Switch 2 Footage Is Coming Out Of Gamescom, And It's Looking Tasty

Gamescom 2026 is underway following yesterday's Opening Night Live show, and footage from the various Switch 2 games playable at the show is starting to surface online.

There are plenty of outlets putting out videos, including direct and off-screen capture — Alex from our video team is in Cologne, so look out for more soon — but let's stick with a couple that grabbed our attention.

Firstly, VGC has nearly 10 minutes of docked Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay footage, which seems to be running admirably on Nintendo's system given everything that's going on. The usual caveats come into play with what appears to be 30fps and a lower resolution compared to the monolithic home consoles, but it's looking extremely playable ahead of its October release.

VGC also has some Mega Man: Dual Overdrive gameplay up, too. It's been a fantastic year for Capcom and it's looking like that might well continue into 2027.

Elsewhere, the lovely Jon Cartwright — formerly of this parish and now with the fine team over at Good Vibes Gaming — has burned through a number of Switch 2 demos and captured off-screen footage of games including:

007 First Light (which has expected cutbacks and is using some heavy DLSS, but seems to have been optimised nicely)
Metaphor: ReFantazio (less impressive, though it ran smoothly)
and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (decent, though "it can sometimes give off the look as if it's being streamed")

Jon also plays Mega Man: Dual Override ("I had a brilliant time") and gives his thoughts on Nintendo Switch Sports Resort (Bowling and Thumb Wrestling, specifically). Give the video above a watch to see how these games are shaping up pre-release, and for JC's first impressions.

So, while the familiar restrictions still apply, it's great to see developers really putting in the work to turn out great, playable handheld versions of the biggest games going. (See also: Elden Ring.) Exciting times for Switch 2 owners!

From what I watched with Dragons Dogma 2 and 007, I am thoroughly impressed. Graphical downgrades are expected, but the essence of what make these great games appear to be intact.

I might be getting a little nitpicky as I get older, but hearing people say the Switch 2 versions are 'compromised' is starting to rub me the wrong way. Perhaps its my own interpretation, but using those words sound like the game is broken. Far from it!

Regardless of my opinion on that topic, im really looking forward to their releases.

Im also getting less forgiving of Borderlands 4 being put on ice when I see how well other games seem to be playing on the Switch 2.

Ugh, more framerate crap. If a game reliably runs at 30 fps or above and you're not a professional gamer and you still care about the game's framerate, it's not a good game. If the game isn't fun enough that you're preoccupied with fps numbers, just drop the game, because it's obviously not for you

Good to hear (watched the footage only here and there as I don't have the time for it now and I'd also rather see it when I play these games myself), glad especially for First Light considering that they delayed it exactly to properly optimize it - looking forward to more Gamescom articles here on Nintendo Life whenever they're ready!

I’m really looking forward to First Light on Switch 2! I'm fully aware it'll have some graphical downgrades and probably reduced crowd density compared to home consoles, but having a game like that playable in my hands? Can’t wait to get my hands on it 😍

@wanderer314 I mean this is looking pretty good for Switch 2 as long it's stable the only real nitpick I have with it is it's a game key card, other then that this is looking great looking forward to playing it in the winter.

Metaphor is my most anticipated game and you mention it is less impressive which has me worried. Can you provide details of how it disappoints please?
