With the likes of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe making the jump to Switch, it's pretty commonplace to see fans talking about which other titles could transition from the Wii U to Nintendo's latest system. But what about games that were originally released on the 3DS?
While this particular idea isn't spoken about nearly as much, the recent announcement of Miitopia's upcoming arrival on Switch suggests that 3DS ports are absolutely a possibility. If Nintendo's willing to let one of its own properties jump ship, surely more could follow?

With this in mind, we've gone ahead and created a list of ten games that aren't just great 3DS games, but ones that could actually be better on Nintendo Switch. Some 3DS games may rely too much on the console's dual-screen design or stereoscopic 3D feature to make the leap successfully, but others could well be given a great new burst of life on the big screen.
So, sit back, get yourself comfy, and watch our video above to see which titles we've picked. As always, feel free to share your thoughts on our choices in the comments below.

Make it happen, Level-5.
Oh gosh, I got so excited for a sec because I saw Majoras Mask. Thanks for the videos, they are always quite enjoyable.
Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of my favourite games of all time and I strongly disagree with its inclusion in this list. Its gameplay was really built around the 3DS's controls (which worked perfectly despite what some might say) and I can't imagine trying to play it with any other control scheme. Even gyro wouldn't be good enough. I'd be all for seeing Kid Icarus on the Switch but it needs to be a new game that's built for the system.
Well, considering that they have ported almost all Wii U games to the Switch yet it would make sense for them to start porting games from their other systems to the Switch as well lol
(Like they already did with 3D All-Stars, Skyward Sword HD and sort of XC:DE although that one is a remaster and not a simple port)
OMG Yall baited me into thinking MM was on the switch, Gosh darn it!
I love Kid Icarus’ art style but cba going back to the old pixel releases.. would love this to be ported to Switch.. #freesakurai
Saw this when uploaded earlier. Good video. Do we really need these ported though? Take Rhythm Heaven, why not just make a new one? Also a good few of these are already remakes. Are we that short of ideas? Enough of the ports.
Seeing this video really makes me want to get a 3DS......
The three castlevanias from the NDS, too!!

Does this site think of anything other than ports?
Good idea, redo old games and sell them at £50 a copy.
3d games look better in 3d.
Kid Icarus is a must. I believe the original Luigi's Mansion will get a port as the 3DS one didn't do well.
I'd also want new entries for Disney's Magical World, Nintendogs and Mario + Luigi (RIP Alphadream)
Bravely Default and Bravely Second, maybe Radiant Historia?
I just have to disagree that any 3DS game needs to go to Switch or anywhere else. Nintendo perfected handheld gaming with 3DS. Leave it it’s glory!
I don't want Mario + Luigi Ports @ImagineerNik I want them to bring back the franchise and make an entirely new game, that'd be epic. Also Link Between Worlds is amazing, although I don't think I actually ever beat it because I got a switch and I started having less time to play games
Majora’s Mask is in the unfortunate situation where both the original and 3D versions do different things better. Perhaps a version where they take the good points of both would be worthwhile. Other than that, I already found myself missing the second screen in games like Rune Factory 4 on Switch. I’d rather Nintendo made a new cheaper, dedicated handheld because the price of entry is now exponentially higher than it was last gen.
I would like to see the Zelda 3DS remakes on Switch although I don't understand the preoccupation with frame rates? When I played these games in the original format I didn't notice this - it wasn't a thing. Is there a actual material improvement for OoT gameplay running at a higher frame? This is genuine question - not one intending to be sarcastic. I just don't understand why reviews get held up on frame rates when this wasn't an issue when the game was initially released and reviewed.
I feel like we're asking for it as far as even more ports goes...but would I say no to a lot of them? Probably not. Especially Samus Returns, Shadows of Valentia, and Super Mario 3D Land. My three favorite 3DS games.
Regarding the 3D effect - how many 3DS games were unplayable on the cheap 2DS tablet or New 2DS XL clamshell? Any?
Want them or not, Nintendo will port 3DS games, and DS games, to the Switch. Or the SwitchDS. I still think we'll get one despite it's numerous impracticalities. Maybe in 10 years for Switch 3 the tech will be there for making a Wii U work better.
@FroZtedFlakerZz I don't want a port either, that's why I listed it under the "new entries" section.
I think they could do some amazing things with the joy-cons.
A bundle of all 3 FE14 versions on 1 cart would be cool.
