It's been a decent year so far for video games - with titles like Elden Ring, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. There's also plenty of games to look foward to later this year and in 2023.
To get an idea of what's popular within the video game community right now, Twitter has once again rounded up some data - revealing there were approximately 1.5 billion tweets in gaming in the first half of the year.
So without further ado, here are the most tweeted about games (globally) so far this year. As you can see, The Legend of Zelda made the cut... we're guessing it might have been something to do with Nintendo's announcement in March this year that it would be delaying The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 until 2023.
We've also included some of the other gaming-related Twitter facts:

Most Tweeted About Video Games:
- Genshin Impact (@GenshinImpact)
- Wordle
- Ensemble Stars! (@ensemble_stars)
- Final Fantasy (@FinalFantasy)
- Project Sekai (@pj_sekai)
- Apex Legends (@PlayApex)
- Elden Ring (@ELDENRING)
- Fate/Grand Order (fgoproject)
- Valorant (@PlayVALORANT)
- The Legend of Zelda (@NintendoAmerica)

Countries Tweeting the Most About Gaming:
- Japan

Twitter also included the "top 5 most engaging gaming communities, and in second place was the Splatoon community. The third game will arrive on the Nintendo Switch later this year.

Good to see Wordle is the second most popular game in existence. 😝
I admit to not having tweeted about any games so I'm not doing my part to get Switch games on the list.
That would would explain why Genshin never got ported, there’s literally no need.
Is Korea also a primarily PC market?
I don’t use Twitter, but if I did, Dark Souls and Elden Ring would have reached #1 by my hand alone.
NINJA APPROVED
Wordle for the w1n - almost
Question : What do you think of the "most tweeted about games" on the platform in the first half of 2022?
Me: I don't even care about those games above.
I don't like popular games like that.
@Screen
Ironically, it probably would've been easy money if they ported it.
I love the fact that Wordle is considered a game. Considering how many people tweet their grids,, it’s ASTONISHING Genshin beat it, because it doesn’t have much to do with social media… what do people even tweet about it?
Every time I see that BOTW 2 screenshot I get my hopes up. ;-;
But I’m happy to see wordle up there, glad it’s still fairly popular.
@Screen Yeah, pretty sure Korea is dominated by PC players
When did people start considering wordle a video game.
That is all.
Where the f--- is Gubble?
@BabyYoda71 I don't really use Twitter much myself but I'm assuming it's mostly about new characters, especially leaks. Being a live service game it kind of has the edge since it gets major content updates every 6 weeks so it can stay relevant. Still, it's pretty crazy how absurdly popular Genshin is for being a pretty niche adventure JRPG. You'd think it would have lost some steam, but banner sales have been better than ever and even the trailer they dropped yesterday has been floating at #1/#2 trending on YouTube and has already become Genshin's top liked YouTube video.
Half of these I haven't even heard of.
Really impressive for Zelda considering a Zelda game didn't even release this year. Pretty sure all of these other games released this year or had some sort of content updates.
@HotGoomba Tell me you're a Game Grumps fan without telling me you're a Game Grumps fan.
@Maulbert Actually got it from JonTron.
@Cynas Oh that makes sense… I play Genshin and I hate the amount of leaks there are.
A Zelda game with no title made the list (perhaps because it got punted to 2023)? That's... something I guess?
Zelda BOTW is bigger than Nintendo gives it credit for. I mean the game has sold over 25 million copies and its constantly being called the greatest game of all time. People are salivating over the sequel as it looks to capture the same magic the first one had. Since Nintendo's been so mum about BOTW 2, any news on the game will break the internet.
@Royalblues That's only because Apex mobile is new.
@Euler You realize Zelda is more than just the bad BoTW spinoffs, right?
elden ring should be number 1 by far but japan seems to only care about switch games only..
@SteamEngenius
Even as big as The Legend of Zelda fanbase is, there is really no doubting that the majority are interested in BotW2 and have not really consistently tweeted out other games outside of BotW. Even AoC got swept under the rug, as closely related to BotW as it currently is.
Project Sekai!
Only one I care about is Zelda.
Patiently waiting for the day genshin dies. Also apex is probably 99 percent people complaining about the game because it's a little buggy right now.
“It's been a decent year so far for video games” - decent at best yeah…
The other half probably tweeted about "trump 2024", "hunter biden laptop" and "January 6 hearings". Lolz
@Royalblues as of march 2022 the game sold a million units in japan which is better then i thought.
Makes sense that Zelda would be in the list. There was the BotW 2 delay announcement back in March but also BotW 2 is the first thing people cling to whenever rumours about a Direct or Switch Pro appear and there's been a lot of those this year so far. Outside BotW 2 there were those rumours about the Wii U ports or Oracle remakes coming.
Hype for Breath of the Wild 2 on Twitter must be insane if it's a top gaming trend a year before launch, before we even know it's official name.
Genshin and Valorant is very popular here in the Philippines. I am pretty sure approx. 90% of the tweets from here are about those two games. Quite happy to see that the Splatoon community is very much alive. It is a fun and enthusiastic bunch IMO.
@Royalblues 100% agree. The recent ALGS championship also shows that Apex as an eSport is on the rise as well. Very exciting and fun to watch.
watch BOTW 2 become the most delayed Zelda
