Another busy week has slipped by as we descend inevitably into the clutches of 2020. Things kicked off with the Nintendo Indie World Showcase which featured some cracking 'available now on Switch eShop' games such as Superhot and Hotline Miami Collection. We got hands on impressions of the upcoming Witcher 3 Switch port. Nintendo gave us a better look at three of their big upcoming releases at Gamescom in Germany. And, perhaps most unforgettably, we all got a look at the bare chests of gaming's finest physical specimens, Dr. Robotnik and Wario. Lovely!
As we've finally reached the weekend, it's time once again to sit back, relax, and chat about our gaming plans. We've done that below and we'd love for you to get involved via our poll and comment sections below. Enjoy!

I've been well and truly back into my RPGs of late, and having spent three days doing every possible challenge, dungeon and quest in Cat Quest (roll on the sequel next month), In the meantime, I'll be jumping back into one of favourite games ever in Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, as well as going back and mopping up any final quests in the brilliant South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Time to get these games wrapped up before Geralt decides to bring his monster-hunting skills to Switch in the months to come.

You know, I write these plans every week with the very best of intentions, but life gets in the way sometimes. Last weekend I managed to find time to attach screen protectors to my new DSi XL, delete the old save files on a randomly acquired Brain Training cart and blast through two tracks of Elite Beat Agents. Will I actually get to sit down with Spirit Tracks this weekend?
Probably not, because I've got back into Kingdom Two Crowns. It's a supremely relaxing experience (if you know what you're doing) that has calmed me down a couple of times this past week. It's apparently getting updated on the 29th August with new Challenge Islands - I'm not sure I can be bothered with those, but I'm more than happy to soak in the sights and poke Greed-y attackers with pikes.

The Mrs is out this weekend, so I'll be catching up on a lot of gaming! I often go through spells of replaying some old classics, so I'll no doubt kick back with a bit of Mega Man Legacy Collection and Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
I've also recently become quite partial to a good racing game, so I may boot up the delightful Horizon Chase Turbo on Switch, and if I'm feeling up to it, a bit of Gran Turismo Sport on PS4!

Earlier in the week, I upgraded my Switch. No, I didn’t rush out and buy a slightly enhanced model; I simply replaced its microSD card with a bigger one. Now that I’ve got some much-needed free space, this weekend I’m planning to download a few titles I had to previously delete off my system. One of these is Capcom’s Devil May Cry, which is close to 10 GB in size. I can’t wait to play this one, as I never really gave the original series a chance back in the day.
As for the rest of the weekend – my attention will be on the Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age demo. I still can’t believe it’s 10 hours in length and you can transfer your progress across to the full version. That’s fantastic! I’m definitely looking forward to getting my journey well and truly underway.
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave a vote in the poll above and a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

I'm travelling tomorrow so probably some WarioWare Gold on the 3DS.
This week I will be mostly playing
Breath of the Wild
Smash Ultimate
Dragon Quest XIS demo
I’m finishing up yakuza 3 on ps3 and after that I will move on to either portal 2, ratchet and clank a crack in time, neverdead, lollipop chainsaw or overlord raising hell edition.
After beating FFX, I'm going back to Fire Emblem, before getting Collection of Mana and Astral Chain next week.
Going to give the DragonQuest demo a shot.
I have just finished my first play though of Three Houses (🔵🦁) so need a break before I return.
Will try and finish off Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 but dang it’s tough in Wakanda!
Maybe I will finally give Starlink a shot
I finished Blossom Tales yesterday which surprisingly has become one of my favourite games on Switch and it only cost me £6!
I’ve started the DQ11 demo. I wasn’t planning on buying the game but it looks like that plan has changed. Such a gorgeous looking game.
I've played a lot of Smash lately but found myself missing Mario Odyssey yesterday, so I'm trying to complete it 100% right now (which is proving to be quite a challenge).
Star Ocean on my Super NT!😃
Stardew Valley, it’s sort of the screensaver of my life. If nothing’s going on, that game is on.
Also will try out the Dragon Quest demo. Never played a Dragon Quest game before but big into Final Fantasy so I’m intrigued.
Clannad and Omega Labyrinth Life.
Yakuza Zero for me. Hilarious and enormous. Also some Shadow Warrior and Skies of Arcadia probably.