Kid Icarus would’ve been perfect if they’d got rid of the running round levels and had more flying levels
Samus Returns for sure. They'd probably have to remake most of the game though because the graphics are quite crap. Might as well just make a new Metroid.
@Harmonie I think it’s on a lot of people’s minds because some of these games are locked on other systems. It would be nice to be able to play some of these things on a TV, instead of a tiny portable system too small for giant man hands
NINJA APPROVED
Ugh... No. Don't encourage them, guys
Seems like you guys want everything on Switch, every port from any console but never see anyone asking for a brand new game lol
Not a great list if I'm honest, half of them were already remakes on 3DS in the first place whilst Mario 3D Land would get shown up for how simple it is on the big screen. The actual 3DS Zelda would be a good choice as would Kid Icarus if only to fix the controls, Luigis Mansion 2 would be a good choice
@Richardwebb The way something on a tiny screen would translate to a big tv, it would need some improvement to frame rate to make it look smooth and reduce eye strain. I have a 144Hz monitor, which enhances the frame rate and when I go back to my Switch it’s pretty jarring at how stuttery it all looks in comparison.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Yeah the 3D capabilities wouldn't be there but I'd love a console version of the port with the extra levels not found on the Wii version, and without any of the waggle controls.
@GKO900 You’re in the wrong article. If you want to see comments of people asking for new stuff, read the comments on the recent Nintendo direct. That’s where you will find such comments. It wouldn’t make sense for us to ask for new things on an article about ports!
NINJA APPROVED
the first two Luigi's Mansion games need to
be ported over to the Nintendo Switch
@speedyboris I feel like that's almost a certainty at some point. Tropical Freeze is already there, and DKCR was one of the most popular Wii games I'm pretty sure. Hopefully it'd include the 3DS extra levels and maybe some new levels of its own.
@stevenw45 I'd love that. They're great games.
@BloodNinja Locked on a system that was pretty successful and a lot of people own/owned? You see the excuse for Wii U ports has always been "People didn't have the Wii U!" So now what is the excuse for 3DS ports? Seems like people just want ports, and these are just excuses, not reasoning.
BTW, 3DS games can not be straight-up ported, they'd have to receive HD remasters, which requires more work. A 3DS HD remaster here or there is okay, but not anything anywhere near the scale of Wii U ports.
@BloodNinja True but I’m referring to the guys of Nintendo Life and some fans always making this weird articles wishing for every game in existence to be ported to switch and I understand they love the console but come on, and even on the direct some people ask for ports specially the Zelda ports
@Harmonie Yeah, they are locked on a single system. Many Nintendo games are available on several systems, so if you want to play it it's available on something else. Have you seen the prices for 3DS systems lately, by the way? I just sold my 2DS XL, which I bought for $80 a couple years ago, for $200 on eBay because Nintendo discontinued support for the system and the demand is insanely high for them right now. It would be great to be able to play 3DS ports on a full sized TV, so of course that would be a reasonable thing to hope for. The Wii U ports make a ton of sense, because that is a dead system and takes up more space than a Switch, plus the handheld portion of it is tethered to the house. Not sure why you're being so negative about some fairly reasonable hopes and wishes.
NINJA APPROVED
@GKO900 Okay, but if you have this great piece of tech, why wouldn't you want to be able to play more things on it? I owned a Wii U, and that thing felt like cheap plastic. The Switch feels like a premium device and it performs better.
What I don't understand is that compared to other forms of media, like books and movies, that in gaming there is literal resistance to porting stuff to another console generation. I hate that I can't play stuff like Castlevania ReBirth, because it's locked on a shop I can't access. Gaming needs to get better at bringing some continuity to newer media generations, like VHS -> DVD -> Blueray, etc.
The articles that I'm sick of reading, I don't click on and I definitely don't comment on them, just throwing that out there. If you don't like the smell of a trash can, stop smelling it.
I mean, you're literally arguing for things to be less convenient. Oh, this game is only available on Dreamcast. This ones' a PSOne exclusive. Another is locked on Wii U. PS4 exclusive, etc. That's 4 consoles just to be able to have access to 4 games. Wouldn't it be nice if they were consolidated? The answer is yes.

Kirby planet robobot would benefit from a Switch release. If the mech gameplay can be expanded upon for a sequel that would be good and they could release both games. Otherwise the N64 titles and Kid Icarus are the games I’d most like to see.
