Nintendo has released a new promotional video for the Switch in time for Gamescom 2017, and it does a pretty convincing job of selling the machine to those still undecided on its merits.
The promo - which contains elements that have been seen previously in TV commercials - showcases some of the console's most notable games, such as ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
There's also room for some upcoming titles as well, such as Skyrim, NBA 2K18, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Super Mario Odyssey.
What this clip really puts into perspective is how great a first year Switch is having in terms of software, but perhaps you've got a different opinion? Let us know with a comment.

So many games. You can't really say the Switch has no games anymore.
It feels like every month, a new must have game comes out.
Nintendo will make a killing come holiday season.
Nailed it.
They need to start advertising some of the none first party games during their TV adverts. Do they advertise in cinemas?
What hits me with that trailer is how its seems like they just keeps the switches loose in their bags. Damage? Fingerprints? Seems unsafe.
Favorite moment in the trailer was Splatoon, laughed loud when that guy got hit by the green ink.
I think Switch has a good first year. Lot of great games. Looks moste forward to the Senran Kagura games, Night of Azure and Fire Emblem Warriors.
Nintendo will take over the world.... again !
Soon, ps4 will be going down....
agreed Nintendo really has done a great job of keeping the releases coming, Zelda and 2 Mario Games in the same year cannot be seen as the console having No games. the Eshop was a slow start but now there are multiple releases each week so now is a really great time to get one! ( providing they aren't sold out!!!)
@Anti-Matter 1. Thats not going to happen. 2. Why does one company has to be the best? 3. Stop it with the nagging on playstation(This comes from a Nintendo+Xbox guy)
Pretty much explains why you should own a Switch in 3 minutes. The marketing for Switch has been head and shoulders above that of the Wii U or the 3DS.
Of course they actually need to get that advert (and the shorter versions) out there regularly for it to make an impact but I really do feel that we've only just seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of demand and desirability for the Switch.
Like @cowntsikin said - they'll make a killing this Christmas. Switch has the potential at this point to be this years Buzz Lightyear & iPad combined... times a million!
but that music...it's so bad, so low on energy...come on Nintendo! (this is important!)
Please Nintendo, let go of 1/2 Switch, it's not a good game.
Too many first party games not enough playtime. Add in eshop games
@FragRed some games in this advert weren’t first party (Skyrim, NBA 2K18 and Rocket League)
They put in a good few games. Unfortunately there's not a lot on the 3rd party front. Some of the games like Rocket League and Skyrim are old ports.
A great game every month in the first year of release
DId they add a D-pad to the joy con? No, then might be worth waiting.
Wish they gave the grey joycon model some love; yes its less visible but more minimalistically stylish.
Also does anyone carry their Joycon grip with them. Wish they'd release a grip without the handle, just the central segment so you end up with an old school "flat pad".
The Ad does a really great job of showing just how great the first year of games are. Pretty much every game in this ad is a heavy hitter and a must own.
I also really like them playing up the social aspect of the system. Its one of the main reasons I only game on Nintendo, I love how their consoles really bring people of all ages together to just have some fun.
@cowntsikin if they can keep up with demand, and that's not looking likely unless they've somehow upped production recently.
Till now i'm still not convinced about the Switch. I guess not my cup of tea. I still haven't seen really any game that makes go run and buy the system.. none of the game. This my opinion if you like it or not
@MariOnline Nice, I have yet to get a physical game for my Switch, not that I'm not interested in any of these games, but Zelda & Mario Kart I have/had for the Wii U (upgrading to 8 Deluxe eventually), Arms & Splatoon are intriguing but aren't calling to me right now, so Mario + Rabbids will be my first physical game for Switch and I'm psyched!!!
@NickOfTime90
I still have some saltiness about Sony Playstation 4, despite I owned 5 PS4 games right now.
This is between Love and Hate.
Love.... for ps1 & ps2 only.
Hate.... starting from ps3 & ps4.
I like a few games on ps4 but don't like to play on ps4 machine due to notorious reputation.
Eventually, I will buy ps4 machine on April 2018 (I scheduled the purchase day). But not because I like the machine. I have no choice but have to buy ps4 in order to play Earthlock, Overcooked, FF X/X-2 ,FF XII, KH 1.5 + 2.5, Portal Knights, World of Final Fantasy & The Sims 4 in Physical release.
