Still fully addicted to Dragon Quest Builders 2. Put a ton of time into the campaign and enjoyed it (though a bit long winded in the end). Now I've turned my attention to the Isle of Awakening and the ideas/possibilities are endless!
DS games are everywhere in Japan. Aside from a few big stores like Yodabashi Camera that only stock current gen stuff, most stores I went into had plenty of DS games. Lots of sealed ones for like pretty cheap, too!
I absolutely love this game. I finished the campaign and now I'm turning my attention to building my island. I'm so thrilled to see this title has grown in popularity. Gives me hope that Square Enix will consider a Dragon Quest Builders 3 in the future.
I'm gonna look at it differently. At least there is some variety in what games are successful. It's healthy for the industry when different games lead the charts in different regions. If I could choose two games for Switch, I wouldn't choose those two lol.
Anybody else find those Japanese sales figures very underwhelming? When I think of Fire Emblem, I used to think of it as a big IP in Japan. The game has been out almost two weeks and it's not even at 200k yet? I'm surprised Mario Maker 2 isn't even at 500k. Hard to believe games like Fire Emblem now relay on the West for sales and survival. Interesting trends.
1.) It's an awesome game! I bought it digitally on the Wii U a few years ago. Purchases are tied to a machine though. If my Wii U dies I think I lose that game. I may try to find this physically for Wii U.
2.) The digital only future terrifies me. Capcom is literally saying "we're done with this game". Once it goes...it goes. This is why I buy physically as much as I can.
3.) I worry about the vibrant Indie scene down the road. Not all of those studios will survive and their games will disappear. I've started to buy a few of the big titles physically (Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Celeste) so I can have them in a decade.
@Mr_Persona That's not the point though. It's not "making a new system", it's releasing an updated version with improvements. I don't think the Switch is suddenly going to see a big boost in sales because of this. It's more of Nintendo trying to improve things.
I have the Dragon Quest XI Switch pre-ordered from Japan. I'm so glad that will be one of the updated versions with the improvements to the battery life. Getting a limited edition system that's also an upgrade over my launch edition feels win-win. Gonna keep my original as a back up.
@Tantani I was in Akihabara, Tokyo last week and I saw displays for this in quite a few stores. Baseball is huge in Japan and many big stores like Yodabashi Camera were pumping it hard. As a westerner, it's hard to believe the Vita still has new releases and is still selling lol.
I tried it out because I didn't have the Nintendo Online subscription. I paid $30 CAD for online then bought the two vouchers which cost about $155 CAD. Two retail games in Canada are usually about $190 so in the end, I paid full retail for the games and got online for free. That works for me. I ended up choosing MM2 and DQB2 because of their replay ability. With that being said....I wont do it again. I prefer physical and now I wish I had physical copies of those two excellent games.
I just got back from Japan. I booked my tickets before I knew the launch of this game so I actually left on Thursday the 25th. It would have been cool to be in Japan during the launch of a big title to see what the reaction was like or to see the physical goodies you get when you buy the game. As I was leaving, Yodabashi Camera was putting out big stands for Fire Emblem.
I didn't play my first FE game until Awakening on the 3DS but I'm now a growing fan of the series. I'm really interested in playing this game but I fear it'll be on the backlog for a while until I'm ready for a massive game. I'm just so deep into Dragon Quest Builders 2 that I'm not really playing anything else. I have the collector's edition coming from Amazon.
@JereJK I think ports and original games are vastly different in my opinion. Skyward Sword, Windwaker and TP are all ports to Wii U and not originally made for it. The original TP was made for GC and then ported to Wii. BoTW was the one new game released for the WII U. Anyway, read my comment directly above. Ports don't count in my books.
@Supaguy There are lots of examples where Nintendo works on one entry of a franchise per console. Super 64 and Mario Sunshine were the only big Mario 3D games for those consoles. Technically BOTW was for Wii U originally and the other games are ports not originals so again just one developed for it. Multiplayer games like the sports titles, Forza, Call of Duty and others come out regularly on one console, why does Nintendo limit theres? Donkey Kong usually gets one game per console and for Switch it's just a port so far! Usually one sports entry like Mario Golf, Mario Tennis etc. Nintendo often gives us "1" of a game per console with a few exceptions here and there. I really hope Splatoon 3 doesn't have to wait until the next console.
End of an era. Splatoon on the Wii U was probably the best new IP I had played since my early days or World of Warcraft. When Splatoon 2 was announced for Switch I saved up cash to buy one then. Picked up BOTW and MK8D at the same time. Those three games lasted me so long! I'm curious what will happen to the Splatoon casual fan community. Diehards will play but I know lots of friends who would only come back for the Splatfests and play for a few days at a time. I really hope the community stays robust.