Please dont give Nintendo ideas, make them make NEW GAMES not ports.
If you want to play these games, play them on your 3DS
I see so much hate for ports but I'm totally cool with getting ports as long as they are good games.
Huge ever oasis fan, I keep hoping there will be a sequel announced.
I’m not normally one to get hung up on FPS (except extreme cases, like Goldeneye’s Frigate, Starfox 64 underwater, or all of Banjo-Tooie), but that text comparison for OoT is astonishing.
HOWEVER - in that one scene alone, I preferred the slower one. The Great Deku Tree is old and dying. He should talk slowly. Rushing through the text seems rude and inappropriate.
I hope, when they decide to port SMT4, I hope they will update the enemies' spirits...they were dreadful even on 3DS
Fire Emblem ports would be welcome thank you. As well as Warioware. Wondering if Detective Pikachu port is still coming, not that after playing it on the 3DS you still want to replay it.
Ever Oasis deserves more love! Glad to see it on this list, hope Nintendo give it another chance with a port and/or sequel!
Truthfully I’d love Yoshis New Island. I’d love another game in the art style of that at least. Just feeling tired of the kiddy craft/yarn approach to the past Yoshi games. Give us the goods of wooly world and crafted world in the original Yoshi art style. I’d love that.
My WishList:
Tomodachi Life (or a new entry would be great!)
Kirby Planet Robobot
Yo-kai Watch 3
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 4 and 6
Dragon Quest 4 to 9
Prof. Layton
Anyone got the list? Hate articles like this where they don’t write them out in the description.
@BloodNinja
This, absolutely.
The reason we see so many ports nowadays is because, well, with every passing year videogames have more history. And we absolutely need that history available.
In the world of PCs, it's a bit simpler because games are simply available on GOG and Steam for years and decades. You may need to patch up some older titles (and there are many gems from the 90s and 80s that rest in obscurity and legal hell) but for the most part, much of videogame history is within reach.
The reason someone downloads Deus Ex every time anyone mentions it — as the meme goes — is because you don't need to "port" Deus Ex. It's just there.
That is beautiful and healthy. I didn't have to play a "port" of Deus Ex when I discovered it in 2007. I just bought it and played it and loved it.
But with consoles, a lot of great games are locked within their specific systems and environments. And that's not healthy for videogames. Not everyone can just purchase every piece of hardware in order to play every console game they might be interested in. Especially if they're old pieces of hardware not even being manufactured anymore.
So ports are necessary and we need to get used to them.
Heck, my entire gaming diet right now — between the original Zelda on the NES app, Pac Man and Tank Force on the Namco Collection, and the Castlevania games on the Konami Collection — is made up of ports of games I've never played before. (Yes, that includes Pac Man. I didn't like it as much when I was a kid, so I mostly ignored it. But Tim Roger's three-hour video on it turned me around.) And I'm thankful for that.
I just want new games and sequels.
I never had a 3DS. Feel like I missed out on some good Fire Emblem games.
I'd like a Dillon's Rolling Western trilogy release.
Side note: would be nice to buy a game ONCE on the eShop and be able to play it on all current and future Nintendo platforms.
@Rygar Awakening is great in some aspects, but terrible in others, but it's definitely worth giving it a go if you get the chance. Fates is just horrible though, the only thing that saves it is the gameplay in Conquest, but the map design in the other two games, characters, story, worldbuilding, etc. is really poor, I'd skip it entirely if I were you!
I want to see Donkey Kong Country Returns from 3DS (with exclusive levels and normal control scheme) on Switch! in HD it would shine even more!
@Richardwebb I think it's something that you'll notice more when the game is scaled up to a bigger screen.
I’m kinda curious to see if it’s possible (which it’s not) to play smash ultimate using the 3ds as a controller
@Beaucine Thank you for seeing some reason in this. I don’t understand why people want things done in a less convenient manner. They say “it takes too much work for Nintendo,” and I’m thinking, sorry but they are the ones who are exactly equipped to do the work, and they are choosing to be selective with how they do the work.
I don’t want to own ten consoles because someone doesn’t want to get their work on a modern console!
NINJA APPROVED
Should have a list of these for Some of us who are too lazy to watch the video.
Kid Icarus Uprising. I know the controls would need a bit of work but it’d be worth it. I hated the controls on the 3DS so would love to see it get tweaked and remastered for a system that could do it justice.
