Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

Monsti

@Marce2240 Sorry, I just can't agree on this. Canvas course felt natural and getting Kirby to do what you wanted him to do took practice. But not because of the controls but because you had to learn how to work exactly with the physics. It was fun. Playing Starfox just felt frustrating and not natural. It felt very forced. I really wish it wasn't so, I've been waiting a long time for this game. If the do a demo I'll give it a try (it's been 6 months since I played it and I know they tweaked it) but I didn't feel enjoyable.

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

@Syrek24 You're just repeating the same fanboy phrases every fanboy does. There is a difference between positivity and fanboying. I really enjoyed Steamworld Heist. It was fresh, tight and fun. In fact: Gaming hasn't lost its magic. The gaming world is full of it and very diverse right now. But most of that stuff is not coming from Nintendo. In fact: No one is doing as little innovation as them right now. Mario Tennis, Mario Party etc. etc. Again: I don't really wanna discuss it because it's the same fanboy phrases over and over. There is no need to throw money at Nintendo for a mediocre game and telling yourself over and over IT IS GOOD IT IS GOOD IT IS GOOD, when the gaming world is full of gems.

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

Monsti

This fanboyism is the reason why Nintendo can do all this crap over and over again. I don't understand why we always have to be cheery and positive. This is a very mediocre looking Arcade-Shooter that you need 30 minutes to get into to be able to play halfway decently (I played 20 min and just hated it).
I'm hardly on this site anymore because Nintendo is just sad right now and this forced positivity is annoying....Let's hope the NX will not be a Gimmick-packed piece of garbage....

Re: Miitomo Tops iOS Chart in the US and Hits Three Million Global Downloads

Monsti

@PlywoodStick Yeah, the numbers are not as impressive as everybody says especially since the Japanese numbers are part of this. Also: The only thing that counts is sadly not the "top downloads" but "top grossing" and as you say: There are just a couple of evergreens the rest dies off quickly.
I'm still convinced this is the wrong territory for a company as Nintendo and they'd be better off putting their resources elsewhere.

Having all that said I'm really enjoying the app. It won't keep me interested longer than a couple of weeks (the questions already feel repetitive after 24 hours) and won't spent one cent.

Re: Poll: Vote for Your Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

Monsti

1) A link to the past (imo the best video game of all time)
2) Link's Awakening (Maybe the most creative one, not quite as perfect as ALTTP because of the GB limitations I think)
3) Twilight Princess (Basically the better Ocarina. I understand that's why some people don't like it as much)

Runner up: Link between worlds - Best dungeons in the franchise.

I still think Wind Waker is by far the most overrated one but I get it's the one fresh in people's mind and the artstyle is amazing. I actually found the tutorial at the beginning WAY MORE annoying the the one in TP that everybody hates.

Re: Site News: Retiring Our Super Mario Maker Course Sharer

Monsti

Your course sharer was the saving grace for this game for me personally. I got frustrated pretty quickly with noone finding my levels and having to play sooo many terrible levels. The course sharer made the game a lot more fun.
Having that said though: It was still tedious to type in all the numbers and search for stuff you wanna play so I haven't touched the game in months....I guess I'll check the new bookmark site and see how much that helps.

Re: Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey Believes Virtual Boy "Hurt" the VR Industry, But It's Not All Bad

Monsti

Tried Oculus at Gamescom and didn't think it was anything more than a gimmick....which is exactly what everybody always criticizes Nintendo for doing. I really don't get that. While, yes, the VB was black and red and had no tracking, I still think the current VR technology is not the way we always envisioned it. I still felt like I'm awkwardly moving around and have a TV attached to my eyes.

He might be right about the VB killing VR kind of for a while. I remember a VR crazy between 1990 and 1995. After The VB came I didn't hear about it for more than 15 years.

Re: Talking Point: Five Key Challenges Nintendo Faces with the NX

Monsti

Very good article. Nintendo should read this
I still think, however, that one factor is more important than all of those: Timing!
And the timing is way off: A release of a new console in 2016 with games that are not vastly technichally superior to PS4 and Xone is basically pointless. We're too fae into the cycle I think. especially becsuse developers have already been working with the other tech for years.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima Has Published a New Message for Shareholders and Investors

Monsti

I'm starting to see little changes in the company since he took over but the "whole new concept" thing sounds like gimmicks again. I've started to lose my patience with Nintendo. Like Kirk said a couple of comments up: The whole transformation thing is not something good. It's always hit or miss and it hasn't been hit for me in a long long time. Even the 3DS, which I love, only works for me because you can basically switch off all its gimmicks and just play games.
I'm buying a PS4 next week. The NX has to do A LOT to make invest again. I won't buy another Nintendo console just for a Mario Game every now and then.
So convince me, Nintendo. Start talking about that thing. For the first time ever I'll be expecting a reveal not with excitement but with doubt.