Could have been Warframe among others, but I deleted it again... or rather, it deleted ITSELF again because one error during a 2 Gb update installation can still render 15 Gb unusable. And it's always the big freemiums - stuff like Gems of War and Dawn of the Breakers gets small patches almost daily and feels comfy on the very same cards. Guess I'll miss the second Nightwave after all.
Otherwise, the focus has been on BotW again lately, with Tales of Destiny and Professor Layton (the Diabolical Box one) inbetween. Also hoping to squeeze in some more Xenoblade. Meant to write "Tetris 99" here, too, but I racked up those 100 points faster than I expected - even despite a few almost instant KOs on my part.
I've downloaded the Dragon Quest demo so I'll be trying that this weekend, I'll also be playing some Pokemon.
The Dragon Quest XI demo has been calling me for a few days now, but as per the last month or so, I just can't put down Three Houses no matter what else seems to come out! Hoping I can finish at least 1 playthrough before Astral Chain drops next week...
I've become totally 'hooked' on Ultimate Fishing Simulator. It's a calming experience, but also can get quite competitive when your aiming to best your largest catch. The variety of tools is immense, though I wish there was a guide on usage. Nice pick up and play if your looking for a stress free session.
In the mood for Sonic Heroes, so I'm going to be powering up the GameCube again this weekend. Going to try and squeeze in some Tetris 99. On PC, the classic game Wing Commander Armada. Planning to play these, there may be other games too if I'm in the mood for them.
More Doom until Astral Chain and Blasphemous drop.
I haven't played any games until this thread appear, so i think i will play something Girlie / Cute such as : 🤓
1. Style Savvy Fashion Forward (3DS)
2. Cooking Mama 2 (NDS)
3. AKB48 + Me (3DS)
Maybe for next weekend i will play the opposite, something Masculine / Macho as i will get some Masculine games on next week. 😉
I've been playing Fire Emblem Three Houses constantly since getting it, now half way into my second playthrough. Also tried the Dragon Quest demo but will get into that more when I feel I can lay Fire Emblem aside for a while.
Animal Crossing New Leaf dailies and Story of Seasons for singleplayer. Maybe I'll finally get around to playing those demos I have lying around (Oninaki, Dragon Quest...).
As for multiplayer we've been on a roll with Minecraft lately so hopefully there'll be more of that. Gotta finish building that roof!
Dark souls remastered. Would like to co-op, but it seems like online is dead. Very few summon signs and when I leave a sign, almost never summoned. It's a shame really. Great game.
@spirit_flame Excellent, there's not enough puns here!
I'll be flying tonight and hope to rack up some big FE3H time on the flight.
@SterlingEyes Isn't Blossom Tales great? I am glad you enjoyed it!
@Glitchling78 What a cool phrase, "the screensaver of my life"
Still playing Mario Maker 2, that is a great great game! It is so cool to create for a while, play other courses for a while.
Just started "Far" and I am loving it! The atmospherics are amazing!
Add to that a little Rocket League and Rise.
Happy gaming, everyone!
I'm having a sports day! Snooker 19, Football Manager & Tennis World Tour!
@dugan yeah I really loved it. I’d had my eye on it for a while but feared it might just be a poor Zelda clone.
Usually by the time I’m coming to the end of a game I’m ready to put it away but I wanted more with Blossom Tales.
I finished off last week's nostalgia-fueled GB Player marathon by doing a 100% run of Zelda The Minish Cap.
Right now I'm playing through the first Devil May Cry on the Switch. I just beat normal and hard mode so I'm going to move on to DMD later today.
Paper mario on the cube. Chapter 5
Fire Emblem still for me. Has anyone else seen first party physical games are buy one get one half price on Amazon UK, Argos and Game? I've ordered Yoshi and New Super Mario U Deluxe for a bargain!
I’ll be playing dodge getting arrested at Notting Hill Carnival this weekend! Time will be tight but I want to sink my teeth into that Dragon Quest demo.
Fire Emblem naturally. Might try out my 89c copy of Superbeat too.
I'll be finishing my Black Eagles campaign in Fire Emblem. Just in time for Astral Chain.
It's all about Dragon Quest Builders 2 for me, I'm really hooked on this charming gem of a game. I really, really hope there are loads of chapters because right now I don't want it to end.
The game that keeps on giving. Mario Maker 2. The amount and quality of original user made levels is amazing.
