After today's surprise news of the discontinuation of Club Nintendo, the North American version has had its regular monthly update, but with a bit of a difference. Though coins can only be earned in the region until the end of March, redeeming those coins is possible until the end of June. After a period where the website was down for maintenance, the Club Nintendo rewards page has been updated with a new set of downloadable games, all pegged as available until 30th June.
This batch has the now-standard eight games, with four - as always - across Wii U and Wii and the other half available on the 3DS eShop. It's a Virtual Console lock-out, too.
- Super Mario Bros. 2 — 200 coins (Wii U Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- Excitebike — 200 coins (Wii U Virtual Console) and awarded 7/10 in our review
- Super Metroid — 250 coins (Wii Virtual Console) and awarded 10/10 in our review
- Super Punch-Out!! — 250 coins (Wii Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- Super Mario Land — 150 coins (3DS eShop) and awarded 7/10 in our review
- Donkey Kong — 150 coins (3DS Virtual Console) and awarded 9/10 in our review
- Wario Land II — 200 coins (3DS eShop) and awarded 9/10 in our review
- The Legend of Zelda — 200 coins (3DS Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
As mentioned above these are all available until the end of June and you can check them out on the Club Nintendo site. Games listed above for Wii U Virtual Console are only available on the latest home console, while those listed as Wii Virtual Console can only be downloaded from the Wii Shop on the system itself or on the Wii U via the Wii Mode.
At the time of writing the physical rewards are unchanged, and it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo of America delivers in the next few months to tempt regular members to clear their coin balances. A statement on the site promises "dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items" to come in February.
Those are the latest download game options, then, so let us know if you plan to spend any of your coins on these games in the poll and comments section below.
Which Club Nintendo reward will you download first? (322 votes)
- Super Mario Bros. 2

I haven't tried to play a Wii Virtual Console game on my WiiU yet. That is possible, right?
Definitely some good games this month, but since I could just buy these if I wanted to, I'm just going to save my coins for, hopefully, some good physical rewards. Fingers crossed for a Tropical Freeze soundtrack!
I was always hoping Zelda 2 would come up as one of the games to download. I will just have to buy it one of these days.
I just tried to sign in to my UK Club Nintendo account, out of curiosity, and it seems to be down at the minute. There's currently no mention of it being discontinued, but that's probably what they're doing I guess, I'll check back later. I quite liked Club Nintendo, or at least the idea of it, but I'm very intrigued about what's gonna replace it!
Will be waiting for the other months.
@Undead_terror These are the ones available until June 30. One more set of games coming in February to go with these, and that's it.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. They are going to announce some more digital games in February, but then that's it. So if you don't own these games, and you have coins, DOWNLOAD SOMETHING. 42% of you saying nothing is just silly. THEY ARE FREE GAMES. YOU CAN'T USE COINS FOR anything else.
I'm going to wait to see what else is offered in February, but I have enough coins to pretty much buy everything. It's free, so why not.
It's for January, in February they will put the last games, the warning it's in the main page of Club Nintendo (US).
The only game here I don't have is Excitebike, but considering more are on the way for February and I only have 200 coins, I'm gonna wait it out and see what else is offered.
Ah yes, just read that message on the site (I thought it would be the same as one I read this morning UK time) so will update the article.
I hope they bring something good in Feb. Nothing for me yet
Since these games will be available until the end, I will just wait. Maybe I will get Wario. I already ordered a 3DS game case.
I may grab Super Metroid if i don't already have it. ...pretty sure I do. I have the rest though for the home console and I just don't play my 3DS enough to use the points on it just yet.. I'm gonna wait and see what else comes and make my decisions closer to June. If nothing else my nephew is gonna get a few free games for his Wii U.
According to the banner, more rewards are coming in February.
Don't stress about buying anything now. They specifically put up that DOZENS (yes, plural) of digital games will come in Feb in addition to these. So unless you don't have super metroid, you're better off waiting until then to decide what you want.
The US press release specifically stated there would be "a number of physical reward options" in February so I will be eagerly waiting for that. I will have about 2000 coins to blow probably after digging out all the codes I've been saving. I have never spent coins on a digital game, I already have the ones I want...that's how I got the coins in the first place.
Wii Virtual Console? LOL
Well. I already have ALL OF THESE GAMES as usual. Sigh
Looking forward to whatever replaces Club Nintendo.
I've still got a few coins to earn, so probably Super Punch-Out, and then wait until February for the rest.
Physical rewards in February? Think I'll wait.
I'm going to wait and see what they roll out in February. These are apparently going to be available until the end of the program, so if I change my mind, they'll still be there.
@mystman12 Oh man a tropical Freeze soundtrack would be fantastic!!!
I got Super Metroid on emu. So I won't be needing it. Sadly.
Everyone should get Super Metroid. It's one of the best videogames ever made and the one that all artists aiming to be a game developer should take inspiration of. I already have it so I think I would take Wario Land II and Super Punch-Out, yessss.
