@B_Lindz I am cautiously optimistic in that I think this is the last time they are doing this. I think the Episode Aigis DLC is Persona 3 Reload is proof that they are switching to a DLC model going forward instead of more rereleases. It would make logistical sense in that they won't have to print and ship more physical copies.
I just hope they are more durable and less cramped. I imagine the electromagnetic mechanism would be something like magsafe so there isn't as much give. It also tends to give off a satisfying sound for people who will miss the click.
@HeadPirate Which is crazy since Microsoft was already failing to consistently put out quality titles in the series sthey already owned . There's not much point in owning IP that you can't make money off of when it's sitting on a shelf.
@mariomaster96 They even said "releasing worldwide simultaneously" instead of just "worldwide" like most trailers. It makes me curious with rumors that the new system was pushed back to next year. I wonder if TPC was planning for a Switch 2 reveal or not.
Guess I'm not buying this. If the P3 Reload data mine is any good indicator, Atlus might be shifting models soon and hopefully this is the end of these enhanced versions. Especially if this one bombs.
They need a bigger team, more skilled team, better schedule, better development tools, etc. Nintendo really needs to intervene and help get Game Freak up to snuff. Maybe, have Monolithsoft assist them like the Zelda team.
@Nontendo_4DS It's possible, especially if they put a bigger battery in this thing because the launch Switch battery definitely wasn't great and that was a much weaker system.
I really wished it were OLED since I have an LED TV and OLED at that size is still a fair bit more expensive. I'm so used to on my phone now and I heard the Switch OLED looks amazing. If the money saved goes into making a more capable system that allows devs to bring more games that run well then I will make do. Maybe they will make an OLED model in the future.
@HatesCheese With it being 8 inches and LCD they could probably afford to even go 1440p for a reasonable price. Not that I think many games would actually run at that resolution in handheld mode.
@huupawel Zelda has ran circles around Metroid in sales. The best selling Metroid games before Dread reached 3 million were Prime and the original which both sold around 2.8 million. The only Zelda game that sold that many copies or fewer was TriForce Heroes and The Minish Cap which are both infamous for being considered commercial bombs even with the latter now being considered a cult classic. Even when Zelda's popularity dwindled for most of the 200s and 2010s it still sold around 4 million almost every time with that being considered a failure compared to Ocarina and Twilight Princess. Metroid has never come close to that kind of success, but Dread could be positive sign of a momentum shift.
@RadioHedgeFund I don't know. They did it with Zelda twice and that's an actual system seller whereas Metroid mostly sells to a specific hardcore fan base. It doesn't really sell systems like Zelda does. It would be awesome if it was exclusive to new hardware so it wasn't held back by the Switch of course.
@Baler Yeah, the article assumes that the new games will be the focus, but there honestly isn't much music to pull from. It's really more medleys and outside of the main theme, I don't remember any of it except the piano intensifying near guardians.
@abbyhitter The only problem is that the Game Awards are very bloated and not interesting whatsoever. I think the true successor is the things like Nintendo Direct and State of Play. Rather than truly dying, E3 became fractured amongst many online events because the old format was outdated.
The Game Awards are just a Geoff Keighley vanity project used by advertisers to sell us products. I don't know why anybody is shocked that they don't give the winners enough time to speak.
@Croctopus Thats my biggest issue. The dungeons are worst thing about these games. This Hyrule is much more interesting than fields or oceans we have seen before. If they could combine the exploration of the new games with the story progression and dungeon design of the old games, they would have a winning formula.
As much as I liked these games, I still prefer the older games. the puzzles and dungeons were far more interesting. I feel like there still more room to incorporated what made older 3D Zelda games great into the new formula. Stuff like dungeons is much more important to me than things like crafting and cooking.
The joycon are my biggest problem. My hands cramp in handheld mode, a true d-pad would make controls a little nicer, and my launch joycon just started drifting. If we get a design that has a d-pad with hall effect sticks and a more ergonomic shape, that would be fantastic.
@gayfurries While I would agree, this song does kinda suck. Also, while they sample the song at the beginning, the second half is just playing it unedited next to a drum machine.
@Jamie64326 Paper Mario TTY. Sure. This however is a pretty short game that I'm not sure you can charge much for nor do I know they will recoup costs when it could just been added to NSO.
Usually when something is announced that I don't care for, I just move on, but this somehow actively made the direct worse. This is the biggest waste of resources imaginable. Imagine sitting in a meeting where someone had the bright idea to take Mario vs Donkey Kong and remake it from the ground up for Switch. Who asked for this? Who even asked for the sequels? I mane this game is better than it's sequels, but still. Why? It could've just been put on NSO. If they wanted a quick and cheap remake, I'm sure there were plenty more worthy games from their catalog than Mario vs Donkey Kong. This Direct was fine, but this announcement somehow lowers it into bad territory. They really thought it was necessary to tease and open pre-orders for this in September when it drops in February. For the stale butterless toast of a game that is Mario vs Donkey Kong. I can't imagine the person behind this decision having a job by March of next year.
@ZimmerRemmiz Interestingly, I had two different Italian professors in college who told me that Italians don't even see Mario as Italian let alone an Italian stereotype because he's just so cartoony.
@PtM It seemed like he was getting pretty burnt out from the role. Time is catching up, his voice is changing, and yet the Mario machine keeps chugging. He absolutely love it though and he's still an ambassador, but I think he knew when it was time to retire. At least this way he can advise his successor rather than keeping the role until his death. That could've made the search a new Mario a little harder on Nintendo and harder for the new actor to fill those massive brown work boots.
@rushiosan To be fair, whoever it is sounds like a fine replacement. It definitely didn't quite sound identical Martinet, but it did sound pretty spot on to his late career work in the role as his voice became more high pitched.
I knew it had to happen, but I really wish they would the Charles and Mario justice by announcing the new voice actor formally and the give them a proper welcome.
Ryan is easily the most incompetent of the Big 3's bosses. This is the same guy who said gamers don't want to play classic games in response to calls for better backwards compatibility prior to the PS5's launch. I don't know how he has a job, because the PS5's success is in spite of him, not because.
These are the same clowns who have failed to properly enforce antitrust laws since the 1980s, leading to an unprecedented centralization of power in virtually every industry. I don't trust there opinion who is or isn't competitive in any particular industry.
Unfortunately, it feels like western developers are much further ahead in this department. I'm not surprised since I have heard that many countries in Asia such as Japan in this case, have fewer laws to ensure that people with disabilities have access to the resources they need.