But, eventually Overcooked and Portal Knights will make debut on Switch, so I can betray ps4 by those games. I would rather play those 8 games on Switch than on ps4. If those 8 games already on Switch, I don't have to buy ps4. A little bit punishment for Sony from me because Sony has Broken my heart and my trust.
Anyway, I still use some Sony products. I can't deny Sony for some of my Best games that was born from Sony machine. I can't deny Dance Dance Revolution, was started from ps1, Para Para Paradise started from ps2 & K-1 series from ps2. Whenever I play them, it always represent Sony product.
Well... kinda like a Frenemies in this case.
@Alucard83 Twintelle's gotta cup for ya
what is your cup of tea/type of game? what are you playing now?
@FX102A I have the grey model and yes less is more I think, I have a carry case and purchased a cheap joy-con grip, removed the handle part,so the middle part sits in the carry case too. I recommend it as its made Splatoon 2 a lot easier to play in table top mode and the MHXX demo too. It actually feels a bit more comfortable to hold without the handle part attached
Cheap joy-con grip on Ebay for about £3
Please tell me I'm not the only one irritated by how the girl holds the controller playing Zelda!
She also managed to use the bow without touching any trigger... C'mon Nintendo, you're THE gaming company, so you shouldn't accept that kind of mistakes.
FIFA 18 is shown on the ad. Good, now also make a standalone commercial.
@StuTwo
Yes the marketing has been miles better for Switch.
It's an easier sell. Here's the hook-play on the go or on the TV-now here's loads of games. Boom.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's a Nintendo console. There hasn't been a lot on the third-party front since the 90s.
A good selection of games, could have done with flashing up all the logos at the end though quickly to reinforce them though. Also, it wasn't nearly as engaging as the superbowl advert with Imagine Dragons. Ahaha.
Great spot, but I'd like to see them broaden a bit beyond hip 20-somethings. I don't want the old kids nickelodeon ads back, and I'm glad they're on adults, but adults does mean more than hip urbanite 20-somethings in trendy locales and entertaining beneath urban infrastructure.
Also, can they please for the love of Hylia, start showing Milk using only two female players? Every time they pair a male and female or two male players I come away thinking the game is even bigger innuendo than I previously did. The only person I've ever seen milk a cow like that was a politician....so enough said.
@RoomB31 I don't blame you. I ordered the switch from Amazon uk as it said not in stock but came within 2 days. I traded in most of my Wii u and 3ds games.
Splatoon 2 is good online so as splatoon 1.
Sold my mario kart 8 for the delux. I miss fire hopping.
Zelda I bought pre owned from eBay. So far the best game on switch.
Arms I really regret buying but does the job with the kids.
I bought the switch for Mario oddysse but ended up buying these
3:01 — that was everyone in NA screaming at dead preorder pages for a SNES Classic.
I love the games.
Arms is a really incredible game. It took a bit to get the hang of things, but once I did it just opened up and became so addictive.
Splatoon 2 improves on the first game in practically every way. I'd say Splatoon 2 is right up there with Zelda (and soon Odyssey I'm sure) as one of the best games on the market money can buy.
This weekend it's Monster Hunter XX time, followed by Mario x Rabbids Kingdom Battle. The great games keep coming...
Its not even the holidays yet! The Switch is a monster!
Nintendo's Switch marketing continues to steamroll their 3DS and Wii U "marketing."
@2:05 fake, wanna-be-Karen.
Commercial is meh; song is 7.2/10, too incomprehensible--"Switch could be"?
@Spoony_Tech I beg to differ. I think they should drop the price some, but 1-2 Switch really makes for a fun party game. I play it with almost everyone who I get to try the Switch. The marble game is especially fun for showing off the HD rumble.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah, but what'd I tell ya? More hip, young millenials.
@Anti-Matter
Overcooked is already out!
Switch? Nah, not yet... plays Wii U
Happy that they're showcasing third party titles. Looks good.
@Alucard83 You probably don't play games as much as you used to. Cause if you were able to give all these games a pass...then you're probably just losing interest in games. Think about it.
It's a nice showcase, but by focusing on the "cool people lifestyle" scenarios they are missing some of the scenarios which makes it great for me and potentially others with not a lot of time to play. For instance, you can play a game while putting kids to sleep, or when visiting in-laws you don't care about. But what really seals the deal for me is that you can suspend and resume any game at practically any point. The 3ds and ds had this too, but to my knowledge this is the first time you can do that with console sized games. One of the reasons I haven't beaten the master sword trials on BotW is because I got it on Wii U, and I know it'll take a while to even reach a checkpoint, so I don't even bother until I know I have enough continuous time to play it through. If I had it on Switch, I could just play it little by little. This capability by itself sold the console for me.
