Had my pass holder preview last week. They let us in early before our scheduled start time to get a head start before it got a lot busier. Really, really awesome what they accomplished in there. Had a blast and can't wait to go back!
My scheduled pass holder preview at Universal for Super Nintendo World is tomorrow 1pm - 3pm so it looks like I'll be drowning in all things Nintendo tomorrow! While in the midst of that I'll try to catch some of the news. They should broadcast it off Bowser's Castle or something!
The level "Lair of the Blind Ones" in Turok 2. Even WITH an online walkthrough AND the QoL 'save anytime' feature I still got so frustratingly lost. How the hell anyone back in the original release days got past that level is beyond me. I had it back then but even I couldn't get past the 2nd level.
I have my pass member preview reservation for February 8th at 1pm! If I knew these rehearsals would be happening I'd be there all day every day waiting!
I really need to rewatch the movies because I only made it through most of them and just stopped for whatever reason. If I remember correctly I did enjoy them at the time. I was just telling the lady last night we need to watch them all so we can have a better appreciation for the Harry Potter area at Universal Hollywood since we're pass holders. The land is dope but I'm sure I'll enjoy it more once I get to know better what I'm looking at.
Maybe after we do that I will be more inclined to give this game another look.
So excited! As a passholder I'm hoping to secure a sneak preview reservation today when they open up. I'll report back later if I can get one!
UPDATE
The lady and I were able to secure our pass member preview reservation for February 8th at 1pm! Yahoo!!! I'll be sure to load up a few Duff Beers and a Jurrassic World IPA beforehand
@jbreez00 Well that obviously flew over your head. I was quoting a line from the first "Ace Ventura" movie except saying Dan Marino I switched in cloud gaming. I just thought it would be funny and I was confident at least one person would get it.
Back on the subject matter I'm sure cloud gaming works best for some. I just don't want it being the lazy way of porting. The Switch has too many examples of good ports and exclusives that prove its capabilities. Enough said.
I'm surprised no developer has figured out and/or incorporated a way to have different options to choose from for their games. Could make some of them rewards for beating the game on difficulty "X" or something like that.
Situations like this always prove to me how history just keeps repeating itself. This to me is similar when parents were worried about rock n' roll and metal music making the kids rebellious in the 70's and 80's. Not too long ago there was all this hoopla about getting Joe Rogan off the air JUST LIKE what Howard Stern went through pretty much his whole career years before.
Those are just the tip of the iceberg of examples that are out there.
I feel like I'm seeing a Street Fighter crossover a lot more often in the last couple of years. It's like the bean counters over at Capcom just said "f#%k it" and started taking any request for licensing.
Wouldn't surprise me there is a collaboration with a future "Just Dance 2XXX" in the pipeline with Ryu and Co. dancing around.
This game was such a gem it's criminal that it's locked to the past. I remember the multiplayer being so deep and addictive! If this was brought to Switch properly, I can see it being a massive hit just for its multiplayer alone. However, the campaign was really good too!
Having said all that, I must agree with everyone else that the controls would need a major revision.
I've had Bayonetta 3 since release but my job eats up so much of free time. This last week I finally get some time to play some games and I get distracted with...some out of left field indie game called WarPips. It just hooked me and Bayonetta 3 may have been put to the side. LOL I turned on Bayonetta 3, did the Prologue mission...then went back to WarPips.
Prodeus is another one that is distracting me too. I haven't purchased it yet but its on my wish list. If it goes on any kind of sale before I finally get to Bayonetta 3 I'm worried I'll once again push her back again. I've waited so long for her return and it's baffling me how easy I'm getting distracted with these unexpected indie games!
@sevex it's just a tool to abuse people's OCD to "maximize player engagement" at all times. I like to be able to take a break from a game and not feel anxiety.
You hit the nail right on the head. Perfectly well said. Kudos!
