Police had to be summoned to deal with a massive crowd of Pokémon GO players following a Lapras sighting in Tokyo's Odaiba district.
Reports of the monster's existence caused hordes of players to descend on the location, with many spilling onto the road and causing a safety hazard. Some have even gone as far as to name the event "Lapras Panic" on social media channels.

According to NHK, the police have contacted The Pokémon Company and developer Niantic to ensure that Lapras doesn't spawn in the same location again, and instead appears somewhere a little safer.
Have you bagged a Lapras in the wild yet? Let us know if you had to brave oncoming traffic by posting a comment.

Lol, Pokemon Go is the gift that keeps on giving and I still haven't dl'ed it yet!
The Apokelypse.
Never seen one in the wild but I've got 2 from 10k eggs.
They should put Lapras around Loch Ness and see what happens.
I found mine in my local park just by chance (must have spawned just as I was walking past, as it wasn't on the sightings list)... seen a couple on the sightings list since, but not been able to go looking for them.
Odaiba? Are we sure it wasn't actually a Digimon sighting...?
@FriedSquid Yes. All of my yes.
My wife caught her second one (hatched the first) and then phoned me let me know!?!?! >:[
@FriedSquid I thought the same, maybe there was a Ikkakumon too.
Ok now this, this one you can blame squarely on Pokemon Go @damo
@LemonSlice
Awesome!
Thankfully we found Lapras from the comfort of our seats in the office
Hatched my first Lapras yesterday. My strongest Pokémon before it was Pinsir with 600 cp, the newly hatched Lapras is 1200.
@Spoony_Tech I guess you deserve some kind of gold star!
I haven't seen one, but I've seen it in some local gyms. I do think it's hilarious how excited people get to catch these things in Go, they're all quite common or easy to get in XY and ORAS.
@Yorumi Exactly.
Good to see Pokémon Go still causing swarms of people! A coworker hatched a Lapras the other day, and I got pretty jealous. I've only hatched Onix and Chansey from 10k eggs so far
@CosmoXY They're popular for gyms because they have a relatively high maximum CP, making it easier to get one with high CP either in the wild or from an egg, and as they don't evolve, all of their candies can be spent on further raising it's CP... giving you a decent gym defender without much effort.
The hordes of people chasing after Pokemon has pretty much stopped here since the schools went back, but it was still funny to watch... especially when you hear them shouting 'there's a legendary' as they run.
Awesomeness just Awesomeness.
I've already got Lapras.
I love Pokémon, but I'll be the first to admit this is kind of getting out of hand.

I mean, what's next?
Not fair - just looked on a certain pokemon map website and it's showing 2 lapras next to each other near Derby, UK!!! WTFluff!!!
@Charlosa Probably a nest... wait until the nests are shuffled again and you might get a Lapras nest near you.
@AlexSora89 Shh. Let Natural Selection do its job.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Your remark is lovably wicked.
@FriedSquid: I thought the same thing! I'm betting it was Seadramon in disguise.
@AlexSora89 Thank you, I try. Seriously though, the lack of common sense I've seen with some of the pokemon go news reports really makes me wonder how humanity survived as a species for so long.
@Ryu_Niiyama
On a funnier note, though, let's hope World War III will only happen through a Call Of Duty GO in which everyone has fun and the only soldiers involved swear like kids who swear like adults.
Don't blame em, Lapras is awesomeness. ;P
Saw a Lapras show up last night on a drive home, but I have kids and we had to get them home and ... really wanted to just park and start roaming. I mean my wife hatched one but I don't have it yet.
Wait, wasn't Pokemon supposed to be dead or something, I know I read about that last week? What are these people doing still playing it? Maybe they didn't see the story yet.
@AlexSora89 geez if they put call of duty on mobile every 11 year old boy on the planet would be playing that. And I suspect parents would find out just how much little timmy curses.
@Ryu_Niiyama

"just how much little Timmy curses"
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF--
@AlexSora89, @Ryu_Niiyama: Your conversation has made my day! XD
@Tyranexx
We're just funny that way, mate!
@Tyranexx Haha! Just trying to brighten up the workday! Right @AlexSora89 ?
@Ryu_Niiyama
The joke was about the Fairly Oddparents' protagonist Timmy Turner, as a follow-up to your one-liner about "Timmy cursing".
The gif (repurposed as an implied f-bomb) comes from the "Pipe Down" episode, and depicts Timmy letting out a silenced scream.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Wait, I've misread your comment as "@AlexSora89 ?" While you meant "right, Alex Sora 89?". My bad!
I've been playing video games for nearly half a century and never did anything that stupid ..lol. In fact, despite being an avid Pokemon fan/gamer, I do not have or want this "game". It's not really a game compared to the real Pokemon games. I think Disney should make an app just like this but where you befriend all the Disney characters. There's hundreds so it would be excellent competition for this. And possibly highlight the fact it's little more than a collecting spree.
My goodness that's crazy... I have found three in the wild and hatched a fourth one. I'm surprised by the rush for that pokémon.
@Savlep99 It depends on where you are. A wild Lapras would cause quite a stir here in Tucson, for example.
@AlexSora89 oh God. What the would-be developers of GTA left us was actually a prophecy...
Speaking of Pokemon Go in Japan: Is it there as hot as it is in Europe/America? I don't hear much about it.
@nhSnork
It's shocking to think the developers of GTA created Lemmings years prior, it's like Video Game Cruelty Potential (term coined by Tv Tropes, of course) was already in their veins back then.
As long as Lemmings GO won't ever be made, though, we should be safe. I guess.
@TossedLlama
I knew I was onto a funny joke back when I first thought it up. Thankfully I was lucky enough to find exactly the GIF I needed!
I hatched mine weeks ago.
I mean, why are they running? Are they running to it's location on screen? There's no need, you can catch any Pokémon from 2 blocks away as long as it's on screen. I don't get it. It's like all these reports in the media you hear from people who clearly don't play the game who think people literally have to be on top of it facing the correct direction or you can't see it. Like apparently people are walking into the road to catch something? If it shows up and it's in the road, you can stand as far away as you like. You can even walk 2 miles the other way and it'll still be on your screen if you tapped on it. You don't need to stand anywhere dangerous.
@AlexSora89 Lemmings GO? Imagine Grand Theft Auto GO! Now THAT would be trouble.
@nhSnork
Imagine a trial for someone who manages to pull off the very same GTA shenanigans in real life...
"You're declared guilty of killing 78.230 civilians, beating up seven prostitutes for money, causing 34.958.980.689 USD worth of damage, and last but not least, conjuring a tank up out of thin air by shouting NAVARONE."
I've caught 4 in the wild. Guess I'm luckier than a basket of Lucky Eggs
