Ultra Sun/Moon is starting to look better... but it's still underwhelming so far. I've never bothered to get any of the third versions other than Yellow.
That said I'll probably still get Ultra Sun/Moon. Hopefully they do something drastic like add more alola mon from gen 2, or reintroduce mega evolution.
Now is the time to buy a Switch if you can. I have a feeling it'll be even tougher to get once Mario comes out and the holiday season truly starts.
I finally got myself a Switch will Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. (Never owned or played the Wii U version.) I'm loving it. I'm also still in shock at how small everything is.
The other day, my wife and I were playing an intense grand prix on the Mute City stage when the power surged and everything went out... Except for the Switch. We were able to continue the grand prix and get that 3 star rank. All because the Switch has it's own power storage amd can switch to portable mode instantly.
$8 really is too high for something like this. It's a game that most of us have played multiple times, sometimes for free in different iterations. It was on the Atari and the NES. It was remade for Super Mario Bros 3. It was included in every GBA Mario Advance title, including Superstar Saga. ( These are the versions I owned and know of )
Yeah, $8 is not a lot of money, but this is something that should either be in a bundle, or at least priced between $3 and $4. They could grab so many more sales at a lower price point, but they choose not to.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not necessarily. The added cost in developing a Wii U version would probably offset a good chunk of the added sales profit. Although I know you and I probably would have bought it on Wii U if it was available to us.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Those 13 million Wii U buyers aren't all active on the system anymore, where the 6 million Switch owners for the most part will be since it's still new to them. The gap is closing fast.
Trust me I'd love for us to get more Wii U support but it's just not gonna happen when you consider the Switch will be past it in a matter of 6 months or so. Hopefully you get your Switch by October for Super Mario Odyssey! That's what I'm waiting for myself.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah.... That's definitely a sore spot for this one. I went ahead and bought Pokken on Wii U and was pretty disappointed. Getting some extra characters would have at least made me feel a bit better about the purchase.
@RadioShadow I also use Homebrew. If I can get my hands on a SNES / NES Classic Mini I'll have the perfect controllers to use with Homebrew too. Although if these mini consoles are hackable I might take advantage of that too...
Calling a game "very bad" because you couldn't get a grip on the controls? Sounds like a personal problem to me, lol.
Sunshine isn't without it's faults of course. But to this day I'd still give it maybe a 7.5 out of 10. It's a good game regardless of a few camera issues. And yes, I played this game recently to show to my wife and we both enjoyed it.
@ValhallaOutcast lmao. Actually I meant in regards to other games. If this is something that say, 1 in 5 Switch games require then we could have a problem on our hands. Imagine if Super Mario Odyssey or Metroid Prime 4 required an additional download to play past the first area. That's what I'm talking about.
Edit: To be clear, I'm pretty sure my comment is an extreme example, and I doubt it's going to be something we'll have to deal with. Just a thought. If the eshop ever closed and those required downloads were no longer available it would effectively turn our gamecarts into demos if we didn't already download the content or if our data was lost.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The Wii U is alive!! Dance with me!! ( From one gamer stuck on the Wii U to another. )
Ahem... This is cool, I just haven't been able to bring myself to buy ANY VC games since the Switch was announced. I need to know what will happen to my digital purchases a year from now. Will I be able to transfer them or not? That's all I want to know... lol
Huh... I mean. Buying an SD card is no big deal, at least for most people, assuming you don't need an excessively large card for this.... but what if these downloads aren't available on the Switch 10 years from now?
@Angelic_Lapras_King Surprisingly I actually reached that limit. But only because I was literally trying to and I had downloaded every demo that existed at the time. When I finally hit the limit I was trying to download a Gameboy game or something and it told me I had no more space, even though it would have easily fit on the card.
I kept the console maxed out up until I upgraded to a 3DS XL. At that point I decided not to transfer over any demos because that would have taken years...
I'm pretty sure I have a 64 gig card in there that I got for $10 on Black Friday. 64 gigs is basically infinite storage on the 3DS...
$39.99!? What!? Since when has a 3D retail Sonic game been less than $60? I've been expecting the worst with this game, but at $40 I can't be too disappointed...
I found a spot in the game that randomly generates a treasure chest in midair. The chest is at the peak of a mountain and when it falls it tumbles down the side. I was searching for a Korok and the chest nearly knocked me off the cliff. I'll try to post screens later if I get the chance.
I'll have to pick this up eventually. I'm not a fan of tactics or the Rabbids, but this game looks fun despite being the opposite of what I'd normally find fun.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE To be fair, it's just an eshop port. In a perfect world I think every eshop game from the Wii and Wii U should have been transferrable to the Wii U and Switch.
As for myself, I'm not rushing out to get a Switch until Super Mario Odyssey drops in October.
I actually like We Bare Bears... I really didn't think I would but after watching a few episodes on Hulu my wife and I ended up watching the full first season with our kids.
@thesilverbrick Ah. I figured it wouldn't be possible. I've never played Smash on 3DS so I wasn't sure. It's strange that they have D-Pad controls for Wii-mote only play, but they don't allow you that same option on any other controller.
The rewards are terrible but I just thought of something...
