Re: Anniversary: Happy Birthday To Nintendo's Ugliest, Most Indestructible Console

NintendoDad

IMHO hardly ugly. LOL.

I picked one up for $60 about 5 years ago.

Not as convenient as one of our folding DS consoles. But small enough that I take it with me when I travel. And there are a bunch of 3DS games that I wanted to play.

I just finished up Metroid Samus Returns a few months back.

I am currently playing through OOT on our 2DS right now.

And I have MM ready and waiting for when I finally finish OOT.

LOL.

Happy Birthday 2DS!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 2nd)

NintendoDad

Still working away at Zelda OOT on our 2DS that I restarted last week.

I've made it to the magic beans . . . which is the farthest I've been in the game for all the times I've played this game over the years! LOL.

Also, this week is back-to-school week (Canada), so with my kids going back to school . . . and all the homework they'll be doing . . . maybe I can actually get my hands on our Switch again to try to finish off Super Mario Odyssey! LOL.

Happy gaming everyone!

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Surpassed The Wii's Lifetime Sales In The US

NintendoDad

There's a Marketing expression . . .

"If you don't get the product (or advertisement), you're not the target." (Meaning Target Market.)

Put another way . . . if you don't like the Switch, it's OK. It's not meant for you.

But, apparently (as this article reports), there are a lot of people in the Target Market that like the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 26th)

NintendoDad

I haven't played our Switch in a month. I can't get my hands on it. My kids are playing Splatoon 2 all the time. LOL.

So I've been playing our 2DS.

I finished Metroid Samus Returns last month.

This week I decided to try to finally finish The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for 3DS. According to the save file I haven't touched this game in over 2 years.

If I finish this, I've got Majora's Mask for 3DS waiting for me.

And I've got Metroid 2 The Return of Samus downloaded on my 2DS as well. But I want to print out a map to have beside me while I attempt to finish TRoS.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 15th)

NintendoDad

'just finished up Samus Returns on our 2DS.

At some point in time I'm planning to pick-up Dread. Just haven't made it to the stores lately.

In the meantime . . . planning to start the special worlds in Super Mario 3D Land. And trying to finish off some Switch games we started, but haven't finished yet.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land — We are on World 7 boss.
Yoshi's Crafted World
Super Mario Odyssey
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker

Re: Poll: What Course Are You Most Excited About In The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 5 DLC?

NintendoDad

I voted for Squeaky. Always glad to see a new track.

But . . . I didn't play Tour much . . . so any track from there is going to be basically new for me.

I think my family will get a kick out of the Los Angeles map as we took a trip to California. I haven't played that track . . . but is that the Santa Monica Pier in the background there?

But overall . . . excited and glad to be getting more tracks!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 8th)

NintendoDad

I'm working on Metroid Samus Returns (3DS). I'm 94% complete. Got all the upgrades. Just trying to get off the planet. ugh . . . LOL.

I also want to play a bit more of Kirby and the Forgotten Land with my daughter. We are about to do the boss level on World 7.

But I enjoyed Samus Returns so much I want to try out the Metroid Dread demo. If I like it, that's my next game. And I'm thinking of starting Super Metroid on NSO.

Re: Microsoft CEO Says He Would "Love To Get Rid Of" Exclusives On Consoles

NintendoDad

I agree with the idea (that some are saying) that exclusives is not a game-console-only thing. It is everywhere you look.

If I want to watch a Netflix show, I need to have Netflix. If I want to watch an Apple show, I need to have Apple.

If your exclusive is strong enough and people want it enough, then everyone is happy.

But having said that . . . I am so glad that Minecraft is available on Switch!

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Lands Free Switch Demo, Out Today

NintendoDad

I really enjoyed the 1st game. I finished all the levels and fields. (I was complete addicted to it. LOL.)

I've been holding off buying the 2nd game because I have too much work and chores to do lately. If I get the 2nd game, that's pretty much all I'd be doing for the next little while. LOL.

But I couldn't resist the demo.

And after playing a couple of playfields I know I'm going to enjoy the 2nd game just as much as the 1st.