Samus Returns would be very welcome. Should have been on Switch already. Came out after Switch was released and no way was I paying full price for games on that tiny screen by then.
Ever Oasis could be interesting too. Again, late in the systems life and basically sent out to die
Luigis Mansion 1 and 2. Could look great on Switch.
Kid Icarus Uprising is one of my all-time favorite games and I’ve been playing since the early ‘80s. On 3DS, the 3D effect was amazing. Everything, in fact, was amazing and I never understood how they fit so much game into that cartridge. I did, however, often wish that instead of using a stylus, I could just have another thumbstick. Yes, the stylus made for some precise shooting, but you had to be holding the 3DS in a very specific and somewhat uncomfortable way that could be tolerated for only so long. On the Switch, with two sticks, this wouldn’t be an issue. It’d be perfect and play just like all other 3rd-person shooters (which is why someone’s earlier comment makes no sense about only being able to play this properly on 3DS. If that were true, no 3rd-person shooter could be played properly on modern consoles). This is the one game from 3DS that needs to be on Switch and it’s amazing to me that they haven’t ported this masterpiece yet. Let’s start a petition!!!
I prefer playing 3DS games on my 3DS'. I have 3 of them!
NO! STOP! NO MORE PORTS!
Seriously, I'm done with ports. Wii U ports made sense since the console didn't sell well, but 3DS games don't need ports. The console sold great and so did the best games on it. I'm ready for Nintendo to start focusing on brand new experiences again.
@dluxx I have 1 3ds game and like 3 ds games
I pinged wrong
Kid Icarus is awful. It's a boring on-rails shooter with a girl talking A LOT. When yoy get rid of the girl, other girl take her place. You can disable the voices only after you beat that crappy shooter.
I am not opposed to ports in and of themselves, but I get the feeling that if Nintendo continues this practice, it will come at the cost of fresh content. Nintendo will look at the release schedule and say, “”look at all these great games we have coming out!”
@BloodNinja I see your point and I agree that some games do need a second chance in a better console specially games from Saturn like the elusive Panzer Dragoon Saga but I noticed that most of the requested games are from the PS3/360 era not that long ago and from the PS4/xbone if you really care about those games you might as well get a PS4/Xbone those consoles are a port heaven machine, and actually I think the Switch has a lot of potential and I love the idea but the system has to many flaws my system had the drift problem and also died now I’m getting another one just for MH Rise, as for my comment, don’t everyone has the right to post their opinion in the comment section simple as that
I would not double dip for Samus Returns (which has excellent 3D visuals). Especially if it sold for $60 on Switch.
I'd love the later Ace Attorney games (4-6, Investigations) to get a fair shake somewhere other than 3DS and mobile - hopefully the Switch trilogy did well enough for Capcom to port the others. I love playing Ace Attorney on the DS/3DS but seems a great shame to keep them tucked away on older systems for too long, the later games deserve a second look.
Can't say I wouldn't want the 3DS Shin Megami Tensei games to come over to Switch either! A IV/Apocalypse double pack seems like a no-brainer really.
The sad thing is that people actually pay money for these port-begging articles.
if a link between worlds comes to switch, it needs to be at a reduced price or in a bundle with other zelda titles (remastered minish cap, etc.) because it would suck to pay $79 for a game that initially cost like $49 (in Canada)
I noticed you don't have Ocarina of time Master Quest.
Fantasy Life. that game was amazing and truly underrated and would look absolutely gorgeous on the switch. plus there would plenty of room for quality of life improvements as well .Style Savvy would also be a great candidate I think , though I would love to see a new instalment on the switch,
Let’s prepare for some ports from 3ds with 60$. No, i don’t need it, thx though.
i just got majoras mask for the 3ds. havent played the original. but so far i am having a blast. it is a strange game that i couldnt see nintendo making now. only gripes are having to repeat events if i go back in time and zora swimming is just bad. deku hopping is not as bad as people say. you get a boost from swimming. i know it isnt as good but like the video by nerrel he overexagerrated a lot. but it is a great game so far
@FroZtedFlakerZz
i would love a new mario and luigi game. in my opinion best nintendo rpgs ever made.
