I collect Pokémon cards myself, but the wider culture of the hobby is so embarrassing and sad. From adults fighting in toy stores to this story. The people in my local card store are very nice and chill, but it seems these cards trigger the worst behavior in a lot of people.
Good news. Pirating has always been a rather abstract "stealing from the rich/Walmart won't go bankrupt even if a lot of people steal stuff"-concept, but witnessing the death of the DS through piracy has given me a whole new perspective. All of a sudden everyone around me stopped buying games and had huge collections of the newst games on SD cards. No wonder why DS-Development stopped being financially feasible. Most of what is going on with Switch emulation has nothing to do with preservation. Just people who steal software and feel super smug playing new games sometimes days or weeks before the official release for free. I am pro opening up systems for emulation once official production of the system and its games ended though, but that has nothing to do with what was going on in the Yuzu community.
@Rozetta That would be amazing. I thought Triangle Strategy would be somehow connected to BD or Octopath in an Ivalice kinda way (same world, but not directly connected), but it was completely separate. A TBS game would work really well in one of the worlds of BD or Octopath.
I really loved BD2. Felt like a lost 90s JRPG classic enriched by a fantastic modern battle system. Tinkering with the job system while moving from town to town to understand the problem of the area, which can only be solved by dungeon crawling. Right into my veins.
Kinda disappointed this turns out to be really just a Partner instead of a Nintendo Direct. I am so curios to see the first party lineup and the big swansong-game (if there ist one at all) of the "last" year if all the rumors of Switch 2-2025 rumors are true.
I know this sounds very fanboy-ish, but I have to say it anyway: Microsoft has and had only one goal: They saw how consoles started to become more and more like living room PCs with each generation. They dominated the Desktop PC OS market and acted out of fear to be unable to control the booming Living Room PC (and now also Cloud Gaming-)market as well. The whole "DNA" of XBox Phil always talks about is throwing billions of cash at this problem.
Microsoft buying Nintendo would be a dystopian scenario that would turn the company that - despite all its many flaws and failures - shapes the medium with creativity into a tool to position Microsoft via the XBox and XCloud brand in more living rooms. They have shown again and again how they can throw money, but are utterly incompetent in handling talent and creativity.
The Ubisoft philosophy of game design is to look what is most popular when development starts, like Witcher 3 or Elden Ring, and than turn one of their IPs into a watered down comfort food version of it. When they try to stand on their own feet instead of other shoulders, BGE2, Skull & Bones, the projects spiral out of control and show some Duke Nukem Forever level of incompetence. Awful company.
This generation started with me being incredibly annoyed by the horrible DPad of this controller and likely ends with me being annoyed by the drifting issue with the latest iteration of this thing in TOTK, though I can report recalibrating fixed it… for now. That thing is cursed.
I want to formally inform you that choosing a logo over Amano art is a crime against the UN charta of boxart taste. Though I still prefer the GBA box-design over the japanese DS one. Probably one of my favorite cover designs ever.
All those "this is just overpriced DLC" or "this will be more of the same" folks probably feel really really stupid after watching this masterpiece of a trailer.
I hope the plan was to release the next Mario together with the movie launch, but they had to push the game to Q3 or Q4 because of the Zelda delays. That would mean we could finally hear about it in the big summer direct that replaces their E3 show. Still wonder if Bowsers Fury was a prototype or just an experiment.
What is wrong with SE handling the release of the Pixel Remasters? First they wait forever to put them on the platform where they are most wanted and will very likely sell best. Then, when they finally bring the collection to platforms other than the PC and phones, they make the physical release an ultra rare store exclusive and overprice the collectors edition. This is bonkers. Put a normal release on store shelves and Amazon, by god. It will sell like crazy. And even if not - it will sell better than this pseudo, intransparent limited run. Awful.
As one of the few people who really love the 3D effect (Ocarina looks so gorgeous) and has no skills to repair these things I started to collect as many as possible + a New 2DS as an extra safety option. The library of the 3DS is one of the best in gaming imo. Three (almost four) Fire Emblems, exclusive 3D Mario on the go, three fantastic Zeldas, 2DS backwards compatibility, the Etrian games... I couldn't care less how dated the games look in 2023. The system was and is wonderful.