@Bizzyb This is how it is now with virtually any industry especially anything entertainment. They'll keep pushing it and pushing it with ridiculous paywalls and the like. As long as the bottom line is on an upward trek no matter what "backlash" they face all that matters is the bottom line. Once that either stagnates or dips down only THEN something may change.
@Gitface You're absolutely right. That game was not in any way a jump scare type experience. Maybe that was the secret sauce. In a lot of ways jump scares are easier to accomplish even in non-scary games.
Pretty much all the sounds in that game were each of their own characters. The radio static, the heavy windy type of music that would play when outside in certain areas, the enemies, all the creaky sounds of the environment, the footstep sounds, I could go on and on. If I remember correctly there were many times in the game where there was no music and just the lifelike ambient sounds of the environment were all there was. Combine all that with the PS1 graphic style and slow drip story development (but done in a way that keeps you wanting to continue on but scared with every forward step) and you had lightning in a bottle.
@Gamecuber Oh wow you totally reminded me about my own Alien 3 game experience. For me though it was the SNES version. For whatever reason with that game the opening intro scared me AND the 'Game Over' screen with the alien looking at the screen along with that accompanying music. The game itself didn't scare me. It was just those 2 parts. Very random but those 2 parts just got me good.
It was a very similar experience to Contra 3: The Alien Wars on SNES. The game itself was nothing. BUT for whatever reason that opening intro of seeing a cityscape, then a big explosion happens followed by a scary looking demon face then it goes silent.
Yeah, I was a weird kid. Sharptooth from "The Land Before Time" even wrecked me
Right off the top of my head is the original Silent Hill (1999) on the PS1. The most interesting fact though I must mention is I technically never actually played it! Back in those days it was pretty common when hanging/staying over at my best friend's house I'd watch him play through games (if we weren't playing 2 player games on anything else). Sometimes it was just as fun to do that together. Anyways pretty much anything from that game scared the bejesus out of us. Most especially the part where you pick up a phone and you hear your daughter crying for help.
It felt like we both were going through such a nightmare scenario...even though it was just a game. Such atmosphere.
I consider myself one of those players that uses builds/weapons (and also looking cool!) based on how much fun I'm having. Not based on having the highest numbers possible in all categories. With that being said I'd like them to tweak the HBG crouching fire to be more like MHGU. I have a Normal shot build that I like to use to mix up the fights and use the crouching fire a lot. However, in its current state it can sometimes be a buzzkill keeping one eye on the heat gauge all the time. In MHGU I LOVED the power run, followed by a cool looking slide and then just emptying a full clip into the beast. Then doing it again. And again. Gave me such a thrill. The way it is now it kinda has the DNA of that experience but definitely is lacking. If they tweaked it more like MHGU I'm confident you'd see more HBG use.
I'm really curious to how all the typical media journos are going to handle this when they took her side immediately and dumped on Platinum before any due process. Kinda reminds me of that infamous CNN broadcast headline "Fiery But Mostly Peaceful Protest..."
@theModestMouse I also got Call of Juarez: Gunslinger as it was on eShop sale for $1.99. Been having a blast with it, definitely worth 2 bucks.
Yeah awhile back when it was on sale for super cheap I picked it up randomly because it was on the bottom of my backlog at the time. Soooo glad I did because there was just something about that game that had me really hooked. There's nothing groundbreaking about it. There's just something to that game that hit all the right notes. I didn't finally put it down till I got a perfect score on every duel.
I was all over Wario Land: SML3 back during the Game Boy days. Really dug it.
However, to show how far back I go my favorite Wario game was Virtual Boy Wario Land. That was a really fun game! I remember being worried I'd go blind playing it because I'd play it for hours at a time (Lol the Virtual Boy had warnings against that all right). It really disappoints me that I didn't see it mentioned up there. Then again, I can understand why it wasn't because I was probably just 1 of 23 people that played it
...which leads me to believe people who are boycotting were never going to buy the game at all.