With the updates, DLC, and Splatfests now finished, I'm guessing the full development team moves onto Splatoon 3. I could see that coming out in 2021 in the mid-life of the Switch.
Not surprised to see this happen. It's an issue they have not been able to fix for nearly two years. They rarely even acknowledge it.
My first pair of Joycons from launch had that problem. Well the left Joycon had that problem. Joycons purchased over the past year haven't been a problem yet. With that being said, I began playing docked mostly because of this issue. This is 100% on Nintendo to fix. For a company obsessed with quality control, this one will haunt them.
That looks fantastic. I normally don't like steelbooks but the Switch is getting some really great ones and I have started to collect them from various regions. They are a bit pricey but I love the look of them.
@Ryu_Niiyama I got it from a website called nin-nin games. I paid $475 shipped. I ordered about a month ago so Im not sure if they have stock left. Im pumped to get that system.
Splatoon 3 will definitely come to Switch. I think Nintendo wants to buck the trend of one entry per console. Zelda is getting a second one and I bet this does, too. Loved SP2, a really fun game. I just don't play much anymore because a billion other games have come out for the Switch. Team Order!
I wonder if they will release the opposite patterns in other regions so people can get a set. Similar to Splatoon 2 where PAL and NA had right green joycons and Japan/Asia had left ones. I'll likely pick up one set lol.
It would have been nice to have it out a bit earlier than that. Pokemon is just around the corner and I hope this game doesn't suffer because of proximity. I was hoping it would come out early October to get a full month of sales before the juggernaut arrives. Hopefully they market this game well.
I really hope my Dragon Quest XI Roto Edition console has this new and improved battery. It's releasing at the end of September so in theory it should have it. I certainly hope so....
Dragon Quest Builders 2 is my summer game! Can't wait to start playing that in a few hours. Also downloaded Dr. Mario for quick little sessions here and there.
@Reignmaker The name doesn't match but if they didn't call it a Switch, I think you'd have a lot of customers wondering what games to buy for it. Kinda like the Wii U problem.
@redd214 My son is 5 and he is just getting a handle on the Switch by using the pro controller. He is very interested in playing more games. I'm tempted to grab one for him so he can have that to play with. I don't like sharing hehe.
I fully expect production of the New 3DSXL systems to end soon. This is the price point for that system and the Switch Lite is fulfilling the same function from a technical perspective - a purely handheld device at a cheaper point. If anything the New 2DSXL may hang around a bit longer at $150 but dunno...probably gonna be gone soon. Stores wont like this many SKUs.
@DABYX I don't want to be negative but I'll just ask...I wonder why NOA doesn't see these as viable for their region? My gut tells me they feel they don't need goodies to get sales. NOE may feel like they need to do it. I dunno.
Looks cool, though. I may grab one of those steel books on eBay after they launch.
As a collector, I'll probably pick one up down the road but it wont be a launch thing for me. I'll wait for a limited edition or a cool bundle of sorts. I know myself....I'll end up with one lol.
I'm not a big fan of the colours and I highly doubt Nintendo wants a lot of different SKUs on shelves. These could be the only variations which would suck. If I had to choose, maybe the yellow? I dunno....I'm gonna wait and see what happens with Pokemon. Doesn't this seem the like perfect system to bundle with Pokemon for kids at Xmas? Like $250 for the system and the game.
@nintendolie From what I recall, Nintendo said "we have nothing to announce" instead of them saying there was nothing being created. In fact, the CEO has repeatedly said they are always looking at hardware. It's ok if the product is not for you but I don't think it's appropriate to create a fake narrative that suggest something sinister. Then again...I suppose your name should have been a hint....
I want this physically for my collection so I'll have to wait for 2020. I already bought it on my Xbox ages ago so I have that version to play. It's incredibly hard and gives me NES vibes of rage quitting as a kid haha.
Or you could get the PS4 version which is running beautifully like it was intended. I love the Switch but portability alone can't be a reason why I decide to buy something. With all the bugs, patches etc ....I guarantee this game will be on sale in like two months. It'll be $29.99 or lower by September so I'm just gonna wait. I would like to play it, but I'm not paying full price for a flawed game. Gotta speak my mind with my wallet. Plus....I wanted it for PS4 anyway lol.
I pre-ordered the DQXI console from Japan. It's just so gorgeous I couldn't resist replacing my launch console. I'm pumped but it's expensive. May have to wait on another game for Xmas or something.
No release date for this game was a tad concerning in the E3 direct. They must have been confident enough for 2019 but surely it takes a while to get the game on cart and shipped to stores. Late October release?
