@The_Nintend_Pedant I really feel like they could make a "Gamer Edition" or something cringe like that with a controller instead of those Joy-Con things which are way too small and fiddly. I mean I thought it was annoying when the Wii didn't come with a real controller and I never got one until way too late second-hand. Playing Megaman on a Wiimote sucks lol
@chriswashere313 Not including Chinese controllers 50 dollars or less on a sale (shipping varies naturally) which have all these same features and more such as micro-switch analog triggers with adjustable pressure or even screens.
Yeah this feature sure was a waste of internal memory use and time huh. Especially "the kids" I assumed it was aimed for are just going to use I dunno Whatsapp/Facetime instead lol.
@Exerion76 That new Digimon game is looking pretty good, 4K at 60fps on Steam https://digimonstory-ts.bn-ent.net/
@Pillowpants It's the laziest possible way to change the design, I don't even know that much but wasn't there one "gen" BoW maybe where the Pokemon actually had bad*ss, threatening looking final evolutions. Can be themed differently but "make shiny with gubbins on head" is pretty awful
There has to be things to talk about that aren't this guys. Someone posted in another thread about area codes round the Isle of Man not working for Game Chat, cover that. E: Not the commentators, the writers.
@Faucet Hey if Cyberpunk is any indication there won't be an apocalypse, just a nihilistic future where nation-states have collapsed except as excuses to oppress citizens for the favor of our true corporate overlords, those who live in fear only of death and their financial lines going south. Luckily we don't live in a world anything like that. E: Btw I have nothing against Americans as one but you gotta call out your dumb little brother when he gets drunk and sh*ts the bed or do you really care about him?
@Laxeybobby Lmao the entire f'ing Isle of Man can't use Game Chat, a feature they're paying for if they're a Nintendo Online member? This needs to be a way way bigger story
@N00BiSH I'm just curious but if Martinet had been replaced by someone who does a better job then the new guy in your view, would that have been fine?
I'm mostly fine with this but the way the news is just kinda... trickling out like a leaky faucet is kind of strange. It would seem like a sign of respect to me to formally announce a cast change even if it would be a bigger punch in the moment.
Finished this on GoG in like 2020, it's a good game but I don't feel the need to ever replay it really. There's some really really bad parts, Orc Caves anyone. Mask of the Betrayer is dope though.
E: Also Neeshka is peak but no romance, bah.
@HotGoomba ...it's not supposed to be that color..........
E: Also I posted the "Renee Rapp KCA pic" but it'll legit get me banned on here probably lmao, hey I didn't take it.
Looks like the cheap shallow kind of crap N specifically went out of their way to not make during their mobile phone days. E: Yes Gamefreak is different company and so on.
Seeing all the consternation over cast changes when Sonic has already gone through three and will probably have another one soon is never not hilarious. And yes I do have to wonder the union status of these new actors considering we just got out of a SAG-AFTRA strike. E: Website skin changing to pink for Peach, blue for Sonic etc. is a cute feature, wonder how many characters you've designed it for.
@Phil_Kil That would've helped sales a bit but there's no way they could pull of young Hans or Lando. As someone who played it some and thought it was like a solid 6 or 7/10 they should've had a more interesting original protagonist than the one in who was peak "generic wide-eyed slightly rebellious 2010s female character".
"he'll be ready to return to the likes of Mario, who, we think it's fair to say, has changed a little bit since the last time Mr Cox had a blast." ...has he really though?
@MindfulGamer I do sometimes wonder if those Nintendo/Pokemon and other franchise-branded planes have themed barf bags, I imagine not but it would be good for vertical brand integration.
That picture of someone laying on the f'ing ground with the Virtual Boy strapped 'round their noggin is one of the funniest images ever, one of the only ways they could make that thing look comfortable and it was dumb as hell.
Vagrant Story - Superhot is a really cool sounding combo and to the dev's credit I understood their similarities instantly. I'm usually against just comparing your game to different things in promo but I can't really think of much of anything that's done Vagrant Story - Parasite Eve style combat so fine by me.
@Aphonic The Nintendo Master Race... this literally always comes up with FPS discussion, at least one a-hole N fanboy (the toughest people in the world of course lol) will just call everyone suffering from motion sickness liars or p#ssies. Wonder if he'd have the gall to actually go in that thread and tell everyone that or just sh@t-talk them behind their backs from his safe-space.
@CaleBoi25 Just try and remember why you liked Marvel, Pixar, and Nintendo in the first place. If it was for good reasons and not just shallow things like hype, you never have to justify yourself or your tastes to anyone. You are allowed to enjoy the things you enjoy no matter how society treats you for doing so.
@Ryu_Niiyama You do know sales analytics is something you can study and go to school for right, and a huge part of determining stock values, or do you think every single person who analyzes N's sales without being part of the company is an "armchair analyst".
@OorWullie I don't like that thumbnail. Frankly most of the "additional detail" you mention is a lack of anti-aliasing, some people prefer that kind of thing but look at 7:51 and tell me the jaggies and shimmering on the monster's coat on Switch 2 doesn't look worse. There is some additional detail on the ground which is interesting, but specifically only in that one frost area, in the forest area shown first the Switch 2 version very clearly has less foliage, outright lacks puddles that are there in the Pro version, and has an uglier anti-aliasing solution and lower quality textures. It seems to me like the dev team going back and touching up an area (the frost one) they were unhappy with.
Also, I would point out the Pro version has a fog effect in the area that seems completely absent on Switch 2. Note at the same timestamp above, there is fog in the trees in the background which is completely absent on Switch 2. This would add additional, and completely sensible, blur to the picture on Pro, with the Switch 2 is lacking only because it doesn't have the effect at all.