That statement right there is more accurate to majority of these overnight twitter/social media "boycotts". One of the best ones that comes to mind is when back during the 2016/2020 elections, there was supposedly a "boycott" against Home Depot because some blue-haired twitter weirdo discovered Home Depot did a political donation to a certain orange skinned candidate. That went absolutely nowhere because those that would boycott Home Depot never shop there or even been inside one
Using that logic, I technically boycott pineapple on pizza every day because that's just disgusting
Yeah, ok, I could write a whole dissertation on the subject matter for many Nintendo tunes. So, to avoid all that and just get to the first one from the brain I'm going to go with:
Egg Planet - Super Mario Galaxy
It just hits all the notes so perfectly for an opening level and experience yet to come. The end.
I missed Sunshine during the Gamecube era for various reasons. I think in that time I was so back in forth with console gaming and PC gaming with Unreal and/or Aliens vs Predator 2 (anyone remember Gamespy???). I got 3D All-Stars and was able to get through it. It's definitely rough around the edges and can be finnicky but overall, I did enjoy it. Not my favorite by far but I had fun. There were plenty of areas of frustration I can admit though. And lastly, those blue coins? They can eat my @ss!
I just love how for the box art of NES Contra they straight up copied Arnold's pose for the Predator movie No F's giving they're like "screw it we'll use that".
Argh.....still waiting for General Chaos and Skitchin'. Those were THE most played games in my household on Genesis. We had the 4 player connector so we'd have epic battles with Chaos. Skitchin' was just riot of fun As similar as they were we preferred Skitchin' way over Road Rash.
1080 Snowboarding all the way! I mean c'mon can't wait to get all pumped up from all the memorable tunes from that game Starting with that opening song we all created our own lyrics to, then to the deep voiced "TEN EIGHTY" and finally right into "Work your body, Work your body! Work your body, Work your body! Get DOWN!...."
As many have said already this is by far one of the best Switch games. Ever. It had a steep learning curve but once it "clicks" for you I promise you'll be hooked with its unique gameplay. I was no doubt.
I was hoping they would update the game with an 'endless' mode like Devil May Cry's "Bloody Palace" mode. Even though "Olive's Cases" were kinda something like that but some of the those were insanely hard. I did eventually beat them all but I'd prefer something like a "Bloody Palace" mode to keep it fresh and randomly exciting (and just to see how far I can make it!). Having to specifically pick a challenge makes it not as fun because there's quite a few on there I stay far away from. I usually end up repeating the same ones and it gets old.
This was one of those genre defining games when it released. It dominated our household when we got it. Being one of those first houses on the block that got a N64 this game really had the neighborhood kids knocking on the door a lot just to watch us play it. Good times
Oh yeah this was one of our first N64 games! Our household was completely obsessed with it back "N" the day So hopefully this means we are one step closer to 1080 Snowboarding.
I may be in the minority, but I was a bigger fan of Blue Storm. As much as I do agree with those that have already said a proper sequel is way overdo...I'd be perfectly ok with a HD re-release of some sort of Blue Storm on the Switch
I put a lot of hours into Sega Soccer Slam! Loved that game back in the day. I used to have a huge affinity for games like that. Especially in those days being really into NFL Blitz (2000 was probably my favorite) and Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
@BenAV Seriously. While I do enjoy the game for what it is this is the first MH game (from 'Classic Era' here) where I feel so insanely superhuman and actually feel bad for the monsters. Whether it's our armors/weapons/abilities, skills, etc. for us even the levels are designed to give us as much advantage as possible over the monsters. I purposely don't chase after having all the highest possible gear and numbers (or 'meta' setups) for my armor/weapons to balance the fights some.
