Well, Farewell.
Bummer
Well that's sad. Never got to play it - heard it was difficult - but Sayonara Umihara Kawase is my favorite game name ever. Guess it's also fitting now.
Sayonara Agatsuma.
I'm keeping that pic for memories, despite it's being a bit too Senran Kagura for my liking.
Rest in peace, and may nearly naked princesses with stupidly huge swords sing thee to thy rest.
That's a shame, are the games being pulled from the eShop? I wanted to get them but thought they were a bit pricey for a chance buy.
@rjejr I too thought it was a Senran Kagura pic when I first opened the article. Maybe I should actually buy YOO when it goes on sale again.
So glad that I got the special edition art book and soundtrack.
@Moon Code of Princess has been on sale several times. It's usually $10 - $15 when it's on sale.
@Fuz It was quite often on sale, actually.
Better go find a physical version of Code of Princess, meant to pick that up.
@Fuz I'm sure it will go on sale again. Maybe it will take a little time, though. Good sales have been less and less frequent on Nintendo systems, I think and the games that go on sale are largely the same in Europe for quite some time.
Disappointing, but all of the Umihara games have been published by different companies (some of which have also disappeared). They've even been developed by different companies (although the main team stays the same mostly?). Anyway, they called it Sayonara because they expected it would be the last game so this isn't a big surprise.
This IS one of my favorite game series though, so I'm going to go hang out and/or commiserate with the Mother/Earthbound fans now...
Very very sad. Hopefully Umihara Kawase will go into right good hands as I like that series.
Very sad news, loved Sayonara on the 3DS, Code of Princess not so much! They'd just put all the Umihara games on Steam, maybe this was a last effort to bring in some money?? Who knows but all the best to those at Agatsuma, here's hoping the future is bright for you all.
@scamander You folks are clearly confusing American eShop sales with European ones. Code of Princess has hardly ever been on sale for us Europeans. I remember one instance where it dropped to something like 21€, and that's about it.
I will wash my hands off these, as I have both games. I even paid full price for Kawase. No regrets, such a great game.
It looks like Nintendo has another studio they should buy up.
Code of Princess is a nice game, enjoyed it a lot. I personally think it's a better beat-em-up than Senran Kagura, gameplay-wise, story is silly however (SK after all have VN segment for story, CoP only have a short segment before each stage). Yumi's Odd Oddisey also pretty good from my short time playing it, have to finish it someday.
Agatsuma as the JP and EU (digital only) publisher. In NA, it was published by Atlus, who will probably keep printing it as long as they want, unless there's some licensing restriction.
Same with Sayonara Umihara (except substitute Natsume for Atlus)
Too bad. Code of Princess rocks!
@Moon Its a strong possibility. Then again, if the franchises get sold off to other companies, then they could stay on the eShop but if you had any interest in their games, I'd suggest not risking it and buying them ASAP
That's too bad, I played Code of Princess and I thought it was ok. Once I beat the main story mode or whatever I never went back to it.
@LinkSword No, I'm from Germany (and only have a PAL system). But if you are right I was misremembering or thought of another game, I guess. :/
Never played Yumi's Odd Oddysey, but Code of Princess was an unbelievable letdown in every aspect (especially trying to be a beat 'em up), so my regrets to see Agatsuma go are very limited.
I just know that I thoroughly enjoyed Yumi's Odd Odyssey after I gave it a real chance. It was a game that had trouble convincing me at first, but the more time I put into it, the more I saw how fun it can be. It's like a 2D Zelda game that focuses on Link using only his hookshot to solve levels and defeat enemies, and it should be played by more people. It also has an old school Nintendo hard difficulty to some of the levels (most aren't bad once you're used to the controls, but there are a few that needed a redesign to be reasonable for modern gamers to not rage quit them).
I just hope that somehow there will one day be more of those games. I just barely got into the series and now the current publishing company for it is gone
That's disappointing, I quite enjoyed playing Sayanara Kachiraverse, however that game is spelt I always forget (Yumi's Odd Odyssey is a much easier title to remember).
Its a bummer anytime they close up shop on these developers who abviously have talented people.
I never played either of those games simply because they weren't really my style. It is always a shame to see a developer go but that is the way the world works.
@LinkSword I definitely recall Code of Princess being on sale at least two times in the past year or so (around £13 if I remember correctly).
Question, now that there studio's gone (Or soon will be.) Will their games still be on sale every now and again? I still haven't bought Code of Princess yet and it looks interesting...
Guess it's just the natural way of things. Some survive and some don't.
If we download their games, who earn that money?
@World
I thought it was called sayonara because she fell off the edge all the time. At least she did when I played it
@Priceless_Spork Well, it was originally a retail game, so what do you expect? Can't you get a decent SD card for your 3DS or temporarily delete some other software if you have one that's just close to full?
While this is a sad thing to happen and hope for the best of those unpaid employees, Hopefully companies like SEGA observe this and better do something to atleast make a LOT of profit.
Sad to see a publisher go, but as far as I can tell they never developed the umihara kawase series, only published the last game so that could still continue if the devs wanted it to. Code of Princess looks a bit more complicated.
Oh, you mean the PUBLISHER of Yumi's Odd Oddysey? I was scared it was the dev studio of that series which got shut down.
A shame nonetheless
A pity for the studio, but personally I wasn't a fan of Sayonara Umikawase. The gameplay was just to fiddly.
Update: Oh, its the publisher. Not the developer!
The musics of Code of Prinsess were made by Ace+, the band who made the best musics of Xenoblade.
It's not my fault - I bought Code of Princess (even though we didn't get a physical release here in Europe).
To the people worried about the sales, and whatsoever, you need to remember that this is about the company that published both games in Japan.
In America, Code of Princess was published by Atlus (so keep expecting a sale every two weeks), and Yumi by Natsume (expect a sale once a year).
ANd that is also the reason why any copy we might have gotten means squat for this piece of news. The copies sold in a certain region brings money to the publisher of that region, As far as Agatsuma was concerned only the sales in Japan mattered.
