We've seen Ryu and his buddies from the Street Fighter series in plenty of fighting games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the SNK titles over the years, but this latest crossover is slightly different.
Instead of another fighting game, this time he'll be transported into the world of Fortnite alongside Chun-Li. To celebrate this collab, Epic has released a special trailer showing the character Jonsey entering the universe of Street Fighter and dropping the pair of video game veterans into the battleground.
According to the Fortnite website, both of these hunters are available now in the Item Shop. Each one comes with an alt outfit:
"Master of the Dragon Punch (a.k.a. “SHORYUKEN!”) and hailing from Japan, Ryu is ready to fight. Select between his traditional white gi, black belt, and red headband or Battle variant. Always ready for action, the Ryu Outift comes equipped with the Training Bag Back Bling and the built-in Shoryuken! Emote."
"Alongside Ryu, the self-proclaimed “strongest woman in the world”, Chun-Li, is ready for the competition to kneel before her. Players are sure to get (many, many) kicks out of the Chun-Li Outfit and Nostalgia Variant. As a tribute to one of gaming’s greatest arcade games, she comes equipped with the Super Cab-Masher Back Bling and built-in Lightning Kick! Emote. Complete her look with the Seven Star Flashing Flail Pickaxe (sold separately)."
"The Ryu & Chun-Li Bundles also include the “Player Select!” Loading Screen. Separately, the Ryu & Chun-Li Gear Bundle includes the Sumo Torpedo Glider and two Pickaxes: the Seven Star Flashing Flail and Signpost Pummeler Pickaxes."

That's pretty interesting, but I have no interest in seeing Ryu and Chun-Li get depicted like that.
They both look whitewashed.
Why??
You think this is the strangest game Ryu has crossed over to?
Look up American Dad Vs Family Guy Kung Fu 2
It looks like different people are cosplaying as Ryu and Chun Li. They don't look right.
Look at how they massacred my girl...
Ryu looks fine if a little on the slim side but man, Chun Li is competing with her MvC:I counterpart in who's looking more off-model...
And seeing that they're genuinely asking ~22 bucks for a set of skins is baffling...
Well, not as baffling as the fact that people are actually willing to pay these prices...
@X68000 They've always been light skinned: https://iili.io/fjObaI.md.jpg
@Clyde_Radcliffe not so much in colour but in their facial features.
They look far less Asian and more like Westerners.
Is it just me or does the new Ryu sprites in the trailer looks really off?
Ryu with a gun is pretty off, Its still pretty cool.
@X68000 but does that count as white washing?
@Silly_G I'm here for you man.
@Snatcher I’d say it does.
They have stripped the characters of their defining features and gave them a more neutral western look.
Chun-Li no longer looks Chinese nor does Ryu look Japanese.
"Sold separately"... Epic's favourite words.
I have nothing against Fortnite, but I got excited seeing the screen, thinking we might be getting more proper SF. Gimme some Alpha 3 Max, or Ultra 4 ffs. The arcade collection is amazing and all, but GIMME MORE.
I wanted chun li in smash.
It's what everyone wanted. Chun-Li and Ryu with guns.
Hmmm...
Is Fortnight now the biggest crossover game in history?
Yeah this is white washing. Urgh.
I feel like it's only a matter of time before some Nintendo characters get this treatment. Mario also got into Minecraft after all albeit only on Nintendo platforms.
Then again I don't know a lick about Fortnite, are these just skins or do they come with their own movesets? If the latter then they probably couldn't put Nintendo characters in the game due to crossplay. If the former then these characters would probably just show up as standard costumes in other console versions.
The best looking ryu is from 2 games. Smashbros and the latest streetfighter. Awesome game that is.
But this looks like someone from the backstreet boys, or the Guy from Karate kid 🤣💪
Will you be returning to Fortnite to see Capcom's legendary Street Fighters in action?
No.
@The-Chosen-one Daniel LaRusso for smash
I'd love to know how these agreements happen. Is it a flat fee or are they paid percentages of the themed items when purchased?
Okay, now this just getting silly. I mean, who’s next, Trump and Obama?🤪
I don’t understand. Isn’t this a shooter? If so they should have put in Balrog/M.Bison/Boxer instead; he has been seen with guns. Granted, Chun-Li is a cop/Interpol officer so maybe they will play with that. Ryu though is weird.
So....Marvel vs Capcom 4 isn't a PlayStation exclusive, nor an Xbox or Nintendo or even a PC one. It's a Fortnite exclusive. With guns.
Oh goodie.
I mean cmon! It should have been guille. He’s an army guy so him having a gun makes sense.
There is plenty of official art where they look “western”. In Tatsunoko vs Capcom they both look more western than in Fortnite.
Im sorry but this is just stupid at this point
I've always wanted to see Chun-Li and Ryu use guns so this should be interesting. 😒
Never saw this coming...
Chun Li and Ryu don't use guns.
Why is Fortnite stilll a thing?
We see you like Street Fighter so we put street fighter into Fortnite so maybe you'll like Fortnite now?
Me: ...no!
But can Fortnite please die already? Sick of seeing that game everywhere.
