There’s no definitive answer on the validity of this rumor but… My heart wants this to be true. This is exactly what I wanted, a better, more powerful switch. No need to rock the very profitable boat.
I am beyond confused as to what is going on here. I know Nintendo is one for curveballs and unexpected moves, but this has to one of the rather stranger things we’ve seen from them, to have this weird of a teaser for something that appears to be first party… I guess we’ll have to wait and see what is going on.
@Lizuka they’re probably focused entirely on whatever the next big project from them is after Strikers Battle League. My bet is it’s Luigi’s Mansion 4.
This is the kind of extra content every game rerelease or remaster should aim to do. It’s an easy inclusion and gives something fans really desire to have.
I’m gonna be honest: I haven’t even bought the game yet. I loved BOTW, but I’m not really ready to basically dedicate any time to game to just the one title for the next few months.
I think there’s also a pretty simple reason why Rebirth is “underperforming”: it’s a sequel that very much requires the predecessor was played. At best, you will sell the exact amount of units the last one did, and very rarely does a sequel of this type outsell the original. Splitting up this FF7 remake into as many parts as they did was a mistake if there aim was consistently super high sales, it just wasn’t realistic.
I’m honestly okay with Square Enix taking some time to really think about what they’ve been doing the past few years. They’ve been kinda just doing a lot of projects at once, more then developers even bigger than them have been doing, and to decide “hey maybe we need to be working on fewer and more marketable projects.” isn’t as objectively terrible as what’s happened at Xbox the past few days. As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been significant loss of jobs and talent at SE, for now at least, so if they’d like to redirect team and staff to boost profits with safer titles, so be it. Better than them losing it all trying to do everything at once. But this is also a complicated topic to address in one comment.
I am for one SO shocked, surprised, aghast, that Nintendo found that allowing their users to only share content to a social media website that’s running on duct tape, two staffers, the weirdest ad funding imaginable since literally every other company left, and full of both mostly bots, outrage content, and not family friendly content, was possibly not a good idea for the brand. (Was the sarcasm clear on this one?)
This is strangely pretty definitive looking for a Nintendo patent which tends to be much more vague in shape and form. I’m not saying this is a guaranteed for the next console but this seems more likely of a feature than not.
The Mania team has impressed me with how in just two titles they’ve shown they can master both 3D and 2D platformers. I am genuinely excited to see what they do next as a platformer freak.
Eurogamer is backing this up so it’s probably true. On the one hand I understand Nintendo’s desire to want more time to build a stronger launch line up. On the other, I’m imaging this has shuffled the plans for this year completely and we may not see much of any major releases. Just more remakes and smaller titles.
They’ve been probably releasing too many titles then is justifiable budget wise. I’m just expecting a slow down in releases, which is fine considering they’ve basically remade every game they’ve made already 😅
When they said “we’re rebooting the entire project”, they really meant a hard reboot. Though I’m still curious as to what was going on before Retro’s involvement that required such a public reset, and what Retro was doing for years before this project.
I think while the design of monsters and plagiarism allegations aren’t without merit, I think many have taken it too far. Death threats are reprehensible.
I also want to say, the game appears to have solid gameplay and graphics, and provides much needed competition in the monster catching RPG space. I think the success of this title shows how people want higher quality types of these games, more so then TPCi has been offering the past decade it feels.
While I do like GameFreak taking on projects other then Pokemon, I am hoping this isn’t another Little Town Hero thing that takes away staff and resources significantly from the next gen of Pokemon, which really needs to be more solid then what we just got on a technical level.
He’s genuinely made very insightful content, glad he was able to share his passions more openly. Although I always had a feeling he wouldn’t stay away from making new games for too long 🤣
I think this is a sensible move given how time consuming and expensive game development has become in general. For a company that relies heavily on first party releases to bring in sales, more games from their IP means better results. I’d love to see some more indie teams take on stuff like we saw with Cadence of Hyrule
@martynstuff ironically, I think a full blown DLC pack for a Scarlet and Violet Pokemon as a fighter would be better received then past Pokemon with how popular the designs of Paldea’s cast of creatures have been.
I’m assuming these were meant to be individual promotional events for each of the associated game’s releases that never happened and just got wrapped together in this one big release.
