Some rumours have been floating around the internet lately concerning a future update for Pokémon GO. Data miners uncovered data that seemed to be pointing the way to some sort of 'Daily Quest' system to keep players invested in continuous play. Given the evidence, it seemed like a pretty safe bet that this would be coming in a future update, and Niantic has now confirmed that this is the case.
The main goal of this feature is to increase the rewards payout from spinning Pokéstops and catching Pokémon on a regular basis. Here's the breakdown of how rewards will multiply over time:
Catching a Pokémon every day will earn the following bonus:
- 500 XP
- 600 Stardust
Catching a Pokémon every day for 7 days straight will earn the following larger bonus:
- 2,000 XP
- 2,400 Stardust
Visiting a PokéStop and spinning the Photo Disc every day will earn the following bonus:
- 500 XP
- A number of additional items
Visiting a PokéStop every day for 7 days straight will earn the following larger bonus:
- 2,000 XP
- A greater number of additional items
Niantic hasn't said exactly when this is coming, but the announcement suggests that we can expect it to be sometime in the next few weeks.

Looks like I'm going to my local church everyday now
Comments I expect #3
"Yeah Gen 1 baby!"
"This isn't going to make players return to the game!"
"Sounds nice."
"This should of been here from the start."
Wow.
not to many people are playing pokemon go these days
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy
E. All of the above.
So has there been any talk, rumours or whispers of all the other Pokemon ? I'm ok if they wait to spring when the weather gets nicer, I was just wondering if they even had the rights or Nintendo was keeping them for themselves?
I would like it if the XP for catching a Pokemon was tied to the CF. Like, if I'm catching a 300 CF Pidgey, it should be worth more to me than a 15 CF Pidgey, especially because I'm wasting more balls on him.
This is a nice little thing, it'll at least get me popping down to the Pokéstop down the road on days I don't intend to play.
@Diamondhero I don't know. I'm amazed at the number of people milling about in one good area near me. Any time of day we go there is a group of 20-40 people of all ages milling about jockeying for parking (it's getting colder) playing Pokemon GO. I mean, yeah, there are less than when it launched but I'm impressed with its staying power and wide market. This is not a high population density area either.
I have noticed the gyms getting taken over less often which can be annoying.
@vincentgoodwin Yeah, I still get a bit excited at later evolution Pokemon appearing in the wild but it's pretty much irrational because if I've already got one that I evolved or hatched it is going to be much harder to catch and only good for the same candy and experience I'd get with an easy catch. Still, that's part of the game: figuring out how best to manage everything.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy +1 for accurate misuse of "of" in #4
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I'm not going to mention any of the things you've listed but I AM going to repeat a point that has been made before... why is Niantic still throwing out this filler rubbish and not giving us the the BASIC FUNDIMENTALS of the game like trading, fighting or even WORKING TRACKERS that were in the game when many of us started playing?
I'm glad we're getting something new though... just another reason to hang on a bit longer. Just need Porygon & have done for over a month.
@Diamondhero A lot of us still playing are basically too invested to leave no matter how mistreated we feel by Niantic.
@rjejr Rumours are of trading & battling around Christmas but no news about Gen 2. I'm guessing Gen 2 will drop in the New Year if this is correct... trading will let the vast majority of players finish Gen 1 and Niantic can then reduce the frequency the older pokémon can show up to make way for new guys.
@RupeeClock 1 down. 3 to go.
@MetaRyan I'll admit, I spent a good minute trying to figure out how OF was misused.
What would I like? How about some increase to achievements like the catch rate up? Or a tracker improvement, even if it is just a circle around me on the map. Or maybe a way to see gym stats from farther away. Or perhaps a way of getting a second permanent Incubator? Or how about new pokeballs that work much better on specific types?
@Diamondhero 2 down. 2 to go.
@LordGeovanni Actually I was thinking the same thing, if you have your pokémon in a gym you should be able to see the status of the whole gym. Would help you workout whether to save stardust for a pokémon that will be home soon.
I would literally pay for that buddy bonus they had going on during Halloween again!!!!
No challenge there, I do that every day... every week, lol!
Any new changes are welcome, sounds good.
Well it's a nice addition, but unfortunately I don't think I'll get much use out of it since I just don't get the chance to use the app every day.
I can do those tasks 5 days a week on a way to school but I'm too lazy to walk on weekends. And I'm going to drop Go soon anyways since it's becoming too cold outside to comfortably hold a phone in my hands. It has already snowed a little. Winter is coming.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Yawn.
Now this is a nice update!
Finally! Another way to get Stardust! Of course, I think they should just do away with Stardust entirely. They already have a good progression system with candy. All Stardust does is make it impossible to train everything.
No complaints here. Just hurry up on gen 2!
I can't use Stardust to make much useful anyway. Almost everything says my player level is too low. I've been stuck at 22 for almost 2 months I think. I've honestly put time onto it too. That little bar just barely moves. I guess they expect you to dedicate your every waking moment to this thing in order to actually compare to most people in gyms.Not quite worth all that.
This is a welcome change.
Desperately trying to pull people back in. They screwed it up at the beginning and failed to make it interesting enough. Too many of the same pokemon day in and day out, everyone has the same strong pokemon.
Pokecoins would be nice. Refuse to pay and can't get any...
I play daily regardless (can't fall behind), so this is sweet news for me.
A good number of people still play in my area (including my 58 year old mom that don't play video games). It's just the insane/idiotic hype died down to a normal level, like the grand opening of a hyped up store.
@DanteSolablood "trading will let the vast majority of players finish Gen 1"
But if they finish that reduces the need to play, so I would think they would want to get Gen 2 in there before that happens. I'm still wondering if they will sell "Gen 2" for 99 cents or something. Its not much, but if 2 million people buy it, that's $2mil. Maybe make if free for people who paid $35 for that Go Plus that seems to have been nothing but trouble from the start? Seems the least they could do for all the issues.
@rjejr To be honest I've only needed one Pokémon to complete my Gen 1 for about a month now & I'm still playing daily but that's besides the point... if they release Gen 2 before letting most people get towards the end of Gen 1, they risk making ANY pokémon hard to find. There are only a fixed amount of spawn points meaning they either reduce the availability of Gen 1 OR make ALL pokémon harder to find.
Give me gen 2. Then ill be intrestead again!