If you have the Smash controller app and use your 3DS as your controller, does it give you the option to map movement to the D-Pad? The only reason I ask is because playing as Ryu would be a lot easier. You can accomplish this with the Wii-Remote but you lose out on too many buttons for it to work very well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I agree. I don't even own a Switch yet, but due to having NO information on how Switch VC transfers/purchases will work, I've completely stopped buying VC games since even before the Switch's release. I need to know how and if my purchases will transfer over before I spend any more money.
I loved Mission Mode. Mario Kart DS in General was pretty amazing. Snaking around the tracks overlapping opponents was hilarious, creating custom Kart emblems was fun, and the game just had a lot of great tracks.
I would love to see Mission Mode return. It definitely was a disappointment that it never came back for Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7.
Btw, for the concept art, sound test and Fusion Difficulty unlocks, does anyone know if those are only unlocked after beating the game IF you scanned the amiibo? Or is the amiibo just a quick way to unlcok these features without beating the game?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I really doubt there would be a console replacement for the Wii U that ISN'T the Switch... but it would be interesting to see. I mean... what would be the focus of that machine? Raw power? Dual Screens again? 3D? All of the above? I just don't see how another Nintendo home console could live alongside the Switch without one being harmful to the other.
I guess after a few years though they totally could discount the Switch and stop selling it with the dock in-box... Making it a cheaper portable console, essentially... hm.
@subpopz WOW that is a huge difference!! I thought I remembered the SP looking way better! I guess it wasnt all nostalgia after all!
@roadrunner343 It would be awesome if I could send the GBC to you for refurbishing. The only problem might be that I live in the states. Not sure whether you do or not, but I'll message you soon with some details about the GBC and some of the issues it has. Thanks for the offer!
@subpopz @roadrunner343 I probably have the 001, because there's only one backlight setting and while nice, it's just not enough. The SP I got has that god-awful tribal tattoo design, lol
Miiverse was a ton of fun in Mario Maker. I felt like it was kind of out of place in most other games though. ( Never played Splatoon, but it looked like it worked well there too. )
@sdelfin Yep! The best part is that I got Pokemon Yellow, Silver, and Crystal Versions. Also got Tetris, Kirby's Pinball Land, Mario & Luigi, Final Fantasy IV Advance, and even some PS1 and 2 games thrown in for that $70.
I'm thinking about getting the GBC and GBA refurbished if anyone knows a good place to do that. I don't mind spending a little cash to do so at some point.
@ballistic90 I just got a GBASP ( and Gameboy Color ) at a yardsale last weekend along with about 8 games for $70 altogether. Unfortunately nostalgia must be a lot more powerful than I thought... because as I popped in Tetris, Pokemon, Mario & Luigi and others to test the systems out, I realized how terrible the screen quality on those devices actually were. They're almost too small for me to read and the lack of brightness even on the SP compared to the 3DS is just sad...
I'm still happy with my purchase, mainly because I got some good Gameboy games, but I think I'm going to be sticking with VC on the 3DS for everything available there until I can manage to get a Super Gameboy or a Gameboy Player.
@GravyThief Good choice. If I had to choose one game for a new player who was interested more in where the series began, Fire Red would be the way to go. If you like that game, I'd say jump into the Gold/Silver remake next. Gold/Silver are regarded as the best in the series by most.
@GravyThief I would say the remakes. Or X/Y. The remakes would be Fire Red/Leaf Green, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
Gold/Silver are sequels to Red/Blue and OR/AS even act as a sequel to X/Y. I'd say those are the best the series has to offer. Diamond and Pearl are also great too though... I realize I might not have helped a whole lot because I just gave you 5 games instead of one... lol.
Adventure Time is tame compared to kids programming from the 90's... Not sure why everyone's comparing it to South Park and Family Guy. There's no comparison there. Adventure Time is a lot closer to stuff like Rocko's Modern Life.
The cool thing about Adventure Time is that throughout the episodes you get some pretty decent charactet development, as the characters do age and learn from past episodes to an extent.
I haven't seen a single Nintendo Switch since launch. I have seen stores put random items in the Switch cases multiple times though... Like bags of chips and stuff...
@Filth_Element Oh yeah, of course just having ports won't do at all, but that's not what they're doing at all. If it were nothing but ports Wii U owners would have no reason to buy the system, but like I said these ports are not for us in any way shape or form. For Wii U owners like us right now the only reason to own a Switch would be... ARMS? But look at what's coming, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, a new Yoshi, Kirby, Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon, Xenoblade 2... I'd much rather they get all the ports out of the way this year to rake people in. We all know the original content is coming next year for the most part. I'm personally waiting to buy a Switch for when Mario Odyssey comes out.
I don't believe at all that we should get ports of EVERYTHING, but it makes a lot of sense right now to port over the best of the best Wii U games to strengthen the Switch's early life lineup. Most new consoles have almost nothing to play. The Switch has Zelda and Mario Kart. That's pretty good if you ask me even if one is a dual launch and the other is an upgraded port.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You can dislike ports to the end of time but in this situation it would be moronic for them not to port over the Boyonetta 1&2 collection to Switch or ANY other more successful console than the Wii U. Trust me, I love the Wii U just as much as you do, but it makes no sense to not port a game over to have it reach a larger audience or even just a different group of buyers. These ports are not for us.