Frankly it seems clickbait-y to me, I've seen this channel around and it seems fishy. I trust Nick930 and yes DF more. Are people passing it around because there's no commentary?
@Ooyah Don't mistake quotation marks as condescension, but "missing the point" of what? Does something as subjective as enjoyment of a game, franchise, console need to be formed as a consensus? All beings in this world derive enjoyment from their surroundings in different ways, and outside of the boundaries set by society's morals and laws we are unable and should not try to regulate people's emotions unless they themselves make the choice to do so- not hopeless at all, many have made the choice to better themselves. But if they do not, as messed up as it is, if a person derives enjoyment from trolling and negativity, there's nothing that can be done about it other than, like the mailbox notes, to learn to separate it from legitimate, objective criticism.
E: ""The noble type of man experiences itself as determining values; it does not need approval; it judges, 'what is harmful to me is harmful in itself'; it knows itself to be that which first accords honour to things; it is value-creating." - Nietzsche
I'm not calling out the writer of the star letter at all, in fact I understand their feelings, but learning to separate your opinions and general view of the world (a great, mostly untranslatable German word exists for this, "Weltanschauung") from others is one of the key ways to find some modicum of happiness in a frankly really harsh world. I would ask, for all the negativity surrounding I dunno the Switch 2, Marvel if you like that stuff, Pixar etc., why is that content created if not feed that need in the collective human psychology? Youtube views, SEO, momentum on social media, so much of it is objectively based on negativity, bullying, false feelings of superiority.
Instead of getting bent out of shape the content exists and wrapping yourself in a mental Gordian knot over human nature, specifically take yourself to optimally outdoors communities where you can very easily find abundant examples of healthy human spirit, not the gunk festering in so many places online.
Playing new Smash in its Classic mode just going through chars to clear and high score hopefully. Really can't be underestimated how charming and well-put together that game is, I take screenshots during almost every match because there's some kinda fun animation, taunt or face. I don't blame Sakurai if he isn't involved in the next one though, it must be so intense to develop.
@spiderman0616 @The_Nintend_Pedant I mean being a bit overly verbose is something of a favorite trait of the pedant/pedantic folks XD Just joking around!
@AllBLK I mostly agree with you but I will say in comparison to the others John gets too much into editorializing with his opinion, only real complaint I have.
Anyway most of this is fine by me except dropping to 30fps on that boss fight, even just happening once is a bit bonkers. But yes 90% of people overall won't care.
@Yalloo: Families who want to get into a new fantasy franchise? I wish it was animated like the vocal minority here probably does but it's a sad fact live-action remakes have been making crazy money recently (yes Snow White is the exception).
@Spider-Kev Who's your fancast for Tom Bombadil and his weird elf chick waifu, they have to be appropriate ages when the movies were being made. Rob Reiner and Kate Beckinsale, ah that would've been move magic huh.
I will give my gameplay impressions specifically to deflect Bridget talk. HP values do seem too low in Strive, like lower than SF which has relatively low values in FG terms, I have definitely seen matches end just as they were getting good due to this. Also the wall system does just seem very weird, visually cool but basically disincentivizes aggression in a really weird way.
On the other hand as someone who isn't great at FGs but does try to get good, and who isn't against complexity, you do gotta admit the like five different counter colors amidst all the other systems in the last non-Strive entry was a friggin lot. I won't whine about it but by the ending of the story mode I was getting annoyed at the idea of basically taking a university course to understand the game's friggin rules, not every FG requires that. Also sorry for not being a long-time GG fan but I do still find the designs of both the characters, backgrounds and animations in Strive visually gorgeous.
I'm mostly sold by the mentions that there's a lot of variety in both gameplay and visuals across the game, my worry was that the destruction would feel overly samey over time. I will say that it seems to people with er... certain neurodivergences that derive enjoyment from cleaning and clearing an area, AKA the people who really really enjoyed SM Sunshine, will have that area of their cerebral cortex scratched super well (speaking as someone who found the muck-cleaning mostly tedious).
@axelhander Reminds me how the weird elves were the worst part of The Dark Crystal and I mostly just wanted them to shut up so we could get back to the Skeksis.
@AussieMcBucket BF was a pretty special series round that time, so many memories crouching low as a jet sends a supersonic wave overhead or a mortar bombards a hill, feeling like an ant, just like real soldiers. It's only really gotten worse since, there was a vid on how the most recent one has terrible physics and collisions compared to the ten-year-old entries, tanks just glide over the ground without any sense of physicality, embarrassing...
@AussieMcBucket It's a mystery. Battlefield Bad Company 2 and 3 had the best destruction in the series before it was subsequently nerfed in basically every game. Actually being in a house as the supports collapsed due to explosives was so f-ing dope.
@Samalik I won't argue your subjective reasons for preferring those games, it's basically impossible to argue "vibes". But I dunno, I mean the newest Street Fighter has done plenty of things with the characters I haven't liked (they "nerfed" Juri, RIP) Luke is kinda gross I wish there was way more SF3 stuff (Ibuki where) and the music is dogwater but it's still like fun to play at the end of the day, make Ryu do Tatsumaki brr, it's not that deep. E: When it comes down to just being fun to pick up and play without extraneous BS (if you're not getting stomped lul) I still find FGs to be one of the "purest" genres.
@Samalik I don't think I can contribute much more without knowing more about how Steam aggregates tags. Not to be a smarta@@ but for example the recent Castlevania Dominus Collection is tagged as a 2D Platformer, someone who for some reason hates 2D could just specify that and still get 3D Platformers I think, unless they just blanket blacklist "Platformers". I'll admit I don't use the feature that much though, I think I have like three or four tags blacklisted.
@AussieMcBucket It is basically true, games were moving towards really robust destruction physics round that time then just... stopped for some reason.
