You can always rely on Devolver Digital to offer up quirky, left-field games, and Sludge Life certainly fits that description.
This low-fi 3D adventure game will be hitting Switch and the Epic Games Store this spring, and involves graffiti, farting, photography and urinating into toilets (no, really).
Sludge Life will be shown off at PAX East this weekend, where attendees who stop by Devolver Digital's booth (#25051) can get some early hands-on gameplay.
Here's some more info:
Art vandals Terri Vellmann & Doseone (HIGH HELL) and talented finger painters Devolver Digital have revealed SLUDGE LIFE, a graffiti romp through a polluted island full of cranky idiots with a vibe so thick you can taste it coming to Nintendo Switch and Epic Games Store this spring.
Roam a tiny island stuck on a sludge covered planet as upcoming tagger GHOST, a breezy bandit set on staking their claim amongst the graffiti elite. Traverse the corporately branded landscape, link up with other taggers, and steal junk and hearts along the way. Will you become the king of the island and tag every open inch, infiltrate sludge-pumping corporation GLUG, or just take it all down in flames with you?
FEATURES
* Experience the thrills of vandalism from the safety of your computer.
* Curiosity and free will are your only motivators - roll as you please through a tiny open-world.
* Find and download apps to your laptop and waste your life away playing a game within a game.
* Smoke Ciggy Cigs brand cigarettes. Smoke ‘em up real good.
* Take photos of exotic fauna and ambivalent NPCs.
* Dedicated fart button.
* A huge baby, community basketball court, and a cat with two buttholes. [no extra charge]

Intrigued for sure. Despite my ongoing concerns about Etsy.
Hmm, might check this out. Devolver has yet to let me down!
I guess Devolver decided not to stop with bootlegs so they made a Jet Set Radio one.
This screams awesome to me. I love smoking cigarettes in games because I miss smoking cigarettes lol.
Just another BotW clone - the player can be seen gliding towards food at the begining, & there's lots of farting like Link's special move he uses against Gammon.
This looks fun, interested to hear more.
Full on vaporwave triphop! I did NOT expect this!
Looks like good fun.
Sounds like the kind of game I can get high to. I'll check it out.
Looks right up my alley
Low-fi 3D
Kinda lost me there.
I am personally really tired of these retro throw back graphics.
if i want retro I'l fire up the real thing. And play the real thing.
I love quirky games, but I'm fed up with the retro graphics.
That kitty got 2 buttholes.
Um yes please
I think I liked what I saw? Maybe "like" isn't the right word to use here, but it made me want to play it whatever it was.
@MeatSauce i know, i read the features.
how many conventions are continuing despite the virus?
Yeah i could not even finish the trailer due to extreme case of crudeness in visual and substantive presentation. Hard pass.
God I love the visuals so much
It's like Devolver knows the best way to take my money. This looks incredible. Just the first couple seconds and I had an urge to pull out my wallet.
This looks like everything I'll ever need.
Giving me some major jazzpunk vibes
watches trailer, stops it half-way through
I....think....I'm gonna pass on this one.
It’s kinda reminding me of that low poly South Park game of the N64 where you run around the town with yellow snowballs.
Strong PaRappa vibes. I want to eat this game with a knife and fork
This looks deeply unpleasant to me, although that's clearly the point. Eh, to each their own I suppose.
I’ve never done drugs before... but after watching that trailer I think I’m high.
I’m not gonna lie... I’m intrigued.
@ancientlii I didn’t want spoilers before I watched the video.A kitty with 2 buttholes is something you gotta see and not read about.
This kinda reminds me of Jazzpunk
This is wild. I don't know if I'll love it, but it's definitely something I'm interested in.
@KitsuneNight just curious, do you feel the same way about 2D pixel art? I'm more interested in low poly because it's a bit refreshing to me these days, where as (while I still enjoy it) pixel art just feels so oversaturated in today's market.
@ERIC_MACK
Yes, it doesn't help that these days we virtually drown in ports of 8 and 16 bit games.
@KitsuneNight good point, that plus indie games really keep it prominent
@ERIC_MACK
Honestly if i want pixel graphics, I just fire up the original not faux retro.
To me nostalgia is best when it's something half remembered you haven't seen or touched in 20 years.
Cause generally nostalgia doesn't hold up when you play the real thing.
9 times out of 10 it's not as good as you remember.
@KitsuneNight well said. I think games like Shovel Knight do it well; replicating old school looks but stretching some of the limitations past the original hardware's limit so that it feels like the way you remember the games in your head as opposed to the way the way they really are (which, like you said, most likely doesn't hold up).
@ERIC_MACK
Graphics in the end don't matter though its the gameplay that does.
And in most cases of the retro games, their gameplay doesn't hold up anymore.
Looks amazing! The heavy focus on style reminds me of Desert Child, but with some actual gameplay that can be enjoyed (3D exploration) rather than dreaded (2D racing)
Very weird, could be interesting.
