Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 10th)

Continuing on with Alliance Alive Remastered, reached the point where all the party members converged and I also gained a ship to move around in the overworld in meaning the game opened up in a pretty big way both in terms of party customization and exploration. Have been enjoying the game quite a bit so far in spite of the awful soundtrack.

Some Overwatch 2 on the side also, it continues to be fun to play with a friend. Maybe try to pick up Doomfist now that they buffed him and he's not terrible anymore.

Tunic! Probably my game of the year so far but the only other games released this year I have actually played are Kirby, Elechead and Neon White (all great!).

After watching new footage of the Super Mario bros. movie, I have planned playing Super Mario All Stars and its 3D version on Switch. Its gonna be a Super Mario weekend for me.

Persona 5r switch and chained echoes, two great games for a happy weekend.

Luigi's Mansion 2 for the 3DS. I am at the end of the fourth area now and really enjoying the game. Luigi is very likeable.

I only have about a day or so to be able to play anything, and most of my game time will be spent playing Genshin Impact. I want to get through the next chapter of the Archon Questline, get through the first few stages of the latest event, and also try out the Genius Invokation TCG game that was recently released as a permanent feature in the latest update.

Maybe, if I have time, I'll play Minecraft Java Edition, and continue building my house on the Vox Populi server (the one that famous YouTuber Markiplier made famous in his Drunk Minecraft series).

My house in the game is a giant skyscraper made entirely out of glass block that goes up to the maximum build height. It also doubles as my farm, with each floor dedicated to a single crop or animal (wheat on one floor, potatoes on another, cows on one floor, chickens on another, etc.).

And since the server has a jobs plugin, I can make money as a farmer, and then trade in my crops and meat products for what they call Export Vouchers, which can give me other resources like diamonds, gold, and other server-exclusive goodies.

I haven't played much Street Fighter 5 since season 2 started, so I finally got the upgrade and season 5 pass to unlock everyone and I'm relearning that in anticipation for SF6. Also, I've been playing a bit of Chained Echoes but I might finally try to finish God of War 2018 or Marvel's Spider-Man. I always bounce off those two games because of their combat systems not clicking with me.

In my current rotation are games like Witcher, Axiom Verge, Bastion and Rayman Legends. But non of them will be played because of Splatoon 3, which I play almost exclusively since release and has Big Run this weekend. The only other game will be River City Girls, because it's time limited for Online members and also amazing 😉

I am planning on playing through the Bayonetta trilogy for the first time. Currently on 2, and it’s so much better to play than 1. Everything seems to click this time, after slogging through to the end on 1. Makes me excited for 3, which is ready and downloaded. Oh, and I’m replaying Odyssey after 5 years. I forgot how joyful it is to play!

I finished P5R last night (fantastic game) and honestly seeing this article forced me to decide what to play today. It was so NEARLY dragon quest treasures, but I have 50 thousand farm sims in my backlog so I went with one of those. Wylde Flowers is just re-downloading (I need a bigger SD card so bad)
Heard good things about it so in roughly 11 mins I will jump into that.

I will be fulfilling that cringy cliché of 'cosy gaming' as well cause its freezing, so there will be hot chocolate, blankets and oversized pyjamas involved.

Probably mostly Splatoon 3 for Big Run and normal MK8 Deluxe online. I like how common wave 3 tracks have been appearing in the rotation.

I finally ‘beat’ No Man’s Sky on the Switch after 95 hours. I enjoyed it so much that I’m certain I’ll go back for more, but the backlog calls!

Decided to start Metroid Dread next. Big fan of the Metroid series, having the NES as a kid and following the series all the way to the Wii.

All my attention is on Persona 5 Royal and then on to Strikers

More limited room for games this weekend (in favour of a different pastime, though - the local anime and western fiction con is back and despite the work schedule I'm on my way to catch at least half of it😄), but what I'll have will be mostly spent on Switch - from the usual suspects like Xenoblades, NMS, RF5, Borderlands 2, NieR and Fuga, plus a few new recruits like Forward to the Sky, 8Doors, Celeste, Skautfold, Creepy Tale and the today-scheduled Powertris giveaway. Laptop is ruled out, but if the handhelds elbow their way in, they'll likely see more Endless Frontier, Valentia, Exile's End and/or Eternia.