Wow did that take me back. If I remember correctly the Japan version released about 6 months or so before the US version. There was a small local video game shop near us that had the Japanese version available to play. It was one of those places that had TV's and consoles set up and you could rent time to play whatever from 10 minutes to like 2 hours or something. My brothers and I would go over there and rent up a bunch of time and play it from time to time. They also were selling the Japanese version that came with the controller. We all debated for weeks we should not wait and put our money together to buy it. In those days we were the "cool" kids on the block that had a N64 because they were really hard to find still. The neighborhood kids would always be knocking on the door to play or even just get a glimpse of Mario 64 or whatever we had. Anyways we didn't end up buying the Japanese version but we wanted to so bad because we knew if we did we'd be promoted to Legendary God Tier status on the block
On a side note though I do find it interesting there are some games that don't allow video captures. Friday the 13th The Game didn't allow video captures. I used to play that soooo much (before they killed the servers R.I.P ) and had ridiculous amount of crazy fun and bad@ss cool moments of being Jason or a counselor (or even just viewing others getting caught or narrowly escaping) I wanted to capture so much! If you tried a message would pop up saying something about "this software doesn't allow it". B@stards!
I do have some screenshots though, but a standalone screenshot just doesn't properly capture the essence and scope of what was happening in that moment.
I have a ton of videos and very few screenshots. My videos mostly consist of MHGU or Rise moments of me dying in a funny way or doing something cool. I also like to capture all my Tetris 99 victories so I can rewatch the intense final battle. Hard to notice how crazy it can be in those final moments of back and forth battling when I'm super zoned in the game with the pieces falling like lightning bolts!
@tabzer Yeah I completely understand the materials system. I'm just referring to the fact that across the board the game tells you they're ready for capture. In the "classic style" of MH games the game did not automatically tell you they're ready. You had to study the monster, be careful and aware of their status especially when they start to limp. The crazy thing is sometimes they'd have all the signs and wouldn't actually be ready and get enraged some. It was a part of the thrill of the gameplay. If you wanted a notification you had to earn it by building an armor set with the capture skill (like Capture Guru from MHGU) or have the proper support cat to tell you the probability (which even then they didn't always do). In Rise there's no skill needed because the game gives you not only the blue icon (I turned that off), their map icon also blinks, and any of the cats tell you they're ready for capture. That's what I'm getting at.
To be honest I'm beating a dead horse with this subject. This was a hot topic of debate when the base Rise game released last year. I'm confident those like me are over it and accepted the change. At this point I totally understand I'm that old guy yelling at the clouds and/or telling kids to get off my lawn
@tabzer Yeah I mentioned in my post that I'm very aware of how the rewards work. I'm just more into the thrill of the hunt and being from the old style of hunting. It wasn't until Rise I was shocked to see how many players now back off in the midst of battle because the notification lights up that it's time to drop the traps. Very often I would be so into the combat I wouldn't realize I was alone because the rest backed off and are now standing by trap(s). Didn't experience that nowhere near as much in the past until Rise. Oh well to each their own I guess.
Being a player from the "Classic" era I'm still hoping they reverse course and remove the tired/capture notification (blue icon and/or blinking map icon). I always look for that in these updates and I hope they bring back capture guru skill. It's such a hit or miss with whomever I get paired up with online but most often as soon as the notification lights up everyone (or some) back off and drop the traps. Even if I try to make it known let's kill it please (way more fun that way!) they still do it. I understand the whole rewards thing but I play this game for the thrill of the hunt not just getting it over with for my prize. Oh well.
Overall, I'm really enjoying this expansion so I'm accepting it for what it is but of all the things that have changed from the previous era that one just escapes me. I wish I could just create a "kill lobby" but you can't even name them anymore. Just generic lobbies. That escapes me too.
I picked up a physical copy the day after release and so far I'm enjoying the little I've been able to play (my job is a total killer of any gaming time ). I hope to get more into it soon.
If you’re the sort of person who floods forums with claims that anything less than a perfect frame rate is “literally unplayable”...
Unfortunately, that's become the new normal nowadays. It's times like these I appreciate living through the Golden Era of gaming and the real Console Wars.