@speedyboris best dk game
@Harmonie
yeah people want games to be ported then complain that they are overpriced. if its to expensive get it on the og hardware. why ask for a port if thats your opinion. you are spot on
@BloodNinja man it must be tough that nintendo aint supporting a system made ten years ago. have you seen the gamecube game prices. things increase in value when they are not new thats how it works
@Beaucine Totally agree with you. Games being locked to particular systems is what's making it harder and harder for me to get excited for console games as I get older. I don't want my current favorite Switch and 3DS games to become unplayable some day because the hardware is obsolete and failing due to age. It's a big reason I'm hoping Nintendo adopts an upgrade model with the Switch and releases a better model every few years that's still backwards compatible with the previous models (not likely I fear, unfortunately). If they release a new model that's not backwards compatible, and we just have to start from scratch...well, I guess I'll use PC exclusively. I didn't think about this kind of stuff as a kid, but now I don't want to invest in games that I won't be able to play when the hardware becomes obsolete and eventually dies. I want my collection to always be available as much as possible.
@rockodoodle
Couldn't they have a team that works on ports, separate from the main AAA teams? I want Metroid Prime ports. And clearly they didn't need ports slowing down that process, as Prime 4 is still unseen.
@BloodNinja hey man, you're absolutely right. If we could have more games available on the Switch that would be pure awesomeness. Ideally, we would have access to as many old games as possible on the console. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that's actually opposed to the idea of getting more games on the system.
The problem is that there's a growing suspicion among some fans that the ability to port old games to Switch is being abused by Nintendo to save costs and maximize profits. The suspicion is that old games are not only being repackaged as "new" games, but they are even replacing actual new development. And there's a little bit of data to support that. Nintendolife even ran an article showing that Nintendo's output since the Switch started has been lower than with the Wii U when you account for these ports.
Now that those Wii U ports are finally drying up, there is a bit of hope but also anxious uncertainty... Will Nintendo finally devote all their efforts to new development, or will they reach even further into their backlog to continue re-selling us old games at full price, while simultaneously being selective and stingy with the games they decide to give us access to? With Skyward Sword and Miitopia being recently announced, it seems like the former could actually be the answer. That's not a future for the Switch or for Nintendo that I want to support, and I think there's lots of others that feel the same way
@BloodNinja
remember all the talk about how nintendo abandoned wii u owners for porting all the reasons to own one. thats okay for a failed console but the 3ds sold 75 million it isnt hard to get your hands on one. the reason to buy a console is for the games. nintendo makes games as a sort of reward for those who bought there stuff. nintendo does not owe us every game they have made on switch. then having other consoles would be useless
@Zeropulse @Ogbert I enjoyed playing Ever Oasis, but by the end I was getting a little tired of the gameplay loop. I agree that an Ever Oasis 2 would be great.
Yo Jon, your voice is straight up velvet for the ears fam 👍
Like the Rhythm Heaven game, the 3DS got Wario Ware Gold and Mario Party Top 100 (which had some random chance games so it really wasn’t the Top 100 mini games).
@Bulborb We don't actually know if the "Detective Pikachu" Switch game will contain a port of the original. All we've been told is that it will resolve the original game's cliffhanger ending in a way that's different from what happened the movie.
Personally I hope they do port the original since so much of the game's story is very different from the movie (like how Tim's mother isn't dead and Tim & Harry are not estranged).
@BranJ0 sounds good. I love Fire Emblem. I’ve only played Radiant Dawn and Three Houses, but I love the old school tactical battles. I can’t bring myself to purchasing an old 3DS to play the other games (and not tech savvy enough to install ROMs on my iPad). It would be nice if Nintendo either remastered or emulated them on the switch.
If any 3DS game deserves a second life on Switch, it's Kid Icarus Uprising. The game is phenomenal but the control scheme severely limited my enjoyment of it. It's extremely well made and if they pushed it and made a sequel or marketed the series more it could be big just like Fire Emblem went from barely existing to hugely popular outside if Japan. Kid Icarus Uprising was a 10/10 game with a 5/10 control scheme. It worked but it was very uncomfortable and that alone made me not want to play the game. Even though I did play it because the content was really that good. An HD port with a fixed control scheme would make it a masterpiece.
@BenAV What’s stopping Nintendo from changing the control scheme? The Switch has two joysticks, problem solved. I loved that game on 3DS and would be even happier if I had it on my Switch.
@blindsquarel I don’t think anybody was criticizing the Wii U for ports, Wii U was barren of anything good, let alone a port.
@Munchlax They technically already did that on 3DS with the special edition version but a Switch version would be cool even if Fates is one of the most divisive games in the series
@Yodalovesu I agree about the suspicions, that makes sense.