Splatoon 2 is the game I would like to try. But the price of the switch + game is prohibitive. So I'll only buy it in 2018 or 2019. Right now I have a lot of wii u games to play. Some are still unopened. And I like finding deals on wii u games. Majority of games I picked up for around 20eur (except botw of course).
@tobibra And the screen was on when he pulled it from his bag.
I do wish they would advertise more and hope they get more 3rd party support. Its slowly coming. I still feel like I'm on an island. Friends and family all play Xbox or PS4. I'm the only Nintendo guy.
Were they even looking at the screen when playing ARMS?
Perfectly acceptable trailer. To paraphrase an old ad from the U.K. :
"The Switch, does exactly what it says on the tin."
@GrailUK Totally.
Where's Karen?
I'll be getting my Switch sometime before Super Mario Odyssey releases. That's the only game I absolutely have to have on the system this year.
Still on the fence about buying one, I might pick one up this holiday season. If I can find one in my area.
At least most of the commercial isn't soccer moms and grandpas playing around the couch together.
Really though, why would you play your Switch on your balcony instead of in your house, or meet up with friends outdoors to play the Switch together while sharing the small screen? If you're going to meet up with friends to play the Switch just meet together at someone's house.
@Kalmaro I really enjoy american football. What game do you suggest?
@thesilverbrick hence why they're in last place and trying to find a niche corner of the market every gen
<3
@gatorboi352
Your grasp of gaming history is dreadful. Here you go....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_generation_of_video_game_consoles
You're welcome.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
They're only old ports to people who want such games enough to buy a machine that plays them. Anybody who chooses not to buy a PS4 or Xbox or pc obviously isn't bothered about the games on them.
@gatorboi352 If football is the only game you like, I would get a ps4 or Xbox.
Assuming that you don't own any consoles and you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars for one game. I'd suggest looking at the Switch games and getting out of your comfort zone.
May find something you like!
Ok trailer but stil...
I would love a killer RPG.... I'm not fan of Xenoblade. Would like a real Final Fantasy XV (not mobile version) or VII remake (it runs at Unreal engine) or Persona V game...
Fifa is nice, but playing the PS3 version leave a lot to be desired.
@gatorboi352
Some amazing revisionist history there...
Ignoring the NES, GB, SNES, GBA, DS, Wii, 3DS, and currently the Switch...yes, Nintendo is definitely "in last place and trying to find a niche corner of the market every gen"
Were the N64, GCN, and Wii U your only Nintendo consoles?
@gatorboi352 Lack of AAA third party support sure didn't hurt them in the Wii era.
@Kalmaro how about FPS titles?
I think you see where I'm going with this...
@thesilverbrick Wii had plenty of 3rd party support. It had Call of Duty and Madden even. Two franchises notably absent from Switch.
@gatorboi352 What exactly are you getting at? I don't want to misquote you.
meh. way too much 1-2 switch in that video.
milking cows will never sell me on this system.
and to switch owners - do ANY of you actually go meet at parks and then play two-player with tiny controllers on a tiny screen?
I like in the first scene the way the guy puts the Switch into the dock slowly as if he is a real Switch owner and doesn't want to scratch the screen.
@FragRed Yes they show ads at the theaters.
A nice little commercial, Super Mario Odyssey is definitely on my to buy list this holiday.
@FragRed yeah, ive seen Mario kart trailer in the cinema
@tobibra Totally agree with the loose in the bag observation. And the fact its already on as well...
I've just bought a Switch on impulse. Was going to wait for later in the year but one was in stock in Toys R Us so I did it. Very very pleased with it. Zelda on the commute home, Mario Kart in the back garden, Arms sat in my armchair.... All good...
@gatorboi352 Why don't you just say right out where you are going? So the Switch does not have an American football or a FPS game yet. So what?
From the looks of it, the console it selling very well. Even the third party games aviable seems to sell good on the system.
Give it a few years, then we can see where third parties stands.