I have enough coins saved up to download the whole list but I already have 2 of the titles and I won't download any more wii only titles.
Probably just gonna wait and see what comes in February. These games will still be available then, anyway, and I don't need any of them right away given I'll be working through Mario Galaxy 2 and the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the next several weeks on Wii U. I do plan to download Wario Land II eventually, though. Already own Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!, and Mario Bros 2. Not that interested in the rest.
Why theres no super gameboy support.
Donkey Kong 94 looks so much better on it.
But yeah, will be waiting for February to see what we get.
Only game I want from here is Mario Bros 2 and because its the only Wii U title. I don't like to boot up Wii mode to play Virtual Console games
I had that suspicion the second I saw the 9$ charged to my account for Super Metroid last week...that this would happen
Main problem I have had with coin games since the start. I have all of these and any other decent to great game that has been offered.
Meanwhile, in UK... Pikmin keyring. Seriously? CN, give us some games on VC-WiiU we can get with our stars, come on, at least the last few months!
I'm going to wait to see what they offer in these next few months. I own most of the games on this list that I'm actually interested in.
Dammit, I own all of these!
How about letting us buy eShop credit with our Coins?
Nope. Wario Land looks tempting, but I'm waiting it out.
I actually don't have Excitebike yet and I've wanted to pick it up for a while....but I'm waiting to see what gets released next month.
I actually have two accounts (don't ask, not happy about it). One account is Platinum and I need only 45 more coins to get to Gold on the second account. I need a nice family member or friend to let me have an unused code!
The physical rewards will only come in February? If so I'll wait then and just use up all my coins on whatever comes out.
Getting Super Metroid and Super Punch Out! this month
Thanks to all the comments, I bought Donkey Kong '94, and you guys were right, SO WORTH IT.
@technotreegrass
so is it like donkey kong land or like donkey kong nes or arcade
Waiting for February and see what they have
@XCWarrior I voted 'nothing for me' because I have all of these game. So I'm hoping for offerings that I don't own, or some physical goodies to crop up.
@andrea987 I'd personally love a Pikmin keyring. We do get decent digital download offerings here in the US. But I've often been envious of the physical goodies you get offered (like the scarf with Hyrule Warriors purchase).
A missed opportunity for digital Wii games. I'd pick up the Metroid Prime Trilogy for 500-800 coins.
I might also pick up Zelda for the 3DS. Too bad there isn't crossbuy because I have the Wii, Wii U, and original versions of LoZ.
They couldn't even offer the Super Metroid Wii U version..............smh
Waiting to see what final offers come next month. These current ones will run alongside the new ones until the program closes. Dozens of new choices next month and there's bound to be a few things I'd like.
It's important to stress that next months tears, as far as it's worded, are the last ones. There's no point in keeping unused coins/stars since they expire along with Club Nintendo, so i anticipate (after hopefully picking up a couple physical rewards) downloading a number of games I'd normally pass up just to spend the coins.
I still want my platinum reward. (whether if its just a game or a physical reward.
@ThomasBW84 So would it be smart to register all of your games before Club Nintendo ends, or save them for the next loyalty program?
This doesn't help spend the coins that are going to disappear. All of these have been on there before.
@Oaf7724
The new loyalty program may not even use these codes as these are "CLub Nintendo" Codes
If February doesn't bring anything good that I don't have already, I'll pick up Wario Land 2. REALLY hoping for Doc Louis's PunchOut!! to make a comeback.
I have everything but Super Punch Out so might as well get it while I can.
I've been needing to play Wario Land II!
It said in the page "Dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items will be added to the rewards catalog in February".
I'm waiting for the limited reward items!
But I really need Wario Land 2 xD
For the home consoles, I already have all of those games which is disappointing. I'd like to see some N64 games in the mix but my confidence is rather low. I just want Wave Race 64 or any a means to convert my coins to Wii Points so that I might be able to grab a few games for non Nintendo systems. I'd like to get Last Blade 2 for my classic Wii or other options.
Oh well. All I can do is hope for the best.
Man I want Super Punch Out but since it is only for Wii I would have to pay for it to be upgraded to a Wii U version, which is what I would prefer. I understand why they did it but after waiting for this game to be put on here for quite a few months I am a bit disappointed. The games already cost too many coins in my opinion and the fact that I would have to pay money as well doesn't have me tempted to get it.
Suppose I'll wait to see what the "limited quantity of exclusive reward" items are in February; saving my coins 'til then.
Disgusting.
I'll wait for February!
Wow. i used all my coins to get my little sister the smashposters...does anyone have any to spare???
I'll save my coins and see what we get over the next few months. Hopefully i can nab a new physical reward.
I own every single one.
I hope I'm not disappointed in February. I have over 1300 coins and am at platinum.
Actually, I rather like these! Since these will be here until the end of June I'll wait to see what comes in the next few months.
Dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items will be added to the rewards catalog in February. That sounds pretty good.
I'm waiting until next month.
