Almost 50 Different System Themes Revealed Prior To New 3DS Launch

I guess Luigi and Zelda will be the ones I'll pick up, though I really hope some Pokémon, Kid Icarus, Pikmin, and Fire Emblem themes also come out in the near future.

Since Japan's getting all these, that means Nintendo will probably give North America 2 or 3.

Given we've heard that some games will come with themes, I'm guessing Pokemon OR/AS might be one of these. Unless they are making them exclusive to a limited edition console or something.

Images on the Nintendo website show you change theme/access the theme shop where you currently access brightness settings (those are still there). Also if you delete your NNID or eShop account you'll lose your themes (so they're linked to this).

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo has Pokémon themes, but only makes them avaailable through the game - a code for the physical version, and a direct free download for digital.
The same might apply to Smash Bros., with the theme possibly being included in the WiiU version as a ssmall incentive to get the 3DS version.

I just hope Nintendo will allow other developers to create dashboard themes on their own, since the ones presented so far are really good, but don't cater towards more sspecific tastes.

That Yoshi one looks cool, I might get that.

The Mario character ones and Zelda and Animal Crossing ones are what I am interested in. I love this idea and can't wait until they are out. I always wanted to be able to customize the home menu.

What a nifty idea and long overdue. I'll go with one of the free ones till I figure out which I want. Also thank God for no Pokemon ones as of yet. Highly overrated!

If I buy any it is likely Zelda. Might wait and see if more launch. Hoping future games come with download codes for a game related theme.

I'm pretty sure I'll get the Yoshi one for the Yoshi 3DS XL. Not sure for my other system, though.

Most of these seem to be associated with their own background music, and there's one for each of Lumen's songs!

Keep in mind this may be the first wave of themes. I'm sure we will see more waves with other Nintendo titles later this year.

honestly they should be free, or earned with streetpass coins, unless there is more animations, but for static images its kind of sad to charge money for them.

I would absolutely adore a Pikmin theme, but doubt it would happen unless the series gets a handheld entry (which would probably have to be a spinoff; I can't see commanding 100 pikmin on a 3 inch screen). I'll hold off for Donkey Kong in the meantime.

one or two bucks isn't bad. because of tax, some games on the eshop have odd pricing and leave you with a measly number of dollars and cents you can't buy any worthwhile games with, so I can at least buy something interesting to go with my spare eshop balance

this could be a nice little moneyspinner for Nintendo. Creating a theme doesn't cost a lot of money or resources so the profit margin is very high.

They really should not be charging for these.I'm never 1 to complain about pricing but £1.20 for a single theme is a complete joke! They could have made them unlockable in games,given free 1's away every weekly download,reward loyal buyers with unique 1's,anything but charge for them.With so many available and probably loads more to come there will be some poor suckers who end up spending a fortune on these.Bad show Nintendo!

I have a feeling these themes will just add an additional burden to the already incredibly slow 3DS. I'll still get some though; wanna take a look at them before I get the New 3DS.

Sweet! A little annoyed that they aren't all free though. I'm hoping to see some games come with themes.

Pretty sure the XL was designed for us old folks (and businessmen), but I get that many of us still want that customization that comes with the small one.

@AVahne, I have an XL. A theme for it would be cool, but at 32 years old, I don't necessarily want to have a big cartoon Mario or Yoshi staring me in the face when I open my 3DS; however, if it were a screen out of Super Mario Bros or Metroid for NES, I'd love it.

I think its great that themes are finally coming. I wonder if they'll make a way to customize one yourself, rather than choosing a pre-made brand theme. Like using whatever photos for the background and different icons for your home menu. That'd be neat.

Wow. The fact that the sample Mario character themes shown at Nintendo's site opted to put Rosalina's theme as an example instead of one featuring the well-known character Princess Peach, is somewhat telling of Rosalina's popularity, as of late. It's usually Mario, Yoshi and Peach, with Luigi making a few appearances. Not Mario, Yoshi and Rosalina.

Anyway, I can't wait to grab some of these themes. I do wish I could create my own, though.

Surprising that there is no pokemon theme. I'll be skipping out on most if not all of these anyway since they cost money.

I can change the background/theme on an Apple/Android device for free. Why should I have to pay for that feature on my 3DS? $2 for a Mario background, I'll pass.

I'll probably use the wooden Mario background.
Wonder what the changeable music will be like? I hope we can select music without being forced to use its matching theme.

The only thing that bothers me about these themes is that they aren't free. I mean, they don't really do anything other than change the look of your 3DS menu. Still, some of these do look interesting...

I'll probablly get one of the ones with the Super Mario Sunshine secret level music and/or ALBW. I really hope in the future there's a Dark Pit or Viridi 3DS theme.

Being a Zelda freak i might get the Zelda theme, although I don't like the design that much. I'll have to wait and see when they come to America to see which one i want

Perhaps later on they'll add retro themes. Personally I want the hanafuda theme. Not too kiddy and not too dull.
