Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls

Laxeybobby

@Dalarrun
I agree with your synopsis to an extent that is definitely not a remaster and you’re also right it’s not a direct port (like for like) for the reasons you mention. However it’s closer to a port than a remaster.
In my opinion Bandi have publicised this across all platforms as a remaster including the Switch with no explanation prior or after release on Switch as to why it’s nearer to a port than a remaster of similar standard to other consoles. No explanation as to why the buttons that annoy @alexolney so much are the way they are or why the audio is so compressed. It is for this reason I feel @nintendolife team should be approaching Bandi for an official statement or answer to some investigative questions.

I have never played a game in this series until now having purchased this. I play this game docked on my tv and the graphics quality doesn’t really bother me and I get used to buttons once I’ve played it for a short while (at the beginning of each play session I do have that getting used to period where I get them wrong).
The Audio bothers me as I struggle to make sense of it. Sounds like a pirated audio track!
The game is for me addictive due to its difficulty as I don’t like being beaten.

It’s very very unlikely that Bandi will patch anything and as such I think they are misleading Switch owners with the title and it’s marketing.

It’s ok writing these articles about issues with the game; buttons, compressed sound to the fact that nothing on the Switch version is actually remastered and it’s just a direct XBox 360 port even through it was delayed by 5 months
All creating a furores of comments about the game.
What @nintendolife @alexolney should do is some journalistic challenges with Bandi or the developers and hold them to account for the issues and report on their answers.

Re: Free Switch Demo For Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! Now Available In Europe

Laxeybobby

I downloaded the demo having read this and having owned samba de amigo on wii and before that DK Bongos on Cube.
However after a five minutes of trying to understand and then doing the calibration for the motion control joy-cons, followed by trying the single player campaign several times on easy mode, I deleted it as it was obvious it has the same motion control issues that Samba De Amigo had with the wii-motes! I found the Blue Joy Con was less responsive than the Red and once that controller missed a shake down it threw out the red controller and there followed a load of misses. The joy cons also were hit and miss (Pardon the pun) with the side tap angle action.
I even got my daughter to have a go and she duplicated the same result.
I think I'll be giving this a big miss.

Re: Reminder: Three New NES Games Are Now Available To Play On Switch

Laxeybobby

I was a young teen when the NES first appeared and as there was nothing else about that bettered 8bit games, these games back then were great and I spent many hours playing some of these that I purchased or had bought for me.
Now though these have nostalgia value, worthy of a few minutes play before you get bored with the limited gameplay/controls and options.
Ive tried all of these games and they are all now very dated. I find the sounds/music, limited gameplay options, controls schemes, basic graphics annoying and make them worthy of a few minutes play only.
I hope this service expands beyond NES.
What would be interesting @nintendolife if the original magazine reviews of these games could be located and reproduced on Nintendolife as a retro article.

Re: Arena of Valor - China's Megahit MOBA Shines On Nintendo Switch

Laxeybobby

@Lord I agree with you. I’ve tried to play this having never played it on a mobile phone. Firstly it assumes you know how to play and already understand its mechanics in terms of menus such as the armoury. Which I don’t. What tutorials it provides are so basic they’re pointless.
The load times are far too long, the controls are sluggish to respond, the gameplay is continually lagging,
The action is confusing to see and know what’s going on.
I’ve just deleted it - having just played a robot type character on a ball. I was continually killed and couldn’t seem to do anything to change that. It was also lagging to the extent that it was jumping from place to place.
I’ll stick with Paladins and give this a permanent miss.

Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)

Laxeybobby

So I have the cartridge version and have downloaded the required update, yet this game is not working correctly.
I have no ability to move through the menus at the start, right from the beginning the only button that does anything is the 'A' which obviously is the select / continue.
When the game ask me to calibrate the screen, nothing on my controllers seem to respond accept the 'A' button. When I am asked to select a difficulty level, nothing - not the sticks, shoulder buttons or the D pad being pressed up, down left or right moves anything, the only button that works is the 'A' button.
Same for choosing a save slot.
The then game starts and after the movie intro, in the wheelchair - No motion controls, just jerky stick movement.
Press the '+' button which opens the pause menu which offers options of Save, Load, Return to main menu etc and once again anything pressed on my controllers has no response accept the 'A' button that returns me back to the game.

Anyone else having this issue?

Re: Turtle Beach Confirms Massive Lineup Of Fortnite-Ready Headsets For Switch

Laxeybobby

The UK Turtle Beach website has nothing relating to Nintendo Switch.
I would like to buy a decent head set but it would need to be wireless be that with a bluetooth dongle in the audio jack or Bluetooth direct to the Switch or via USB.
It will need to work in both docked and portable mode and it needs to support chat and audio.
Trouble is there’s so many about that knowing what ones will and won’t work is a gamble. @NintendoLife could do an article covering the top 10 compatible headsets for UK and USA.
Would make the choice easier.

Re: Review: Fortnite (Switch eShop)

Laxeybobby

There is a mention of cross platform play with Xbone. How does this work?
When I’m in the lobby I see in greyed font something like Fortnite: EU, Fill With: Same platform, Play Against: Same Platform

I thought these referred to playing with other consoles but can’t find any way to change this.
My son plays fornight on his Xbone and it would be good to team up across platforms.

Re: Review: Raging Justice (Switch eShop)

Side scrolling beat em ups were my arcade bread and butter during my teens in the 80’s through to my adulthood in the 90’s.
Golden Axe series, Streets of Rage, American Ninja, Double Dragon series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Alien Vs Predator. So much so I built my own full size arcade cabinet with these and others from around the world to relive those moments.
For me I’ll be buying this.
Insanely difficult end bosses are part of what makes this genre as this was what they had originally in the arcades. This genre was always meant to be better played with a mate and more difficult in solo.

Re: You Can Now Spend Your My Nintendo Gold Points On Digital Switch Purchases

Laxeybobby

I can't seem to see how you turn these gold points into the discount to use on the eshop. Ive read the news article on MyNintendo and I had 200 gold until the switch turned 1 when I lost 102 leaving me now with 98 gold.
However I can't see a way of turning this paltry amount into a discount before I lose these at a rate of around 20 per month from now on.
Can anyone can point me in the direction of where it tells you how to use them ?

Re: Review: PAYDAY 2 (Switch)

Laxeybobby

I had this on pre-order with Game.co.uk and it was sent to me the day before any reviews were published so I couldn't cancel the pre-order once I had read the reviews. It arrived yesterday and I returned it to my local Game store today.
The lack of any voice chat was the reason this went back. I knew that the Switch doesn't directly support voice chat through the Switch but I thought it would have used the Nintendo smartphone app that Splatoon 2 uses. I don't have anyone local to play this with so would have had to play online with strangers and voice chat would have been a must.
I may re purchase it sometime in the future when Switch OS has been updated to include voice chat (Which I honestly believe will happen - probably for the launch date of the online service), and by then maybe the game itself will be patched with the up to date content. Shame as I was looking forward to this having never played it on any other format, but its not worth the £59-99 right now.
