Re: Random: An Unused Alternate Version Of Mega Man 3's Box Art Has Sold On Ebay

Kutal

I actually like how they were improving art style with each new box art

If you wish, you can even came up with a sorta backstory for these covers - Mega Man starts out as a middle aged homeless dude who found a super suit in a dumpster.
Soon, he learns about great responsibility that comes with great power, all these fights exhaust him so much he starts undergoing through drastic body changes and ultimately shrinks down and turns into a boy.

Re: This Adapter Lets You Play Game Boy Cartridges On Your PC, And It Even Detects Fakes

Kutal

@Heavyarms55 so let's say you've bought a used GB cartridge off Ebay and you're playing it on a system which was not intended for it by using unauthorized mod hardware + you didn't pay Nintendo a dime. How's that different from a piracy? It's just an emulation with extra steps.

Maybe you have cartridges that you've legally bought from official stores back in the 90's, then it'll work in some way but it's still a "Game Boy only" game, not "Game Boy to PC".

Re: Frustrated Fan Makes My Nintendo Physical Reward Stock Checker

Kutal

My Nintendo program has physical rewards?...

It's only digital content in my country.
Well, why am I even surprised. Checked and they don't even have 3DS discounts anymore, only themes for menu. You can't spend Gold Points because there are no rewards for it. Top class program.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #52 - Mega Man 2

Kutal

This is a first time I see German MM2 Cover and it's absolutely gets my vote. Don't get me wrong, these are all a classic, and I would give the prize to Japanese or US, if I could. But that incredibly well-drawn Wily's face along with Mega Man probably shouting "oh man oh man oh s***" to himself while he's escaping from the dragon are absolute gold.

Re: Can You Name These Third-Party Nintendo Games From Just Their Box Art?

Kutal

11/15
I don't know half of these games, I just guessed it by details on cover and art style (for example, early 3D art on cover was clearly something from N64 era). Still, the quiz got pretty tricky near final.

And thank you for reminding me about Crystalis. NES version is an underrated gem and I should finish it.

Re: Review: Disney Classic Games: Aladdin And The Lion King - A Fine Package, But The Games Have Aged Badly

Kutal

So Sega's Aladdin and The Lion King are considered bad in the West?
That's so weird. I always liked these games, the graphics were smooth and colorful, the levels are all creative, the difficulty... I can agree to that, darn ostrich race was a pain. The only BAD Aladdin and TLK games are actually NES/GB ones, those are nearly unplayable.

And I never, ever understand people's love for SNES Aladdin. It's just... eh. Capcom's/Disney take on Prince of Persia.

Re: Pay Your Respects, The 3DS YouTube Service Has Now Ended In Japan

Kutal

I used 3DS Youtube app to play music videos while i'm working on something else. Like a mini radio (even though I have a regular radio receiver).
But 3DS app stopped working some time ago, it doesn't even launch now. I don't know if it's because they closed the service in Europe (didn't hear any news regarding that), but it's more like the app wasn't that good in the first place.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

Kutal

I had problems with original GB not reading the cartridge properly but a simple "pull out - push in" worked. Shoulder buttons on my original 3DS are somewhat loose after 5+ years of active gaming, and I had to glue analogue stick's rubber cap back to its place a few times. Other than that, I don't think I ever experienced any major problems with Nintendo hardware. But Switch looks like it has a lot of issues, which is currently stops me from buying it.

Re: Sega To Reveal Mystery AAA Game At Gamescom This Month

Kutal

I don't think it's Sonic. Iizuka confirmed they are making new game for the series, but there were no cryptic clues from Sonic twitter or rumors pointing to that they already have something to show recently.
My guess it's something way less obvious. NOT new Billy Hatcher. NOT Golden Axe, modern Sega wouldn't do that. I also doubt Monkey Ball fits into AAA category.
Maybe it's just a new Yakuza or something that is not a sequel to any franchise.

...I would give tons of money for new Ecco or NightS, of course.

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Favourite Nintendo DS Games

Kutal

I declared my love for Bomberman series many times before, i'll do it again. Touch! and its sequel are among best installments of this franchise, Bomberman 2 is also very good. I haven't played that much of Story DS, but it seems like a solid JRPG.

Also every game where Shu Takumi was involved is a masterpiece. You should play Ghost Trick, your kids and grandkids should play it, ghosts of your ancestors should play it too.

Re: The Detective Pikachu Movie Reviews Are In, And It's Actually Pretty Mixed

Kutal

Critics weren't super excited about first Pokemon movie in 1998 either... and about every other Pokemon movie released every other year as well. Movie specials are usually made for people who already love the franchise and want more of what they love. So if you want to know if this movie good or not, just buy a ticket and see everything for yourself.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Causing The Slow Death Of Gaming Magazines, And It Hurts

Kutal

Sometimes I think about what we really did by inventing the Internet. It allows us to do any kind of stuff, communicate with people all across the globe and instantly get all the information we need but it also takes something from us as exchange for that comfort. Things like joy from picking a new issue of your favorite magazine from your mailbox or buying it from the local newspaper stand are in past now. I'm not even sure people use libraries now, you can just search stuff on Google or buy digital books on Amazon.

As for me, I still buy physical magazines and will continue to buy them until they will end being published. It's just not the same to read them in digital form.

Re: First Impressions: Running Scared from Sonic Forces

Kutal

I don't expect very much from this game as well, but I feel like this article was written by some aggressive Genesis era fan. You know, these kind of people who took over Sonic fandom and spitting in the face to everyone who dare to say Adventure games were good.

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

Kutal

I'm not gonna believe reviews until I play it myself. Some people will hate the game just because of Jontron incident. And those review examples in the article, people are complaining it's a N64-era styled platformer. Isn't it, um, what it aimed to be from the very beginning? A modern Banjo-Kazooie clone for Banjo-Kazooie fans.

I remember similar story happened to DuckTales Remastered, GameSpot said it was an outdated platformer, yet me and my friends enjoyed every minute of it.