@Picola-Wicola I played the first when it came out (both on PS3 and 360) all those many years back and thought it was really fun. I haven't played any others but plan on buying them all for Switch. So, you're saying the second is even more fun?

Starting my gaming early this weekend! Too cold to go outside or do anything! Just saw the credits for Ragnarok after 42 hours playtime since launch.
Without spoiling anything I'll say I'm not sure about that last chapter. Felt a bit disappointing to me and I'm a bit worried about the direction it might be pointing towards for future entries. But overall a class game! Worthy of the God of War name.
Ringfit is continuing as always. Perhaps even more so as it's about the only thing keeping my blood going (as I said, Cold today.)
I've got the Forspoken demo ready to go but I imagine most of my time this weekend will be dedicated towards Splatoon 3's big run event. Maybe a sprinkle of Xeno 3, Violet and Ragnarok end game throughout.

@JustMonika - Without spoiling too much, I wouldn’t call it in end, just more of a ‘I completed the primary missions’. I doubt there is a real ending. I left a TON of secondary missions unfinished, and there was still a ton of blueprints, cooking recipes and materials to discover. My main base was underwhelming too (functionally basic at best), so I would love to spend some time making a more extravagant. With Hello Games commitment to content, I’m sure they’ll be plenty to do in a few months when I undoubtedly pick it up again. 😁

The game has been on my wishlist ever since it came out. Noticed today that it's currently the Online Trial game so I'm finally playing it. Defeated the first boss and did the side mission that unlocked afterward.

Finally caved and got Nintendo Switch Sports. ProTip: the physical version is £10 cheaper on Amazon and still comes with the leg strap. The bowling was always ridiculous fun on previous iterations, so I’m looking forward to the online version. Also grabbed Firegirl after spotting it discounted by 50%.

On the Miyoo, there’s a new PC Engine ROM dropped - DinoForce - so that’s going on there. Really cool thing is they’re releasing it for free digitally, only charging for physical versions.

I'm gonna play some Splatoon 3 and purchase Slay the Spire on Sunday.

I've been playing a lot of PS5 this past week and got the Platinum trophies for Callisto Protocol, Horizon Forbidden West, and Spirit of the North Enhanced Edition. I'm ready for Crisis Core.

Series X - I'm currently playing through Halo Infinite and Dead Space 3, both co-op with a friend.

Switch - I haven't played much this past week, which is rare. I still have a long way to go on P5R.

Downloaded Night Slashers. Also got a Steam Deck in the post, so I might have a few more handheld options soon.

Back on to some gaming for me this weekend, haven't played a lot over the last couple of weeks due to watching world cup games every day and catching up on my anime backlog.

More Pokemon Scarlet and trying out River City Girls and this weekend I’m board gaming. Original Hero Quest with my son and brother. My brother and I had it as kids in the early 90’s and have always enjoyed it. Its 27 celsius here (81 fahrenheit) so will be in the garden and outside during the day. Today is a rare chance (for me) to get glammed up and socialize, as it’s my company’s holiday party tonight. 🥂🎄💃🏻

Tomorrow, luckily, plans opened up so I’ll have time to recover. I’ll play some Splatoon 3 to see what BIG RUN is all about, and then try out Cuphead and River City Girls 2 as those delivered this week and I’ve been looking forward to both for ages (especially Cuphead).

i continuing my 100% playtrought for the best action game of the year(Bayonetta 3) i already maxed out Bayonetta vitality and magic, currenty i am on chapter 9, i did all the alternate chapters of the game too, loving Ignis Yoyo Arane and Dead End Express,

@JustMonika I remember the original getting a perfect 10 from Edge magazine back in the day (a 10 from them was a big deal back then) but I was a Nintendo exclusive player so never tried it. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed 1 but if you liked 1, 2 is better in almost every way. Just feels smoother, easier to pull off combos and makes more sense (although those last two points may be me just getting better at the gameplay). Enjoy the 80 degree weather - it’s below freezing here!