About to finish my first playthrough of Fire Emblem Three Houses, at the supposed last battle now. Approaching 60 hours of playtime and has taken me a month to get there. Fantastic game. 10/10
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest for me
Downloaded the Dragon Quest XI S demo and was first enchanted by the visuals then turned off by the tired old male hero protecting the helpless damsel story beats, as if it was written by and for pre-adolescent boys in 1950. Echoes of an elusive age, indeed.
That, and I will probably never enjoy turn-based combat... oh well!
Also picked up Dragon’s Dogma on sale, which I’m looking forward to diving into.
Happy weekend all!
Finally Mario Maker 2!
Hotline Miami, BOTW, more MHGU and will see if I can fit in some Secret of Mana now my physical edition arrived today
Fire Emblem Three Houses, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate, for Switch. Street Fighter V, Samurai Shodown and Dead or Alive 6 on PS4.
Im still playing octopath, but gonna try that DQ demo
If you cant figure out what to play, I wrote a program that might be able to help you! Go here for details:https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/eliminate_your_backlog
I’ve been seriously hooked on Caveblazers since I got it on sale a while back. Mostly that, probably some Doom 3, and I downloaded Grave Keeper, which is pretty cool. The English translation is hilariously bad, and it’s a pretty solid game to just zone out and listen to a podcast or some Dream Theater.
Disgaea 5, SSBU and Transistor, thanks to the sale.
Unravel two, Mario Tennis, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Breath of the Wild.
DQXI S demo, only got it for the exclusive Smash Ultimate spirit but it's a very good demo so far.
F Zero X and Pilot Wings 64 today... Have connected the N64 up to the TV so might play some Extreme G also.....
I'm visiting family, but I've had time to finish up the main game of Superhot which was really fun and had an interesting story! I also played some of the Dragon Quest XI demo, and I really like it because it's looking like it's gonna save me $60! 😆
I'm trying to get as much playtime out of the Dragon Quest XI demo as possible. I'm absolutely loving this game. I was already sold on it before the demo. I'm a huge fan of the series. It's brilliant marketing to release enough of the game to really hook people in. I can't wait for the full version.
Dark Souls, of course!
Blew through the DQXI S demo already, probably try and finish my Three Houses playthrough and if I have time after that, start replaying Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon.
@Glitchling78 Haha, the screen saver of my life has been Dark Souls since it first came out years ago. What a cool phrase. I like it!
Friday the 13th: The Game - Ultimate Slasher Edition (Switch) - This game is my total guilty pleasure right now.
Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition - Still continuing my island seed.
Microsoft Flight (Games For Windows) - On the tail end of the Let's Play I've been slowly chipping away at.
iBlast Moki (Android) - It won't seem to let me redownload from the Play Store...
Hexic (Windows Phone) - I like the Xbox 360 version better, but this will do.
@BANJO I was just showing a friend of mine the glories of F Zero X! He had an N64 when he was a kid but somehow missed that one.
@Yarec123 Do you mean the Collection of Mana?
Dragon Quest Builders 2
After Fire Emblem: Three Houses came out I didn't forget it about it but wanted to jump in to FE badly. Now I'm sort of using DQB2 to clean my palette after almost 90 hours playing FE... fun part is that I'm not done with FE yet, but Astral Chain is coming... and then later on Link's Awakening. So.... fun times .
You know, I was thinking of buying Megaman Legacy Collection (1) some hours ago, but haven't decided yet because I am looking for a game that can keep me occupied until Spyro arrive to the Switch. I have been playing Mario + Rabbits but I have been losing the desire to play it after I beat the game once.
@Mr_Muscle Yes. Collection of Mana, but all 3 games this weekend might be a tall order
1. Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist (Switch) - making progress in the campaign. Still on Yugi series.
2. World of Warcraft
3. Some PS classic gaming - Alone in the Dark and Warcraft 2
4. Warcraft 3 - Some skirmish matches.
Need to get back into Octopath Traveler and finish the character paths. Also will be trying my hand at Raiden. My 6 yr old has been on a Paladins kick lately. We just keep coming back to that game. I'm all about those Overwatch/Timesplitters FPS games. I'm also impatiently awaiting the Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath release (please actually happen).
@Mr_Muscle It's a great game. I forget how good it is until I play it again and wish I had played it sooner... Epic soundtrack.
I nearly didn't get it when younger, it took a friend to bring it over one day.... I saved my pocket money at the time and managed to pick it up 4/5 weeks later...
