Defiant Development has announced that its acclaimed action RPG Hand of Fate 2 will be playing its hand on Switch next week.
The game tasks players with collecting cards and building a customisable deck of equipment, enemies, encounters, and loot which all gets shuffled in with extra challenges from the Dealer. Once all of these things are combined, cards are laid out into a dungeon floor for players to navigate; each card presents obstacles to overcome, including hack-and-slash combat, exploration, high-risk high-reward minigames, and Dungeons and Dragons-style storytelling.
The original game has been downloaded over 2.5 million times since it released in 2015, and this sequel has "very positive" reviews on Steam - where it has been available since November last year. Morgan Jaffit, director at Defiant Development, has said the following about the game's Switch reveal:
"We’ve been careful not to tip our hand about this news until now, but our team is thrilled to finally announce Hand of Fate 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch. We are very much looking forward to seeing fans having the opportunity to take the game on the go with this exciting new platform.”
The game will be available on Switch on 17th July with pricing details still to be confirmed.

right on I might have to give this a look.
Seems promising merging the idea of a board game to that of an RPG, sign me up.
That's great, I liked the first game but felt it would be more fitting on-the-go. Will pick this up so long as the game runs well.
I really liked the first game, so will probably pick this up
I never played the first game but this sounds right up my alley. Not announcing a price makes me worry that it will be expensive however and I will have Octopath keeping me occupied so...
Awesome. Granted, this is another case where the release of a sequel seems to mean the previous entry isn't coming (ironically, the founding members of longer-running franchises like Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea and Guilty Gear have had more luck so far), but the first HoF is on Steam (provided Win1 can handle it) and, if push comes to shove, on PS Store. As with Nights of Azure, Pillars of Eternity and Gal Gun, I'll be definitely getting this next chapter here on Switch in due time.
Ok, this looks like an essential purchase... not sure I remember wanting something this much after only just reading of its existance.
Sorry wallet.
awesome. I liked the first one on XBO
Between this and Slay the Spire coming, I'm never putting my Switch down again.
This game looks awesome Is it digital only? Ill pick it up day one if the price is right or Ill just wait for a sale.
Loved the first one, but it was reeeeeally hard. Hopefully this one balanced out things more. I hadn't really realized there was a sequel...
I really enjoyed the little of the first game I played on Xbox One, to be honest this is exactly the type of game I have been looking for on Switch! There aren't any card based rpgs that I know of like this on the system.
This one interests me, I used to play Magic the Gathering. If this is similar I will await the review and may make a purchase
I didn't even know they made a sequel to this franchise... very excited to give this a go in a few weeks. I hope it's $19.99 or less though
Didn't know this was coming, but hoped it was. Resisted buying it for Xbone when it first came out and then again in a recent sale. Great news.
Hope it does well on Switch! The reviews made it sound interesting, but I have a lot I’m currently playing
Sweetness the switch is really becoming my dream RPG machine that I wanted it to be and this month is killing me as I can't or afford play everything releasing - best month on Switch yet
Looks good if the price is right.
this looks good to me too, will wait and see about price and review but i like what i see
I was hoping this would come to Switch, seems like the perfect fit.
@macapple @Ninja44X This isn't up on all stores yet (can't see it in the US or UK) but looking at the Norwegian eShop it currently has a 10% pre-order discount making it 186 krone or £17.49/$23.18.
Great stuff! I've actually been hoping this would come for some time now, played it on PC for a short spell but refunded in the hope switch would get it due to platform preference - next week though, wow! Can't wait!
I liked that game on PS4, definitely picking it up on the Switch.
Will pick it up if it runs well. Sounds like something I'd love.
Loved the first game on Steam. Definitely picking this up!
I might make an exception for this one and buy a digital only game, if the price is right.
@retro_player_22 Well, more of a deckbuilder style card game, but you get the idea. Combat is not resolved via stats but through action sequences.
@BionicDodo not to bad a price if it gets good reviews. Certainly will add to wish list.
@BionicDodo
thanks for that info its more than reasonable and ill definately be getting this, looks fantastic!
Thanks Bio!
That Switch trailer isn't from the Switch version is it? If it is, it looks better than expected