I may grab super metroid. I know with wii nes virtual console games if u own them on wii u can redownload them on wiiU for $1 I'm hoping its the same discount for snes games.
@thaantman
Snes games are $1.50
@XCWarrior initially my plan was to burn up my coins on dowbload games, but I, and I think many others, are holding out for physical rewards bc it seems from what nintendo has said there will be some new goodies.
@Oaf7724 My understanding is that the registration codes will be useless after March 31, that they won't count for the next loyalty program. Nintendo's FAQ about it isn't entirely clear about that but that's what it sounds like. It says be sure to register all your codes and take all surveys by March 31.
holding out. hoping to get some cool physical thing and one of the games available to elite members. the physical rewards will probably end up being rare collectibles, with the added bonus of being harder for scalpers to get their hands on lol
@andrew20 It's like Donkey Kong arcade/NES, borrowing some of those level designs, but after a few stages, there's close to 100 original stages.
Wait, I'm confused. are these rewards going to stay up till June and no other rewards will come? Or are they just going to keep giving out rewards ever month until Club Nintendo's judgement day?
Really? 50% of the people are not going to get anything? This is such a great line up of games though! I'm going to be having trouble deciding which ones to spend my coins on.
reallly? stop giving out trash nintendo!
I done own all the Wii u and Wii games, and I don't even own a 3ds console yet so I won't be getting any of those's.
But What I was wondering is I have 2 mario 25th anniversary Wii console never been opened can I enter them on my account to get 100 points each for them so I can reach platinum? Or would I get nothing for them since I done have a Wii entered on my club nintendo account?
All of these are great selections...but I own most of them already. Im hoping February brings some knock out selections cuz I have a boat-load of coins to spend...
@Swiket ROFL That's been almost every month for quite a while. Here's to hoping the platinum rewards are decent.
They shot themselves in the foot saying February will hold lots of good stuff. I'm holding out just for that because I'd rather not be kicking myself later when something really good has to be missed.
@XCWarrior: I own all 8 games, so what now? I have 1770 coins. They should have an option to convert your remaining coins to currency to be used on the e-shop for games you actually want and/or don't already have in my opinion.
@jgibson75 That's probably one of the best offering. I mean, ringtones, seriously?
Nice list, although I already have all the 3DS games. Still, anyone who wants to get these games, and does not have them yet, should do so now — all 8 are worth getting, especially if you have coins to spend.
I agree with KnightRider666 — no matter how many coins are left over, Ninty should convert them over to some sort of credit, rather than cancelling them outright. Those retaining thousands of coins shouldn't just have them disappear in a snap if Club Nintendo's final offerings aren't enough to spend them on. >_>
I want super punch out, but it won't work unless yoi have a classic controller.
Guess this is a good time to finally play Wario Land II, and then play 3 and 4 sometime later.
Just downloaded Super Metroid! Ahh...I love this game. I just love the SNES all together. What a great console! Graphics, music, gameplay, and the memories it triggers. A well spent 250 coins!
@GreatPlayer spend the 30 dollars on a classic controller. Trust me, it's worth it. Just think of all the classic gaming you can do once you get one.
I'd been contemplating the SMB/Zelda game case, and upon chancing this news I hoped to get one, but lo, all sold out, alongside the SMB/Pikmin case and the T-shirt. The cases are running $20+ on eBay, too...
Well, here's to hoping I get in on some physicals. A co-worker has that yellow-on-black SMB carrying pouch thing (sack?), though worn, but still neat-o. At the least, make Super Metroid the Wii U eShop version?
EDIT: Oh, could you imagine if that Doc Louis's Punch-Out!! tie-in game was available via coins? Physical rewards, you can find on auction sites, but download codes? A rare commodity, and a shortcoming of digital distribution when supply is suddenly cut off.
@jj87 I have a Xbox controller on my PC and I can get the game on my computer too?
@andrea987 Yeah, the ringtones are a lame offering. Who doesn't know how to get free ring tones in this day and age.
@GloryQuestor
@KnightRider666
Weird to think that you get a FREE giftcard (that's basically what stars/points are) and you then start demanding that whoever gave it to you has some kind responsibility or debt to endlessly extend that giftcard for you.
Announcing this 8 months in advance + a still updating catalogue seems very generous but some people always want more.
@Reusinck I'm not thinking of myself, as I definitely do not have thousands of coins. For those that were loyal enough to have that many coins, however, shouldn't said loyalty at least be compensated if what Nintendo offers in the last days is not enough? (We also don't know if Club Nintendo might already have such an offer lined up...)
@Gloryquestor
I find your post a bit confusing. Loyalty is compensated now, and for the next 8(!) months right? There are quite a number of options in the catalogue, for a wide variety of coins/stars, i spend all my coins on VC games for example, i could also have chosen for lots of other things, and there even will be new items added! So why does Nintendo need to do more? Seems like a really fair solution to me...
Sounds like people are just complaining that they don't want anything Nintendo offers, too bad for them, but we are talking about free stuff here as a token of graditude. Complaining about that is just acting spoiled.
