Re: Random: Nintendo Acknowledges Virtual Boy After Decades of Passive Denial

Kroko

@nhSnork Right, I love the VB in general, but it's definitely the controller that was the most significant improvement brought by the console.

You could even say that every "normal" controller these days is just a VB controller with analog input added. We did not do that much since then. But do we really need more anyway? That controller was revolutionary.

Re: Updated Nintendo Patent For Modular, Customisable Control Options Gives Another Spin on NX Reports

Kroko

Such a toxic comment section for something this trivial. You have been asking for dual analog on handheld and for different joystick positioning for years. Now, Nintendo might actually deliver exactly what you asked for. Stop whining.

And please. Don't be that idiot who takes everything literally. This is just a patent, not the final product. Why do we have to explain this again every time?

Re: PokéAdvisor is the Latest Third-Party Pokémon GO Service to Bite the Dust

Kroko

Killing the bots, stopping people from cheating and cleaning the servers from all the leechers is essential to keep your game healthy and safe.

Obviously, a lot of people here have little to no experience in MMO's.

Stop crying about your tracking, they said they would fix it. And we never needed tracking in the main series anyway. Just keep running around in the wild grass, you lazy Slowpoke!

Re: Feature: Pokémon Sun and Moon - Breaking Down The Most Exciting New Features

Kroko

I like the idea of regional forms. Especially, if they were to replace mega evolution, I always found mega evolutions awkward.

If we could get rid of the need of an HM slave and make the world more interactive and more fun to travel by changing the way we use these moves, it's a great improvement. I haven't played any current gen Pokémon, game though.

Re: Retailers Expect Pikachu And Pals To Be Big Sellers This Christmas Thanks To Pokémon GO Fever

Kroko

I don't know why people were so worried about Nintendo hardware losing presence on the market because of Go.

Go and the next mobile games are here to act as standalone products as well as advertisement for the main line of Nintendo games. Go made many people realize that it is a lot of fun to play a Pokémon game and that a 3DS might actually be a good investment. Maybe that's what the console market needed the most. Visibility, credibility and to show it is open to everyone, not just veteran gamers.

I don't know how long the positive effects of Go will last, but it seems to be working for now.

To me it is obvious that the 3DS is a very good console with an excellent game library. It might not be that obvious for the average consumer and the VG noob, though. This is precisely why we need Pokémon Go, Fire Emblem iWakening and Animal Crossing Let's Go to the Android Market.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Nintendo NX Will Help Grow The Industry And Pull In Casual Players

Kroko

I'm getting tired of hearing of "casuals" and "gimmicks" all the time.

This is going nowhere. Mainly because of the way many people in this comment section, as well as many people elsewhere on the same topic of discussion, use the word "casual" nowadays. It no longer refers to people who don't play much. It refers more to:

People who actually care about video games. People who play a lot of games, of different types and on different platforms. Alone and in groups.

By opposition to brainless sociopaths who play one single type of games, on one single platform. Who treat said platform as if it was a religion and cannot resist the urge to violently assault anyone who does not worship the same god. Who believe to be a superior being only for owning a more expansive rig than others, sometimes even drifting at the edge of fanaticism or fascism.

We don't need that, thank you very much. If we are expecting good experience, fun, surprises and novelty, it will be delivered. That is what Nintendo has been doing for years, and that is what will happen again in the future.

Saying a console should be dedicated to the "hardcore" is like saying TVs should be exclusively for those who watch sport. All the others do not disserve a TV.

If you are afraid of the word "casual", if you think "gimmick" is somehow an insult, or if you need a bigger computer to feel satisfied, maybe you should simply... you know... consider taking some distance with Nintendo. Feel free to look down on people who don't share your opinion, or who do not display as many little dots at once on their screen. But do it somewhere else.

In the mean time, we'll be having fun with BotW, Splat2n and Pikmin 4. If it has to be with a heartbeat/hand moisture-sensing controller, so be it.

Re: Feature: What We Can Expect From The Future Of Pokémon GO

Kroko

Adding in shinies would be an easy way to increase interest and lifespan of the game, while not necessitating as much work as adding more new Pokémon. That can wait a bit. For once, it's just gen 1, like in the old days.

