Niantic has confirmed today that it is running a special celebration event to say thanks to the millions of people who have downloaded and played Pokémon GO since its launch in July.
Between November 23rd and November 30th, players will earn double XP and Stardust:
It has been an incredible experience since we launched Pokémon GO a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you - and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community.
So, starting November 23rd at 00:00 UTC and going through November 30th 00:00 UTC, we will double the amount of XP and Stardust you receive when completing in-game actions.
Will this get you back into the game if you've stopped playing? Let us know with a comment.

Too cold and far too wet. Kids not interested.
@Sakura That's certainly the case for the UK right now!
Too little too late comments in 3... 2... 1...
I might try and go out a couple of times but it is so freaking cold right now in Ohio. Probably the biggest drawback to this game is the seasonal weather. Need Gen 2 to help entice people more to brave the weather.
Nooo, I just evolved my 30 weedles, 30 pidgeys, 10 ratattas using a Lucky Egg last weekend. D-X
The only thing I'll catch outside is a cold, so I'll stick inside and play Sun when it's released.
I have been saving my army of Pidgeys and Weedles just for that one single event.
They had to include it someday, it was a matter of time.
Eu jogo ainda, mas bem de vez em quando.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Haha, very tempting to post that... but I'm still playing. Finally got my 142 & building up a powerhouse team. We'll see how many people are playing when Gen 2 comes out.
This is awesome, those of us who are still invested aren't playing anywhere near as much as we were, so Stardust is a real slog at the moment. A bit more Stardust will let me add a few more of my high IV pokémon to the CP2000+ gang.
What a coincidence... due to start on the very day Sun and Moon are released in Europe.
They're either afraid of the userbase plummeting even further, or are just utter morons who don't think things through... actually, it's probably both.
Gen 1 baby!
I have not turned this on in so long.
@DragonEleven It's more likely they think Pokémon fans are going to drop Pokémon Go for Sun & Moon... which means less money spent on Pokéballs & Lures. This event will probably get me out a little more inbetween Sun sessions.
Though to be fair I'm attending an event which lets me play Sun on the 22nd 10pm to midnight (which is when they'll let me leave with the game).
I'm still playing once or twice a day. Not actively hunting Pokémon and mostly through the Pokémon GO Plus. I just did my last 'evolve session' about a week ago. But I'll make sure to regain an army of Pidgey and Weedle in time to fill some other 30 minutes of evolving.
I've been in 2 gyms close to me for weeks now, so Pokécoins is not going to be a problem. And there are more Pokéstop items than Pokémon so I never run out. So as long as nobody is taking down those gyms, I don't feel motivated to use the training and battling features.
Pokémon GO is really more of a routine thing than an excitement for me now. Only new Pokémon (Gen2) will make me play the game 'consciously' again.
I am not playing anymore. Thanks but No thanks.
@Slaz I'm a little jealous, the gyms where I live switch hourly so Pokécoins are a little harder to get hold of. I'm lucky I've caught my 142 now... otherwise I'd be out in all this rain right now.
But I'll be too busy playing Pokemon sun to go outside!!!!
I'll probably play just enough to evolve another 60 Pokémon whilst using a lucky egg, because that's a really sharp increase in EXP again.
But that's all I'll play, I'm much more interested in playing Sun and Moon right now.
I still need to use a lucky egg, if I did now my level would feel like it's over 9000!
Also, wish Miitomo would do somthing like this.
I might have been interested if candies were easier to get as well.
So the reward for playing is not a special Pokemon or some freebies, but an attempt to trick us into playing much more?
I would complain, but the scary thing is that this is nowaday basics of Game Design for most games >_>;;;
Might step outside for a bit.
Might be cold and wet but that's why I'll be using my car for this! LoL! Last time I used a lucky egg I earned 95,000 XP points. I can't wait for this!!!! 😄
Great, I'll see if I can tear myself away from sun long enough to take advantage of it.
@DanteSolablood Nice! I'm still stuck at 115. I should probably get more incubators at some point because 1 egg at a time.. I'm missing a lot of candies for the starters and some others that are rare spawns in my area. Still need 50+ Dratini candies too.
And the gyms used to switch a lot more often during the summer, but activity has clearly dropped and the remainder is clearly Team Mystic for the most part. I wonder why Mystic is so popular. A few days after this game's launch I just checked all 3 teams and picked what fits my personality, and Mystic just got with my carefree yet cautious personality.
Noice, I'm going to take advantage of this when it's time. My goal is to become a stronger trainer in Go (currently lvl 30), that way when all the major updates comes out, I don't have to be the guy left behind whining.
After all it was thanks to the halloween event and the latest nest change, I was able to get 141 Pokemon in the Pokedex and several high cp pokemon for gyms. Silently happy in the noise of hate.
Fantastic! This will push me into Level 30!
@Slaz Check out this video, explains a lot.

I wonder what the scope of "in game actions" means. I assume that covers all forms of earning exp/stardust, since any interaction is an "in game" action. Just thought it was a weird choice of wording
@setezerocinco eee, macarena!
@Slaz Niantic have JUST rolled out a huge change to some CPs. Looks like they new this was coming before they announced the event.
They giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other! CP changes to Pokémon you've already caught? Ludicrous. Why not adjust the basic stats if you need to nerf certain Pokémon and make others more competitive? They've done it before. So yeah, all those apps people were using to determine their strongest Pokémon? All useless now. Cheers, Niantic.
Cool. Now where's the tracker we were promised months ago
The CP changes are interesting: ups and downs and unannounced.
The CP adjustments are huge and drastic.
First, i upgraded an Arcanine and it gave me -103 ! I was so mad !
Then I shut it down fearing the servers were getting buggy like hell. And now i just notice these changes.
But it's so hot out! Extra sun screen and bottles of water for me. 😎
@DanteSolablood That explains it perfectly indeed. Thanks. And yes, I didn't notice before, but this explains why my Pokemon's positions in gyms were moved down the ranks even though nobody challenged them!
Haven't played since summer. The catching mechanic is fun, but the rest of the experience is really lacking imo.