And I can finally update Elden Ring to 1.08 and go through the process of updating all my mods! Yay!

Playing Bioshock (first time) and really enjoying it. Very interesting setting and the creepy horror elements are done well. Will give the big salmon run in splatoon 3 a go at some point (when my son lets me!)

Also some solo Spirit Island board game play, plus watching England later, in terms of IRL games.

After waiting mostly patiently for Group 3 units to ship, I should finally be able to play “Crankin's Time Travel Adventure” by 9PM tonight!

I'm finally starting Xenoblade 3. Wow, what a great game! I'm just like 5-6 hours in and I know it's going to be incredible. Monolith Soft doesn't disappoint.
A pity it didn't win any prize...

Oracle of Ages and League of Legends.

Literally this morning have finally beat the awesome Thimbleweed Park, and can proudly say that this was accomplished with zero hints/guides! Having played the new Monkey Island on release, I really caught a bug for this genre of ‘point&click adventure’ and am really surprised by how much I enjoy these games. My goal was to beat Monkey Island without a hint, but I crumbled at the very last puzzle! I’d say that Thimbleweed is actually the better game out of the 2, and also TWP is more challenging. TWP took me about 18hrs to beat, albeit a good few of those hours were spent wondering around and getting shamelessly stuck on puzzles! I’m glad I played RtMI first though, as this eased me into the genre a bit… and prepared me for the more challenging TWP
I’ll also be playing more MHR Sunbreak - continuing the endless grind towards AR level 200…. Currently only AR135 🤦‍♂️
Finally, I keep hearing amazing things about Inscryption and downloaded yesterday on a whim. I hear it is best playing completely blind, with as little prior knowledge as possible. Would be keen to know how others have found this game? Please no spoilers!

I just got all stars on Mario Kart's new Grand Prix cups. It was a lot of sweat and cursing on 200cc, especially on the Moon Cup, not gonna lie

I started my morning off with The Pinball Arcade, which is always great for a few rounds of bite-size gaming. I’m also thinking of diving into Wonder Boy in Monster Land and giving that a play-through via the Wonder Boy Collection. Oh and of course, I’ll continue to play the new wave of courses in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my wife and kids.

My plans are simple: my dad and brother are planning on beating the entirety of It Takes Two, and I haven't beaten it yet, so I'm gonna be dodging spoilers like Neo dodging bullets! Since I can't play any of the games I'm gonna (eventually) get from the sale due to a lack of Switch storage space, I'm most likely going to replay a game. Right now I'm debating between Rayman Legends and Captain Toad. Probably going to go with the earlier, as I don't want to play the latter until I get more storage space to download the DLC. While my dad and brother play It Takes Two, I might hop back into Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, as I've lost all my will to play Pokemon X, and Paper Jam is my comfort food as midterms are only a week away (They're already only a week away? HOW?).

It's nice to see new tracks coming to MK8D. It completely refreshes the game.

And nice to see some old familiar tracks, with twists (like all of a sudden going backwards through the course! LOL.) My daughter and I I were racing on a course we thought we knew and all of a sudden both of us are saying . . . WTH! LOL!

A friend and I are working our way through puzzlers we wanted to try, but never did. We recently finished Inside, and are now on Untitled Goose Game. Portal is next.

Might pop into Splatoon 3 for a few Big Run matches.

Otherwise, more Siralim Ultimate on Steam. Granted I also have the game on Switch now (since its release last week), but with the performance compared to Steam being night and day at the moment (with Switch version running much slower), I'll continue to play on said Steam for the time being.

Trying the new custom item option in Mario Kart. Having only blue shells on was one of the most hilarious and insane things I've ever experienced. Probably the single best update to the game since 200cc was added back on Wii U. I'm still not a fan of the quality of the DLC tracks, though, even if some of them look better. The Tour tracks are still horrendous IMO.

I also played some Boom Street on my old modded Wii with my little sister. I love that game, but the computer players are pricks.