On one hand I admire how Nintendo handled ACNHs updates and DLC. Imagine how EA, Activision or most other publishers would have destroyed the game with DLC after DLC when you consider how large and devoted the installbase got. But it also feels to me like Nintendo could and should have done so much more to keep the game interesting.
I want to give these a try buying Ryza, but they are so so so expensive. The physical is even more expensive than digital, which is odd for game this old. Must have been a limited release. I guess I wait for a sale.
If you can stomach the dated graphics and an overdose of 3D-Eurojank... you are in for a treat. Gothic 2 was made by a small German team and they delivered a game on par with (maybe even better than) Morrowind. I even enjoyed it more than Oblivion or any other big rpg of the 2000s.
Still mindblowing this is happening... Dead Cells always felt like a Castlevania game to me. Can not describe why, but my mind always categorized it as the Castlevania-Rouglike. And now it actually has Castlevania content. This is so awesome. I really really love this game and I think I will love it even more with content from my favorite franchise.
Do I need my huge bowl of vanilla ice cream after lunch? Absolutely no. Do I enjoy getting my huge bowl of vanilla ice cream after every lunch? Hell yeah!
I also have to add that the remake was a good game with a fantastic, meaty postgame.
@fR0z3nS0u1 The game runs so poor on my Ps4 Pro, I gave up and wait til I get a Ps5 in the next years. I highly doubt they will put the effort into a stable, well performing port, and instead just give us a cloud version for 60 Euros... and then wait til player numbers are low enough to pull the plug of the servers, leaving us with an 60 Euro icon that connects to an error message.
I just recently discovered Lego as a method to deal with anxiety issues I have. Building stuff from the Archtecture line has a calming effect on my mind. While looking at Hogwarts and the Disney Castle in the Lego store I realized how much potential there would be for Zelda sets. Hyrule Castle BOTW edition, a blocky Hyrule Castle N64-Ocarina style. The Deku tree. The Master Sword. Problem is I would probably need a second job. Lego is awfully expensive.
Is matchmaking different during Splatfests? I was doing really OK, winning way more matches than I lost since launch, but I lost all but one match during the three hours I managed to play the Splatfest. And it wasn`t even close. I got slaughtered match after match. Weird.
@Joriss I experience these disconnects a lot. Almost always when Im doing fine. But I fear these midgame disconnects are not fixable via patch. Not an expert so I can't verify this, but I read everywhere that only matchmaking-disconnects are really fixable by Nintendo. Midgame disconnects are the fault of the users connection. Especially weak wifi. I have an OLED, so I can easily try if a wired connection will fix my problem this evening.
That's a lotta shovelware. One of the publishers/devs that should be either banned from the EShop or at least get a release-limit. One of the reasons the Eshop situation is this awful.
Like a few of you already said: If BOTW 2 comes early next year Nintendo would never release two full length mainline Zeldas just a few months before their biggest and most important game right now. But.... I think it is possible we see Aonuma announcing a holiday 23 release date or maybe even another delay. In that case they could pull the Wii U ports out of the hat and say: But don`t worry, you can play these two beloved entrys in the meantime.
The limitations of the Switch are so blown out of proportion. Yes, there are some games that need a higher and more stable framerate (like Age of Calamity) and yes, when the Switch is your only console and you want to play demanding third party-ports like the Witcher you get the least beautiful and worst performing version. But when I look at Odyssey or Party Superstars or play BOTW I never think: This needs 120fps to be enjoyable or ray tracing to be beautiful. These games look absolutely beautiful because of the art design and run fine enough to be enjoyable. We will get prettier graphics with the next Switch, but it is not like we desperately need it because all Switch games look ugly and run at 10fps.
LOL, everybody knows what happens after Frontiers launched. The game will crash and burn, which will force to Sega to greenlight another Mania project to repair the damage the hideously incompetent 3D installments caused. Then there will be another super-hyped 3D game from Sonic Team that... and so on and so on...