@gatorboi352 I think @tobibra hit the nail on the head. Sure, there is no Madden or Call of Duty on the Switch. The Switch is also just a few months old. Third parties are wary of publishing for a Nintendo console after the Wii U bombed as badly as it did. Many publishers, like Capcom and Ubisoft, for example, are starting to crawl back to Nintendo with light support, and Capcom at least was very impressed with how well Street Fighter sold on the Switch, and now they're working on RE: Revelations. Gaining momentum with third-party games on the switch is going to take time, and frankly, I don't blame the third parties for being cautious, considering how badly they were burned last generation. However, even with minimal third-party support, the Switch is outpacing the GameCube in terms of sales by 116% (a topic I provided a lengthy comment on that you refused to acknowledge, by the way). Note that the GameCube had more third-party support than any Nintendo console in recent memory and also sold poorly. The Switch has been an undisputed financial success thus far, and with more games on the way, it only is poised to do even better. The Wii may have had Madden and CoD, but you know as well as I do that hard-core gamers did not choose the Wii as their console of choice for those games. I've rambled a bit here, but I think what I'm trying to get at is the fact that many Nintendo consoles succeed largely without third-party support. Sure, there are some third-party games on successful Nintendo consoles, but by and large they triumph because of the first party software. It's the way it's been for decades now. Anybody playing a Nintendo device and bemoaning the lack of AAA third-party titles really hasn't been paying attention for the past 20 years.
OK Nintendo needs to make a new commercial and like the guy is playing on the toilet and then he is playing under his desk at a meeting at work, then show a kid ditching class and playing it in the bathroom at school. And then the best one of all: show a guy pulling it out at a funeral that's all sad and everything and everyone turns happy because they start playing with the switch and they all play 2 player and stuff LOL
@Kalmaro the Switch is still not the home to some of the largest, most mainstream gaming franchises and genres in the industry.
@tobibra what I'm getting at is that those are 2 of the 3 biggest reasons I'm still not interested in the Switch. FIFA and NBA 2K are big gets, but Switch needs all the genres and franchises. It's selling too well to not to, what is Nintendo's problem? They need to severely overhaul their 3rd party relationships.
@thesilverbrick solid post, all around.
However, "Note that the GameCube had more third-party support than any Nintendo console in recent memory and also sold poorly." This was simply due to Nintendo going with proprietary mini discs as opposed to the HUGELY successful DVD format PS2 took on. It also didn't help launching a year later than the PS2 and it's DVD capabilities.
@gatorboi352 I think you may be underestimating what is popular when it comes to Nintendo. They may be missing those two genres, for now, but the games and console still have mass appeal.
Just as a comparison, here is what Nintendo's Wii U commercials looked like in 2012-2015:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SChWdprUnzw
@gatorboi352 And therein lies the problem. Nintendo can't succeed by simply making a me-too console. When they made a console on par with the competition and received the same ports, they still floundered. Like it or not, Nintendo performs best when they try something different, like they did with the Wii and DS. The Switch is arguably something unique and it's doing quite well. If it keeps selling like it has been the third parties will return to cash in on that growing user base. It's going to take time, unfortunately.
@thesilverbrick ah, but "on par" the Gamecube and N64 were not. They were back to back generations where Nintendo simply refused to adopt the crazy successful and utilized compact disc and DVD formats. How cool was it to play your CD music on your PS1?? Or watch movies on your PS2! Game changing features on top of killer 3rd party support. It really was as simple as that. Wii success was a fluke, lightning in a bottle type of opportunity. This was evident by the insanely botched Wii U. DS was simply building on/riding the coat tails of Gameboy line. Nintendo also just owns portable gaming thanks to kids.
@gatorboi352 Just because you like those games does not mean Nintendo needs them. The Switch is popular. Selling well. Third party games sell well. Despite not having two games you personaly like.
The Switch is not flourishing with my personal favorite titles yet either, but we will probally get those later too.
The Switch sells. Whatever Nintendo is doing right now, its working for them. And it seems to work for third parties who release games on the console too. Not that it would hurt tohave more popular games on the system.
@cowntsikin Yup, they just need to be able to ship enough hardware to meet the demand and there will be no stopping the Switch.
@JaxonH add me? I also have XX.
@Kamiyouni
Sure! What's your Friend Code? You can find us in the MHXX forum btw, that's where we organise hunts
@JaxonH oh, I'll stop by then sometime. It's in my profile.
@Kamiyouni
I tried adding you but you're switch friend code is wrong. You listed your 3DS friend code twice
@JaxonH whoops try it now...
@Kamiyouni
