Re: Nintendo Reveals Disturbing, Horror-Themed 'Emio' Teaser

NarwhalKing

I am beyond confused as to what is going on here. I know Nintendo is one for curveballs and unexpected moves, but this has to one of the rather stranger things we’ve seen from them, to have this weird of a teaser for something that appears to be first party… I guess we’ll have to wait and see what is going on.

Re: Soapbox: Square Enix's "Extraordinary Losses" And This Whole Xbox Mess Have Me Scared For The Future

NarwhalKing

I think there’s also a pretty simple reason why Rebirth is “underperforming”: it’s a sequel that very much requires the predecessor was played. At best, you will sell the exact amount of units the last one did, and very rarely does a sequel of this type outsell the original. Splitting up this FF7 remake into as many parts as they did was a mistake if there aim was consistently super high sales, it just wasn’t realistic.

I’m honestly okay with Square Enix taking some time to really think about what they’ve been doing the past few years. They’ve been kinda just doing a lot of projects at once, more then developers even bigger than them have been doing, and to decide “hey maybe we need to be working on fewer and more marketable projects.” isn’t as objectively terrible as what’s happened at Xbox the past few days. As far as I’m aware, there hasn’t been significant loss of jobs and talent at SE, for now at least, so if they’d like to redirect team and staff to boost profits with safer titles, so be it. Better than them losing it all trying to do everything at once. But this is also a complicated topic to address in one comment.

Re: Nintendo Switch Ending Support For Social Media Platform 'X' Next month

NarwhalKing

I am for one SO shocked, surprised, aghast, that Nintendo found that allowing their users to only share content to a social media website that’s running on duct tape, two staffers, the weirdest ad funding imaginable since literally every other company left, and full of both mostly bots, outrage content, and not family friendly content, was possibly not a good idea for the brand. (Was the sarcasm clear on this one?)

Re: Rumour: Switch Successor Might Not Be Launching Until 2025

NarwhalKing

Eurogamer is backing this up so it’s probably true. On the one hand I understand Nintendo’s desire to want more time to build a stronger launch line up. On the other, I’m imaging this has shuffled the plans for this year completely and we may not see much of any major releases. Just more remakes and smaller titles.

Re: Yes, Nintendo Is Aware Of Palworld's Existence

NarwhalKing

I think while the design of monsters and plagiarism allegations aren’t without merit, I think many have taken it too far. Death threats are reprehensible.

I also want to say, the game appears to have solid gameplay and graphics, and provides much needed competition in the monster catching RPG space. I think the success of this title shows how people want higher quality types of these games, more so then TPCi has been offering the past decade it feels.

Re: Pokémon Developer Game Freak Trademarks 'PAND LAND'

NarwhalKing

While I do like GameFreak taking on projects other then Pokemon, I am hoping this isn’t another Little Town Hero thing that takes away staff and resources significantly from the next gen of Pokemon, which really needs to be more solid then what we just got on a technical level.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Seeking More Studios To Work On Its IP

NarwhalKing

I think this is a sensible move given how time consuming and expensive game development has become in general. For a company that relies heavily on first party releases to bring in sales, more games from their IP means better results. I’d love to see some more indie teams take on stuff like we saw with Cadence of Hyrule

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

NarwhalKing

I think at bare minimum, Nintendo’s heavy involvement and the fact they’re funding 50% of the movie giving them a lot of control, it will not be offensively bad. Now will it be very good, eh, probably not 🤷‍♂️. I’m just curious why the choice to go live action as opposed to animated.

Re: Surprise! Nintendo Is Officially Working On A Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Movie

NarwhalKing

I must say, very intriguing to see them working with someone other than Universal/Illumination given the theme parks and Mario movie already cementing a deep bond there. Also shocked they’ve decided to go for live action instead of animated. The Legend of Zelda I wager was always going to be tougher to adapt then most Nintendo IP for a good film, but it seems the big N wants to be very hands on with this project, so we’ll see what happens I suppose.

Re: Newly Discovered Nintendo Filing Shows Off "Dual-Screen, Detachable Device"

NarwhalKing

@Mgalens appreciate the shout out. I think people often forget with the Wii U game pad especially, it takes a lot more of the systems processing power during use than you’d think. Same goes for the 3DS and DS. Sure, Nintendo makes it work for their own games but a console still needs to be something third party devs can reasonable work with in modern standards. Sure yes there’s nothing stopping them from having to deal with two screens, but it makes it more likely more compromises will be made worsening the final product or they will simply choose to not port. Point is, dual screens comes at a cost for developers and consumers who want games that run at least somewhat better then what we have.

Re: Newly Discovered Nintendo Filing Shows Off "Dual-Screen, Detachable Device"

NarwhalKing

If I’m being honest, I think returning to the dual screen format would be a mistake. Like it or not, single screen allows for processing power to not be split, and is easier for third party devs in the porting process of games since they don’t have to spend extra time, ya know, making content for a second screen. It feels like it would be a mistake for Nintendo to move back instead of going forward with the single screen hybrid model that has frankly become there wildest success in my eyes

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo, "THE Prime Asset" In Xbox's Content Quest? It's Only Natural

NarwhalKing

@electrolite77 it’s not entirely the fact he wanted to buy them for me, it’s the fact he was actively saying things about how Nintendo needed to “see there future is not on their own hardware” and talking about how a friend of Microsoft is buying Nintendo stock and how that could lead to an “opportunity”. That goes a bit beyond corporate wishful thinking and to me could upset Nintendo.
