I agree with everyone who talks about them needing to fix stock issues before they are concerned with other stuff(which goes pretty hand-in-hand with the idea that many buy just for the look). I mean c'mon, half the figures don't even show up on store shelves it seems and you're lucky as heck to even see them in person at all.
Because of this stock mess, it's pretty much made me not interested in amiibo at all.
@WaveBoy I sure as hell don't like them either, ha. I've tried the XL out and, though the 3D(among other features) is great, good grief it just further confirms how much of a pixel-y mess I figured it would be in comparison(got rid of my og XL in favor of a 2DS a ways back).
Majora's Mask(as an example I've used before) looks a heck of a lot better on my 2DS than it does on the n3ds XL. I, too, wish they would get rid of the region lock so I could just simply import one rather than hear the nonsense they keep babbling.
@Spoony_Tech Just as I already said, I'm not the only one to note about the XL being uncomfortable to many with smaller hands? We even have some comments on it above? I personally don't have the portability issue because I carry my systems in my bag usually, so I was addressing the concerns of others there(I -have- tried an XL in a pants pocket of mine, when I originally got one, and while it was fine I can definitely see how it'd be too snug for someone else).
As for the second part, it doesn't require a college degree to get that when the res used for a smaller screen is just thrown onto a bigger screen like they've done, it stretches out. I've even tried out the XL and can personally say that Majora's Mask looks a lot better (crisper, etc.) on my 2DS screen, as one example. This isn't even accounting the 3D, which makes the pixels even more noticeable. If only I had eyes like yours that take even the most horrid screens and adjusts them to look great...
@Donutman You must have only listened to like 5 complaints total then? Numerous posts about the XL have pointed out its portability issues, and what about people who have hands a bit smaller than you? The XL just isn't comfortable for many to hold for that reason - just as you apparently have bigger hands and find the XL better for comfort, not everyone has adult-sized hands, ya know?
Along with that, the system has the same res as the smaller model, which means the picture is just stretched the heck out. It's bad enough the res is pretty crappy on a smaller screen(making it at the least a lot crisper than the XL), but that pixel-yness on the XL model really is annoyingly distracting. I'm far from the only one who has noted this as well.
The faceplates, while still a valid complaint for the lack of, are just one part of the bs that is the mess NoA has been getting itself into lately.
People acting as if this is another act of 'Nintendo is always right!' is just as "annoying" as you feel the supposed hate is.
@CanOn-CanOff I can only hope that that reasoning has some legitimacy(this is NoA we are talking about, heh...). :-l They likely just kept the XL intact because it is the XL size still...you did see that reply we got yesterday where they felt the random need to give relevancy to the original standard model(despite the fact that dang near everybody has confirmed that the model is next to impossible to find at retails due to discontinuation or whatever and isn't even advertised on the official site)? They are making less and less sense the more they supposedly try to explain.
@JasonHadouken The 2DS is very comfortable to hold...feels a lot more natural, as well, than that clamshell stuff if you ask me. It's one of those little reasons I feel kinda weird about wanting a n3ds, because I would have to go back to that. If they came out with a n2DS model(doubtful), I'd be all over that. Then again, an ideal model imo would be something similar to the 2DS design(although a bit more 'carry around' friendly) w/ 3D and the enhancements of n3ds.
No surprise that they keep making even less sense as time goes on.(where is the OG standard on their site even, anymore, if they're seemingly wanting it to be a relevant choice?)
@Mk_II Then, as noted above by others, why not just rid of the OG standard model(which already seems to be the case as mentioned numerous times) and replace that with the new standard, if they are indeed going to somehow claim that the (old) standard is still relevant as a choice?
ETA: Or just sell it online as others have suggested as well?
@TingLz I guess it would at the very least be a lot -less- confusing than 'new' 3ds XL. Asking for a 3ds pro would better end up with you getting what you want than asking for a 'new 3ds XL' but someone very easily mistaking that for a new (older) '3ds xl'. <-- good grief, heh.
@HeyChrisA @Jepze I'd snap up Waluigi, too, if he were released in amiibo form. And this is from someone who hasn't really given a crap about amiibo since this whole stock mess, haha.
@Turniplord Apparently it had troubles still emulating GBA? Notice how the GBA ambassador games don't load like regular VC and the ambassador NES games?(can't 'stall it' by going to the home screen and such)
Okay, like others above, Lego Jurassic World has definitely piqued my interest. One of my favorite movies was the original JP and I'm going to see JW when it releases.