@blindsquarel Ok, were you making a point with that?
Link between Worlds Deluxe is going to be release this year, Zelda's 35 anniversary.
I know this for a fact. A friend of mine have an uncle who works on Nintendo..
Man I would love for all of the tloz games to come out for the switch. And why haven't they remade the original Zelda yet. That's one I would love to play.
I wouldn't want to play Mario 3D Land or any of the Zelda 3DS games in 2D. The 3D added so much to the experience in those games and without it they would feel ordinary. Especially OoT — seeing Hyrule come to life in 3D was a revelation.
@Tandy255 yeah i think that’s fair, but it had a lot of charm and a really nice world. I think a sequel could hone in on what made it so fun and trim some of that fat.
It's completely pointless to port any 3DS game to the Switch because almost all Switch owners have a 3DS as well. They've released many games on both systems, and I haven't bought any of them twice. The New 2DS XL is an excellent handheld from just a few years ago, so I see no reason to port a game from that to the Switch. I'll always have my 3DS in my house. I wish they would port more Game Cube games to the Switch - now there's a console that I do not want to have taking up space in my house. It makes perfect sense for anyone who doesn't have a 3DS system to get the New 2DS XL, because it allows you to play tons of essential games.
@Ogbert True. And I should also give them a lot of credit for creating a new game with a unique take on a couple of genres.
Man there sure is a lot of people against ports lol. I feel some of the DS games could use the HD remaster treatment and there are some 3DS games that could use another shot (like Kid Icarus Uprising). I feel a good compromise would be to make an "x classics" line of games to honor the console the game was originally on. For example, a DS remaster/port could be under the "DS Classics" line or something. That way, the console it was originally on gets the acknowledgment that it deserves and old games can get preserved for future generations. While playing games on their original hardware is nice, sometimes acquiring said games can be a nightmare because they're hard to find or expensive (looking at you DS/3DS Dragon Quest)
Anyway, some DS/3DS games I would like to get the HD treatment on Switch
My 3DS port wishlist:
Ever Oasis (I really think it deserves a second chance)
Fantasy Life
Tomodachi Life
A few people want HD ports of certain games, but that's asking for too much. Nintendo won't make the terrible business move of releasing games to fans knowing that most of those fans have perfectly good versions of those games. Don't believe me? Then just look at the 3DS games that actually were ported to the Switch: Fire Emblem Warriors, Hyrule Warriors, Minecraft, and Xenoblade. Notice that these games were unplayable on the normal 3DS, requiring a New 3DS, which only few people own. Nintendo know that no one would buy Super Mario 3D Land on the Switch, because Switch owners already have an excellent version of that game on their 3DS.
@Kirbo100 The original Luigi’s Mansion was researched to use 3D on the GameCube. It was awesome to replay the game on the 3DS with 3D visuals.
However, I wouldn’t complain if it came to Switch (at 3DS game prices).
@thehoppypoppy My daughter played A LOT of Tamadachi Life. She would agree with you.
At what point do you just let games go? Are we just going to remake/rerelease these things until a carrington event wipes out our electronics? Like, I thinks it fine to have enjoyed a game, remember it fondly, and move on.
Final Fantasy Explorers would be a fun edition to the Switch.
@BloodNinja Great piece of tech? Surely you aren't talking about the Switch. Because the Switch is an antiquated tablet that can't even hit a consistent 30 fps on most games. And don't get me started on drift.
@Ambassador_Kong I’ll be the first to levy the same assessment of the Switch’s performance, and I have regularly done so in these very comments sections. But, if we are talking about 3DS ports, this little thing can handle that (I hope!)
NINJA APPROVED
It would be ideal for the 3D Zeldas to be properly remade, but at the same time, I think the 3D remasters look fine and still hold up well. If they are ported over to the switch - preferably in a dual release with both games on one Switch cart, I'd be satisfied.
Really hoping it happens because I never got the 3DS and I'd much rather check those games out on the Switch.
@CovidBarbie
Games will be remade and remade to utilise new technology and sell to new audiences. Same as happens with Books, Movies, TV, Music, Theatre etc etc
@Classic603 oh yeah, they definitely could. But I think from their perspective, if ports and remakes are selling, they can keep costs down and still generate revenue. If they produce new content in addition to ports, they are flooding the market with their own products. And Nintendo fans are proving that they will buy the same game twice.
Just imagine if 3D Land had been included with 3D World!