Disco Elysium. First half hour has been…weird. 10/10’s and rave reviews on Steam though so I’ll stick with it

I'm having trouble deciding what game I should commit to next. Originally I wanted to dive into Nier Automata but I'm having trouble playing that game right now because it feels like a TV-only experience and I'm constantly on move so I can't tie myself to a TV (it doesn't feel right to play on handheld). My other debate is Dragon Quest XI but I'm struggling to commit to a long-term game especially after Xenoblade 3. I've also bought a handful of other games like Hollow Knight & Blue Fire which are part of a growing backlog but I am holding off for similar reasons. As ironic as it sounds, I've considered doing a second play through of XC3 but I'm waiting for the full DLC drop before considering any NG+ scenarios. Basically I have time for 1-2 games between now and Zelda TOTK. The 4 I've named (Nier, DQ, HK, BF) are the frontrunners, any suggestions on where I should start?

Gonna be playing Big Run in Splatoon 3 (this event goes so hard yall) as well as some Fortnite (new season is very fun). May try to sneak in some Persona 5 Royal, but I’m going to mainly try and dedicate this weekend to getting some personal projects done. My holiday swing officially starts this weekend; my haunt is having a one weekend only Christmas themed event, so that's this evening and last night both booked/sorted. Between other things I have going on, I won't game as much as I'd like. I'm about fifteen hours into the amazingly bonkers 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on Switch and am now fully sucked into Remembrance mode with the others on the side. I'll try to throw in a couple of levels in Kirby: Triple Deluxe as well for good measure.

As Kate is doing, I'm also playing MGSV. It's the worst game of the entire series, but gameplay is great, and everything is fine until the end of the game. I'm really enjoying it, and playing it on Steam with my Switch Pro Controller. On Switch, I might play MK8D, and River City Girls, that game was a very pleasant surprise.

Just finished Hyrule Warriors AOC, beautiful game.

I just got back from my honeymoon in Cancun Friday evening, so I’m mainly recouping. If I do find the energy, it’ll be spent unpacking and cleaning up the house after all the wedding charades and decorations.

That said, I am playing Chained Echos on Xbox Game Pass. This is quite the fantastic JRPG that is highly reminiscent of classic games from the SNES era. The world and story building are wonderfully done, and the combat is also spectacular. And it’s not a great JRPG without a killer soundtrack, and this game does not disappoint. I’m really looking forward to spending more time in this well-crafted world.

Aside from that, I’ll still be doing my normal runs here and there in Vampire Survivors. And, the fact that the game is now on mobile, my addiction is only going to be further amplified.

Speaking of rouge-likes, with the announcement of Hades II, I decided to go back to an old save file of the first game and complete some more escapes. What a masterpiece of a game this is - from the well written characters, impeccable voice acting, and the sheer fun factor - I can’t wait to see what the sequel holds.

Resident Evil 8: Village on my Steam Deck; great game after 7: Biohazard being rather underwhelming (although it's not that bad a game when you learn to play it properly).

Just some casual side quests in NieR: Automata here.

For 3DS, a bit of Fire Emblem Fates, and I picked up Mario and Luigi Dream Team (I played it a lot as a kid and thus wanted to pick it up before the eshop closes) this week so probably that as well. For Switch, I hopped into Splatoon 3 for a bit only to get my butt kicked in Online, and then a bit more Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country for the pollen orb sidequest.

LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (PS2) - Nearing the end of the first episode in my minikit collectathon. That pod racing level can rot in hell though....

Rayman Jungle Run (Windows Phone) - Adore this so far!

Age of Sparta (Windows Phone) - I'm in the mood for a resource gathering game and this will fit the bill.

I am goimg to finally finish Persona 5 Royal this weekend. That game is long and great. I did get Hollow Knight on sale, so maybe try that out and play some Chaos; Head Noah! Happy gaming everyone!

This weekend I’ll be killing Salmonids with reckless abandon during the Big Run event. It’s been a blast so far and is a great challenge. I’ve taken advantage of the current Partners Sale on the eshop. Added Portal and the Goose game amongst some others. Bayonetta 3 will continue to get some reps, great action game…quite unlike anything out at the moment.