@BlatantlyHeroic I can see where you are getting at, but wouldn't it be a catch 22 anyways? I mean, alongside a number of families having multiple consoles in one order, it opens the doors for scalpers to order like 3 million consoles a piece(who would probably notice it before many families would), and plenty of families likely wouldn't get theirs anyways... :-l
And ditto about the covers...
@JellySplat That probably would've been a little more fair in a scenario like that I suppose.
@SavoirFaire What's funny about that is that they are 'fighting for shelf space' yet many of the damn things aren't even appearing on the shelves to begin with, heh. :-l
@k8sMum I guess I'll add onto the kinda randomly amusing cereal convo then. I love Corn Pops myself. And 'hot chicks in bikinis'? Nahh, they can stay on the beach.
@rjejr There are also people out there who can't see 3D anyways, not just kids? In that sense, it can be considered gimmick-y. It's just a cheaper alternative model anyway you look at it, for anybody really. And, despite the likeliness of stock not being ready before, you can consider the launch of the 'new 3DS (XL)' being so soon after the holidays as a reason to burn down N HQ in that case.
That whole 'we have a 2DS' is also a poor excuse if they really want to use it, considering EU got the standard model. That's pretty frickin' laughable actually.
Well it's on them really if my money means nothing to them; I'll be content with my 2DS for the foreseeable future, as I have no interest in the 'new XL'. Will definitely make a call though to give my own direct input soon-ish.
@rjejr Then it seems a bit strange that, even if they would only focus on that and the 2DS, the latter hasn't gotten word on any kinda upgrade...maybe they could actually -somewhat- right this wrong(for now). I'm not even a kid and, 3D aside, I find the 2DS form to be highly superior to the clamshell design(though it's pretty silly to say the 2DS is the kiddy model anyways, imo). Even 'kids' would want to have access to any further exclusive games and such coming out.
@KillScottKill Agree with that post. The XL is pretty much a pixel-y mess imo. The new standard seems to apparently hit a sweet spot in size when it comes to that.
This kinda stuff is sad really...when you have this many requests for something like this, you know something is wrong with this method of handling things. They just never seem to learn lately...
@Caryslan Despite liking the 3D so the enhanced 3D had me hopeful, I have to agree with you there a lot. I got rid of my original XL and got my sea green 2DS and have been gaming on that since and would love if they brought out a 'new' 2DS. It's the very least they could do if NoA wants to screw us over by not offering the standard n3ds model that -everyone else- gets.(it would also make more sense to allow 2DS owners to enjoy the new games and such if they really aren't planning to release the standard anymore for whatever stupid reason).
The 2DS is very comfortable to hold and I kinda hate the clamshell design, among other things, so a slight screen size increase like the standard n3ds(since the og 2DS and 3DS are the same as well) along with the other enhancements and I'd be set for a n'2'DS.
(Though my -ideal- desire would be a system with the 2DS form but with 3D, ha)
There should've been a 'sticking with my current 2DS' option in the first poll, heh(or just lumped in with the same option for original 3DS).
Either way, because of the lack of the standard model of the n3DS(along with everything that personally makes it better), I have no interest in upgrading to a 'new' model for the foreseeable future. 2DS love all day e'ryday it is then!
@JaxonH The whole positivity/negativity thing was more a general statement on my part, too, to put that out there.
I know some internet people are probably doing this for the heck of it, but I know (of) people who are actually calling NoA to ask questions about why it isn't making its way here.
It's a shame that we at least weren't given some kind of ambassador promotion like EU with the standard though. Can't even import a model because of region locking(which would've lessened the blow). :-l
@JaxonH The XL is only better in that it is easier to see, if we're only talking the screen size(which also makes the pixel-y mess that is the same res easier as well, which ruins it's appeal otherwise personally). The new standard also appears to have found more of a sweet spot with size in that regard because it is bigger than the original's screen.
And this is ignoring blatantly questionable decisions regarding the N3DS such as missing out on face plates, etc.
Blindly looking at only positives and not addressing potential issues(that have next to -no- good reason stated for them at that) is just as bad as only looking at the negatives.
As @ShikabaneHime13 said, it's almost amusing in a way because EVERYONE ELSE gets it but NA, despite the XL pretty much selling better elsewhere as well. N may as well have not released the standard at all if popularity was an issue, which further calls out the poor excuse given.
