Over the weekend, Digital Extremes hosted the latest TennoCon event, celebrating all things Warframe with the game's army of fans. There were plenty of exciting announcements and reveals, including a monstrous look at the game's upcoming co-op expansion, Empyrean.
Empyrean looks set to be Warframe's most ambitious new addition to date, with larger-scale cooperative gameplay, ship-to-ship combat, a new multiplayer Squad Link system, and customisable battleship options amongst much more. You can check out a full 40-or-so minutes of gameplay in the video above, and we've got a description for you below.
Empyrean expands the premise of Warframe by handing players and their clanmates the keys to the powerful Railjack battleship. Prepare to soar through the Origin System, explore new territory, and fight hostile forces with serious firepower! With an in-ship interface to control speed and direction, shield deployment, offensive missile volleys and gunner fire -- including the ability to deploy Archwings and infiltrate enemy ships -- players are now armed with an arsenal of tools to fend off and destroy enemy opposition. Player ships can be upgraded, take damage, and be customized, among many other things.
As well as this, two Warframe updates were shown off, both of which became available immediately. That's right, you can get stuck into these right now:
Nightwave Series 2: Nightwave is Warframe's free, rotating seasonal system. Each Series unfolds over several weeks and tells a brand new story. By completing daily and weekly challenges, Tenno will unlock limited-time, exclusive rewards (gear, cosmetics and more) while experiencing the story as they play. In Series 2: The Emissary players will meet a strange mute child (Arlo) who emerges unharmed from the Infestation and brings with him the miraculous ability to heal the sick.
Wukong Prime Access: Available to earn through gameplay or purchase, the enduring, swift and unruly Wukong Prime brings eager Tenno an enhanced version of the original for the first time ever. Everybody's got something to hide, except Wukong Prime!
And that's not all, either. The team also released a movie-quality cinematic introduction to Warframe from director, Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror: Playtest, The Boys, Uncharted). This re-imagination of the game's introductory story presents Trachtenberg's and Digital Extremes' vision of an older era in the Warframe universe and you can watch it in full below.
Phew! Lots of great stuff for Warframe players to get excited about here. Are you a fan of the game? Looking forward to getting stuck into all this new content? Tell us below.

This is the only game I play regularly in my spare time on Switch. It is absolutely vast and the Panic Button port is superb.
Even better it’s FTP and without the constant push in game for you to spend money. It’s how FTP models should be.
It has a great online community as well.
In all in my opinion it’s the best online multiplayer game on Switch and I hope this new update comes to Switch as it can only make the game even better.
Loved Warframe on xbox. Havent had time to sink proper time on switch. But wont lie. Trailer got me pumped.
Really enjoyed this on the Switch, only annoying thing is it takes up so much space on my SD and keeps growing with each update....
I really want to have time for this... But to be good and enjoy the benefits of the commr you need to be active. Means several hours per week... Just can't fit this in my daily schedule... Family first!
Back to Warframe: if you have time to spare, do it! It's awesome and the community is one of the best I have experienced in a long time!
Awesome trailer, awesome game, awesome community. Not playing it as much these days after I kind of fell in love with playing the Hildryn Warframe. Kind of removed any goals I used to have in the game, a bit odd really, but being super happy with the frame gave me less reason to play. I do still visit it every week to play a bit as the core gameplay is so great, and the Switch conversion is incredible.
Oh got nekros prime for free with tennocon
@BANJO You may need to invest in a bigger SD card, I feel you though even with my 200gig one some games can hurt lol.
@Jokerwolf Yes, put simply I do need to use a bigger SD card. I have got another 256 GB card yet to use. But I dont want to have to swap them over..... I will have to though.... it annoys me. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer..... I want everything on the one SD...
I wish there were an offline option for this game, even if it cost $60 I'd pay it. My online access is so spotty, I could never play this with other people online
I did enjoy playing warframe when it came out for switch but after about 10 hours or so i realised it was a bit too much of a time commitment for me. I only get a few hours a week on average for games so it was basically play warframe only or backlog games. If time was not an issue I'd probably still be playing it as i did like the world and the gameplay.
Warframe is as one of the other commenters stated one of the best free to play titles on Switch and it's definitely how free to play should be done . But Wow what an incredible game and easily the most played game on my Switch.
