first game (Kazooie) to 100% about 10 times . I really do miss them being on a Nintendo console. I am positive that Nintendo would have looked after the franchise. I will definitely play Yooka Laylee at some point!

Re: Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash Could Possibly be the Last Game in the Franchise

Nintendzoey

To be honest, I am actually much more disappointed by the look of this new upcoming game. Having played other games in the series including "Park Patrol" on the 3DS (and loving them), I was excited when I heard that a new Chibi Robo game was in the works. When I saw the trailer, my disappointment began to set in. This was not the kind of game that I had been hoping for. This was nothing like the other games in the series. I don't know if I will even bother to pick this up. All I want is the Chibi Robo series that I know and love to come back.

Re: First Impressions: Getting Cosy With Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer

Nintendzoey

One of my favourite things about Animal Crossing has always been the real world time clock and the associated seasonal events (Christmas, Halloween, Birthday etc.). It is always fun to visit your villagers and have them share in those special days with you. With the clock missing from this game, I think that may also mean that the seasonal events will not be there either.
