@Dr_Lugae Remember that Sony was on a buying spree at the time, I have no doubts they set this up so they could buy Nintendo later on, like they did with Columbia Pictures and CBS Music. I actually think it's genius they made a back room deal with Philips to break up the deal they had with Sony. Better to have a competitor than to be annexed by a mega-corp.

@MirrorFate2 That was sadly also my first thought when I saw this. Instead of "Yay! Persona 4 Remake!" I went "Oh god. A Persona 4 Remake."

@Zeebor15 I'm more so interested of how long the contract is for. It's gotta be at least ten years, but that means it's up for renewal next year, in 2026.

@PipeGuy64Bit I think it was mostly due to the GameBoy's tiny ass screen and no backlight. Then again, it was the same list where Mario 2 was a "bad game" because of it being a reskin.

@Haruki_NLI Wouldn't that mean Sony still owns the rights to "Endless Possibility", but like they don't know which branch it's located in? Or better yet, why hasn't SegaSammy tried to buy the rights to all the missing songs with big old stacks of cash? If they can buy studios, why can't they buy off the song holders?

I think you guys are missing something important. This was 90's Sony. The same Sony that was throwing huge stacks of money around, buying up Columbia Pictures and CBS Music. The PlayStation deal was basically step one of a longer plan to buy out Nintendo in a unfriendly buyout at best.

I would also consider that many iconic Nintendo IPs would of never existed (Star Fox, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country) if they had to stick with CDs. I also think most Sony IPs would of been butterflied away if not for Sony needing to strike out on its own.

@Yoshi3 Pizza Tower is a mixture of Wario and Sonic. Antonblast is a mixture of Wario and Crash Bandicoot. Another big difference is that Anton doesn't punish you if you lose your combo in a level. The so called "CRACKED!" run of a level is 100% not needed to 100% the game.

@Coalescence I've always wondered if the 64DD would come out sooner if they talked to Iomega about a partnership with the disks. But then again, with how the myth of "The Click of Death" was active in the late 90's...

@Twilite9 Some random left-wing leaning consultant group that people are assuming to be worse than Satan, despite them only giving modest suggestions at best and threatening to "Cancel" a developer if they dare turn them down. It's always telling that they bring up games that bomb as examples as their works (Like SS: Kill the Justice League and Concord) but never bring the fact they also had a hand of games that were very successful (Baldur's Gate 3 and Spiderman 2 for example). Basically, whenever someone mentions them, they will almost always follow it up about "Wokeness" or "DEI" Strawmen.

@Kev_2610 When Level 5 actually releases a game that is. I'm honestly amazed how many missed moonshots they have made in the past decade and still be a private company. You think with IPs like Layton and Yo-Kai Watch (Yes, I'm biased) they would of been corporate raided by now.

@Kingy If I recall correctly, Nintendo owns minority stakes of Intelligent Systems and HaL. I do think they might have plans to circle the wagons if need be. Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is starting to do just that with Game Freak.

@Xeacons Freedom of speech is the freedom of speech FROM the GOVERNMENT. As in Uncle Sam can't smite you speaking your mind, but your Uncle from Nintendo can smite you if you break their TOS. Remember that as big as video game companies/websites are they are still private places. Their bouncers don't need to be lawyers to kick you out.

I honestly kind of hope there's a Pitfall Movie with Jack Black, just so he can go full circle with his career. One of Black's earliest roles was an advertisement for David Crane's Pitfall! (for the 2600/VCS)

There's a reason why the Super Mario Bros Super Show has influenced the main Mario universe, but this show is a black elephant on the Zelda series (I would argue the Zelda CD-i games had more influence than this show.) Though I would eat my words if there is a scene in the Zelda movie where Link says "Well EXCUUUUSE Me, Princess."