Re: It's Official, Total Switch Sales Have Now Surpassed The Game Boy And PS4

NintendoDad

Congrats to Nintendo for bringing out a(n) (obviously) compelling console. (The numbers speak for themselves.)

Congrats (and Thank-You) to all the developers for bringing so many great games to the platform! (Much appreciated, having been a Wii U owner. LOL.)

And Thank-You to the media (Like NintendoLife) for keeping us all up-to-date on the latest and greatest! And making it easy to find out about new games we might want to play and how to set-up our Switch consoles!

Re: Random: You Can Use Your Switch Joy-Cons As A Replacement Wii Sensor Bar

NintendoDad

@MH4

RE: Fangamer's Flip Grip

+1

Ok. You mentioning it just got me wanting it again. LOL.

Yes. I remember that when it came out. That is what got me thinking about DS / 3DS games on Switch. LOL.

I could totally see myself using that for Galaga in Namco Museum Arcade Pac in hand-held mode.

I just tested the settings to get a bigger screen. Turn 90 degrees. Turn background off. Zoom 1.29 times.

Re: Random: You Can Use Your Switch Joy-Cons As A Replacement Wii Sensor Bar

NintendoDad

@Giancarlothomaz

RE: Dual Screen of 3DS games. I thought about that. I was thinking that Nintendo could make a TATE adapter for the Nintendo Switch. It would hold the Switch in TATE mode and then you attach the Joncons on each side of that. Then the bottom half of the Switch screen (in vertical mode) becomes the touch screen of the 3DS. And the top half is the top display of the 3DS. If they did this, they could bring DS and 3DS games to Switch.

As for the Wii Sensor Bar . . . a simple solution is to get a Wireless Wii Sensor bar. Like this . . .

https://www.amazon.com/Aokin-Wireless-Infrared-Nintendo-Replacement/dp/B08F3SPPW5/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Wireless+Wii+Bar&qid=1675176368&sr=8-3

The wire on the OEM Wii Sensor Bar only provides power. No data.

So the wireless bar uses AAA batteries.

I got one of these and it works great. The big downside is that you need to remember to turn it off when you're done gaming. If not, you got dead batteries the next time you want to play.

Re: New 'Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe' Website Shows Off More Screenshots & Video

NintendoDad

Back in the Wii days we did not have this game. But my daughter finished it with one of her friends at their house.

Early last year I tracked down a copy of KRTDL for Wii, figuring we could play it after we finished Kirby Star Allies.

But then we got side tracked with Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Yoshi's Crafted World.

And then when Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe got announced . . . my daughter got intrigued. I am thinking this is definitely making it to our shelves.

Now . . . when are they going to announce Kirby's Epic Yarn Deluxe? We had that game in the Wii days and it was one of the 1st games we finished together. It's been so long that I'm sure we've forgotten more about that game than what we remember. LOL. But remembering how much fun we had with that game, I think that that game would really hold up well today.

Re: Kirby Gains New Copy Abilities For Return To Dreamland Deluxe

NintendoDad

I think this one is going to end up on our shelves! LOL.

Even though I ended up picking up the Wii version last year.

As soon as my daughter heard that a Deluxe version was coming out for Switch she got intrigued. LOL.

We finished Kirby Star Allies. But still working through Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Re: Poll: What’s Your Favourite New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Track In Wave 3?

NintendoDad

@McGloomy

RE: It's about time they add some more Double Dash tracks, too.

I'd agree with that.

Some of the best Double Dash courses have already been brought back through Wii or Wii U versions.

But there are still quite a few great courses still trapped on the Game Cube.

But . . . if they bring back Mushroom City, I'd totally want them to make it so that the track changes with each lap. And each race is different, so that it completely changes the route through the track from lap to lap and race to race. LOL. And it directs you to drive backwards through the course every now-and-then. LOL. Sort of like having a Rally Race through the city. The driver has to be told where to turn in order to get through the course.

Re: Poll: What’s Your Favourite New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Track In Wave 3?

NintendoDad

I voted Tour London Loop because I enjoyed driving through the streets. And its was something different for me, since I've played MK on GC, Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS for a while now.