Since I finally beat XC2 two weeks ago, I'm playing Golf Story. Also, Tetris 99, Splatoon 2 and SSBU are on the menu. On the X1 front, I'm playing Fallout 4 and Ori and the Blind Forest.
No change from my previous list since I didn't game very much this past week. That means more SteamWorld Heist, Dragon Quest IV, and some Pokemon Go at different points. I may also boot up Fire Emblem Awakening for a little while just for the heck of it.
Have a blessed weekend! Happy gaming!
Tetris 99 for the skin! And Dragon Quest XI.
@G-Boy 100% Is truly one of the harder games to complete but so rewarding!
Of course there’ll be some Smash, but mainly Three Houses... yet again. (That replay value though) Already took care of the T99 event. Might play some SMM2?
I work all weekend, but if I have time I’ll be playing Metal Gear Solid 3 again for the first time in 10 years.
The Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition demo on Nintendo Switch. Also, SUPERBEAT: XONiC and Fire Emblem: Three Houses on the same platform.
I am thinking of digging into one of my PS+ games, though. i've never played an inFamous game, so I'm thinking of starting with inFamous: First Light on PS4.
I’m so close to finishing World Of Light In Smash Ultimate. Just need to clear the final boss, and then i’m done. So, i’m busy with that. I will also be playing the Dragon Quest XI S Demo, Superbeat: Xonic, Baston, and Wipeout Omega Collection on PS4.
@nofriendo The damsel doesn't stick around past the prologue save for a few scenes. Even the "chosen hero" schtick ends up being played with and the post-game completely deconstructs the idea of a new game + feature in a really refreshing way.
1. Fire Emblem
2. Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels DLC
3. Some Madden and F1 online.
@CrimsonMoonMist
I'm both a little old (albeit very cool) lady and a feminist. Major females in DQ are rarely passive. I found the story in DQXI quite moving.
I think some who haven't played DQ games aren't used to the humour and snarkiness that identifies the series. The puns, the thinly veiled adult references are taken more seriously than intended, imo.
But I am biased, having loved all things DQ for a long time.
This weekend will be all about The Mana Collection which arrived early and to be honest I totally forgot I had it on order!
I'm determined to get that Tetris 99 Fire Emblem theme too so will be playing a lot of that.
Also started Yakuza Zero on the Ps4 so will be seeing what all the fuss is about with the series.
Oh yeah and Dragon Quest Builders 2..can't forget about that.
@CrimsonMoonMist Good to know! I thought that might be a possibility, but I found it too big a turn-off up front, and frankly, I don’t think game designers have earned the benefit of the doubt yet. Thanks for sharing!
Finally got back to Horizon Chase Turbo so I can 100% it.
Fire Emblem Three Houses.Almost done my 1st play through.
Tetris 99 and My Friend Pedro.
I finished Persona 4 Golden this week. I didn’t want it to end. I don’t think I’ve ever been so invested in a games story and characters.
But now I’ve launched with gusto into Fire Emblem Three Houses. So far it has a similarly addictive gameplay loop.
I’ve just started a family holiday but I’m sneaking in bits where I can.
I’m playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my 2DS XL, and I might buy the Yakuza Remastered collection for the PS4.
Gonna finish off the main story in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Other than that, some Tetris 99 for the theme.
yugioh legacy of the duelist: link evolution =D
Dragon quest switch. And thps1 on n64. Maybe doom64 also.
I started the Dragon Quest XI demo. My pre-ordered/downloaded Oninaki is playable this weekend too, so I will put some time into that too.
I'm enjoying Far Lone Sails in spite of it's 30fps graphics. As long as I play docked it looks like 60fps with motion interpolation/dejudder. It's an awesome game though, even though it's not very gamey, like not action based or skill based. It's also awesome because it barely has any story, mostly letting the player's imagination run wild with the music and visuals. Also playing Kingdom Two Crowns, Mario Maker 2 (always!), Breath of the Wild (docked only!), Lines Infinite (some amazing music, and good puzzles), Tetris 99, Pacific Wings (enjoying building up power ups in the demo), Baba is You, Marble It Up, and Umihara Kawase Fresh.
@k8sMum Good to get your perspective. Thanks!
it is going to be dq demo, Friday the 13th and mortal kombat 11 for switch.
Grandia, as for me!
Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest XI demo, Tetris 99, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and maybe something new from the eShop for me.
I’m happily continuing Wolfenstein Youngblood- sadly I think I’m getting to the end since I only have a few more missions left.