Ironically, my favorite spin off from the Minecraft IP is still the probably terrible, but nostalgic to my childhood Minecraft: Story Mode. If they could ever get the licensing rights sorted out I’d love a rerelease of those games, as poorly written as they are 😅
I think it’ll be Switch 2. This is their strongest branding in years, perhaps even stronger than the Wii branding. This is the time to go basic, and I think considering how much leadership has changed at Nintendo, they’re going not to be as wacky as we expect.
For a year filled with feeling like the next gen of Nintendo is really around the corner, the company has had an extremely proactive release schedule of quality. I think this really gets me even more hyped thinking about what they’ve got planned for the next generation of Switch.
I think the word that sums up this game is “fine”. Nothing here feels like it’s breaking new highs for the series but hey, it didn’t dip to a low. With Sonic, I’m not sure you could expect better then that honestly 🤷♂️
I’m waiting on Tears of The Kingdom. I know it’s great but I just need a time when I’m not so busy to really dive into a game like that. I’ve got a plenty big backlog of smaller titles I’d like to get into first.
Congrats to BG3, haven’t played it but I can tell based off the reception it’s a finely crafted game. Genuinely an amazing year for gaming filled with excellent titles from all sorts of studios and developers.
I think at bare minimum, Nintendo’s heavy involvement and the fact they’re funding 50% of the movie giving them a lot of control, it will not be offensively bad. Now will it be very good, eh, probably not 🤷♂️. I’m just curious why the choice to go live action as opposed to animated.
Nintendo is definitely transitioning as a business to have movies, themes parks, and other extensions of the brand play a much bigger part in their business. Games will always be the top focus but it’ll definitely be a more varied company in product releases. Also nice to see Miyamoto kinda being the guy helping to run all these non-game projects.
I must say, very intriguing to see them working with someone other than Universal/Illumination given the theme parks and Mario movie already cementing a deep bond there. Also shocked they’ve decided to go for live action instead of animated. The Legend of Zelda I wager was always going to be tougher to adapt then most Nintendo IP for a good film, but it seems the big N wants to be very hands on with this project, so we’ll see what happens I suppose.
I think the sales differences between the types of Switch are fascinating, I did not expect the OLED to be so much more popular then the other two. I guess I get why Nintendo felt the need to make such a model after all 😅
I’d like a system with mostly consistent 60FPS and 1080P resolution, and it sounds like this chip will do that at the bare minimum which is nice. It is much to just want a Nintendo system with it not AS far behind modern standards as before 😅
I think I would have preferred more new courses as opposed to a lot of old courses, though I understand that the point of this DLC was reusing Tour assets and that whatever new courses they’re developing are for the 9th game.
@Mgalens appreciate the shout out. I think people often forget with the Wii U game pad especially, it takes a lot more of the systems processing power during use than you’d think. Same goes for the 3DS and DS. Sure, Nintendo makes it work for their own games but a console still needs to be something third party devs can reasonable work with in modern standards. Sure yes there’s nothing stopping them from having to deal with two screens, but it makes it more likely more compromises will be made worsening the final product or they will simply choose to not port. Point is, dual screens comes at a cost for developers and consumers who want games that run at least somewhat better then what we have.
If I’m being honest, I think returning to the dual screen format would be a mistake. Like it or not, single screen allows for processing power to not be split, and is easier for third party devs in the porting process of games since they don’t have to spend extra time, ya know, making content for a second screen. It feels like it would be a mistake for Nintendo to move back instead of going forward with the single screen hybrid model that has frankly become there wildest success in my eyes
While I can commend his skill as a game creator, I cannot lie that his personality rubs me the wrong way sometimes. Regardless, I hope he continues to be able to create great games
@electrolite77 it’s not entirely the fact he wanted to buy them for me, it’s the fact he was actively saying things about how Nintendo needed to “see there future is not on their own hardware” and talking about how a friend of Microsoft is buying Nintendo stock and how that could lead to an “opportunity”. That goes a bit beyond corporate wishful thinking and to me could upset Nintendo.
This probably isn’t the most pressing matter with the discovery of this email, but I do have a bit of a worry that this could cause a break down in the good relations between Nintendo and Microsoft. This feels like the sort of thing Nintendo would be upset to read, and I’d hate see things like Banjo and Steve getting cut from the next smash because of it