(But, keep the old tracks coming. It's nice to re-explore these tracks with the MK8D mechanics. And it makes me miss playing MK on the old machines less. LOL.)

But . . . I did enjoy DS Peach Gardens. It was nice to have the MK8D mechanics driving through Peach Gardens vs. the DS mechanics. And the switch at the end was fun! Threw me and my daughter off! LOL.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 10th)

NintendoDad

Just played the new tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

It's nice to see new tracks coming to MK8D. It completely refreshes the game.

And nice to see some old familiar tracks, with twists (like all of a sudden going backwards through the course! LOL.) My daughter and I I were racing on a course we thought we knew and all of a sudden both of us are saying . . . WTH! LOL!

Re: Video: Nintendo Land Will Likely Never Come To Switch, But That's Okay

NintendoDad

This is the only game that we have on the Wii U that my kids still want to play. It is the reason that I have been trying to keep our Wii U going. But our Gamepad isn't staying connected to our base unit anymore.

If Nintendo brought out Nintendo Land 2 for Switch I'd buy it. Especially since our Wii U isn't working anymore.

They could add different games that are played on a single screen. And a bunch of the original games, like Donkey Kong's Crash Course.

And they could make the asynchronous games "additional / extra" games. But to play those games you need a second Switch.

We only have one Switch. But to play a game like Nintendo Land 2 (especially if it brought back Animal Crossing: Sweet Day, Battle Quest, Luigi's Ghost Mansion, Mario Chase, Metroid Blast, and Pikmin Adventure), I'd be game for a second Switch.

EDIT: It would be like how Pacman Vs has that separate app for Pacman.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Highlight Of Your Game Collection?

NintendoDad

I don't have many "keepers" or "rares". But I happened to find a copy of Kirby's Dream Collection (Wii) at a thrift shop for $15 (or so, 'can't remember). [I think the guy at the counter knew what it was, because he was "having trouble finding the disc" in the books of discs that the thrift shop had. I had to make the guy go through every single book of discs to find the disc. LOL.]

But, I think the games that I value the most are our "upside down games."

When me and my kids finished a game (not 100% completionist, but just to the end credits), I would put the game back on the shelf upside down to note that we finished the game.

Will we play the game again? Most we have not. But I don't want to let them go. LOL. They are a reminder of the games we played and the fun we had. LOL.

Re: Talking Point: If Breath Of The Wild 2 Launched Alongside New Switch Hardware, Would You Upgrade?

NintendoDad

I wouldn't upgrade just for 1 (or a few) games.

I would wait a bit and see how many new games only played on the new console.

But more so for me, I would want backwards compatibility.

If the next gen console ended up having backwards compatibility to the OG Switch, then I would strongly consider it.

A way to get a 2nd Switch in the house, and to play the many games we've bought for the Switch.

Re: Feature: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

NintendoDad

@Mikmoomamimocki

+1. I really liked the games on Game Cube and Wii U. Lots of great memories.

I really liked the ability to play Mario Kart 8 on the gamepad of the Wii U.

But now the Switch has taken all the good stuff (including many of the games) from the old systems, along with letting you play both on-screen as well as handheld . . . it makes it hard not to pick the Switch. Even though it feels like a cop-out answer LOL.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 9th)

NintendoDad

Still chugging away at Link's Awakening on our 2DS.

But I know I've already got to play it again when I finish, because I messed up. (I can't get the 6th Secret Seashell. I'm following a walkthrough LOL.)

On my 2nd pass through the game (as I go for the 6th Secret Seashell), I'm thinking I'll pick up the Switch version to enjoy the new graphics and see what else has changed from the DX version.

Re: Best Remakes And Remasters On Nintendo Switch

NintendoDad

RE: Ports vs Remasters . . . I think it is a case of six of one and a half dozen of the other. But the best is to have both, 'cuz then you get the full dozen.

I've downloaded Link's Awaken on my 2DS. (The DX version for the Game Boy.)

I think it's great that I can do that. 'cause even if I went and bought the cartridge, I don't have my Game Boy anymore. (Given to my nephew years ago.)