Re: Nintendo NX Doesn't Need To Compete With PlayStation 4 And Xbox One To Be A Success, Claims Analyst

Monsti

Sure and whatever other films starts tomorrow doesn't need to compete with Star Wars because it does its own thing. And whatever smartphone is released doesn't compete with the Iphone cause it does its own thing. And whatever TV show is released the same time as a Marvel show on Netflix doesn't compete because it does its own thing......
That's just not how it works! You're in the same space and you compete with the other products in that space for people's time and money. Whatever you do.

Re: Nintendo Remains Bullish Around the 3DS and Its Future Prospects

Monsti

I love the 3DS..it might be my favorite console of all time.
I think Nintendo might push it 1-2 years too far, though. Like they always do. Paper Jam (as much as people like it) already shows that the well is running dry and that they did all they can do on the thing. Indy developers are also moving on when it comes to specs (that's why Isaac is only on NEW 3DS) and 2016 would be the perfect year to evolve. But again, Nintendo will probably wait 1-2 years too long which is too bad.

Re: See All That's Coming in the Tri Force Heroes 2.0 Update

Monsti

What a great update. It's so good to see how Nintendo has been actually reacting to what people liked/disliked about the games recently. I hope they also learn from that for the future...the friend token thing was just not a good idea.
I also like the Stamps and hope they'll make them whatever their archivment system will be.

Re: Black Friday Sales Bring Little Joy for Nintendo in the UK

Monsti

@ThumperUK I agree with you on the whole marketing thing, but it's definitely not the only problem. The best marketing couldn't make Xenoblade a mainatream title. We're a bunch of Japan-Lovers here, but most people don't care for that look and sort of gameplay. They want western RPGs.
I still think though Mario Maker could have been that system seller. Nut timing and marketing weren't right. :/

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)

Monsti

There was a time in hollywood (between the release of Lord of the rings and about 2011) where more was always better. Now people know that longer films often drag, and they start to miss well paced films...

Gamers slowly start to understand this problem, too.
This game is just too big. The main story alone is already way too long and many reviewers point out how dead the open world feels because of its giant size. If you just want big...ok, fine. But I hope reviewers will see the problems with a game thst size soon.

Re: Shigesato Itoi Explains, Once Again, Why Mother 4 is "Totally Impossible"

Monsti

I don't understand why it has to be him. Someone else start working on it. Also, as someone already pointed out here: It's not a continuous storyline. Make the next game with different characters in a different "country" at a different time.
We're not talking about "endless sequels" here. We're talking about a series with a certain concept, style and humor that's far from having reached it's potential...there's lots more to do here.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Comeback Fire on All Cylinders?

Monsti

I liked it a lot. It had good pacing and made you feel the games you bought are just getting better (although the SMM web portal should have been there from the very beginning).
I still thinking Nintendo is lacking content and this direct won't get anyone to buy a WiiU or 3DS now, but they showed of some stuff I'm really looking forward to. I feel like there is some change coming finally...2016 might be big!

Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now

Monsti

@Cia That's the problem though. This game has no art direction. It's the most uninspired, generic look I've seen in a long time. You could have gone with the Star Fox look and stylize it, but they just took a look that's based on N64 graphics and try to modernize it on a console that couldn't do it good it enough for it to look good.
It still looks horrible and boring to me but again as long as the change the control scheme I'm fine...but it didn't sound like they did in the European direct.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's First Mobile App, Miitomo, Targets the Lucrative Depths of the Blue Ocean

Monsti

I don't really understand how this game fits the blue ocean strategy even with the definition in the text. It's an overcrowded market and there is nothing really unique about it. And I assume Nintendo will limit the crap out of what you're allowed to do and say.
I guess the app will make a couple of quick bucks for Nintendo...so fine...whatever. I just hope they know that that's all this is.

Re: Rejoice, The Wii U Has Finally Outsold Sega's Ill-Fated Dreamcast

Monsti

@BinaryFragger I agree with you in general but I also think the Wii comparisons people do aren't fair. I actually think it's a problem that even Nintendo uses the Wii as the prime example of "how it's done". That thing was an exception because it didn't sell as a gaming console. It sold as a thing that people put in their living room because it was trendy and because it was cheap and you could use it for Netflix.
I think the Wii U didn't do as bad as media makes it out but it did way worse than most Nintendo-fans want to accept.