@gb_nes_gamer Yeah, finding this game for a reasonable price is next to impossible now!
@avictorao that's a really cool idea!
If they want to keep the stereoscopic 3D visuals, they could always make a head mount with straps.
When Nintendo inevitably brings Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to Switch, I do wonder if they will be the N64 classics or the 3DS remakes.
@DrDaisy They have one...made of cardboard
@arekdougy I'm talking about a hands-free mount that's made of something much more durable and comfortable. I don't know if there's a gyro sensor in the Switch itself or only in the controllers so that could be a slight problem for some users.
I feel like the GameCube has the most hidden gems in need of a port. Everything before it has had Virtual Console releases and everything after is being dutifully moved to the Switch, but other than Mario Sunshine, most of GameCube's games go unported.
Guess there's little hope of you guys actually summarizing these for people who don't want to watch a 13mins video for a list of 10 games.
@BloodNinja I think they are fine as they are on the DS but a good package of all 3 in 1 for a reasonable price would tempt me to purchase it for the switch
So Nintendo are done with Wii U library, and now it is time to regurgitate the 3DS?
3DS sold 75 millions, and people don’t need to (discover) anything they missed.
Stop porting and give us new games. We had nothing since 2019
Jon is so endearingly awkward. I love it.
And I'm in on pretty much all of these.
My list of 3DS games I'd like to see get an HD remaster for Switch...
1. Metroid: Samus Returns
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
3. Super Mario 3D Land
4. Dead or Alive Dimensions
5. Kid Icarus: Uprising
I honestly would love to see a new Phoenix Wright game or a sequel remake of Ghost trick or even an HD remake of the Miles investigation games. Why doesn't Capcom likes money.
@khululy Me too!
I would definitively buy a Collection of Zelda that includes both Twilight and Wind Waker plus Majoras and Ocarina. I don't care if they're N64 or 3DS versions, but I need that collection to happen!!
@rockodoodle
There are a lot of games I would like to replay in an updated format. Baten Kaitos, Metroid (any really), Paper Mario TTYD... I'm Nintendo's prime target lol
@rjejr I thought the entire point of the "3D Volume" was that it should be optional, to the extent developers should consider "off" as a possible amount.
Wasn't the more significant compatibility issues things like the lack of a clamshell on 2DS (creates a problem for the DS Zelda game which required closing the system to progress, I think there might have been other examples) or games using ZL/ZR/C stick (they weren't on the original. And even though Nintendo made an obscure add-on to support them, that add-on was only designed to support its newest model, whenever that was, so OG 3DS buyers couldn't use it, without chopping off part of the case. That's Nintendo thinking about as well as when they sold the original DS Internet Browser, shipping to stores with a prettier memory-expansion cart that was designed to fit only the DS Lite, and asking people to contact them to buy the version with the more compatible OG DS-sized cart.)
Ignoring the fact that it's also on PC, I would love to see The Legend of Dark Witch 2 on Switch, especially in its "Renovation" form like its predecessor that released in 2019.
Fantasy Life, as Magician said, also needs to come to Switch and hopefully if it does, it will include a few exclusive new content (i.e. Letting us wear other clothing over our strongest equipment, to name one).
@Aawill91 Because it'd play like crap with sticks. Way too slow and clunky for the pace of the game. Even gyro aiming which is great usually would be very insufficient.
You need to be able to spin the camera 360° pretty much instantly.
@damien33ad
Congrats! I can't wait till my baby girl can try out gaming lol. Could be a great family hobby. But yeah, TTYD is a brilliant game and I would buy it so fast on Switch
@quinnyboy58 here's the list of games from the video:
@BloodNinja ummm wii u was barren of anything good? You do realize that over half of switch "AAA" games are ports of good wii u games with the net result being Nintendo doesn't bother making new games anymore. That makes no sense.
NOT NINJA APPROVED
@Classic603 I might give kid icarus another go. I won’t rule it out, as I have double dipped. DKTF for chill mode bc I suck. 3dw for friends and new content. Toad for friends and a little new content. And of course MK8D for new content, and different play mechanics with two items.
Mario Kart 8 is the only switch port I have purchased , and it was because the battle mode was so improved and I was able to sell my Wii U copy for 45$. Tropical Freeze port release was an absolute low point to me. I already own and have beaten the game and they added nothing but a cheat mode. A new DK game would be awesome but.. sadly no...