I tried the DQ demo yesterday and like the look of it and I’m finding the story to be okay but the voices are a huge turn off (English). It was more pleasant without my headphones. I’m finding that I dislike turn based combat in general so I doubt I’ll finish the demo and won’t be purchasing. I wanted to like it more since it’s a series everyone seems to rave about.
If I finish WY I may dive back into Celeste and/or MM2.
Tetris 99, No Man’s Sky, My time at Portia, Cook, Serve, Delicious 2, Overcooked 2
SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT.
I ended up reviewing that on Switch, so I'll definitely be digging into it this weekend! And of course, I'll be exploring the absurdly wonderful demo for Dragon Quest XI. Seriously that demo is absurdly good! Absolutely cannot wait for the full release.
@Anti-Matter Is it 1980 ? girly and macho are such outdated terms. There are no such things as girls and boys toys, there are toys which are blue and toys which are pink.
Wait... There are other games? For the past 3 weeks Fire Emblem Three Houses has eaten up all my free time
Obviously, the Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition demo, and other than that, I still can't stop playing Prime World Defenders...
Still busy the awesome Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, but may play some Octopath or Pokémon. Craving some turn based action amidst all the hack n slash. Also may get back to my Graveyard in GY Keeper, or some city building in Skylines.
Next week I need to pick up Oninaki, and a few indies like Hotline that are now in my wishlist backlog, lol.
Grandia 1 & 2 HD <3 Team Sonic Racing and Crash Team Racing ...
I played a bit of NBA Jam earlier today, it's one of those games, I'll always have a soft spot for, as I remember playing it as a kid a lot, at the local arcade. As for later on this evening, I'll probably dive back into Super Smash Bros.: Ultimate for a bit as well.
Super neptunia RPG, and some smash if I can
Continuing FFX and FE3H on Switch. I caved and picked up my first 2DS XL so starting off Ultra Sun and Xenoblade 3D.
@Yarec123 Oooh! I wonder if mine will arrive then?! I hope you enjoy the games! Have a fun weekend!
@BANJO That’s a great story! Glad to hear some love for the N64 F Zero. Agreed on the soundtrack, good stuff! Have a great weekend!
Pretty much only final fantasy adventure. Hoping to finish soon so i can try out Dragon quest demo before astral chain
Picked up Ys VIII while it was 50% off on the eshop so that has been dominating my gaming time. Will give DQ XI demo a go.
CTR and DQ XI (PS4)
It will be Bastion mostly, attempting to finish it. I ran good ol' Vice: Project Doom for old times sake-- This is a game from when they mastered the NES and it can damn near go toe to toe with a lot of "retro 8-bit" games of today. I did a little Lifeless Planet to kick it off at least, might kick off Sagebrush too. I may get to the Dragon Quest XI demo, hopefully. I'd love to kick off Lightening Force, but I just realized I got Saints Row the 3rd and Hallow Knight, so I got to fit them in. Urgh! Time, where are you...?!
I just wrapped up Doom 3 along with the Resurrection of Evil and Lost Mission add-ons last night, so I'm not too sure what to play now. I picked up Atari Flashback Classics and a Flip Grip last week but haven't felt too inspired to play it much yet. I've been thinking about snagging the HD remaster of Resident Evil while it's on sale for $20, but I kinda feel like if I wait longer it might drop down to $10 or $15 since Capcom hasn't been having the best luck on the Switch eShop.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Fire Emblem on the Switch, Red Matter and Ninja Legends on the Quest.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS4
Still playing Dragon Quest Builder 2
Fire Emblem 3 Houses. I'm in love with that game.
I'm a bit late to this, but I've been playing Paladins, Realm Royale, & the Dragon Quest XI demo. Speaking of DQXI, that game is the first turn-based RPG game that I actually like!
However, both of my Joy-Con's are suffering from Joy-Con drift and I have no other controller to use at the moment, so I may not be able to play my Switch for a while depending on how long it takes for Nintendo to fix them...
Finished Steamworl Heist which i loved and now into the Breach, which I also love. On hols in florida and picked up civilization 6 in walmart for 30 dollars so going to start on that on the plane home probs. Hooray for Switch, improving holifays since 2017!
Obsessed over Virtua Racing to win the Medium course, and despite my best intentions to start something else once I’d done it, I’m now doing the same either Expert. It’s hard - I had to get to 250 in the world just to come first, but I’m still totally addicted.