Ah well I suppose. -If- we for some bizarre reason don't get the standard, any exclusives can wait for the next gen then(since they tend to keep bc).
As someone already pointed out on the forum, do they not actually read over these kinda statements before putting them out? It makes no sense at all really...I mean look:
"Different territories make their own business decisions regarding individual products and timing. We think New Nintendo 3DS XL makes the most sense for our market. Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers, and New Nintendo 3DS XL simply expands those choices even further."
So, by limiting us to the XL and not giving us the option for the standard -at all-(as of yet), our choices are expanded? Unless that 'simply' is put in there to mean 'expand, but just a little', it is doing the exact opposite.
I guess my 2DS will apparently be getting more use until we hear a further announcement(-if- we do), because they clearly aren't interested in my(and others') cash. :-l
@Ps4all There actually is a way(think because there actually is a link now with NNID and stuff), but it's a bit of a hassle and it appears you lose your saves and plaza puzzles, etc., so likely isn't worth it if you have a ton of stuff.
As for the trade in, it might depend on your employees but, when I traded one of my old in before at a nearby town's GS, they let me buy the new system for the trade-in difference and allowed me to transfer my stuff but I ofc had to do a transfer while at the store(so you'd need internet access obviously). It probably was a rarer exception and who knows if I could do it again, but there are some people like that out there.
Looks like I may hold out on buying a new 3DS after all, if I bother(will have to see later releases). Why couldn't they at least given us an Ambassador option, so they wouldn't have to pump out to the masses if they so chose not to? Can't even bother importing one because titles won't be compatible due to region lock, etc.
This really sucks because it is the one I have been wanting for the face plates, etc.(it also seems to be a sweet spot in screen size). I'm really not that interested in the pixel-y-ness of the XL, so eh. :-l
Loved the direct but this was disappointment.
@Spoony I never understood the whole 'can't fit in your pocket thing, unless you either have no pockets or are wearing super tight pants/skinny jeans. I wear regular sized jeans and stuff and have even gotten my 2DS into a pocket(though that is a little snug and won't happen regularly ofc).
Speaking of 2DS though, I wonder why people are so against it. I personally feel the 2DS design is far superior than the 3DS. If the 2DS had the same design as now, but with 3D and the bits of the 3DS, I'd snap that up in a heartbeat. I do not care for the clamshell design, particularly after how comfortable it is to use my 2DS.
@dereq That's the issue I have about stuff like this. It puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on the person on the receiving end of the proposal to do it so frickin' public. :x
@Vineleaf I managed to snag a sea green 2ds as well, during that sale they were having. While it was a pain to find this specific color, it is pretty. The layout is great and really comfortable...better than the clamshell. The design also appears to make it so the screens feel more normal-sized, if that makes sense; I mean, despite having the same sized screens as the original, they don't look tiny, whereas looking at the OG 3DS and they do. .-.
Anyways...considering picking up a blue one of these.
@ikki5 Aren't Euro gamers also able to (even if it'll be a little costly?) import an Aus N3ds when it hits down there next month, and I mean actually be able to make use of it normally, because of it being PAL?
Eta: Apparently so. I knew I remember it being mentioned elsewhere. D:
Either way, I'd like a Halloween theme. Holiday themed stuff is always a little amusing.
Being a fan of the previous games, and having been waiting for this for some time, this is a nice little confirmation for me. I guess it also helps that I don't have a 300 million game backlog/list-to-buy, so the price isn't much of a bother to me. Can't wait to pick this up.
Even though tomorrow is just under a couple of hours away, it seems like forever...just a matter of what time the distribution starts. (midnight...I mean I can dream right? XD)
This commercial does have some...pizazz. I like it.
@rjejr Too bad the option wasn't at least given. I mean it isn't like us 'boring' adults couldn't keep the dull default shell.
I guess it would eat into the regular-sized one's sales because people would just go for the bigger model, which would be essentially the small + added size(not really that great anyway because the same res is kept); unlike the 2DS' design, the 'kids' model wouldn't have much of an identity, outside of the colored buttons(like you pointed out, but using the old 3DS).
So Aus and Japan are getting the new 3ds this year(and apparently EU users can make use of it if they are able to import one) and EU is getting the transparent ORAS 2DS models...