I'd love to see Ever Oasis on the Switch. I probably wouldn't get it, unless they added new material and fixed some small issues, but giving it a real chance to shine would at least mean a sequel would be possible if it did well.
The only one on this list I agree with at all is Samus Returns. It came out so late in the 3DS's life, a lot of people had already moved on, and it would give Metroid fans something to play while they wait for Prime 4. The rest of it is just beating a dead horse.
@15roundTKO I'm not interested in Wii U ports, this is an article about 3DS ports. I said the Wii U was barren because it had literally zero things that I wanted to play on it. Plus, it's library is arguably one of the smallest in Nintendo's history. So, next time you want to try to throw some silly point in my face, ask me what I mean before just blindly commenting.
NINJA APPROVED
Advance Wars
Great video! Rhythm Heaven would be great! And of course the Zeldas.
@BloodNinja
Ok cool
TKO APPROVED
TBH, I think I'd rather have sequel instead of ports of a lot of these games, but it depends on how much they'd gain from them. A Samus Returns style Metroid game could build off of the last 2D title, and have visuals built around the Switch. Kid Icarus could be the same, and the changes could extend to the controls being designed with the Switch in mind.
Ocarina, Majora's Mask, and Star Fox 64 would be better off with ports. It's either that or full HD remakes. Rhythm Heaven's art style would look good no matter where it went, and Ever Oasis may not have sold enough to justify a full sequel-those games deserve ports, but new entries would be preferred.
3D Land and Link to the Past are iffy. They're good games, but I personally think it'd be ore worthwhile to just make new titles building on what they've done. Zelda in particular could do with a new top down dungeon style game, and 3D Land already has a successor in 3D World, so it'd be a bit redundant.
One series I really want to see, but don't have much confidence for, is Dillon's Rolling Western. That was the most successful of the 3DS' original games, getting a whole trilogy and even a physical release in JP and PAL regions for the 3rd game. The problem is how heavily it relies on the second screen for the tower defense aspect, so it would need a LOT of adjustment in an entirely new sequel. As for ports, Pushmo (yes, I'm a dirty yankee) Harmoknight, and Sakura Samurai would be good games that wouldn't need physical releases.
Well i played mario 3d land with 3d off after first 5 minutes. I don't think the gimmick adds too much on the gameplay. This is the best looking game on 3ds maybe but i would like to see it 1080p/60 fps
If something failed with 75-million user base on 3DS, it doesn’t DESERVE a second chance anywhere else.
Nintendo has to make new games, they have only one console in their hands with 80 million owners, and they produce nothing at the moment
I'd love to see animal crossing new leaf ported over to switch. I am dying for more AC. Done everything there is to do in New Horizons.
@Magician That would be awesome! 😊
@KingMike Not sure I followed all of that but I made this 5 years ago, think it gets to the heart of the matter. 😉

@KingMike In my experience, the closest thing to a compatibility problem if you didn't upgrade to the New 3DS (barring exclusives like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D) was Monster Hunter 4 and Generations. The right stick controlled the camera, so if you played it on an original 3DS, you were stuck having to control the camera the same way as in Monster Hunter 3... Left D-pad or touchscreen. Still playable, but both those options are pretty bad compared to having the right stick. Oh yeah, and Amiibo support. I've got two games where the Amiibo are actually worth using; MP Star Rush and FE Shadows of Valientia.
Kid Icarus's controls are fine after you look inside the Options menu and change them to something sensible. After I did that, I had zero issues with the game. Don't get the gripes.
Same goes with Star Fox Zero. The game has annoyances that you could turn off or change to a bare minimum, but it seems most people only focus on the negative and don't try to adapt. Guess I shouldn't be surprised; it is human nature to complain first and possibly ask questions later, lol
@BenAV It’s basically a 3rd person shooter. There are plenty of games just like it on console. Yes, it probably won’t control as well but it would definitely work fine. Switch also has more buttons so one button could be mapped to make a quick and smooth 180 degree turn.
@Aawill91 Nah, it definitely wouldn't work fine.
@BenAV Yeah you’re right, no other 3rd person game ever created can be played with a controller. Great take.
@Aawill91 I'm not talking about other third person games, obviously. Some can work great with sticks and gyro, such as Splatoon. Kid Icarus: Uprising wouldn't.
@BenAV I understand you’re not talking about other third person games but ultimately it’s not different enough from other third person games for touch controls to be the ONLY way for KI:U to be playable.