Well maybe adding a precise D-Pad... just a guess. I hate this Pro Controller Fanboyism and the awful "reviews" that basically say: I love it, It is sooo comfortable, best controller ever made.... Drove me absolute crazy in the first few months of the Switch. I noticed the accidental hard drops in the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo, tested the controller and realized there is a design flaw in the D-Pad. I mean it really is the most comfortable controller I own, and it is my first choice for any game that does not need precise D-Pad inputs..., but I think a controller this expensive should have a funtioning, precise D-Pad.
It makes sense: What better place than the Cosby Suite to celebrate the millions their predatory Diablo Immoral microtransactions-scheme generates every day...
I think it is a missed opportunity that the new IPs, Octopath, Triangle and now this, do not share the same universe. They could have build a new Ivalice, where everything happens seperatly but is connected to a bigger shared context.
I love love love F-Zero, but I don't think I want a new one. GX was perfect and I fear a new iteration would be handled like the latest Mario Sports games, which are fine but lack content and a real identity. GX is the complete package. It would only need a visual makeover and some difficulty tweaks.
The Direct was amazing. So many big announcements, yet this one managed to stand out for me. Big fan of Transport Fever and Factorio, which both sadly have no console port. So this looked like: Hello, I am your dream game.
@sisodinr Yes! Like DQ 11. Would be such a beautiful thing to happen if we could explore a pixel art version of the same game, but there is no way Gamefreak would ever devote time to something like that. Even the top-down remakes are fully 3D.
W should stop giving these leakers and self proclaimed "insiders" any attention. There is no way Nintendo would air different Directs back to back. Now please excuse me while I play the Prime Trilogy that gets leaked every year by the same people.
I pre-odered the game and want to start this evening, but I wonder if it would be better to wait for the content patch. The first game is one of my all time favorite games, yet I somehow managed to never play the second one. Replaying the first on Switch was awesome, so I decided to finally play the sequel that seems to be liked even more by so many.
@Itachi2099 I`m worried too, cause I am not into online that much. Wonder if it has some singleplayer season mode. I know it is a different kind of football game, but I would really want that.
Most if not all of the team clearly wanted to work on BOTW 2 or Xenoblade 3. And despite working for Sega they kept dreaming the dream, built a very Nintendo-open world level with Unity and just added ramps to towers and Sonic stuff like rings to please their superiors. At least that is my headcanon how the trailer was made.
No Chrono Trigger, no FF VI and instead we get one Saga game after the other. I have two friends who are die hard JRPG fans and play almost every game of the genre. When I asked them if I should get the Saga Games they both laughed and said those games are just way too weird to be any fun. Which made me watch a lets play and yes, these games are weird. I have read the creator of the Saga games is now high up in SE management. So that is probably why we get this instead of Chrono.
The logo went through 53 iterations? You mean just like the rumor of a Switch port every self-proclaimed insider is super sure is already finished could shadow drop any minute since 2018?
What? The multiplayer servers of the ultimate Halo-Killer "Haze" survived long enough to see the release of Halo Infinite on the successor of the successor of the 360? Ubi is really really awful, but you have to give them credit for keeping all these servers online for a handful of players of these last-last-gen games.
It is awful that we even have to ask that question. These roms should drop a lot more frequent. Instead we get so much radio silence. Nintendos handling of this feels erratic at best. Months of nothing... then some super obscure games...then NSO gets its own slot in a Direct with Earthbound... now back to silence again...
Yeah, those Prime Trilogy rumors that give me hope and evaporate one week later are not enough, please add a Hunters remake similar to Samus Returns to the list. That would be dope!
If Phil buying EA and Activision means they won`t touch Sega, Capcom , or Square Enix then... yeah. Buy it. I could not care less if annual crap like COD or Fifa become Xbox exclusives, but SMT, Resident Evil or Final Fantasy would feel awful.
One thing that also gets overlooked: Microsoft is a nice overlord now, but management, philosophies and strategies change. When they, in a few years, get the idea to revive Kinect or come up with something similar... then all those studios that so proudly state how well Phil treats them today will be sent to the Kinect mines like Rare once was.
So yeah, please don´t buy Capcom, SE or Sega and please please don`t let them buy Toby Fox. That would be awful too.

So yeah, please don´t buy Capcom, SE or Sega and please please don`t let them buy Toby Fox. That would be awful too.
