In recent weeks we've seen a number of eShop game announcements as more developers get their hands on development kits, and we now have a Nindie title from the Wii U eShop that'll make the move this week.
It's Vaccine, with Rainy Frog stepping in to publish; it's out on 6th July in North America and Europe at a cost of $9.99USD / €9.99 / £8.99. You can see its Switch trailer below, which gives you a sense of how it riffs upon retro Resident Evil titles.
Unfortunately we weren't fans of its previous release in our Vaccine review, as we were critical of some quality control issues and the uneven gameplay from combining a retro formula with a focus on randomised elements.
It'll be interesting to see how it stands up on Switch; will you be signing up for a shot?

Looks awful...
This one slipped through the cracks on me. Not really interested in going back to classic RE tank controls, but I'll look forward to the Switch review and see if it's improved over the Wii U version.
Doesn't look too thrilling unfortunately. Was hoping for something like Plague inc. from reading the title.
I loved the original RE, 2 and 3... The controls added to the fear factor lol ... Visually it looks cool! I remember when games like this came out they were the best looking games ever. Tank controls are good, in like em, old resi is better seeing as 6&7 were trash
No, thanks. I see no point in these lazy, unoriginal tributes to the games of old. If I wanted tacky, tanky Resident Evil (which I most certainly do!), then I would rather Capcom rereleased the originals instead. I loved the port of RE1 on DS. I'd lost track of how many times I'd completed that back in the day.
After reading the wii u review this doesn't sound as good as I had hoped for . Might see the review first in case it's been improved
$10 huh? might wait for a sale
Looks very uninspiring, particularly for £8.99. Unfortunately it is releasing with Implosion, fantastic reviews for the mobile version, and Shephy, a cheap solitaire game with plenty of replayability, so it will probably be missed by most people. The publishers should probably delay the release until Halloween time, just a suggestion.
Resident rip off and it looks crap, rather play the original resi games
Jeez, it not only riffs on RE. PSX graphics ahoy!
I was looking forward to this but after reading the Wii U review on this site, I steered clear of it. Buy Vaccine and your Switch may need a vaccine.
@BarryDunne people really need to stop this false rhetoric with Switch versions of games. Being able to take it on the go doesn't improve the game any, just makes it easier to play away from the TV.
The game itself still sucks, whether it's in your living room or on a plane. Also, plenty folks don't care one bit about playing games on a portable device. Just look at the PS4 and XB1 sales.
seen reviews online from people that got it from jap store & it still looks utter garbage
Looks like curation of the eshop is going out the window.
Is this a mobile game? Or a direct port from a 1999 game?
The graphics look truly insulting for any modern console (even a tablet-based console!).
I tolerated the gameplay of Resident Evil because I enjoyed the stories of Umbrella and the T-Virus. Nowadays I play Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles for my RE fix. An homage to RE gameplay is not a tempting game.
Shocking negativity around here for this one. I'm excited by the prospect of this being portable as I feel roguelike titles benefit from not requiring lengthy sit-down sessions. I would have loved this on New 3DS, but I'm much more interested with it on Switch so I get a mix of home and portable options to fit a run into my day whenever I can. This is one I think I'll definitely get at some point now that it's not tethered to a home console.
@gatorboi352 It's a good thing you're here to tell people why their personal feelings about a game's value proposition are wrong.
@BarryDunne haha looks like fun. Thanks for mentioning this, otherwise I would have skipped right over it!
The publishers should probably delay the release until... forever? Yes forever sounds ok. It looks worse than garbage, I think it is almost insulting that a game like this gets to the eShop
Looks like somebody tried to remake Resident Evil for the Ngage
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I see what you did there XD
I thought the same thing. It looked like something interesting but after reading NintendoLife's review I'm gonna pass on Vaccine on Switch too.
The image and name is making me think of Plague Inc. lol
Maybe that game could show up at some point, would be neat.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I was the same. I'm a big RE fan, and this looked like a great homage to it, but the negative review (and reviews on other sites) discouraged me from buying it.
"Despite all your efforts, your friend got infected again. Find a vaccine before the time runs out."
I guess the devs don't realize that a vaccine is meant to prevent infection. If your friend is already infected, a vaccine will do nothing for him. Get that man some IVIG!
PS1 looking game is insulting to Switch but Neo Geo, and NES/SNES looking games are not insulting?
Is this fanboy logic?
I love that someone is making a game like this that is a homage to the 90's and ive already been planning to get this trying to decide between the steam, ps4 or xbox copy with ps4 being 3 dollars more then the rest for some reason but I'll wait to see what Canadian price this baby gets on the switch before final decision
looks cool like "alone in the dark".
I'll double dip as I really didn't agree with the review here at all. Great game.
The premise sounds awful and last-minute, but I am interested in seeing how this plays out. Especially since I never even played Resident Evil.
@BarryDunne I have. Actually, My friend owned this on his Wii U, it felt boring to me which is why I'm gonna pass it on Switch. I thought it would be improved so I checked the Switch review of the game. Now I'm satisfied and will skip it and save up money for Splatoon merchandise instead.
It looks like resident evil 1-3 on the ps1 and thats a great thing. first time i have ever heard of it too cant wait after seeing the trailer.
I am surprised Capcom have not asked them not to release it as it is such a blatant rip off, not riff of resident evil.
@MarioPhD which is exactly what i.... didn't do here. Reading Comp 101 homie
@BarryDunne sure, right. It's a bonus. But to imply that this game is somehow better because of it is a stretch.
As for the quality of the game itself, my interest was piqued until I read NL's review of it. The fact that these guys think it is bad as they say it is speaks volumes IMO as they are usually very kind to many titles that are otherwise widely panned.
@gatorboi352 "It's the best version of this game thanks to its portability."
Claim: The game is better because it is now portable.
"People really need to stop this false rhetoric with Switch versions of games. Being able to take it on the go doesn't improve the game any, just makes it easier to play away from the TV."
Response: The game is not any better due to it being portable.
Unless we're debating the meaning of the phrase "value proposition," then I don't see another way of reading this than you telling someone their feelings about a game are wrong.
@MarioPhD
In no way was the original commenter's post clearly stating "value proposition". Now, sure, the original poster can come back and explicitly state this and end the whole conversation. However, up to this point, we only have to go off the information that has been presented. You said it yourself:
"It's the best version of this game thanks to its portability."
Claim: The game is better because it is now portable.
Either way, and the most ironic part about all of this is that if someone came on here and stated "the PS4 Pro version of (fill in the blank multi-platform game) is the best version because of the extra horsepower" not only would they be objectionably* correct, they would be taken to the wood shed and raked across the coals by the same folks here that agree with your perceived, and subjective based, "value proposition" claim.
*in arguing hypotheticals here, extra horsepower can and often time does objectionably improve a game on a technical and gameplay level, thus making it the "best" version. Being able to play the game in more situations than in front of a TV offers a subjective based convenience factor.
Is this the beginning of shovelware?
@NintendoFan4Lyf Well in that case I don't get why anyone would design it that way voluntarily/intentionally. But to be honest I also don't get why people like those pixelated graphics in 2D indie games.
For me they are just extremely ugly.
And yes, I'm aware that there's no accounting for taste, so I have to rest my case.
Was this the beta for Resident Evil 1 on PSOne?
@BarryDunne Oh yes! You'll see what happens on the battlefield! May the best inkling win!
@BarryDunne Oh yes! You'll see what happens on the battlefield! May the best inkling win!
Can't wait for this, finally a game since Zelda that i actually want to buy. For 10, it looks worth it.
