Japanese chart figures are now in for 22nd - 28th October, showing that the Switch has seen a slight dip in performance thanks to a lack of major releases - just like in the UK charts. Despite this, the console is still home to 11 of the top 20 games this week.
The PS4 version of the new megahit Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to sell 132,984 copies at retail this week, shooting straight to the top of the charts as expected. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection also finally arrived in Japan this week, generating 13,998 retail sales on PS4 and 7,443 retail sales on Switch.
Other notable entries this time around include Beyblade Burst: Battle Zero and Yomawari: The Long Night Collection, both of which launched this week. Their debut retail sales came in at 5,380 and 2,997 respectively.

No way Nintendo reaching that 20 million for fiscal year 2018.
@illmatic20xx It will be close. Smash and pokemon lets go will definitely increase sales.
It's started now.
The slowdown of Switch sales that suddenly boosted after Let's Go + Smash Bros combined.
Just matter of time.
Happy to see that Red Dead Redemption 2 is selling well. although, it's not shocking to see doing well. it's one of Rockstar biggest game, next to GTA.
if only a cretin game called Bully (or Canis Canem as people call it in PAL.) would get a chance at another sequel? (maybe...?)
@illmatic20xx These are the Japanese charts, not the “every country who plays video games” charts. This would be great proof, if that fictional chart existed, but alas it doesn’t.
@illmatic20xx think it’s a bit too early to say that. In a few weeks time when Pokemon comes out will be the true indicator.
@Anti-Matter Those games haven't even come out yet, what are you talking about? We're seeing the 'calm' before a pair of major releases, that's all. Wait 3 weeks for Pokemon to launch, and we'll see what it looks like then.
@NewAdvent
I think they will miss hardware expectations by a bit (it’s not impossible for them to hit though) but software will smash(Bros) well past expectations.
Also 100K is too low a hardware number for Pokémon release week. It’s gonna be much bigger.
Sort of replying to everyone above -
Starting in 2 weeks the SSBU Switch bundle goes on sale for $359 (whatever that is in Yen in Japan).

Also the same week as the 2 different Pokemon Go bundles go on sale. Makes sense normal Switch sales would slow down down as people wait for those bundles.

Every console is down from last week in Japan except regular Xbox One. Clearly it'll make a comeback! 🤣
it will slow down of course eventually. everyone got one who wanted one. The next buyers are much smaller so.... maybe the upgraded switch next year might give a boost
Sales are pretty good for the Switch considering how un-compelling its 2018 lineup has been so far.
Smash + Pokemon will boost sales into the stratosphere.
A firm GRIP?!?!
The thumbnail is a joke people... we got a dad here.
Definitely just noticed we now have a thumbs down option. I like this addition but when was this added?
There are like 5 different Switch hardware bundles releasing in November in Japan, so I wouldn't write off that 20 million forecast completely...
No surprises here..they aren't going against xbox, ps4 and still doing better than expected. Logic would say right.
"Any surprises this time around?"
Not to me-they were a innovator and risk taker and it's paying off
"Do you think the Switch will soon pick up the pace once again?"
Xmas/Holidays will pickup sales that's how things goes-the games gets lower and more people will buy again. It's Market forces 101.
Great to see another game from a western studio do great in Japan... I think this is 5 in a row 😎
Same old for Switch... DarkSouls, BayBlade, Yomawari all bust - oh, and another retro rehash from capcom that does better on Ps4. Basically, Everyone waiting for the 2 Nintendo game on the schedule like everywhere else - sounds so familiar 🤔🙄
@Agramonte your problem is they wait for Nintendo because they aren't tied to the couch that is why. But don't worry because the rest of us aren't.
@Yoshinator Not to mention the holiday bundles as well as the limited editions (Pokemon, Smash, Diabro III, etc.) which those will have collectors buying a 2nd maybe a 3rd Switch. XD
Heck, one bundle is Fortnite. I'm sure kids seeing that plus the thought of taking the game to school will put it on a lot of Xmas lists this year.
I think I have said this every week for the last month, but all that matters on this list to me anymore is hardware sales. Not counting digital sales in 2018 would be like going to the bar and estimating it's popularity only by counting the women. At best, it's a decent guess.
@Aozz101x it didn't really do well considering that it didn't sell ANY additional PS4s