@Serpenterror I'm confident they're doubling down strictly on the nostalgia or that hardcore consumer base that just eat up anything of 80's or 90's "pop culture" cause its TikTok cool or something along that vein.
Of all the off the wall games/bundles to do they pick these ones? I could understand if those games were considered "cult classics" or something but if I remember they're known as garbage. I'm worried LRG next project/bundle will be the NES Back to the Future games...

Re: Poll: What Switch Online N64 Game Are You Most Excited About?
1080 Snowboarding all the way! I mean c'mon can't wait to get all pumped up from all the memorable tunes from that game Starting with that opening song we all created our own lyrics to, then to the deep voiced "TEN EIGHTY" and finally right into "Work your body, Work your body! Work your body, Work your body! Get DOWN!...."
Re: Platinum's Switch Exclusive Astral Chain Celebrates Its Third Anniversary
Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection - The New Gold Standard For Retro Compilations
Sewer Surfin'!!!!
Can't wait to get my preordered physical copy!
Re: Review: Wave Race 64 - A Thrilling Racer That's Still Deeply Impressive
This was one of those genre defining games when it released. It dominated our household when we got it. Being one of those first houses on the block that got a N64 this game really had the neighborhood kids knocking on the door a lot just to watch us play it. Good times
Re: Nintendo Reveals The Next N64 Game For Its Switch Online + Expansion Pack Service
Re: Video: Nintendo Explains How To Download Paid DLC In New Switch Online + Expansion Pack Guide
1080 Snowboarding please! Especially now that I've finally scored a N64 controller. Really makes a difference in the experience for me
Re: Feature: SEGA's Astonishing GameCube Rebound Following Defeat In The Console Wars
I put a lot of hours into Sega Soccer Slam! Loved that game back in the day. I used to have a huge affinity for games like that. Especially in those days being really into NFL Blitz (2000 was probably my favorite) and Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
Re: Capcom Shares Sneak Peek At Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak's First Title Update
Re: Video: Take A Look At The Regional Differences In The Mario Kart Series
Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Nintendo Switch Screenshot?
Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Nintendo Switch Screenshot?
I have a ton of videos and very few screenshots. My videos mostly consist of MHGU or Rise moments of me dying in a funny way or doing something cool. I also like to capture all my Tetris 99 victories so I can rewatch the intense final battle. Hard to notice how crazy it can be in those final moments of back and forth battling when I'm super zoned in the game with the pieces falling like lightning bolts!
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #104 - Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
'MERICA!!! Not even a competition.
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes
@tabzer Yeah I mentioned in my post that I'm very aware of how the rewards work. I'm just more into the thrill of the hunt and being from the old style of hunting. It wasn't until Rise I was shocked to see how many players now back off in the midst of battle because the notification lights up that it's time to drop the traps. Very often I would be so into the combat I wouldn't realize I was alone because the rest backed off and are now standing by trap(s). Didn't experience that nowhere near as much in the past until Rise. Oh well to each their own I guess.
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes
Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Were Restocked Today, Did You Get One? (North America)
I finally got one! I just happen to check while sitting on the can and noticed they were available! Logged in and purchased without hesitation.
Re: Review: Wreckfest - An Absolute Banger (In A Good Way)
I picked up a physical copy the day after release and so far I'm enjoying the little I've been able to play (my job is a total killer of any gaming time ).
Re: Party On, Dudes! Two Bill & Ted Games Are Getting A Physical Bundle On Switch
@Serpenterror I'm confident they're doubling down strictly on the nostalgia or that hardcore consumer base that just eat up anything of 80's or 90's "pop culture" cause its TikTok cool or something along that vein.
Re: Party On, Dudes! Two Bill & Ted Games Are Getting A Physical Bundle On Switch
Of all the off the wall games/bundles to do they pick these ones? I could understand if those games were considered "cult classics" or something but if I remember they're known as garbage. I'm worried LRG next project/bundle will be the NES Back to the Future games...