Series X..more Dying Light 2, Vampire Survivors here and there and I should probably start Elden Ring…apparently it’s pretty good ? 😝

If I was going to spike my controller over any game these days, it would probably be Slay the Spire. I can consistently get the Watcher pretty far along, but I seemingly just can't get the arithmetic to align against the strongest foes. Nonetheless, I'm glad you recommended it, and that Kate covered it a while back. Truly excellent gameplay.

I just finished my second playthrough of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and decided to marry Claude at the end! Now I can finally start Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, which I’m excited about. I’ll also probably go back to another game in my backlog, Danganronpa 2. I’m on Chapter 2 of that game and just got to the Deadly Life section.

I just started a second playthrough of Paper Mario: The Origami King, so I'll mostly be playing that, with some Mario Kart 8 and Smash Ultimate sprinkled in as well.

This weekend (and probably a few more), I'll be playing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I have never finished this game before and it's high time to change it.

As much as I loathe the abomination of the "physical" release, I've been playing the crap out of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I've played it on PC over the years, but never completed it. I've finally completed the main story earlier tonight (I only started playing the game mid last week). The price wasn't dropping and I lost patience longing to play Vice City on a handheld as much as I absolutely freaking resent it despite otherwise not relenting to "physical" releases that are incomplete. I also figured that I'll probably never buy another Rockstar game again (short of ports/rereleases), so, I figured I'd take the plunge. It just sucks so, so, so much that they've screwed over the physical release in this way, and especially so because my favourite between the three games isn't on the cart at all (though I can at least wirelessly transfer the data between consoles, so, that's one small consolation). Ironically, the update for San Andreas (which is on the cart) is larger than the download for the entirety of Vice City.

The game has crashed a bunch of times and the end credits crawl froze a bunch of times and was pretty laggy throughout, which is pathetic. I've also encountered glitches here and there, but nothing that I would consider to be particularly problematic so long as they don't break the game. Gyro controls are also virtually unusable in handheld mode, but works perfectly in tabletop/docked modes... ugh... I'd hate to imagine how the other games fared in their launch builds.

It's an awful port of one of the best games ever made, and while it didn't diminish my ability to enjoy the game, I'd be apprehensive about recommending it, especially when the original version can be played on PC (and with the original soundtrack intact). If I had a Steam Deck, I wouldn't have looked twice at the Switch version.

I'm playing through the River City Girls NSO trial while I can. Trying to see if I can beat it.

I decided to jump back into Warframe, it had been about 3 years and I realized that I had spent a decent amount of $ on a couple of Prime frames and gear so I figured “why not?”. It’s a little overwhelming but I’m just having fun leveling up my gear, running Survival missions, and just slowly seeing what happens. It’s still amazing to see in action on my Switch- it’s gorgeous, it runs flawlessly, and it doesn’t feel compromised in any way. There was a reason (or twelve) that it was my fave for a long time and I’m glad I rediscovered it. For a long time I just had WAY too many games going on at the same time. Now I’m just saying “screw it” to my insane backlog, not worrying about grabbing every single thing that comes out, and I’ve got a much more levelheaded thing going with my gaming life. So, I’m enjoying the hell out of Warframe & Minecraft these days, and I’ve been really getting back into The Binding of Isaac too. Honestly, those 3 games (WF, MC, BOI) would be my desert island games for sure, no question.

still playing through Pokemon Violet. Haven't beaten the main storyline yet. Playing a lil bit of ACNH and might start Harvestella. I just bought that physically with birthday money from my dad who came down yesterday from the States.

Xenoblade 2! I’m so excited that I’ve finally been able to start. I’m about 20 hours in, and I’m on Chapter 3. The Blade system is really interesting, and I’m really seeing how Xenoblade 3 was a perfect mix of the first two games. I like all the characters so far, but I haven’t really played enough to get to know them well. The music is INSANE and the world design and compass mechanic are soooo good. I love Xenoblade so much.😊

@Axecon If you haven’t decided yet, I would definitely recommend Dragon Quest XI!! It’s beautiful on the Switch and one of my favorite games of all-time.