Also, shiny-hunters won't be able to reset to get their pray. They will have to do it legit

However, I don't think making any possible connection with the main series games would be a good idea. This could ruin both the main series and Go.

Re: Listing Points to Darksiders Heading to Wii U

Kroko

I can't understand the hype here. I found a second hand copy a long time ago, right after the release. I had heard many good things about it, so I purchased it.

My memory of the game isn't very fresh, but I think the game starts with the dumbest platforming sequence ever. Then you fight a lot of enemies with a very limited move set, hopefully it's just because it's the beginning of the game. I vaguely remember being frustrated by the lack of a block/defend button, and I just had to mash the attack button brainlessly, or something like that. Then I met with a giant dwarf for some reason and they gave me an ugly pony. Then I was allowed to rush through a whole lot of nothing. I started to look for a few hidden stuff and then I got bored I guess. Well, at least I didn't play long enough to see the game crash

Right now, the game is probably in my "I don't plan to play this in the near future" box. So I suppose I'm not part of the people who will support the other game. Even on Wii U, I still have plenty to play.

Re: Poll: What Other 'Classic Edition' Nintendo Systems Do You Want to be Released?

Kroko

I'm surprised by the very few votes for the handhelds. A newer GB(C/A) with a better screen and a rechargeable battery would be awesome.

Even a Wii Mini seems like a good option, despite the fact a product with this name already exists. Every single one of these consoles has at least 3 dozens of excellent games that would make it worth purchasing a new version.

Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games

Kroko

It was about time they came up with something like this. Hardware failures will only become more and more common with time, these consoles are simply too old. And finding the original games isn't easy. Not even talking about the much needed addition of HDMI output. Most TV manufacturers have been getting way too lazy and cheap in the last few years.

I just wonder why we ended up with FF1 and not the others. Why Megaman 2 specifically? Why no Fire Emblem?

I was hoping for something like this for years. I can't wait for a SNES or N64 version, preferably with more games, and maybe even a public vote for the games to be included.

Oh... and a Gameboy version, with a proper LCD

Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games

To all the people whining about "cash-in" aspect, not being able to play original cartridges, not seeing the point...

1) they sold 60 millions NES. There are 7 billions people on Earth. Guess what... not everyone owns a NES. That's at least one good reason to create such a thing. Of course, you need to be relatively good at math to come with such a complex observation, I can't blame you.

2) it's a mini-console with pre-loaded games: not being able to play the original games is the whole point! No cartridge slot, no internet connection, no online service. Also, the console seems barely as big as the carts themselves!

3) someone suggested it should be 29$. Yes, sure. No wait, I think it should actually be 19$. And if you purchase one, you get a free NX. And a 50$ eShop card. Jesus...

Sweet Bionis! People, use your head!

Re: You Might Not Want To Use Your Google Account With Pokémon GO

Kroko

Apple, Google and Microsoft all have the reputation of being manipulative and way too curious. If you have a smartphone, they already know everything they could want to know about you. If you were not worried about your privacy yesterday, there's no need to be worried now.

And stop picking your nose while I'm talking to you. Jesus!

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto and Bill Trinen Explain Some of the Key Principles That Define Nintendo Games

Kroko

@MrGawain I'm afraid things will only get worse from here. Many devs nowadays refuse to work with anything but a very specific tool, for example Unreal. While it is an excellent learning tool and a great way to produce games quickly for a low cost, it is also extremely limiting if you decide you don't want to bother with the details.

Want to create a plateformer? Use the plateformer template, duh!
Want to make an FPS? There's a template for that too!

Of course there is always a way to tweak everything and to work on details. But it has never been as easy to mass produce cheap and unpolished software. I believe it is important that even the most basic experience should be enjoyable in a game. Simply running around and having a good time should be fun. It can start as soon as the title screen, actually.

There have always been bad games and there will always be. But I definitely think the average quality has improved immensely during the 80s all the way the 2000s. I just we didn't reach a peak and are doomed to go back down now.

Re: Pokémon GO is Now Available in the US

@Jeronan
Maybe that's why we call them "smart" phones, they were secretly designed to restart the process of natural selection

Joke aside, this doesn't have anything to do with Pokémon Go, though. It is about people being stupid.