There is something cool about seeing those old-school graphics, and really admiring how well they were done and how such little amount of pixels could pull you into the world of Zelda so well.

And then on the other hand, I look at Link's Awakening for the Switch and think, OMG the graphics are amazing! This is a great way to explore this story.

If these new graphics makes the game more approachable to contemporary gamers, then I think . . . more people get to enjoy this story.

Re: Bandai Namco Has Officially Launched Its New Logo

NintendoDad

Personally I like it.

I also think . . . what a logo means to us can be based off of what the company (and it's people) do.

If Bandai Namco do more good than bad, then we transfer that feeling to the logo. If we feel they make good games, then that logo represents good games.

Re: Feature: 10 3DS Retail Games That Might Be Cheaper To Buy Digitally While You Can

NintendoDad

IMHO should also take a look at the virtual games as well.

Link's Awakening (DX) can be had for a song (a lot cheaper than getting the Switch version), along with the Zelda Oracle games. I just picked those up before they disappear.

As for cartridges, I already stocked up a couple of years back, when I first got our used 2DS. I got OoT and MM so that I could finish those games. And then Nintendo goes and brings those games to NSO! LOL. But, still worth it for me. I can play those games while my daughter uses the Switch.

I will probably also pick up the Game Boy version of Metroid II before the eShop shutsdown.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is Apparently Japan's "Biggest" Kirby Launch Ever

NintendoDad

Great game! We ended up picking this one up sooner than later.

We've finished Kirby's Epic Yarn, Star Allies . . . and my daughter finished Return to Dreamland with one of her friends.

We were ready for another co-op Kirby game.

The demo made it easy for us to try out the game and decide that this game was good to go!

3D definitely brings another dimension to Kirby (LOL), and brings it into the land of Super Mario 3D World.

Re: Talking Point: 3DS Is 11 Years Old, And Our Eyes Still Feel Strange

NintendoDad

I was late to the party. Actually bought an old 2DS after we got our Switch so I could catch up and play OoT and MM.

Our local EB Games had a sale and was selling off the 2DS for $60. I had a $50 gift card so I was only out-of-pocket $10 and change.

I got a bunch of cartridges for it, including Super Mario 3D Land, OoT, MM, Super Mario 64 DS, etc.

And then Nintendo went and brought a bunch of those games to the Switch! LOL!

But the 2DS comes in handy when my daughter is using our Switch for Animal Crossing.

I also, downloaded Link's Awakening from the eShop, so working through that now on the 2DS. Also got the both Oracle games downloaded for later.

Re: Feature: Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Is The Best Mario Kart, Right? Let's Find Out

NintendoDad

My kids are 7 years apart. While we had the Wii version of Mario Kart, we would often play Double Dash instead so that my youngest (who couldn't drive the kart yet) could be in back throwing items. It was a great way that we could all play together as a family even with the great age difference in our kids.

Of course, the fun part was when everyone complained I played too well. So what we did was that my daughter (who was in my kart) was actually part of the other team. And she would throw the items in front of us, trying to make me crash. Or . . . would do a bump to try to make me fall off a bridge. LOL.

Eventually we would have us parents driving, and our co-pilots were both trying to make their drivers crash. LOL.

Lots of ways to have fun with 2 drivers in 1 kart.

Baby Park is one of my favourite courses. But my absolute favourite track on Double Dash is Yoshi Circuit. It is a very driver-oriented course. Very technical. And the crazy short cut through the waterfall is really fun when your opponent doesn't know about it. There is also a goofy part where you fly off the cliff into a tunnel down below. Not sure why that is there. I think (if I remember correctly) I actually made that jump once. It was just one of those, hey, let's see if I can do it sort of thing.

Also . . . on Mushroom Bridge . . . I used to try to make it over the bridge along the top of the supports. Not on the road. LOL.

If Nintendo brought Double Dash out for Switch, I'd get it. Even though we still have our copy of Double Dash and we can play it on our GameCube or Wii. Being able to play Double Dash with wireless controllers would be nice.
