Re: New Metroid Dread Report Outlines 7 Points That Define The 2D Saga

@Stubborn_Monkey It’s a good game, to be sure, but none of them have even sold 3 million copies. It’s more internet-popular than actually one of Nintendo’s core series. It has good potential though, especially with the Switch’s success, which is why Nintendo is right to appeal to the broadest audience possible.

@marandahir well put.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

Good discussion. Yes, Metroid is one of those series that is more Internet-popular than it is in reality (see also: Star Fox, F-Zero). Case in point, Mario Odyssey has sold better than all Metroid games combined. But it does have potential with the Switch, and Dread or Prime 4 (which will probably be cancelled again if Dread doesn’t sell decently) could finally achieve E ticket or near E ticket status like Luigi’s Mansion did. Worth watching for sure.

@SaveDinos What “insurrectionist party”? I’ve been reliably informed that overthrowing the US government would be impossible unless you have nukes and F16 jets. A couple of unarmed clowns rioting at the capitol for a couple hours (and causing far less carnage than the “fiery but mostly peaceful” protests endorsed by the current vp) does not an insurrectionist party make.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Nintendo Direct At E3 2021?

Solid 7/10 for me. Their best direct in a while. Zelda is too far away but at least we got something. Also looks like they’re not making a completely pointless new console, nor is there a rehash-filled 35th anniversary Zelda. Warioware looks good, as does the new Metroid.

Re: Talking Point: How Good Are You At Games?

"We've written before about how modern difficulty settings and optional aids are nothing but a positive, and yer man Chris Scullion penned a soapbox last year saying there's no shame in pros playing on Easy."

Well, this is obviously not true. If it really was nothing to be ashamed of, you wouldn't have had to write an op-ed about it. If you're explaining, you're losing.

Yeah, I agree with the Santa Claus theory of the Zelda timeline. That is to say that in Hyrule canon Zelda may be very loosely based on a real historical figure (like St. Nicholas), but it’s more of a legend that the hero will rise again during every period of national strife (just as Santa Claus will come to deliver gifts every Christmas) with the legend developing and getting more details over time through fables and carols.
