It's the time of year when all sorts of video game conferences are broadcast, or at least get announced. Blizzard - the developer behind series like Diablo, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft hasn't held its own in-person event in a while, but it seems this will be changing next year.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times recently, Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra mentioned how the company wanted to return to a "live event" and celebrate with its community once more. Going as far as to say a new leader for this event has been hired:
“We previously announced we’re taking a pause on BlizzCon while we reimagine it for the future but do want to return to a live event that enables us to celebrate the community. We recently hired a new leader of BlizzCon, April McKee, who is hard at work on that plan. ... We are committed to bringing back BlizzCon in 2023.”
Blizzard cancelled BlizzCon's live events in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. And following this, the 2022 digital event was axed due to ongoing allegations against the company.
Blizzard is currently hard at work on Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4. In case you've missed it, Overwatch 2's PVP multiplayer will be free-to-play - allowing anyone to be a hero when it launches this October. Loot boxes are being ditched for battle passes, too. And last week, Blizzard acquired another developer:
The company is also currently going through a transitional period - including Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which hasn't quite gone through yet. It's unclear at this stage how exactly Blizzard will "reimagine" BlizzCon for 2023, so be on the lookout for a future announcement.

I'm not sure, if I'm alone with this, but I just can not support this company any longer after I heard how terrible they treated their own employees. Activision can kiss my ass!
@RareFan All I have to say to that is...
NINJA APPROVED
As good as this might be for the fans into live events, I'm more interested in hearing on how they're fixing their company culture. I don't know what form that takes, but until then, I'll still be holding back on grabbing anything Blizzard.
@RareFan
Yeah the only thing I wanna hear them committing to is to falling on their sword.
@RareFan Nah man I agree with you, I love overwatch and Im going to keep playing it and all, but my goodness there just getting right back into it like nothing happened, like th?
They are also very committed to committing all kinds atrocities.
So yeah, f them and all of their BS.
They won't see a slither of support from my end unless they completely cut off their rotten head and start to change up the company.
Well I'm committed to not giving this company my money going into 2023.
"Activison-Blizzard committed to putting more shiny things in customer's faces to help them forget the bad stuff they've done."
It makes sense: What better place than the Cosby Suite to celebrate the millions their predatory Diablo Immoral microtransactions-scheme generates every day...
@YinYangYoshi
They’re also committed to fully utilizing their upcoming overlords near limitless astroturfing budget.
Don’t people hate blizzard now?
@YinYangYoshi “Yo activison, what about the thing you” Activison: “Freeeeeee battle Passssssss!”
World record for least amount of women in one place
Is this an out-of-season april fools joke?
Is it gonna be byob (bring your own breast milk) or are they gonna provide some?
I play a game not by enterprise that do it but for the fun, but
f2p overwatch is not my cup of tea. I play it since day one, first pc, next PS4 and now on switch. Bought 3 times. As f2p, is not taking the steps as I expected and I stop played since the ow2 demo. I lost my hopes on it
I'll watch if they announce they'll be slaughtering Bobby Kotick live on stage.
What is it with western publisher's that they can get away with being the scummy of the scummiest? Activision Blizzard, EA, and especially Ubisoft that continually gets a free pass. Then there's your Take Two's and Warner Bros.. It's disheartening this industry about FUN has come to this.
Blizzard is now a tarnished name. Whatever passionate fans they had before are gone now.
@XenoShaun It's funny how the companies that treat people the worst are also the companies that seem to virtue signal politics the hardest. Pretty much backing up what I always thought about companies doing that, it's usually just some terrible executives trying to over-compensate for their awful antics.
They are certainly a glutton for punishment. By next year we'll have Overwatch Immortal and WoW immortal Xpack 17. I can't wait for the questions from players portion.
Just played the OW2 Beta a while ago…and it was terrible. Nothing but sweaty Blizzard nerds, and I couldn’t even win one game. Uninstalled it and I’m probably not looking to go back.
I hope they bring it back! It's what the world needs... More chances to point and laugh at how out of touch and buffoonish Blizzard has become.
As long as they don't ask for phones, we'll be fine.
After what they did to Warcraft 3 Reforged (Loved playing Warcraft 3 back then) and other games...... yeah I won't be supporting Blizzard at all. I only really play Hearthstone nowadays, and in the many years of playing it (I started playing it when it only had the classic and the first 2 expansions out only), I haven't spent a dime on it heheh.
First ever live event to have no girls show up. I hate how one group of people can bring down an entire company, all cause they're messed up in the head. In a more upbeat point, the overwatch 2 beta is pretty fun, at least now I won't have to give them money with it going free to play.
