Re: Poll: Do You Want Weapon Degradation To Return In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Euler

The durability system is a critical part of the challenge and improves the game experience. It encourages strategy and using the right tool for the job rather than just rushing in with brute force. One can especially appreciate this in Trial of the Sword, specifically the Master Mode variety, in which every weapon must be used wisely against the strong enemies that can regenerate their health. The weapon system reminded me a bit of the power-up inventory from Super Mario Bros. 3, in which limited power-ups that can give you a real advantage added depth that wasn’t there in the original game (or in World, which effectively has unlimited power-ups with its replayable levels and bonus areas). It wouldn’t be the same if you got access to a permanent P-wing and hammer suit halfway through.

Through blood moons and marking spawns on the map, good weapons are always readily available and they will get better as you explore more and level up. And for people that really don’t like it, the fully upgraded Master Sword lasts so long that your other weapons will be burning a hole in your pocket by the time it breaks (recharge time is pretty generous too).

"You're welcome to state that you won't be buying the game for these reasons, but otherwise remain on topic of the game itself."

Hypothetically, if someone were to self-righteously declare that they're going to buy the game because they're a big fan of JKR and her outspoken defence of women's rights, would that also be allowed?

Re: Talking Point: As Switch Hardware Sales Slow, How Long Can Nintendo Delay 'Switch 2'?

Euler

2026 or later, if ever. It makes sense for sales to slow down because the number of people that want a Switch but don't already have one can only go down as the system has been on the market for longer. Graphics are as good as they're ever going to get, there's no need to stop releasing games for anyone that doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new machine that does the same thing. As it is, profits are minimal on hardware (Nintendo is an outlier in that they even make one at all). The games are where the money is.

Re: Feature: The Best (And Worst) Selling Games Of Nintendo's Biggest Franchises

Euler

@Kestrel Everyone that was alive at the time could potentially buy them, because they had the option of buying the console. If a console has many great games for people of all tastes, it will have more appeal and sell better. People buy consoles for the games at the end of the day.

@KingMike There’s nothing wrong with including pack-in games. A game is chosen to be part of a bundle because it is an E-ticket game expected to sell very well (and usually it’s not included in all console bundles or throughout the console’s whole lifespan). If the bundled game underperformed, they would replace it with a different one.

Re: Talking Point: If Breath Of The Wild 2 Launched Alongside New Switch Hardware, Would You Upgrade?

Mario Kart 8 DLC is being released until the end of 2023. That's the earliest possible date the next console comes out, though it will probably be even later as Mario Kart 9 is long overdue so they'll have to release it as a launch title. But as it is now, a new console is unnecessary. Graphics are already as good as they're ever going to get (improvements between generations are more and more marginal), the Switch is still selling very well (beating its fellow Ninth Generation consoles despite coming out 3.5 years earlier), and most Switch owners want Nintendo to continue supporting the system until 2026 or later.

Re: E3 2022 Is Officially Cancelled

Euler

"That doesn't mean that this Summer will be devoid of long, ad-filled game announcement streams, though, because Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest is still going to take place — and it looks like Keighley is aware that E3's crown is up for grabs, since he tweeted this just seconds after the news broke"

But none of these fake E3s ever have any news from Nintendo, and summer 2020 didn't have a big direct even though E3 was cancelled. Though they at least have many games lined up for 2022.

Re: Soapbox: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

Euler

@Mallow How is digital not "ownership forever"? It's inferior to physical copies because they have no resale value and you have to use your own memory cards, but you still own the game and can play it whenever you want. You lose it if your Switch ever stops working, but that goes for just about any product you buy (be it a physical Switch game or a lawnmower).
