The latest Splatoon update has been explained in detail on Nintendo's official site, and brings with it some new gear for players to purchase.
The patch launched yesterday and also includes changes to the way in which data is displayed on ranked battle result pages, as well as some alterations to weapons and basic adjustments to ensure everything is as enjoyable as possible.
The complete notes can be read below.
New Gear
New gear has been added, which will appear in the in-game shop at random.Ranked Match Results Pages
Adjustments:
Changed the display of the results screen in Ranked Battle. Players will be listed in the order of their winning percentages in the last 10 matches for the current mode (Wins - Losses).
Previously, players were listed in the order of the number of enemies they splatted. This adjustment was made since there are other ways to contribute to the team's victory that cannot be measured in numerical terms.
The winning percentage will not be recorded in Regular Battle, Splatfest, Squad Battle, and Private Battle, so the results page will remain the same.
When the users' Ranks go up, the winning percentage will be reset.
Battle Adjustments
Fixed the issue in which the blasts from Blaster weapons don't quite reach the opponent even though the direct hit marker (x) is displayed while taking aim.Adjusted the amount of damage that rollers inflict when rolling over Splash Shields to match the amount of damage they inflict when rolling over opponents.
Adjustments were made in Tower Control so that Sprinklers placed on the towers break when they hit the ground (The Sprinklers previously only broke if they were placed on the ground and were hit by the towers)
Other
Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.
As we reported yesterday, Splatoon is also getting new maps soon, as well as an official tournament in December.

I am not sure how I feel about the new Ranked Battle Results Screen.
@pherret022
You can still see you K/D as far as I know (I haven't played the latest version yet).
What's the Splash Shield? The Splash Wall, the Bubbler, or the Rainmaker's Shield? I'm guessing it's the Splash Wall?
I know there are other ways to contribute to your team. But this is not the best way to show the results. I did reallllly poopitypoop in a game and was listed as number 1 since I was doing so well in matches before. But for that game I really dragged the team down (even though we won). I think Kill/Death ratio is a better way to list people.
Now I understand why I was top almost every time.
I don't like the results screen anymore either. I do understand there is different ways to contribute but it looks silly seeing some one go 16-4 and in last place. Most likely without that person we lose.
@zeldagaymer93 it isn't supposed to judge just one game - you can have a bad game - but maybe they should use the last 20 matches for a better sample size
"Previously, players were listed in the order of the number of enemies they splatted. This adjustment was made since there are other ways to contribute to the team's victory that cannot be measured in numerical terms."
LOL. Un. Believable.
What's next, everyone gets a participation ribbon?
Previous matches don't have anything to do with how you played the current match. How about combining splats with how far you took the rainmaker, how much turf you covered in a splat zone, how long you rode the tower etc. I hope they change this, but at the same time I guess it shows how good your teammates may be.
@vitalemrecords I understand that. But what I'm saying is I should not be listed as number 1 on my team if I did great the prior 9 matches and absolutely terrible in that one match. Same goes with the opposite. I should not be listed as "worst" on my team when my past 9 games weren't that great but during that one match I dominated and my team would have lost without me.
@Fee I agree with your system. I know they have ways of calculating that stuff so that would be ideal. Combine kill/death ratio, how much turf you inked (to help your team maneuver), and how much of the zone you capture/how far you took the rainmaker/how far you took the tower.
Think I might start playing this once again once I get the skull mask, then my character should look kool!
@gatorboi352 Idk if you've played ranked Splatoon or not, but if you have you probably know that kills alone don't win a game, and K/D isn't the best way to show how much someone has contributed to a game. In certain modes like Tower Control, there are times you need to literally jump onto a grenade to secure the objective, or at the very least stop it in its tracks. Or in Rainmaker, where hypothetically you may get a very low amount of kills if you're carrying the objective and everyone else is playing defense. With a game so heavily based on territory control, only focusing on kills instead of the objective won't always bode well.
That being said, I don't like this new system. The results screen is supposed to be for the current game, not the session. They should implement a CoD-like system where kills and objectives count as points. As it stands, it tells you very little about how you performed and how you helped your team. It only shows if you're a good player or a lucky one.
More pleasant gaming experience > more stability
The updated results screen sounds pretty good since it should encourage more people to actually do the objective instead of only going for kills.
Very excited, the game that keeps giving!! This should win gear of year but wont get anywhere near with likes of Metal Gear, Fallout 4 n The Witcher 3 getting 9's/10's.
I just love having a pleasant gaming experience!
@RupeeClock yeah.
Welp time to go try this update out
Since I don't play ranked battles, My excitement goes more to the new gears and others.
That new ranked battle results screen sucks so much :/
Old system back!!
I've only just started trying out ranked battles... stressful stuff! This is my Game Of The Year, no question. My NNID is MJFANatic if anyone is interested
Adjustments to weapons don't mean anything when enemies can still OHKO you with any weapon including side splash from a carbon roller
The new results page is no better than the old one. The old one wasn't accurate. I prided myself on getting splatted the least. I would focus on inking the splatzone from a strategic defensive point. Sure, my k/d ratio may be only like 4/1, but I know I contributed more than the guy placed above with a 5/10 ratio - the guy was re spawning half the match.
Very nice update, I'm loving the new gear! Can't wait to get more of them! Unfortunately, my shops only had one new piece of gear yesterday, so I'm hoping to get more today! The bandannas look awesome!
how about ordering it by how much ink you sprayed on the map?
"Fixed the issue in which the blasts from Blaster weapons don't quite reach the opponent even though the direct hit marker (x) is displayed while taking aim."
Wait what?! Blasters already have a big advantage in being one-shot-killers, why do they also have a direct hit marker? Makes me hate blasters even more (and also explains why they can splat you so easily).
Great update. They're doing a really good job with the ongoing work on the game.
I have been playing splatoon since launch and considering I was thrilled with the game then now it is definitively my game of the year. I haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles X but I doubt that will overtake splatoon. Change the results screen back though :/
I love the new Ranked Screen - it really represents who is good - and I'm always at the top now - but not with the most kills - it might give those folks something to think about that only go after kills
Splatoon is game of the decade!!
The game that keeps on giving. GotY? Probably.
@zeldagaymer93 chances are good that if you won 9 matches but lost one - that the one that you lost was not because of you - and besides - it is a much better metric than was used before - splatting people doesn't really help your team as much as (cough) Winning. You can still see the splats on the ranking screen - and if splats matter to you - then there you go. And if you've lost 9 matches then you all of a sudden kick butt in one match - chances are that you play poorly - and that was a fluke.
Hopefully the new rank system reduces the COD mentality, nothing as frustrating as seeing 50% of your team standing around looking to improve their KDR when you are trying to cover the Splat Zones!
Or maybe they'll finally release that the Tower in tower control doesn't actually move unless you get onto it or the Rainmaker doesn't move by itself
As much as KDR was a silly way to go about ranking, I think the Win to Loss ratio idea is even worse.
At least with KDR represented probably 50-60% of your skill (not so much if you're just camping for kills). Win/Loss represents 25% of your skill at best. I've been on so many teams where I'm destroying the other team (holding the tower, controlling zones, killing two/three team people at once, assasinating camping snipers, etc.)...and we still get destroyed because my team decides it's wise to run head first into a bunch of bubble shields, Krakens, camping roller flickers, camping Aerosprays, and snipers.
Some kind of combination of KDR and Win/Loss would make more sense to show how much YOU contributed to your team.
@zeldagaymer93 yeah! I think too that the new system sucks and the old one was good