Would be nice to see if NA could get a surprise hardware announcement as well. :-l
@Einherjar Take a look back at comment #81, if you really don't see. You could've stopped after you pointed out @MorriganIsHot 's post, but instead went onto some semi-lengthy, - whiny - rant about how ridiculous you think some others are being over this.
I had no intentions of getting into a little argument over it though, so I'll leave it at that, just giving you what you asked.

Re: Gamer Proposes To Girlfriend During Mischief Makers Speedrun Livestream
@dereq That's the issue I have about stuff like this. It puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on the person on the receiving end of the proposal to do it so frickin' public. :x
Re: Weirdness: Jimmy Fallon Missed Out On Dating Nicole Kidman Because Of Super Mario Bros.
@Porky Ain't that the truth? Hurhur
@andrea987 XD
Re: Video: Nintendo Releases Two Snappy amiibo TV Commercials
Surprisingly, I just saw one of these commercials on last night, ha.
Re: Announcement Of "Delta Episode" Brings More Legendaries & Additional Story Arc To Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
One more week... .-.
Re: Transparent Blue and Red 2DS Models Hit North America on 21st November
@Vineleaf I managed to snag a sea green 2ds as well, during that sale they were having. While it was a pain to find this specific color, it is pretty. The layout is great and really comfortable...better than the clamshell. The design also appears to make it so the screens feel more normal-sized, if that makes sense; I mean, despite having the same sized screens as the original, they don't look tiny, whereas looking at the OG 3DS and they do. .-.
Anyways...considering picking up a blue one of these.
Re: Weirdness: If Super Smash Bros. Was a WWE game, It'd Be Terrifying
...the hell? XD
Love how Wii Fit Trainer comes in to help Mario up, only to low blow him. Someone's upset...
Re: Nintendo of Europe Distributes Free Halloween 3DS HOME Theme to Club Nintendo Members
@Webby-sama Yeah, it seems, but the cat one isn't free here, heh.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Distributes Free Halloween 3DS HOME Theme to Club Nintendo Members
Re: Review: Shantae And The Pirate's Curse (3DS eShop)
Being a fan of the previous games, and having been waiting for this for some time, this is a nice little confirmation for me. I guess it also helps that I don't have a 300 million game backlog/list-to-buy, so the price isn't much of a bother to me. Can't wait to pick this up.
Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version US Distribution Details Revealed
Got my email a while ago and it's finished downloading, just haven't started yet.
@Iggly Nah, you have plenty of time to redeem. May 31st is when you'll have 'til.
Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version US Distribution Details Revealed
@Aquilalex So are you just going to let it rot?
Re: Shantae and the Pirate's Curse Launch Trailer Whips Into Action
Been waiting forever, so picking up asap, ha.
@Grimlock_King Ikr... :-l
Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version US Distribution Details Revealed
Even though tomorrow is just under a couple of hours away, it seems like forever...just a matter of what time the distribution starts. (midnight...I mean I can dream right? XD)
Re: Junichi Masuda Talks Pokémon Snap and Listening to Fans
I'd definitely be interested in another Snap game. It seems like something that would definitely be a fit for the Wii U.
As far as spin offs that I'm really waiting to hear about though, have been waiting a bazillion years for a new Colosseum/XD entry... :-l
Re: This Castlevania Super NES May Be The Spookiest Console Yet
@AVahne I thought it was a cake at first, too, ha. It does look really nice either way.
Re: Video: Japanese Commercial For New 3DS Highlights Those Fetching "Kisekae Plate" Covers
Re: Almost 50 Different System Themes Revealed Prior To New 3DS Launch
@TCGiceman595 I'll be picking up my Umbreon theme then.
" loading="lazy">
Too bad no word on the nexr Golden Sun theme. Would love a theme for that.
Re: Nintendo Direct: New Nintendo 3DS Models Coming to Australia and New Zealand on 21st November
So Aus and Japan are getting the new 3ds this year(and apparently EU users can make use of it if they are able to import one) and EU is getting the transparent ORAS 2DS models...
Would be nice to see if NA could get a surprise hardware announcement as well. :-l
Re: Nintendo Unveils Transparent 2DS Models and Pokémon Bundles
Now this is something I could get behind, should it arrive over here.
@Vineleaf My Sea Green 2DS just arrived a few days ago(the standalone was sold out everywhere in stores around) and it really is pretty.
Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.
@Inkling As interesting as those would be to hear, doubt it. I find the uses of that defence pretty amusing though. XD
Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.
